I chose Marmo for my 35th birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. We started our evening with the red snapper crudo and the special beef tartare. The beef tartare was exquisite. Mixed with a white truffle aioli and topped with Osetra caviar, this tartare was served atop a slice of grilled bread. It was literally an explosion of flavor in the mouth. Umami and perfect in every way. The red snapper crudo was also delicious. The fish itself with cold smoked and sliced so thinly, you could almost miss it in the citrusy broth. It was punchy and savory and incredible. For our entrees we ordered the rigatoni alla vodka and the 8 oz. filet with a side of broccolini. The steak was the best we have ever had. Melt in your mouth. Perfect crust on the outside, tender, juicy, and flavorful on the inside. The Pasta was good but not nearly as memorable as the rest of the meal. Back when Marmo first opened, I was SUCH a fan. Spent multiple anniversaries and birthdays at this restaurant. But after my visit yesterday evening, I was SO disappointed. 1. They decided for that day only they wouldn't do their daily happy hour. (Huge bummer, but it is what it is). 2. We use to love their beef tartare, but we loved it when they had 4 pieces of delicious bread with the beef on top- it was the perfect ratio. But idk WHO had the idea to change it to a slab shaped like a raw patty on a plate with the most stale tasting crackers need to be FIRED. (Also not enough crackers for how much beef they give). 3. The "glass" of wine pictured. It honestly speaks for itself. How embarrassing to serve a glass this light with a straight face. Like come ON. I looked around the restaurant to see if I was being targeted, but it appeared to be consistent with everyone else who ordered a glass of wine. 4. The serving portion- for my pasta and my boyfriend's duck dish. These dishes are our go to every time we go, so it was OBVIOUS they aggressively downsized their portions- like is the economy THIS bad?? 5. Took a noticeably long amount of time to receive things we ordered and the wait staff were overwhelmed. Our waitress was doing the best she could. I loved Marmo because the food was excellent and I felt like I was getting what I paid for- quality and quantity. I will not be returning. Not sure what has happened, but I'm heart broken. And then the flat Voss sparkling water that when I complained, it was explained Voss sparkling was not like Topo Chico and had delicate bubbles. The first half glass was proper, the refill was flat. Why, because the server twists the bottle back and forth while walking around. And the loud piano music with the horribly off key singer. As for the good, appetizers were amazing. My $75 NY strip ordered medium rare steak was gray through and through with barely pink and was tough and dry. I would have said something but I was hungry and server did not check on us for a long time. The other steak was ordered with upcharged butter that never arrived. Deserts were average at best. And the wait staff constantly reach across everyone thrusting their hand and arms across your face. Had to duck to avoid getting plate to the head. Great food and great location. The unsuspecting start of the show was the asparagus soup. It's so hot and creamy, yet light and refreshing. It was a great start to our meal. My husband had the duck and I had the squid ink campanelle. The duck was just ok, but the campanelle was delicious. It had a generous amount of crab and was quite flavorful. I am not always a fan of Italian food because there is often not enough salt/seasoning, but this place satisfied my picky palette. Service, however, definitely left something to be desired. One of the best restaurants in Houston. Nice environment, live music and good vibe. The food was fresh and tastes great!

The HH tagliatelle with veal bolognese sauce was really saucy and meaty. It was a very creamy tomato sauce with ground veal. The ratio for the noodles appears to be more egg than flour. They have a nice bite to them. It was a decent HH portion for $7 plus tax. The fried and juicy HH Tuscan fried chicken pieces came with fried and tough artichoke pieces. The aioli that came with it didn't have a strong flavor. The HH charcuterie board had a nice mix of creamy cheeses, salami, prosciutto, cornichons, pickled vegetables and mini toasts. The apple butter that came with it was okay. The East coast oyster glistened and was very smooth. The bar has purse hooks but the wider size of the seats and placement of them made them unusable where I sat. Even a small purse would have been partially in my seat mate's way. This place was amazing. All the way from the parking to the meal. We will the going back in the near future. Took our family there for a graduation dinner. The drinks were amazing. I had an old fashioned and it was one of the best drinks I've had. The food was also good. There was too much to list, but everything we had was spot on. Anniversary Dinner - good spot for a dates. Calamari with couscous was perfect. Fried Chicken bites were forgettable, lacked a complementary flavor. Service was fine but not great. Had to remind them to bring our drinks and other items, they offered bread to other tables but not to us, had to request it mid-meal, service was a bit slow yet adequate. Eggplant parmigiana lasagna style (minus oozing cheese) was well made. Crispy on top, tender middle layers. Marinara sauce was salty and definitely required the cream sauce to mellow out the saltiness. Venue did not specifically stand out for anything particular (service, food, value). Ambiance was worthy of the trip, crowded and loud, However the live music was great touch. Manager with glasses was extremely kind and helpful when we did make our requests. I truly do not like to write negative reviews but my first time at this restaurant was not the dining experience I thought it would be. It started off great with easy parking in the garage underground. The Stella Rose was yummy and the octopus was delicious but the gnocchi was not so great. The texture was off, dense and it was very, very dry. I had to ask for more of the pesto sauce and that still did not make it enjoyable. In my opinion, the pesto sauce was not very flavorful. My dining companions all enjoyed their meals so I may give this place another try and choose another dish. read more

Had the pleasure of enjoying Marmo recently for dinner and highly recommend trying this place out! Located at the new Live Nation building in Montrose, valet parking is available. We entered and were immediately seated for our reservation. The dining room was reserved and the small bar area was packed so we had to sit outside which was not the most enjoyable in the Houston heat but we made the best of it. Michael was our server and he was absolutely great! He sad friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and made great suggestions. I requested a Pear martini and he confirmed with the bar that they had a pear liqueur available, which they did! The cocktail was prepared well and was enjoyable. They offer bread service and accompany it with a housemade cheese. To start, I selected the Hamachi. It was flavorful and fresh and I enjoyed the passion fruit ponzu. For my entree, I selected the Squid Ink Campanelle which was highly recommended by Michael and it was phenomenal! We have been wanting to try this place for awhile since we live close by-Finally got a late reservation mid week. Even though we had a reservation there was an awkward long wait at the hostess desk waiting to see what table we would be seated at and the place was not full! Bread service was so-so as I've read from other reviews. Our waiter was good-knowledgeable and came around at appropriate times. The salads are big, delicious and beautifully presented and easily could have been shared. I had the roasted carrot salad and my husband had the endive salad. The calamari appetizer was good, certainly different and had a kick to it. My half portion of mushroom risotto was delicious and plentiful though the presentation was rather a blob. My husband got the half portion of the lobster ravioli and other than the pieces of lobster the ravioli and sauce was mediocre. We shared the flourless chocolate cake which was dry and tasted old. Overall a good experience, but pricey. Will try again and share a salad and another kind of pasta maybe the steak next time. Came here with friends for what has to be Montrose's best happy hour. The food is top notch, they have gluten-free pasta options and the happy hour is lively and well-priced. There is a pianist playing all recognizable songs, but not in an overwhelming way. We were still able to laugh and carry on a great conversation. Our bartender was Valerie and she was great--her service and warmth took from four stars to five. Parking is kind of a pain (paid garage or paid valet) but the crowd was great. read more

We loved our table and the giant menus are great for anyone with impaired vision. Our waiter arrived and we started to plan the meal. The music was really loud and our waiter had a soft voice so communication was an issue throughout the evening. I don't blame him - the waiter shouldn't have to shout at the customers. Turn down the music! But the the music was great! The piano player and his wife are so talented but I came to eat, not for a concert. We got the ribeye to share which was so good and cooked to perfection. The sauce honestly I felt like we didn't even need (we got the bone marrow steak sauce). Then we ordered some pastas and honestly could've all ordered the half portions because the full was a lot of pasta. Especially if you are doing family style and sharing plates. After already sitting for 45 minutes, the server comes back to the table asking if it's our first time in and giving us a rundown of the restaurant. Which I thought was strange as typically that's the first thing said when first sitting down. My drink was ok, not strong enough in my opinion. The bread was unsalted along with the butter. I didn't understand the pairing with the Parmesan? The Caesar salad was very salty and peppery. My date asked for ginger ale, they brought out what tasted like tonic water mixed with ginger. The lobster ravioli had an overpowering taste of lemon and my dates steak had a glaze on top that he was not informed about prior to ordering. Marmo just wasn't my thing. I had the risotto and it was extremely salty and also the crawfish that comes with it was a little fishy. The dinner rolls are the soft white bread type almost like bread off the store shelf. I'm sure they are made in-house but I prefer something a little more substantial and "bready". Also note that the establishment is extremely loud. A tremendous amount of background noise I think due to the acoustics of the room and if you have issues hearing conversation when there is a lot of background noise, then beware. Both were scrumptious and perfect openers to our meal. We each order a different steak, one a NY strip mr, another order filet mr, and I, the Wague special mr. I was torn between the duck and the special. But who goes to a steak house and orders duck? Me the next time. My steak is, unfortunately, overcooked and challenging to chew.
