After doing some research on Yelp, I decided to use Martha's to alter some skinny jeans that were several inches too long and too wide in the calf area. She got me right in, fitted me and told me to come back in a week. She had everything ready on time, her work was very good and the price was very reasonable AND she was fun to speak with. Martha was lovely, but the work on the dress looked unfinished. The way the bottom of my beaded gown was tailored up was not done properly, the beading on the top layer should have been removed on the bottom and the fabric simply trimmed as it looked prior to alterations. I caught my heels in the hem she sewed up while dancing all night long and was crushing beads as well. She also took the dress in for me. In my opinion when you have a dress taken in the inside of the dress when finished should look like no work has been done on it. It was sloppy for sure, and while on the outside it fit fine, the inside was all shredded fabric from the original seams that were left unfinished. Again, Martha was a lovely person, but her work on this dress made me 100% clear that there was no way in hell I was bringing my wedding gown to her. read more

Wow, I don't know where to begin. I had a Ball to attend at the Hilton Anatole and needed one of my gowns altered nearly two sizes down. Ms. Martha made an appointment for me the same day I called and within a week had the most unbelievable size alteration I could have imagined. I had a horrible experience with her. Martha was very sweet when I went to drop off my dress to get altered. But she does not tell you the price it will be and says it depends on the time she spends. When I went to pick up my dress she made up the price on the spot which was absurd. I told her that was more than I paid for the dress. Then she proceeded and asked me how much money I make for a living!! How unprofessional!! She does not give receipts therefore I know she is not claiming taxes on any of her jobs. I'm extremely happy with the service and the results. Service is extremely friendly. The lady calls everyone "love" or "dahling." She only takes cash or check, and I had neither but she told me to take my hemmed bridesmaid dress and just send her a check. It was just a couple of weeks before my wedding and the boutique I ordered my dress from wasn't sure if they could get it done in time. The ladies at Martha's went Above and Beyond for me. They put their hearts and souls into getting my dress perfect and done in time. It was a very complicated alteration with several layers of tool and lace. They pulled late nights for me and did an absolutely beautiful job. These women truly take pride in their work and cared about my predicament. Hands down the best alterations EVER! I've lived in St Louis, Atlanta, NYC and now Dallas and nobody does it better. Martha takes the time to understand what you want and is meticulous about getting the job done correctly. There are times I'm satisfied with the fit and look, but she notices something else that needs fixing. She doesn't give up until it's perfect. In the midst of my wedding planning, I moved from Austin to Dallas. I chose my mother's wedding dress to wear to my wedding, a beautiful, handmade stunner that carried 30+ years of good luck. Yelp is actually what led me to the amazing Eta at Martha's Alterations! I took in my wedding dress, a size 11 that needed to be altered down to a size 0. Most places would have turned me down, but Eta worked tirelessly to make it perfect! I had to go in for multiple appointments because she wanted to be certain it was sized down perfectly. She actually felt bad for making me come in so often, but she was wonderful and even stayed late until I could get there. She even cried when she saw me in the final fitting. Washing machine ruined three dresses by tearing/ripping the shoulder straps and I honestly thought they were ruined for good. I took them to Martha to see if there was any chance at salvaging these dresses and she showed/explained what she would do to fix them and to come back in three days. For someone who doesn't know anything about sewing and seeing how bad the dresses were I still had doubts those dresses would ever look the way they did before. Well, three days later I come back and they look as good as new! I was in utter disbelief that she was able to fix them based on how bad they got torn in the washer. It literally made my day. I thanked her several times over and from here on out she is my go-to for any sewing/alterations. Her quality of work and expertise is A++ and I HIGHLY recommend. The owner is the sweetest lady and I'm pleased with my jeans, but was discouraged that when given an opportune chance, she took advantage of me. Beforehand, we had discussed the price it would be for her to tailor some jean shorts for me, she told me $35. After I picked up my shorts the next week, I asked how much it would be (out of courtesy- didn't want to just hand her the money in case she had forgotten telling me and I'd come off as if I was assuming), and she said "Did we not discuss this?" - feeling like I'd sound stupid if I said yes, because then she would think "Well why are you asking then?" (yes I over-analyze) I said no, and she said it would be $50. I was caught very off guard and just said "Wow, I didn't think it was that much", she answered, "worth every penny". I was disappointed that when she thought I didn't remember what she had told me in the beginning, she changed the price to $15 higher. She's a sweet lady and I'm not a confrontational person so I didn't know how to say that I did recall her initially telling me $35, so I just gave her the money and left with the mindset that I would not be returning. read more
