If you're looking for a craft beer spot in Cary that absolutely nails both the food and the vibe,…read moreScratch Kitchen & Taproom deserves a spot at the top of your list. We grabbed a table out on the patio, which honestly ended up being one of the highlights of the night. Every so often, a freight train would roll by in the distance, giving the whole evening this oddly charming small-town-industrial backdrop that somehow worked perfectly with a cold local beer in hand. Speaking of beer -- I started with the SOUTHERN BASIL SAISON from Fullsteam, and wow. Saison lovers, do not skip this one. Crisp, refreshing, slightly peppery, with just enough basil on the finish to make it feel unique without overpowering the style. Then came the appetizers, and this is where things escalated quickly. First up: the Pork Belly Bites. Crispy pork belly tossed with Brussels sprouts in a Thai chili-hoisin glaze, topped with scallion slaw and sesame seeds. This dish was absolutely unreal. Sweet, savory, crispy, sticky, spicy -- every bite hit. Honestly, the ratio of pork belly to everything else was wildly generous, and the bowl disappeared embarrassingly fast at our table. Mandatory order. Then the Scratch Fries arrived, and suddenly we understood why people probably split meals here. Hand-cut fries loaded with shaved ribeye, Worcestershire cheese sauce, spicy bib sauce, candied bacon, ranch, and scallions... basically chaos in the best possible way. The portion was massive, decadent, and fully committed to excess. I genuinely don't know how anyone transitions from these appetizers to an actual entrée without needing a nap afterward. Scratch Kitchen & Taproom somehow manages to feel like a neighborhood hangout for beer nerds and a destination for seriously good comfort food. Great patio, killer local taps, huge portions, and appetizers that completely stole the show..

I had to send my fries back since they weren't crispy, and they nailed them the second go-around. We would absolutely come back next time we are in Cary! Ask for Donovan to be your server - he's a sweetheart and was very on top of things for us. Can't recommend him enough!!

The atmosphere strikes that nice balance between relaxed and refined, where conversation flows without feeling rushed. She went with the filet mignon, cooked medium, and it came out exactly as requested, tender, flavorful, and clearly handled with care. That's what she said. I ordered the chicken pesto entrée, which held its own with a rich, well-balanced flavor that didn't try too hard but delivered where it mattered. Now, the real standout: the Hot Honey Roasted Brussels. Those were done to perfection. Crisp on the outside, tender inside, with just the right touch of sweetness and heat. Frankly, I could eat those daily without a second thought. Service deserves a nod, too. The chef stopped by the table to check in, which we were not expecting. Payton, our server, had a great read on the table, attentive when needed, but gave us the space to enjoy the evening without interruption. That kind of awareness goes a long way, especially on a date. All in, it's the kind of place that quietly does things right. Good food, easy atmosphere, and just enough polish to make the night feel a little special. Definitely a strong choice when you're hoping for a second date that turns into a third.

Owner: Please get that head banging loud music out of there. This may serve your cooks well but not your customers. The profile of a headbanger and a $20 sandwich is not the same. So loud we couldn't have a conversation across the table. We asked the waitperson to lower the music and she did but the volume crept back up before the end of our meal. This was my 4th visit and if the music is that loud again we will turn around and walk out. Not because of the food or service but I would like to communicate with my dining partner throughout the meal.

The side of ridged chips with a little cup of sauce was a nice touch too. For the price, it's excellent value; you feel like you got a full, quality meal without it breaking the bank. The service was outstanding--the young woman at the register was super friendly, helpful, and genuinely nice. She answered questions, made recommendations, and just made the whole experience feel welcoming. No rush, no attitude, just good people. The place itself is clean and comfortable, with unique indoor and outdoor seating options that feel cozy and relaxed. It's not fancy, but it's well-kept and has a nice vibe for eating in. Big bonus points for no tipping culture here--no awkward tip screen shoved in your face, no guilt-tripping prompts. I appreciate when a business pays their staff fairly and doesn't put that pressure on customers. It's refreshing and makes me want to come back even more.

I really enjoyed the Baja turkey sandwich on Dakota bread. This was very flavorful and every ingredient was so fresh and the sandwich is prepared and presented very nicely. My concern was the bread getting wet but it wasn't at all. I would have to agree with this being "the best sandwich on earth" as mentioned on Good Harvest website cafe menu. Baja Turkey is made with turkey breast with chipotle honey lime yogurt sauce, shaved cabbage, pickled red onions, avocado, and pepper jack cheese. I didn't get avocado and added bacon and WOW! What a sandwich this was. Every bite was bursting with excitement. Don't walk, run over there to get yours. You will not be disappointed. I can't wait to try Breakfast. Great Harvest is close proximity to areas I frequent and had never really noticed Great Harvest in all these years. I'm glad I have experienced what they have to offer. The service was pleasant. The staff were helpful. They offer all types of fresh baked goods and were also offering samples. I passed on the baked sweet goodies but I bet they're just as delicious. It's a small cafe style space and it somewhat reminds me of LaFarm.

While we were standing in line, one of the staff members asked us if we wanted to try some of the fresh bread, and of course we said yes :) we picked the Parmesan-y one and it was very tasty! For our actual lunch, I snagged the Italian on white bread, while my wife got the Green Goddess turkey sandwich on honey wheat. The food was prepared quickly and the staff member who delivered it was super nice! My sandwich was pretty tasty, with a solid olive tapenade, but I kind of wish I had picked a different bread since the white ended up being nice and soft but also a little boring :) Hey, they recommended that I pick that one! Also, each sandwich came with a pickle, which my wife described as being a bit too salty - I'm not a huge fan of pickles so I passed mine over to my wife. Overall, my experience was very solid. I'm not sure I would drive out of my way to come here, but if I was in the area, I'd definitely come back.

It took some time to find parking as the surrounding parking lots were full, but I found street parking around the corner. The ambiance is warm and cozy. Brew and the Cary Theater share common space, so you can enter from either entrance. The service is awesome, I was waited on right away and the barista was helpful with suggestions. I ordered a cookie butter latte and an oatmeal raisin cookie w/ walnuts. Both were absolutely delicious, a great combo. When I finished my latte, I dipped my cookie in the cup to get the last of the foam...so good. The baked goods are from Ninth Street Bakery in Durham. How amazing local supporting local. I sat at the bar area. I loved that there were hooks underneath for your belongings, you don't see that everywhere. They have the high top areas, along with a few tables and chairs. I'm so glad I was able to finally experience Brew, looking forward to going back.

Overall, the little coffee shop is cute and has a little bit of outdoor seating which I liked but is expensive for being so mid in my opinion. I ended up paying almost $7 for a blueberry latte. Overall, my latte tasted like a regular latte, even though it did have a seasonal blueberry syrup added to it. I know that blueberry is very light in flavor compared to coffee so I asked for more than the allotted amount of syrup and their response was that they had a certain amount added to of syrups added. So I said ok thinking they would take that into consideration but when I got my coffee, guess the amount they added didn't matter because it tasted the same as a latte regular. Unfortunately, at the end of my coffee (like the last 20%) had what I assume to be bits of berry in it? The texture made me toss the remaining amount. With the high prices and the location right on a busy street / no parking I probably wouldn't be back but I did enjoy being about to sit outside under an umbrella and the service was nice / fast. All the stars would go to the servers and overall cleanliness honestly.
