I'm writing this review based on my friend's recent experience because I was honestly shocked by what happened. She has gone to this salon (Martell Nails & Spa) and this nail technician many times before and has always been happy with her results, which makes this experience even more disappointing. After getting an acrylic set in April, she immediately noticed some issues. One of the nails was extremely curved and looked noticeably off when her hand was flat, and the paint on the tips was uneven and bumpy. About two weeks later, her index fingernail started lifting on one side, causing the acrylic to sit crooked. As the nails grew out, she attempted to remove them but found that they were incredibly difficult to take off. Even after more than a month, several nails were still stuck on very tightly. During the removal process, one of the nails ripped off and caused her finger to bleed. She was eventually able to remove most of the set, but the thumb nails were so strongly attached that she couldn't get them off even after having the set on for well over a month. It's unfortunate because she has been a repeat customer and has had positive experiences in the past. However, this set had obvious quality issues from the beginning and ended up causing pain and damage during removal. read more

I'll admit it, I wouldn't have thought twice about trying the salon based on the overall ratings but I received a gift certificate so I looked more into it. After digging into the reviews more carefully I realized the more recent ones were from satisfied customers so I made an appointment. I am SHOCKED at how amazing my experience was. The salon is CLEAN, updated, organized and decorated nicely. It was very busy yet not overly loud or reeking of chemicals. I saw Jessica for a new set of short French tips and she was SPECTACULAR. I've never had someone so thorough, efficient, attentive to detail, and also fast (without feeling rushed). I've had so many bad nail experiences that I'm unfortunately really critical and I don't have one single bad thing to say about this experience! I wasn't sure about getting a short French on my natural nails or on tips but Jessica helped me decide that a new set of tips with builder gel would be better to match my inspiration photo and would be extremely durable for a long trip. LOVE the advice and she clearly was thinking about my needs which made me feel taken care of. I wanted a short French style and she perfectly matched the photo I provided. There was no nickel and diming, no pushy upsells, no gossiping or side eye glances to other workers. None of that! Jessica was easy to talk to without being overly chatty. The whole experience was incredibly relaxing. Being my first time here I was observing their workflow and on top of getting my full set done in less than 45 minutes she also politely acknowledged other customers as they came in and even answered a call. She's a salon rockstar for sure. She handled all the business, was a delight to sit with, and my nails came out perfect. Her French tips were also effortlessly hand painted with no guides or tapes and she perfectly matched my nail bed color to my skin tone with no questions asked. She's excellent. I've never had such a well executed finished product. Out the door my set was $70 which was cheaper than the hot mess of a job I got at another salon in town (who tried to charge me extra for prepping my cuticles). I'm still shocked. She did a beautiful neutral color on me, and worked with me to find something that will work with my job and daily duties and this is how they look a week and a half later after I've been working with my hands all week--still gorgeous! The vibe in the store is so relaxing and I love the music they play. My sister and I came in to get mani-pedis before my wedding and they worked their wonders again! Now, after about six months, I can say: this is my place. But it's really about the nail techs, isn't it? There are two here who I would follow anywhere. Amazing service! The staff are welcoming and very friendly when I first walked in without an appointment. I was able to get my nails done within 5-8mins even though I was a walk in. Went to get a pedicure Saturday. It was the worse pedicure experience I've had in a while. I was barely in there thirty whole minutes. My feet barely got wet. Let alone soaked. They didn't even take off my old polish. You can see dark spots through the new polish they put on. Didn't even file the nails on my left foot. The cuticle pusher maybe touched my skin for .5 seconds. So the extra charge gel polish I got peeled off two day later. Spent $70!!!!! For less than 30 minutes of service just to have it not look good or last is outrageous. I'll never go back. The girl was nice who did my toes. I felt awful not tipping. But after that outrageous charge for less than mediocre outcome I couldn't bring myself to tip. read more

I have been going to this nail salon for over 20 years. It proudly announced it was under new management last year. Management? The person obviously in charge claims not to be, when questioned. But he has fired all the best people, all who have regular customers, and now the last one has quit, transferred to another salon. The rudeness of the man in charge is unbelievable- and experienced by all but his own customers, if he even acknowledges them. I am following my person, whom I turned to when he fired my long-time person last year for taking her vacation,which had been scheduled under the old owners early in 2023. So happy my wonderful manicurist has moved on. I was not going to abandon her. But I am done trying to understand why "new management" is running this business into the ground. I read Yelp reviews religiously, so when my friend wanted to come here for our Galentine's Day Pedis before lunch, I...was...worried. The last 10 reviews are all one star!!! When I voiced my concerns, she assured me that she had been here many times and it wasn't that bad. Sometimes, I am just too nice, so I agreed. I did insist, however, that she make an appointment, even though she tried to tell me they didn't take them and they only did walk ins and the week before when I reminded her, she begrudgingly said "Fine!" and called me back 5 minutes later to say she had called and spoke to an employee and made us a reservation for two spa pedicures at 1 o'clock. When we arrived, I needed to change out of my sneakers for the pedi, but she was already in her sandals, so she went in ahead of me and when I walked in, they had the water running on two pedi chairs. She waved me over and was already putting her feet into the water and it was like one of those slow motion "Nooooooooooo!" moments. I wanted to leave the moment I walked in and with her feet already in the water, I knew that wasn't an option. There were boxes everywhere, stacked higher than me, blocking the walkway. At least 2 guys doing work on the building were running a loud drill and another dropped a large box while trying to move it. It was mayhem. Loud, dirty, mayhem. "Did they tell you the shop was under construction when you called to make the appointment?" I asked her, clearly annoyed. She replied that they hadn't and the man at her feet said "two more weeks construction". They were seriously remodeling and declined to tell patrons that their "relaxing, spa massage" would include dust flying, loud banging and intermittent pauses in your conversation because you can't hear each other over the drilling? Unacceptable. As if that wasn't enough of a reason never to come here, there's plenty more. I take full responsibility for my experience after sitting down because I should have known better, but I wasn't going to walk out on my friend or make her feel bad. As stated in the other reviews, the employees aren't friendly and don't do a very good job. I opted for the #2 pedicure which says $37 or $35 cash and the girl kept trying to up-sell me to a #4. Then later was trying to get me to add a manicure as well. I always find that annoying. I usually pay to have the french manicure done, but I had already decided that I wasn't spending any extra money here so I just chose a color I liked from the samples they gave me. No water was offered. Our chairs were not turned on so we were trying to figure them out ourselves. The "massage" is better described as a limp rubbing. The service was apathetic to say the most. Then to add insult to injury, as my friend was trying to tell me a story over the noise, the woman doing my pedicure said she would "do paint now ...with gel" and honestly I barely heard her. Luckily my friend stopped her story and said "What gel? What do you mean?" Both workers stopped and started talking about how you must have the gel and that it looks better and makes the polish last and its good for your toes, etc... and my lovely friend said "Oh, that's great. Does it cost extra?" The employee replied "$15". She already had it in her hands and I said "No. No, thank you. Just the regular polish is fine." Obviously I know what the gel is, but what kind of establishment tries to add on extras without telling you they will increase the cost of the service you are already getting by 50%? It's been 4 days and the polish is already coming off, which is fine because it looked terrible anyway. I have tried, but I just can't find anything nice to say about this place. The amateur murals on the walls are ok to look at? The customer service here is terrible and communication is worse. Yelp shows a dozen other nail places in Jackson, so I implore you to be smarter than me and do then research and then stick to your guns! I love my friend, but I will never trust her to chose a nail spot again! read more

My tech offered me a flower several times even tho I kept saying no Thank you. While paying they INSISTED that I withdraw money from their ATM which charges .50 cents. I have tried this place a couple different times throughout the past 8 years. Every single time I give them another shot they let me down. I am sitting in a chair as we speak typing this because my nail tech was so rude that when I tried engaging with her she just gave me a "hmm" and then ignored me. I don't expect us to be best friends but I have never experienced a cold shoulder and blunt rudeness like I do when I come here. She polished my nails just fine, but I felt like an inconvenience to her when she walked me back for "just a polish change". Holy crap! I was told it was $10 for a polish change, I thought it was a little steep but assumed that it was for Gel at that price. I didn't even have polish on my nails when I walked in so she just had to polish them. Well it's my fault for assuming because it was for regular polish AND she didn't offer the dryer for my toes. They also DO NOT TAKE DEBIT OR CREDIT you have to use their ATM and pay a fee. I wrote her a check instead and she managed to crack a smile when I handed her a $2 tip. I feel like a terrible person if I don't tip but she did not deserve one at all!! So now I am sitting in my car barefoot hoping that my toes dry soon so I can put my shoes on and go about my day. I had a waxing done here a few weeks ago and I will NEVER be back. I have had numerous waxes done from other businesses and I have never had more pain and felt more uncomfortable than from this place. I called ahead of time to see if they had availability for a waxing the girl took my name and number and told me I could come in 30 minutes. She then called me back and told me it would actually be an hour wait so I asked if I could get a mani and pedi while I waited. When I arrived I told the girl I was there for a wax but I wanted mani pedi while I waited. Mani and pedi were ok nothing great or bad. When I was done the girl charged me and I told her I was also getting a waxing and she got very angry. She hollered for one of the other girls to do the waxing and they were talking back and forth with an angry tone. I explained that I had talked to someone on the phone and she said it was ok. Well the person that waxed me was not cordial, she was not very personable and I could tell she was rushed. I'm sure this made me very tense and not relaxed which caused it to be more painful. I know all waxing specialist are different but this was a horrible experience, she had a bad and uncomfortable technique and when it was done it was not a good wax job. I will never go here again! I got a full set on Friday April 8th as well as a pedicure. I am new to the area and decided to try a local place. It went incredibly fast but I didn't think anything of it. I left and went to work where I'm a general manager of a retail chain. Within 4 hours 1 nail had popped off and 2 more were lifted. And the 2 were lumpy and not the same shape or size as their mates. I walked into the nail salon April 9th at around 1pm. I was almost shooed out the door. When I explained the male nail tech Eriz says you come back Monday can't help you too busy. Well I can not come back Monday as I'm no lady of leisure I work a LOT of hours a week monday-saturday and while I sometimes have flexibility, this isn't that time of year. So we landed on the weekend as a vague time for me to come in. He gave me a business card with his name and a peomise to redo my full set, i also noted that there is a 7 day gel polish guarantee so i felt assured. Well a week elapsed and I called in and im told by eriz AGAIN "come in Monday they have no time for me and that it's not HIS fault and I should go to him next time." I explained that idc who did it, they all work at a location with one name and blame shifting is ridiculous, i can handle trash nails but trash customer service is a deal breaker. I have worked 65 hours and gone to a funeral with 6 nails and four bandaid covered fingers. I spent 145$ and they treated a new resident like trash. Do yourself a favor and steer clear from Martell nails and specifically Eriz/Eric and his absolute trash customer service. read more

I really don't like leaving bad reviews but people should know...this place is dirty as F. My friend treated me to a pedi & insisted on going here because she likes how they use the bags to line the basins as she is sensitive to whatever other places use as sanitizer. Anyway they were late opening in the morning...okay. Came inside it was super stuffy & smelled gross. Went to the chair & had to ask them for a rag to wipe it off it was filthy! Rings from drinks, grime, and worse-DEAD SKIN EVERYWHERE. ON EVERYTHING. Had my friend not been there I would've walked right out. The remote for the massager was coated in skin dust. Barf! The ladies went to work on our feet & we had a little back & forth on gel vs reg polish (hadn't been to a salon in a long while) which I think irritated them because they kept talking in their language (which is rude btw) to each other and sometimes you really don't need a translator to pickup the vibe you know? My lady was really rough on my feet & legs, just trying to "get the job done" kind of thing it was painful. The "experience" was uncomfortable on many levels. I will never go here again and now have to watch my feet like a hawk because the salon is filthy and it makes you wonder HOW CLEAN ARE THE TOOLS??? Thumbs down but 2 stars instead of 1 because my lady did okay on fixing one of my problem nails w/minimal pain. read more

Took my daughters to a pedi mani here called for the cost when booking appointment $43.00 mani pedi. We get there the mani pedi was okay (smeared but maybe my fault I was trying to get out so fast) but then when it was time to pay it was a shake down for cash! I pointed out there is a visa icon in their window and then they said yes you can use credit card but it's $48.00 (mind you I was paying for 4) I had emergency cash luckily even enough for the tip but it was very strange and I don't feel comfortable going to a place that has that much cash on the premises and I felt like price was a bait and switch. read more

Unfriendly even though my friend and I tried to make small talk. I kept asking her not to yank on my leg during pedicure because I have a bad knee. Didn't stop her. The other woman technician has never been friendly and I don't think she realizes that people know that she is talking badly about them. So rude. We had appointments and they started me 30 mins after my appointment time and my friend an hour after. About half way through there were 9 people waiting for their appointments and 3 technicians. First time here and the man who helped was nice. I want to be a little more forgiving with the rating because the people were fast and nice, but I have some issues with this place. The other employees were short and sassy with the other customers. Since none of the prices and services are posted, they tell customers a price either during or after beginning the service assuming the sustained knows. Additionally, there's no signs that say "cash only", so you're forced to use their ATM if you didn't know. I tried the powder nails instead of gel this time, and I'm not a fan. However, I'm not sure if I don't like powder because my nails didn't come out well, or if it is naturally bumpy, uneven, and transparent. Another customer got French tips, and they're uneven too. By uneven, I mean that the lines are squiggly and on some nails the edge isn't covered. Her gel polish is bulging in some spots and not smooth and even. Her nails were filed so straight and square she could draw blood and maybe help her son with geometry. They also charged the $45 just for her gel French tips when the menu says otherwise. ::::Anyway:::: Pros- *funny guy that helped me gained them an extra star *Nice place *Plenty of parking *In a popular plaza with other stuff around if you have company that doesn't want any nail or spa services *quick service *large selection of nail polish types/ colors *efficient use of a small space * multitaskers-while my nails dried they helped others and came back Cons- *cash only!
