Decided to book an appointment after looking at their cool website. Booked online. That was convenient when you work in a cubicle. They called to confirm, and I actually got right in. Salon is in 5 points area. Decent parking. I was afraid I wouldn't find a place but they seem to have enough spots. I was pleasenly surprised how quiet it was. Nice to get your hair done without having to shout. (My last salon was huge with high ceilings). The staff seems to be on the younger side, but they accommodated me and a couple others on the other side of 40 great. Annie did a great job! Last week, I had my hair cut and colored by Mint. It's like she could read my mind and knew exactly what I dreamed of. I'm in love with my hair. I would recommend her and this salon in general to ANYONE. Very welcoming and friendly staff and you'll laugh and have fun the whole time you're there. I received excellent hair cuts and color from a stylist at this salon, definitely the best I have had since moving down to Raleigh several years ago. However, the stylist recently moved to another salon. Mark Christopher will not tell me where she went or even give me her last name, and now I cannot locate her. I think this is very unprofessional of them. I would not recommend this salon for that reason. read more

I am disappointed with this salon. Over the summer I had an appointment booked and came in 5 minutes early. I walk to the front desk where two employees were on a computer and neither of them even looked up at me or greeted me. They didn't say a word to me, so I told them my name and said I was here for my appointment and one of them finally looks at me and says I can be seated in the lobby area. I sat there for 25 minutes and no one came. Eventually the receptionist came up to me and said, "What are you here for?" I told her I was here for my appointment that was 20 minutes ago and she tells me, "Oh, we hadn't even checked you in." Then I was placed with a different stylist than I had originally asked for. He was very nice and the haircut itself was fine. I believe this whole situation happened because I don't dress or look like their regular customers (wealthy middle aged women). I decided to forget about this experience and still consider Mark Christopher Salon for haircuts in the future, until this week. I called twice yesterday to book an appointment and there was no answer. I called back today and someone picked up and asked if I was ok with being put on hold, which I agreed to, and then I remained on hold for 10 minutes before hanging up. It is a Wednesday afternoon, so there is no reason why I should have been on hold that long. Mark Christopher provides great haircuts however it needs to improve its staff. I expect better from a high class salon. read more

I just love this place! Everyone has always done a fantastic job! Currently I have been going to Dan and he is so incredibly awesome! It is not just a good haircut or color service - it is the whole experience that is always top notch. Meaning, from the second you walk in to the moment you leave - so different from any other salon I have been to. At the beginning of my experience, I had damaged hair so I spent 3 months worth of treatments to correct my hair in order to dye my hair without it falling out or anything in that nature. After those 3 treatments (spread out by 4 weeks each) and continuous hair care on my own part, I decided to go ahead and get a balayage done. I was a brunette asking for a blonde balayage with my dark roots. I asked the stylist Cat multiple times if she was able to do mimic the picture I showed her many times. She said yes, and we scheduled an appointment. I was still a bit hesitant if the look could be achieved, so we agreed on testing a strand of my hair before doing all my hair. When I arrived at my appointment, all was said in the beginning was a simple greeting and asking if I was ready. She then continued to do my entire hair instead of the strand first that we previously spoke about. This was because I have spent months of time and money to correct my hair as much as possible to prepare it for dye. During the appointment, I found many strands of my hair to be falling out of the foils. After the color was done, I asked for my hair to be curled. The stylist then diffused my hair a bit leaving my hair somewhat dry and frizzy. She asked me what I thought of my hair indicating that she was finished. I replied in a very quiet tone that I did not particularly like the hair explaining that I felt it was a bit dingy and not what I asked for. I was extremely quiet and calm to which she replied in a very rude and condescending tone that she liked it and felt like I would not have liked anything. I felt this was very unprofessional, rude, and simply not true considering I spent all this time preparing for that moment. At that point, I just wanted to pay the bill and I would have still left a reasonable tip as I believe in compensating people fairly. She called her manager over there to literally scold me how I was being rude that I did not like my OWN hair. She claimed that she it was what I asked for considering what she heard at the beginning of the appointment... does she mean the simple greeting and asking me if I was ready? I was very clear with the stylist what I wanted to achieve during the appointment. The manager proceeds to get snippy with me even when I was explaining that I did not ask to see a manager, I just wanted to pay and leave. The manager continues on and on, and at that point--- I start to get really upset and embarrassed as she is making a scene and trying to make me feel bad that I did not like the hair that I did not ask for. I begin to get emotional and upset as this random lady continues to scold me how I am treating the stylist poorly when I spoke literally two sentences in the quietest tone that I just did not like it after she asked for my OWN opinion about my OWN hair. As I am getting upset, I say at this point I'd like to leave because this is just bullsh*t as this lady continues to attack me when she does not even know the situation at all. She then freaks out and asks for me not to cuss at her and all this nonsense claiming that I am acting incredibly rude. At this point, I am so confused because I literally have tears in my eyes because I spent a lot of time and money waiting to get my hair done. I was not rude, in fact I was so quiet and calm that I was confused on even why the manager was involved. Finally the conversation ends when I insist on paying for the service, which the manager said its free of charge so I left. Both the stylist and the manager exhibited extremely unprofessional and rude behavior. They both went out of their way to embarrass me in front of the whole salon. I honestly believe that it was an ego thing with the stylist.... I can not help if I do not like my OWN hair and it is not what I asked for after spending all this time to only end up with more damaged hair again. It took everything in me not to absolutely lose it and display the same disgusting behavior as the two mentioned. Yet, I was still willing to pay for the service and tip..I have never left a review for a business before, nevertheless a bad one. However, this experience was the worst I have ever had. I have worked in customer service for many years, and I can assure you this is NOT the way to treat customers, especially when the customer is being extremely reasonable as well as nice. I would NOT recommend this salon. read more

After moving here a couple years ago I have had trouble finding a great stylist who understands what I want and who takes their time to get to know me and my hair. I'm so happy to have found this salon and Annie! She gave my daughter and I the best service. We love our hair! I haven't felt so good about my hair since I moved here. I do wish the prices were lower and we didn't get charged for longer time or more product, seemed like things kept adding up and we were out of the salon with over $300 spent. After doing plenty of research on who specializes in blondes, I went to see Steve. I wanted to go from my natural light brown to a blonde look.at my consultation, Steve suggested a blonde balayage. The day of my appointment I was so excited to get started. Steve is totally fabulous and a great conversationalist during my time in the chair. We finished and I went home. It was less expensive than I thought it would be. After a few hours, I thought it looked a little stripey. I called the salon to mention I was not sure I was totally I love with it, so they fit me in a few days later for an adjustment. Now I've never gone back to a salon because I didn't like my hair in fear that I would have a bad second experience. I was expecting to kind of get a side eye for requesting a "redo". I went in with full expectations that I would need to pay for my second visit. After all, Steve did exactly what I requested. When I went in for the adjustment, Steve greeted me with such grace and happily lightened and added extra foil to blend it out. Steve exceeded my expectations and my hair looks fabulous. I am just thrilled about how kind they were about it. Their biggest concern was that I was 100% happy. And they didn't even charge me for my second visit. I'm so happy they paired me with Steve and I will definitely be back. Thank you!!! read more

I had an appointment with Steve. The cut he did was good but when we were done and it was time to dry my hair he asked how I wanted him to style it. I said "just round brush." I then went on to say "no straightening iron or anything." He starts to blow dry it then says "I'm going to do a beach wave look." He didn't tell me it would cost more, he didn't ask if I wanted it. As he was doing it he even said "your hair doesn't hold curl." No shit! I know my hair, there is no point in curling it because no it does not hold curl. Well after he got done curling my hair for no reason and loading it with hairspray which I was not at all interested in they charged me extra for curling my hair. It's too bad because I like the cut I just consider that so rude. I still left him a tip because I can't stand not to but looking back I should have just let that curl charge be his tip. I walked into this place in my scrubs, which might have been my first mistake, because the whole place has a 'you-better-be-in-yoga-pants-and-just-had-a-kale-smoothie' vibe. Well I had super long hair for most of my life, and I was ready for a big change and a brand new look so I made an appointment at this salon with one of the more experienced staff. Well, the guy was less interested in me and more interested in rambling off semi-appropriate stories while glancing at his watch and out the window CONSTANTLY (I'm serious- constantly- while he had the dryer on my hair he was staring out the window). But you know that part of haircuts can always be weird so who cares what you have to sit through as long as they've done a good job. But no- the haircut was horrible. It was an objectively terrible haircut. My little sister probably could have done the same thing in my bathroom. I paid SEVENTY DOLLARS for the most boring, middle aged mom haircut I've gotten in my entire life. And nothing against middle aged moms or their haircuts, but again if the stylist took half a second to listen to me he would have known I wanted a short, fun and playful loon. Maybe I could have gotten a decent haircut if I interrupted him multiple times and criticized what he was doing while he was doing it. Who knows. Point is, he took no time to actually figure out what I wanted, and essentially didn't care. Terrible place. You pay extra money for less customer service here. And the vibe of the place is uncomfortable-- like sterile money. My terrible haircut (in both service and haircut quality) was salvaged and by Sky Parlor where I got the best haircut of my life. I will never go here again even though it's minutes from my house. read more

Mark Christopher Salon is hands down the best salon in Raleigh. Excellent stylists, warm and friendly atmosphere, and I always leave feeling 110% better than when I walk in. I have been Sarah's client for some time now. She is extremely talented and always ensures that I am happy when I leave. Many stylists will cut and color your hair how you want it, no matter if it will suit your hair type, face, and lifestyle. I appreciate that Sarah takes the time to listen to what I would like, but also tells me what will look good on me, as well as what will and will not work with my hair type. No cookie cutter hair cuts at this salon - everyone is treated as an individual and the cuts and colors that are done on clients are proof that everyone there works hard to ensure their clients look great and are happy when they leave. I would recommend Sarah to anyone, but if she is not available, I would not hesitate to recommend any of the stylists at Mark Christopher Salon. The salon, as I mentioned above, is the best in Raleigh. Great environment, great stylists, they sell great hair products, and my hair has never looked or felt better. If you want a professional color and/or cut that is as individual as you are, going to Mark Christopher Salon is a must. On my daughter's second visit to the salon she wanted to do a ombre color and brought a photo. The haircut was wonderful as usual but the color looked nothing like what she asked for. The stylist was very impressed with the job they did and my daughter was confused by their enthusiasm. That evening and the next morning I spoke several times with the salon and salon owner. I did not feel comfortable getting the color "fixed" by the original stylist and they could not accommodate our work schedules for an appointment with someone else. I tried another salon who brought her hair back to natural so she could go to work without embarrassing hair. When I tried to schedule with Mark Christopher salon for them to fix the ombre I was informed that because the other salon ruined her hair, my daughter (this was not the rude term they used) would have to pay for yet another full service. Do not go to this salon they have no respect for their customers. read more

The second time I went I asked for a smoky grey look and turn out green and blue. I came in with a haircut photo which was super simple with swept long bang that was blended with beachy waves (which my hair has already) . So, I thought that this should be very easy on the hairdresser. I also had my hair colored as well. Due to the poor lighting in the salon I did not realize that the color looked flat grey..no where near blonde and not at all what I wanted. I wanted blonde hair color with dimension in my hair and it is one flat grey color now.. The hairdresser slapped some color on it that was put on messily and was one color (which I did not ask for) ..I wanted dimension . The hairdresser cut my hair and then started styling my hair (he straightened it) without asking me how I felt about the cut and he thought he was done until I asked him about the bang, he just chopped a piece of hair off and did not blend it at all. It looks like a beauty school beginner cut it. The rest of the cut was not any better. He also did not ask how I usually style my hair and if he would have asked I could have told him that I usually let it dry naturally so that my natural waves show. This was the worst experience I have ever had in a salon. My hair is a hot mess now and I have to figure out now how to make it look somewhat decent because I have to meet Directors on a daily basis plus I am getting married as well. So, you can kind of understand how distraught I am at this point after spending $175 later. read more
