What a disappointment it was when I received my order #0796543 to find the "confit" missing from the duck leg confit. Item # 080102. All I got was a dry tasteless baked duck leg. Also item #031501 "duck rillettes du Perigord" , I had to use a steak knife to cut off a piece. I thought you should know in case it was just an unlucky case. read more

So so so so dissapointed with this store! I live in a place where we don't have hardly ANY gourmet food stores, and I wanted to order a fresh truffle for my dad for Christmas. I looked at many different online stores, and thought that Marky's had the best price and products. Since I had some questions, I placed the order over the phone. I spoke to a very distracted individual who couldn't tell me how much the item would cost or when it would arrive at my house. I understood because the price of a truffle is determined by weight, but I was never even given an idea of what it would cost for just ONE truffle. I asked to get it on or around Dec. 19th (Friday). The woman on the phone said it was fine and should be there. She also said she would call me and let me know the status. Of course, none of this happened. I called them and spoke with another person and she told me that the product had never been shipped and seemed to be confused about my entire order. So, she said it could still get to me by Friday and that they would ship it ASAP. Again... this didn't happen. I called on Friday when it didn't arrive and got ANOTHER apology. They hadn't shipped it... again. So, the person I spoke with said it would be shipped on Monday (because it is very perishable and she didn't want to take a chance that it would go bad. I was supposed to receive it Tuesday, Dec. 23rd (before Christmas... and it showed up on the 24th. AND when I received it, the packing slip said it had been shipped Dec. 20th ... meaning it sat in Memphis for 3 days... going bad. So, I called and said I was very dissapointed and they argued with me and told me that the packing slip was wrong and that they couldn't do anything for me. I then asked how much it was going to cost. They charged me for 0.63 lbs. instead of 0.06 lbs. ($400 difference)! My goodness! By this time, I didn't even want the dang thing anymore. They wouldn't refund anything unless they came and picked up the truffle and saw it in person. So, I am waiting for them to pick up the truffle today. We'll see how it goes. Ugh. I am so upset about the whole thing! So much for my dad's Christmas present! I will NEVER order from them again. They might be a good company to work with if you live in Miami, but for those of us who don't live there, I would reccomend NOT ordering from them. While I suspect that Marky's might be a front for the Russian mob, I think the place is amazing. It's on a totally sketchy part of 79th street (just east of Biscayne), and the windows are all frosted up so you can't see inside. Probably a good thing for them, given the neighborhood. They recently expanded the store so it's pretty massive on the inside. Marky's has two personalities. On one hand it's a gourmet market, where you can find ultra-premium items like foie gras (thank god we don't live in California or Illinois), truffles, truffle oils, etc. You can even get frozen wagyu beef (American raised Kobe-style heritage cows) here. Whenever, I want to make a special meal for my wife (see my profile picture of the Valentine's Day Burger I made her), I usually stop by Marky's first. On the other hand, Marky's is also Russian sundries market where you can find Russian deli meats (they get the best kielbasa sausage from Chicago, just the best), Russian beer (surprisingly good), and other Russian dry goods. The deli meats are amazing, and worth trying. They also will have some prepared foods (like beat salad (Yum), potato/vegetable salad, and one time they even had these delicious Russian filled doughnuts) which are all very good. You've got to come here if you like to cook or eat gourmet food. They also have a beautiful selection of cheeses and fine caviar and pre-made blinis! You cannot beat this place in Miami. I believe it's about to be listed in Saveur's list of the Very Best. I've lived here five years and had missed my specialty shops in Boston and NYC. Then I discovered Marky's and also discovered it was just down the road from my home. Double good whammy. Their foie gras is available canned, fresh, frozen, as mousse, you name it. The smoked salmon is out of this world and the French cheeses are perfectly refrigerated. The French butter is wonderful and there are quite a few selections. That's just to start with. When I have a bad day at work and don't feel like cooking dinner, I pop into Marky's (they're open until 7pm weekdays) and pick up a bottle of wine, some smoked salmon and some nice cheese and have a little feast for myself. I can't possibly describe all the things they carry, so my advice is to go and check them out. There is a parking lot, free, in front. Enjoy! It's an experience. Update: 12/23/08 I went into the adjoining grocery store/deli to get some cold cuts to put in the fridge over the holidays. I was looking for some nice ham to put in sandwiches. They have this amazing ham, juicy and full of flavor, called Tambovsky. I don't know where it is from, Poland I think, or Polish style in NJ or NY, but I have to tell you that at $5.99 a pound I am not going to look anywhere else. Beats Boar's Head hands down. read more

We shop there all the time, usually the staff is pleasant and helpful, this woman had a terrible chip on her shoulder. Her hatred of her job was obvious. A rare thing to find is a friendly Russian store (if you're not Russian), and Marky's delivers both variety AND friendly service. This will definitely be my go-to place for spices and pickled goods from now on. I recently bought their "fresh" white truffle (pricy of course). I tried to eat it the day it arrived. It was dry and crumbly, texture all wrong. Lacked flavor and aroma, would crumble when I tried to slice it. Tasteless (and white truffles should be quite pungent/flavorful). Wound up throwing the mess out. Personally would advise caution in purchasing the "fresh" white truffles!! read more

This store is a remarkable find: an independent specialty food store in a city remarkably short of them. The selection of pâté and cheese is especially exciting--though obviously the store also carries all kinds of Soviet-bloc delicacies. The store is a little careworn, to say the least (a little smelly even, but that's the cheese?), and the prices are more than what you'd pay at, say, Publix. But the selection is pretty remarkable, and I don't mind supporting an indie venture like this, even if the service can be . . . well, a little curt. Or Russian. For example, we asked if a block of cheese could be broken into a more practical size. The girl behind the counter just looked confused, then came back a minute later and murmured, "No . . ." Okay, fine. It's a little quirky--and we end up with twice the amount of DELICIOUS cheese to eat. Marky's also has a terrific selection of pierogi-style dumplings, including pork, farmer's cheese, and cherry. If you have any questions about preparing these, ask the VERY friendly Ukrainian woman in the room to the left. Speaking of which, there's a whole room to the right, near the back of the store, that's there for the exploring, too. We missed it our first two times to the store. I ordered the Morcilla Iberica black blood sausage, it is nothing, not even close to the picture, outside or inside. it is thin, small, the outside it's not like morcilla, looks more like paper like salchichon or chorizo; inside it look like it has orange jello. This market has convenient location and large parking for customers who like shopping pleasant and enjoyable. The store offers different kinds of Russian products that you cannot buy in regular markets. The personal of market are kind and helpful, they speak English and Spanish fluently. If you don't know about product you buying the staff will give you all information and content that usually written in Russian. I have been shopping there for a long time and never was disappointed with quality. The store is usually open on holidays when other regular markets are closed. You can get European kielbasa here as well as Russian nesting dolls. They are specialize in caviar. Salmon caviar is an excellent supplement to black caviar and cost much less. They do have Canadian and American black caviars. Prices vary but very expensive as always in USA. Unless you have an uncle on river Don who makes caviar in his shed and sends it to you as a gift (which is highly illegal) you have to pay for it dearly. read more

Will never go back. Not everyone is an expert on caviar. All I know is, I prefer not to purchase caviar that may have mercury. I read that just like fish, some fish eggs can contain mercury. I asked the shop owner how would I be able to tell if the caviar contains mercury or not. I assumed that they sell fish eggs that are both wild caught and farm raised. Like I said, I'm no expert. Anyway, in front of another customer, the owner's response to me was, "That's not a good question. I've been here over 20 years and no one has ever asked me that question." I walked out. I found him to be snobby and rude. I had money to spend in his establishment but after that experience I'll never return and I'll tell everyone I know about my experience as well. read more
