The forks came out all around and everyone agreed that this app was first rate. My partner had the special salmon entree with dijon sauce, highly highly recommended if this item is on the menu. I had the ginger soy tuna dish with noodles, quite good. But for me, the standout dish was the pot roast ordered by my friend, wow!! I'm not normally a fan of pot roast but the meat was super tender and the sauce completely delectable. I was only going to take a taste, but wound up taking three, and had to restrain myself from taking more, it was so good. My partner can't finish a meal without dessert and coffee, and even though we knew they were probably trying to close up, they brewed some coffee for him and comp'ed us a creme brulee (perfectly done) for the table. Just straight up great service. We've eaten at the Common Man in Claremont and I think somewhere else, and they're always great. I think the Nantucket pie is a standard on the menus and it is a winner--scallops, shrimp, haddock AND lobster baked in a creamy lobster sauce topped with Ritz cracker crumbs in classic New England fashiom. It looks like they have several restaurants and a couple of diners up and down I-93 and Route 3 in New Hampshire under different names, would like to try them all. But it would be hard to resist coming back to this location for another great meal. My tastes tend to run to funky ethnic joints but I would come back to this place any time. The ahi tuna tartare doesn't look like the picture currently on their website, and it arrived looking like the typical tuna/avocado/mango stack that we've all had before. But, whoa! The pineapple salsa took it to a new acidic level, and there was something else going on that I can't name, but it was perfect. The bone marrow toast. I can't even... Initially, tasting each component, I was underwhelmed, but once you stack the cheese toast, the marrow, the fruit compote, and the arugula? Total heaven. What a genius dish. And who doesn't love a smashburger? They do theirs flawlessly. Juicy, not overcooked, perfectly seasoned. Usually after a full meal I don't order dessert, but I just had to sample their nightly specials because they'd proved themselves, lol. I also never order a crème brûlée as I find my husband's to be the best I've had, but... I got their vanilla version, and my husband got their peanut butter and chocolate pops. Both were damn divine! These guys were seasoned well beyond just relying on the sauce alone. The bleu cheese was also a great compliment to the spicy goodness. 9 out of 10, would highly recommend! Fish n' chips: Okay. A little background here; I was really torn between ordering this versus the broiled haddock. In hindsight, I kinda wish I had gone with the latter because fish n' chips can be hit or miss, depending on how they're done. This one was okay, though I can't tell if the piece of fish they used was just hella small or if it was the batter that was throwing me off. In either case, it seemed thinner than most fried cod or haddock I've had up there. This tends to result in the end pieces of fish being slightly overcooked whilst the center was mostly fine. I dunno. It only makes me wonder how their broiled haddock would have turned out. Grading on a curve, I'll give this one a 7 out of 10. All said, I would definitely return here and try several other items on the menu, actually. I already mentioned one, but another that I'm curious about is their steak & cheese. Sadly, it'll have to wait till I happen to be back in the neighborhood again, given the 40ish minute drive from our place. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of downtown Milford, with plenty of free off-street parking available. The only downside was the motorcycle traffic from a nearby biker bar. Every time a group rode by, the engines were quite loud and interrupted the otherwise relaxing ambiance.
