My sisters and I had a family get together here tonight and it was a fiasco. Nobody in management cared about my family a very long time customer. We were met with rudeness, a total lack of service and a completely effed up bill. Clearly it's time for Ms Marrone's to close the doors to the cafe which at one time was one of the best local spots in Ardmore. Simple neighborhood throwback pizza. If you're looking for gourmet, this isn't the place. This is a quirky local spot that looks like it's been in a time warp since 1974. The kind of place where you can get a nice basic pizza and a cold bottle of rolling rock and be content. Get the double or even triple cheese pizza and enjoy. Wings and mozzarella sticks were pretty good too. Salad for 2 with house dressing tastes like grandma made it. Not coincidentally, the plates it's served on look like her's too. While I love their pizza, I was shocked that the owner posted a sign in the restaurant with Marrone's covid policies for indoor dining. There should absolutely be rules put in place for people who choose to dine in the restaurant. However, one policy was that we as indoor diners must pay a $10 tip or 20% of the bill, whichever is higher. We asked an employee why that was fair, especially if we get one pizza. She explained that the owner wants the employees to get larger tips because they must clean up the area and the owner doesn't want them to get two and three dollar tips. This didn't sit right with us but we obviously stayed and paid the $10 tip. What the sign should read is that they encourage larger tips. I would have given a good tip anyway but to be told you must give at least $10 for even the smallest order is disgusting. BTW, we were the only two people in the entire restaurant. Not impressed. We had so many people say they like the pizza; however, our family didn't like it. The pizza appears to be homemade but is very tasteless and took forever even though there was only one other family in the dinning room. Been coming here for every family occasion, random dinner out, date, etc. since birth - it's the best! The cheese is actually provolone and it is hidden under the sauce unless you request double cheese - then the layer of cheese remains under the sauce, but an extra layer is added to the top of the pizza. IMO, the better bet is to order "double under" - which is pretty self-explanatory. Also, ask for the pizza well-done when you do this so that the crust comes out as crispy as usual. Speaking of crust, it's best to eat this pizza fast (even though it comes out SUPER hot) to take advantage of the super-crispy/crunchy crust...as the pizza sits, it can start to get a little soggy. Not from grease, mind you, because there's none to be found on a Marrone's pizza (unless you order pepperoni...which I don't suggest). I only get pizza, but others tell me that their other dishes, like lasagna, are great as well. Don't forget to order a salad to munch while you wait for your meal - very fresh, great croutons and the delicious house Italian dressing is brought to the table in a Grolsch bottle. This is one of the two best pizzas I have ever had- the other one being in Ocean City, NJ, by the name of Mack and Manco's. Marrone's pizza is like no other with a crisp, light crust - not chewy like you typical NJ/PA/NY pizzas. Also, they come with less cheese than typical pizza- so they offer double and triple cheese, but triple is more like traditional pizza. Go with the single cheese and add your own parmessan cheese and I promise you it is like heaven. The place itself is a bit of a dive and parking can be difficult, but they allow for takeout. read more

My wife and I went to Marrone's and on the way I picked up a Wawa coffee, thinking "what restaurant owner would balk at a customer who has a Wawa coffee with them?" As we walked in the door, I looked for the typical "No outside food or drink" sign, yet there was none. We went inside, saw the owner, and I asked for a table. She immediately said, "your coffee is not allowed in here." I said, "ok, I will stand outside to finish my Wawa coffee." While we should have walked out and went to Havertown Pizza, etc, we decided to stay and eat their typical bland pizza. Yes, they have the most bland pizza in the region, but we thought the extra cheese and pepperoni would help. Not so much. Anyway, back to the coffee issue. The rule is nit-picky and stupid. If I came in with a slice of pizza or a beer, I could understand. However, it's a Wawa coffee! It's not like I'm hurting your regular, $5.00 weekly revenue generated from selling your (most likely) stale, 3-hour old Folgers coffee. Outside food and drink rules make sense, but this one is just plain idiotic, and the owner should have realized it. I've been an occasional Marrone's customer since 1977, but this experience was a complete turn-off. I honestly dragged my wife there due to nostalgic reasons, not for the food itself. We really have no reason to avoid Marrone's friendlier competitors for our future pizza outings. Good riddance Marrone's. You lost another customer. I have no idea how anyone could eat this pizza. Definitely the worst pizza myself, my husband, my daughter, and my grandmother have ever eaten. I felt compelled to finally make an account to write what I think about the Main Line's most overrated eating establishment. Marorone's. I had been to the place 5 years ago, because of rave reviews from friends. I was ready to give it another chance this evening, but this time I was getting pasta. The last time I had pizza and ravioli, this time i had spaghetti. First off, its hard for me to give this a 1(total bust) because service was friendly, and the hostess made me feel welcome. Immediately we were told that there was a 1 dollar charge for eating in. Now how ridiculous is that. I've heard of semi bs charges for taking out. Since you're taking out sauces and they prepare it for you, but eating in is ludacris. Second they give u a tiny cup for soda, that doesn't come with free refills. Third-with my spaghetti dinner, i had to ASK for them to bring out bread. This is an italian restaurant. The Meal: 10.50 for some spaghetti and meatballs, and yay it came with a mini soup/salad. The fagioli soup came out first and was pretty bland. The next was my spaghetti and meatballs. It was also pretty bland/substandard. It came with one meatball that had very little taste. Overall i'd expect more from an italian restaurant. The 1 dollar charge for eating in is bs, and the food was mediocre. Wish i had tried the pizza this time though. read more

Two stars for tasteless pizza and lack of service by our server. I had to ask for more water from someone else and ask when our pizza would be ready after chicken fingers, amazingly, were brought out first and then 10 minutes later fries with cold cheese wiz (hot around the edges though because it was clearly microwaved). A very sweet bartender who was friendly and engaged in conversation earned this bidness anther star. Our server appeared sweaty and stressed with a not full house. Marrone's pizza is something that either you love or you dislike. It is very funny to read the reviews here because those that do not enjoy it, their resposne is typical to skip it. The crust is light and airy and the sauce is a tomato sauce where you get to add the oregano or red pepper. The pepperoni is small and a little spicy. Like another yelper wrote, f you like cheese, order double cheese or triple cheese. Also, I suggest you do not order the large pie but instead order a small pie as it cooks better. As for me, I am a fan. Have been since I was very young. Comments on the wait staff are again hit or miss. To me, the wait staff has always been friendly, polite, and helpful but it is a neighborhood place and if you think they are going to super-serve you and be a bubbly 22 year old then, yes, you will be disappointed because the people who work here for the most part have worked here for quite a long time and in my opinion are very good and comfortable in their job so you are treated more like family. The antipasto is good and their non-pizza dishes are average. You come here for pizza with a solid beer selection in a place that has character which includes the somewhat difficult parking (you might have to walk around the block) but again, it is in a neighborhood and not a large box or in a mall. It is a throwback. Try it and either you will enjoy it and want to come back or you will decide that this throwback eatery deserves to be thrown back. I ordered take out last night and for the first time I actually picked the food up. The pizza is delicious but it is different. If you are looking for NYC style pizza in the area nothing beats Bella Italia, but Marrone's has great food and a great atmosphere. I never thought to go out to eat there but they have a decent bar, and the crowd was people in there 30's to a family of four, to a couple who looked around 50 yrs in age. This pizzeria has an old world feel with a friendly staff to match. I enjoyed the authentic "tomatoey" sauc despite the bland crust. I can appreciate their no nonsense family recipe. Maybe next time I will try their homestyle italian dinners like spaghetti or chicken parm to see if these make a bigger impression. read more

Marrone's pizza has changed in past 15 yrs. Same sauce & cheese but the dough was thinner on the bottom years ago & was great. Don't know why they would change the original receipe.?. Yes, we always order extra cheese & it's perfect. The pizza could use more sauce, but overall we love it. Unlike other pizzas, it is great for heating up the next day & still tastes great. Marrones Pizza is the absolute best around! When it comes to good, old fashioned, hearty pizza.... look no further than Marrones! What I like most about Marrones Pizza is that it is not greasy! You don't need to soak up the oils like you do for most pizza's nowadays - especially chain pizzas. The way they make their pizza is with a solid tomato sauce - not too many crazy spices to ruin the taste of their delish crust! We always order triple cheese because we like the extra cheese... If you like cheese as well, I recommend! Theres something EXTRA SPECIAL about getting Marrones Pizza fresh out of the oven and eating it in the restaurant.... I never eat pizza with a fork and knife, but when we are eating at Marrones, I always cut it up like I am eating at a 5 star restaurant! Take out is also awesome, however they are always so jam-packed with take out orders, make sure you call with at least an hours notice for when you need your pizza! Hands down the worst pizza above the Mason Dixon Line.The staff in this place are VERY friendly down to earth people who make you feel welcome in their well-established neighborhood restaurant (since the 1940s) as you sit down for prompt service while watching the happening sports game and enjoying an ice cold brew from their well-thought selection. A good solid four-star quality experience. But for me, the overriding quality of any establishment is the bottom line quality of the food which gets 0.2 stars, because my personal reason for not using my own kitchen and save $ is to eat food that I can't make at home. This pretty much sums up their "pizza": If you told an intoxicated frat boy at 3 AM to make you a pizza from scratch in his dorm room oven with low quality grocery store ingredients the yield would be remarkably similar to what is Marrone's pizza. The oven temperature is obviously set way too low as can be seen when the crust comes out like foamy blandness, pretty much the complete opposite of artisan brick oven pizza prepared in a brick oven. If you don't order the cheese under the sauce as they recommend, it will come burnt. Their crust reminds me of my first improperly cooked home made pizza which was an epic fail because I didn't know what I was doing. The cheese is actually a low quality mass-produced grocery store provolone, so take it as you will. The sauce they use is definitely a step up from ragu or prego (probably in line with classico), but far below the quality you would expect from a business that does this professionally. If it were not for the well-established neighborhood following and friendly atmosphere, the quality of their food would put them out of business in very short time. During my life, I have lived in New York, Italy and Philadelphia. I can say that this pizza is Americanized, but certainly not in a good way like in Chicago-style or Jersey boardwalk-style pizza. This is by far the worst pizza I have ever had that wasn't previously frozen. If you go here, you can look forward to a friendly atmosphere to chat with the friendly locals and owners, but by all means stay far away from the food. their motto is "just a little different" . By different they must mean focusing solely on the quality neighborhood experience you get there and totally ignoring the quality of the food. Another cool aspect of this place is that you feel like you stepped into a vintage 1970s tap room encased by wooden paneling. I'll be sure to wear my aviators and members only jacket the next time I walk in for JUST a drink to socialize with the friendly folks inside and watch the game. Even though the restaurant was small and not very crowded service was slow at some points, we had to wait a while for our pizza and again for the check. Marrone's is a place where you know your food is made with care and the waitresses care about you. With the most expensive item on the menu being only $14, Marrone's is an affordable place to eat. From large pizzas and pasta dishes being $14 to sandwiches being $7, this is the place to go if you want cheap yet scrumptious food. Marrone's is definitely a homey place. The wood paneled walls covered in little kids drawings and decorative plates make you feel like you are at your grandmother's house.
