We stopped in here on way to ferry terminal. Just drove thru town and stopped here; no particular reason. I'm so glad we did. It's intimate and cosy, smart looking but trendy/casual without being pretentious! Yes, really. Service at 5 pm was prompt and solid. Menu is pretty generic- appies, salads, pasta, pizza and burgers. Tons of awesome subs like garlic mashed potatoes instead of fries. Hell yes. I had the veggie burger and while it didn't hold together well and was sloppy, the flavour was out of this world. It was juicy and $11 with fries! My bro had a beef burger with cheddar & bacon and said the burger looked pre-made. For the price (around $15) I hope he was wrong but I didn't inspect. He did say was tasty. My niece had Mac & Cheese from the kids menu and it was...BAKED! You could see the bits of real cheese. She was over the moon. So nicec to not have the generic looking stuff... When this restaurant first opened up the food was amazing. It had a welcoming atmosphere, and the service was awesome. I find that as time has passed and the owners have changed hands the food quality is not the same. The menu hasn't changed, but the flavour is a little lacking. Good food and over-the-top great service. We booked a dinner reservation for 30 at Mario's the first night of our family reunion, but between Seattle-area traffic and border wait-times, there were only about 15 of us that could make the reservation, and half our group was under the age of 6. Also, we were nearly-all vegetarians. We were, in short, a restaurant's nightmare. Still, Mario's waitstaff was over the top. When another 5 members of our group showed up halfway through the meal, they squeezed them in with a smile. Either Mario's hires the most convincing actors I've ever met, or the waitstaff was genuinely happy to help us despite the chaos. In addition to my baked tortellini (excellent), I managed to sample about 4-other dishes from other people in our group, and they were all excellent. When we got the bill, I was surprised at how low it was. Whether it's with another big group or for a more intimate dinner, I'll be back at Mario's any chance I get. read more

Being new to the area I had no idea where I was ordering from and just chose Marios Kitchen at random. I've ordered about a dozen times since then and it is some of the best pizza I've ever eaten. Every time I eat it I ponder how I could have settled for the slop on greasy bread that comes from the chain pizza shops for so long. Even after ordering from them for some time I still assumed it was some little small town, 3 formica tables with plastic tablecloths kind of place. When I finally stopped in to pick up an order on my way home one evening I was blown away to discover that it's a really lovely little restaurant, extremely warm and inviting with crisp white linen tablecloths and candle light. And guess what...they serve more than just amazing pizza. This place really is an oasis in a town desperately in need of one. You could plop Marios Kitchen down in Kits, Coal Harbor, Yaletown, etc. and it wouldn't be out of place at all. I continue to be impressed. read more

Amazing food, and great ambience! Darren and his wife Liz have truly done an amazing thing with Mario's... I love that on any given night you come in and see Darren and/or his wife walking around the restaurant and talking to patrons as well as helping the staff! If you are luck enough to be waiting for a table on the busier nights, you might get the chance to try their flatbread pizza (they offer you as you wait), and you will also be offered water while you wait! We had one incidence where we picked up a food order, and due to a miscommunication with the kitchen, we ended up waiting a little bit longer than we should have; I decided to let Darren know as I know how high his standards are, I had sent my email at 10PM that night, and by 11:15PM... he had already emailed me and apology and credited me the meal, the way that he handled this EXCEEDED my expectations and shows me just how much he cares about his restaurant, his staff and his customers... we will definitely be back, a lot! read more

This was a sad experience. We were told they were busy. But they said go next door (owned by them) said we will have table ready in 15 min. No sooner did we get served by a lovely waitress that said she works both places (honest too). Within 5 minutes or so we were Thulfiqar hurry your table is ready! So we wolfed our beers down. Got next door to find out the people were still in the seats and will be awhile I would have loved to come t on food bit we never had the chance as we 5 of us were all pissed off and left. Took the day off and came over to the Mainland for a change. After the ferry ride and lineup of cars, we decided to stopover in TSWASSEN for lunch. Found Mario's by packed parking lot. Promptly seated by good staff and ordered. I had the Cajun chicken spinach salad,...awesome!! Flavourful from top to bottom. Good price and portion. My wife had French onion soup and she found it very good, I agree as I had managed to snag a spoonful! Nice clean place, great service and food. Will recommend. read more

Came all the way from Chicago where we have some of the best food anywhere and happened upon this absolutely delicious place because of YELP. Came here on a friday evening with wife and kids. Was seated right away which was nice and promising for our first visit there. We sat...we waited... we waited some more... finally my 7 year old writes on his menu "why they don't serve us"... we waited 19 minutes from when we sat down to when a server finally came over to offer to fill up our water glasses. Very welcoming staff..they were able to accommodate all of our needs. Very polite and responsive. Food was hot and fresh and tasted absolutely phenomenal. Desserts were also AMAZING! The positive reviews brought me to this restaurant, and I'm sorry to say that my experience was not. It's sad because I love supporting small business. I honestly do not understand where the positive reviews are coming from. My husband and I had dinner here tonight for the first time, and it will also be our last. Despite the restaurant being 3/4 *empty*, service was painfully slow. There were about four servers on the floor, and all of them seemed to be more concerned about getting their work done (i.e. folding napkins, putting stuff away, etc.) than tending to us. I'm guessing they either didn't want to stay late after closing, or they were just oblivious. Dinner was light: a Manhattan clam chowder (the red one) to start, followed by meat lasagna for him, and steamed mussels for me. The chowder arrived lukewarm, which is kind of gross considering it's a seafood dish. It also contained very few clams and quite a lot of salmon...surprising since it was marketed as a Manhattan *clam* chowder, and not a seafood chowder. Flat-tasting and fishy, we tried very hard to like it, but just couldn't. The bits of shell in the soup were also unpleasant. The lasagna portion was huge, but there was just too much cream and salt to taste anything else, and whatever beef mince we could taste had a strange flavour that was off putting. (Think about that weird tinned taste you get from eating Chef Boyardee out of the can.) The order size for steamed mussels was too small to be called an entree, and the broth, which is my favourite part, was over-the-top salty and inedible. The fries were hot, but were soggy because they sat in the bowl they were served in too long. I also bit into a fry (one that looked like a skin piece) and crunched down on a mound of grit. For the first time in my life, I did *not* finish my fries. Servers: pay attention to your customers. Kitchen staff: clean up your act. Inattentive service and yucky food: I'd be throwing away my money and a fool to come back. read more

Food was pretty dam tasty and came out within minutes. Ambiance was nice. I would recommend this spot if your in the area and looking for a hearty meal. We feasted for $117.00, $140 if you include the tip. We felt that the service could have been more energetic, however we came at the very end of the night so she might have been tired. Disappointing update. They have added a $3 surcharge to delivery?? Why?? I have been told that the driver only gets 1$ of that.... :( isn't management making enough money. We have ordered takeout from this restaurant several times for last minute meals with friends and kids at home. One of our friends can't do dairy or gluten and still has a happy smile after every meal as they have enough options for her to find something yummy and have choices. Popped in at a strange time on my way to the ferry fresh off the plane. The waitstaff was still on point. We had a beer sampler, all good. We split a burger, it was great. Went to Mario's Kitchen on a Monday night and was treated to a very good meal and dining experience. This place is very pretty, and the decor set a very welcoming mood. There were some cool tilt-shift photos in the hallway to the bathroom, the pieces put into the establishment were definitely intentionally thought out. My friend remarked how the exterior would fit in any nice neighbourhood, with the twinkle lights and contemporary design. There is ample seating inside and ample parking in the front of the restaurant as well. The patio is sizable and looks like an inviting place to dine in warmer weather. Too bad we didn't have that option! This place boasts a massive menu and our party had trouble choosing our meals because options looked so good! Lucky for us, we all chose correctly, and based on the chorus of impressed "yums" during the sampling round, there was a consensus at our table. We tried: Veggie burger: with what seemed like a black bean patty (?), the burger looked very juicy. The fries were crispy at the ends and handcut, kennebec style. BBQ's Texan Salad: the chicken was dressed with a strong BBQ Sauce, if you're into that sort of thing. The seasoning of the salad was well balanced with the mild avocado and tortilla chip strips, and the presentation of the salad was very appetizing. It was gigantic! Penne Pacifico: I subbed linguine instead and it was delicious. The scallops kind of disappeared in the dish, but I was still glad I ordered it. The other seafood in the pasta did not disappoint, and the sauce was delicious. This was also a large dish, and I took the leftovers home - enough for another full meal. Chorizo Gorgonzola Mac and Cheese: baked and served in a long ramekin. Made with such convincing GF pasta that we couldn't even tell the difference. The gorgonzola, despite being such a prominent flavour, really elevated the "cheesiness" of the dish and was not overwhelming at all. The garlic bread that was served with the pasta was authentic and complimented the pasta - it wasn't the kind with cooking oil sprayed on it as another reviewer remarked, maybe that was under different ownership. There were also plenty of gluten free options. Huge cocktails for $6 and martinis for $8, will try their flights when we return. It was a quiet night, and service was attentive, informative and friendly. They didn't even kick us out after the closed the place down! read more

We came across the ferry from Victoria to Tsawwassen and checked Yelp for a dinner recommendation. We were not disappointed! We all shared a deluxe pizza, ribs and the Cajun salad. Everything was very tasty. It was well worth the slight diversion from the freeway. The ribs came with coleslaw, which my mom said was awesome. The only disappointment was that they only give you about 2 spoonfuls in a tiny cup. My husband had a beer that he really liked. Everything hit the spot! read more
