Gulf Red Snapper
Helene S.

Came here to celebrate my friend's birthday during Houston Restaurant Weeks. After a bit of a hiccup, they gave us the menus for Houston Restaurant Weeks. At first, they were not sure if they were honoring it on a Monday even though I called to confirm and also stated that in my Open Table reservation. We both ordered the same meal. Tuscan Fried Chicken and Gulf Red Snapper. Loved the Tuscan Fried Chicken. Chicken served with artichokes, lemon and a side of the most delicious garlic aioli for dipping. This one is also on the Happy Hour menu. Gulf Red Snapper was good. It was advertised as being served with fava beans, leeks, and dried heirloom cherry tomatoes with a lemon-butter fish brodo. I think that they may not have planned for this menu item on the day that we came because it was more like a Gulf Red Snapper topped with chopped veggies in the lemon-butter fish broth. We asked for bread and cheese and refills on our water, but neither happened. They also offered a birthday treat which also never came. I think that they were thrown off by the confusion about the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu. Lucky to find street parking near Postino. Valet and garage parking are also available. A good meal, but a surprised by the confusion regarding the menu and spotty service during the meal.

Good food and great ambiance. I feel like I struggle to find nice Italian restaurants in the city so this was a pleasant find. Recently went for a late dinner on my birthday and it was a good experience. I really enjoyed the aesthetics both externally and internally. While we were there music began being played on the piano, which I didn't know was something they did beforehand, so that was really nice. Our waiter had me doubtful at a point in time but in the end I really enjoyed their service. We took a while to decide but ordered the Tuscan Fried Chicken antipasto. It was taking forever and when we asked our waiter he said he didn't think we had decided on it and this was after we had ordered our entrees. At that point I figured I wouldn't want it because it would come out with the entrees. But nope! It ended up coming back really quickly and well before our entrees, which allowed us to enjoy it separately. Due to the mix-up and delay he ended up taking it off of our bill which was very generous of him. Upon finding out it was my birthday he also brought out complimentary in champagne. I'm never too proud to inquire about if a place offers a free birthday dessert so even though I don't always do a dessert I asked for the dessert menu. I later asked if they offered a complimentary birthday dessert to which you said yes but since I asked for the menu he wanted to allow me to order if I was going to get something else. But nope give me the free one lol. It was nice seeing a waiter happily taking photos of a group that was sitting nearby. Funny enough we thought to ask for photos after leaving our table and someone else working there happily took photos in multiple locations for us. So my service experience was great. Bread squares with Parmesan cheese are brought to the table. For me personally they were okay but not my favorite. I would have liked if the butter served with them was a little bit more whipped for an smoother spread. I don't remember precisely what cocktails were ordered but they were both pretty good. The Tuscan Fried Chicken with artichoke pieces was pretty good. I wish it had a little bit more umph flavor wise but it was good. I came for Italian food so I had all intentions of ordering a pasta dish for my main entree but after I went by and saw the dry age meat section that they had I knew I was going with a dry-aged steak. I ended up going with the 14 oz New York strip dry-aged 45 days. The steak was good And I went with the Italian Chimichurri sauce for it but wasn't much of a fan of the sauce. My date got the Gulf Red Snapper and requested to not have the head served with it. It was pretty decent and had a strong lemon flavor. I like the flavor profile on it but feel like it could have been a bit more balanced. I came for pasta and pasta I got. I ordered the piccolo Bolognese and it was my second favorite item of the night by far. Really good pasta, really good sauce, I was thoroughly pleased and felt like it was a large portion for the piccolo. The favorite item of the night by far not even close was the Smashed Potatoes. The potatoes themselves were just cooked so amazingly. They had the right amount of crisp outside with softness on the inside. I was not expecting them to wow me as they did. It came with a nice sauce that I believe was cheese based. They were delicious without the sauce but the sauce actually elevated them even more. 10 out of 10. The chocolate cake is the free birthday dessert and while it's not overly delicious and decadent it is a solid chocolate cake with very rich flavor. Marmo is a restaurant that I would readily attend again. Now step aside as I eat 10 more of those smashed potatoes!

Hands down one of my favorite happy hours & overall Italian restaurants in Houston. Their happy hour menu is reasonably priced and is a great way to try a small portions of their different entrees. Everything is pretty much under $10. The ambiance of this place is amazing whether you are dining at the bar, inside seating area or outdoors. They even offer a closed off area for private dinners/meetings. They also host a live pianist occasionally which adds to the ambiance. Lastly, the customer service is superior. The servers do a great job of frequently checking in and stopping by for a "last call" before happy hour ends.

Attended a birthday dinner for my cousin at Marmo during Houston Restaurant Week and was thoroughly pleased with the entree I selected. When I say the price and portion were one to experience believe me! I chose the redfish entree with the dessert option can't remember what I got but we aren't here for that. The fish was superb!!! My cousins and I were able to enjoy even with some leftover. Couldn't have been more pleased.

I stand by my original review. The food is very middle ground in my opinion. Nothing is particularly bad, but nothing is that amazing either. A solid food experience, but it's more about the atmosphere and service. Great staff and amazing sophisticated fun vibe. I love love love the live piano music! Ps. Parking is mainly valet/paid. Street parking is hard to find at night

In the heart of Montrose area, this beautiful restaurant has an outstanding Italian cuisine. If you come, make sure you make a reservation, they have a Valet that if you come to this restaurant is free. These beautiful western has outdoor seating, bar area, and main dining room, beautifully decorated, elegant, and classy, perfect for those special occasions. We came to celebrate my friend's birthday, and we got wonderful service, our server was attentive and gave us beautiful recommendations for the food. Food 10 out of 10, server service 9 out of 10, Drinks 10 out of 10, host 5 out of 10. Two things I didn't like about this place, they are not allowed you to bring balloons for a birthday celebration, and your party cannot be seated unless half of the party is already here. And they charge you to cut the cake, if you bring your own cake they're gonna charge you about four dollar cake slices I think it's a little too much Other than that, we had a great time

Great service and good food. I absolutely loved the optional seating, especially in this lovely weather.

PARKING: It's cheaper to use valet than to park in the garage. If you use the public parking garage, you are charged the duration of your stay. If you valet, it's complimentary (just tip). Also, if you have a large vehicle, it's harder to find a spot in the public garage because the spaces are tiny. Service is great. Everyone is friendly from start to finish. On the last two occasions during a holiday (i.e., Mother's Day) someone came around with complimentary cookies or bread/cheese. Atmosphere is pleasant. We went during an occasion, such as Mother's Day, and they had live piano music in the back which was nice. Plenty of windows for natural sunlight where we sat. The menu is interesting the first time but unfortunately felt dull the second time around. It'll be great to see more seasonal items new things on the menu. Overall though, the food is good - I recommend trying.

My first visit to Marmo during Houston Restaurant Weeks was exceptional. The restaurant's warm, energetic atmosphere--filled with families and even a bridal party--set the tone for a memorable evening. Our appetizers, the bruschetta and the chicken and beet salad, were beautifully prepared. The Gulf red snapper entrée was outstanding: fresh, delicate, and served in a creamy broth accented with sun‑dried tomatoes. Dessert was equally impressive, with both the carrot cake and tiramisu offering a perfect finish. With excellent service and thoughtfully crafted dishes, Marmo has earned a spot on my list of places to return to.

Great happy hour location any day, they only seat in the covered patio or bar area so it is limited. The service and dining experience was great, informative and friendly server. The food came out fairly fast, we did however have an issue with the lamb chops, they were overly cooked and we requested for medium. The server gladly had our dish replaced, and it was much better. Very tender and juicy! The other happy hour items were as to be expected, just sub par. The highlight was the meat balls and the beet carpaccio, they were delicious and tasty. Definitely a unique dish!

This place used to be really really good, but I find it pretty underwhelming now. Not a huge fan of the dishes I've tried there these days like the gnocchi and the steak. Steak was kind of overstated, and the gnocchi felt kind of sticky with little flavor profile. The service is kind of slow, but the waiters have always been really nice. The ambiance is what really saves this place because it's in a really nice area, and I love how it feels inside. I know people like the happy hour, but I don't know it felt pretty underwhelming to me.

***Beets Capaccio A very Innovative way to eat a salad. Underneath the delicate layer of beets is actually a green salad mixed tossed with chunks of golden beets! The dressing was of a light vinaigrette. The toasted walnuts added a nice crunch and much appreciated rich texture to the salad. *** Tuscan Fried Chicken Kind of a let down, disappointment. The newspaper decorative element was interesting but the chicken itself felt very underwhelming. Too thick of batter. Serving size was not favorable. ***Lamb chop Initially the lamb was well done. I had to send it back for it to be cooked to medium ring. Flavor-wise was excellent. Although I would not order a chop of this size again. This is mainly just for taste testing. ***Polpette Classic two meatballs with a slice of bread. Nothing remarkable at all. ***Veal Bolognese Honestly couldn't tell the difference if this was ground beef had the menu not set otherwise. But there was very little bits of meat mixed with the pasta. ***White Fish Rillettes Very much reminded me of eating canned tuna with toasted lays. The only thing that elevated this dish was the caviar and even then, it wasn't that amazing. Flavor was kind of lackluster, felt like it came from a can. ***Raw Oysters This was arguably my favorite item off the menu for this instance. That was yours tasted very fresh and the cocktail sauce appears to be made in house and has a nice citrus undertone that pairs really well with the raw oysters. Overall I probably won't return unless they're menu changes. I think the vibe was elevated in the plating was also elevated. But the food just did not seem to bring home the same sentiment. Service and staff was really nice. Our server quickly rectified the situation with the lamb chops being overly cooked.

The lobster was the star of the evening! There's something about a good seafood dish, a well made drink, and being able to sit at the bar and enjoy your own company that makes for a lovely night out. I also appreciate restaurants where you can have a full dining experience without necessarily needing a table or a special occasion. Sometimes you just want to pull up a barstool, order something delicious, and enjoy your evening. We enjoyed a glass or two of wine, tossed some darts, and soaked in the relaxed, unpretentious vibe. It is casual in the right way. An adorable black and white cat who clearly runs the place. Getting to know Posty outside was an unexpected and genuinely charming moment that made the stop memorable. Me and a friend came here on a whim. We were in Houston and was headed to one place when we…read morestumbled across this place. We walked and and you had to have reservations however they had 2 spots at the bar upstairs so we sat there. It was a fine dining place and we were a bit casual but still nice where we didn't stick out so terribly..lol SERVICE: We were probably at the bar I would say at least 10 mins before anyone greeted us. And 2 ladies to our right may have been there I would say about 15 mins before us, only b/c they didn't have anything in front of them just yet. Looked like thwy hadn't been there long, however, evwrytime I turned around this guy kept checking on them making sure they were good. He seemed to be some sort of manager. Anyhoo, finally a server came and greeted us. She had a unique name that now I have forgotten, but anyhoo, she was really nice. It was restaurante month there so we took advantage of there pre-made menu that came with a 3 course meal excluding drinks. We were served our drinks and not to long our apps. And the ladies next to us may have been 5 mins in between us ordering. However their food would come out fast. Once our apps were finished I know it had to have been 20 mins or longer before our food came out whereas the ladies next to use finished there apps not to long before us and had their food in the next 10 mins or so. They were actually just about done eating their main course and our food hadn't even came out yet. Then a server brought us over the desserts and I was like we hadn't had our meal yet. At this point I was a bit upset b/c I felt like since we were 2 women of color we were being over looked. There wasn't many ppl of color in this place. Matter-of-fact I think I only saw one other table that had ppl of color sitting at it. Other than that it was just us. So I th3n ask for a manager. He came, same guy that had been fawning over the ladies next to us, amd he gave some lame excuse for th3 delay and mix up with the desserts and offered us a glass of Champagne, I don't even like Champagne, he could have offered either a drink of our choice of maybe a bit off the bill for the delay. I understood it was busy, but they also know it was restaurant week and they wasn't a delay with the ladies next to us. So I felt like he was a bit dismissive and I did t appreciate it. If it hadn't been for the service or our waiter we might not have stayed. FOOD: Now I will say the food was soo good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the beef salad although it came stacked and looked so great and my friend had the meatballs which she raved about. For dinner we both had the salmon which was superb. So no complaints here. Then the desserts. I had the carrot cake and she had the chocolate genache cake. They were delightful AMBIANCE: It was packed but not uncomfortable it was just a lot of ppl. But it also was quite a big place. They had a downstairs, upstairs and an outside area, so lots of seating, however they were extremely full. The bar was quite roomy and luckily we were able to take the end corner part which was perfect, b/c not a lot of ppl passing by us. Like we had our own little section. All in all is was nice, I would only go back during restaurant month or with a date who was paging b/c outside the prepaid menu which was $55 (not including drinks) most meals went from $40-$200pp and that is no exaggeration. So yea it was quite the fine dining experience.
