You start with the relish bowl and fresh rolls--always loved the relish tray of carrots, radishes, celery and broccoli. Just the way to start. Get the onion rings as an appetizer. Crunchy and tasty. Knock down a couple of Old fashions from the bar, good pours at ridiculously reasonable prices. Salads generous and as fresh you can expect at a little panhandle town. Leave plenty of room for the steaks. Perfectly prepared and huge. One of the best KC strips I have ever had, outside of KC. Outstanding value. Good choices of sides--baked potato was spot on for a classic dinner at a real classy place. Obviously a town institution and for good reason--great service, comfy 1960s interior and great food. Go. Had a nice Gin Bloody Mary, superbly seasoned tomato juice, garnished with some excellent olives. I should have just drank here tonight! Service at the bar was impeccable, good conversation and prompt service. Ordered Fish and Chips with a side of Shrimp. As for the fish, the batter was soft and doughy (tempura style), like grabbing fish Twinkies. Very off putting "I made it very clear to the bar keep, the fish was very disappointing" to the point I only ate the corners of two pieces of fish. Fries were also soggy :( There shrimp were placed onto of the fish so maybe they didn't sit steaming as long; getting soggy? Shrimp were edible thankfully. Bananas Foster was alright, not remarkable but fair, I did ask for the mint to freshen the dish up a bit. All in All wasn't worth the $85 tab at all.

This is the only Chinese restaurant in this town and despite the negative reviews, I figured they can't screw up too much on vegs. I checked out their menu and thought the prices were incredibly cheap. Their lunch specials were only $5.50 and the lunch I buffet was only $6.89! I said to hubby how they can even afford to stay in business with such low prices. I would find out later. I can't really comment on the food too much as I just ate a lot of vegs but the food looked just ok. I also got a small bowl of sweet and sour soup and I can't even describe the taste as it was so tasteless. I was glad I just ate vegs. It is a cheap Chinese buffet so I wasn't expecting much anyway. Hubby said nothing really had much taste and commented how they could screw up the chicken wings as it did not even taste like chicken. We went around 1:30pm and saw a huge bus parked outside so the restaurant was pretty packed and they were trying to keep up with the demand. The surprise came when we got our check. We were charged $12 each instead of $6.89. I asked the cashier why she wasn't charging what was listed on the menu and she kept saying repeatedly wrong price sorry. I didn't want to argue as I honestly didn't mind paying $12 as it's still very cheap but this is horrible practice.
