We were so excited Marion's was finally open that we went the Tuesday it opened. We'd been monitoring the news for what seemed like over a year waiting for it to open. We got there at 6:30 which seemed like prime time. There were very long lines for food and drinks, but by the time we got our food the lines were back to normal. Definitely make sure you bring your ID in. My husband (over 30) was ID'd, but had left it in the car so they wouldn't serve him. There's a huge patio outside that will be awesome when the weather warms up. They take credit cards which is unlike any other Marion's I've been too. They are missing all the autographed famous people pictures. It was slower than normal, but what can you expect on an opening night that's been in the works for over a year? read more

I went here and still have no idea why anyone recommended we go. The outside looks like it's going to be a great place. Then you enter. It's basically a cafeteria. This was our first time at Marion's. Everyone raved about it. We walked in to a cafeteria style restaurant. The pizza was dry. What sauce I did taste did not have any flavor other than tomato sauce. There was way too much sausage on our pizza. You could not taste the other meats. It fell off in bunches. There were kids running around all over throwing tiny little balls. Food: pizza is good. Thin crust and flavorful. Pasta, eh, not great but edible. Meatballs, nothing special. Reuben sandwich, well, with my ethnicity, nothing compares to NYC. It took me a minute to venture up to Mason to try Marion's. The three stars on Yelp didn't help, but went for lunch yesterday and was pleasantly surprise. I'll admit that everything about Marion's didn't knock my socks off, but reading through some of the wimpy complains on here help push me toward five. Here's how I break this place down: 5 stars: Service was excellent. The cashier was incredibly helpful, and was ready to help us decide what to get. Cleanliness. Yeah. This place is big and spotless. Food was as good as I expected from a restaurant that advertises their pizza as one of of the best. I wouldn't rank it as a personal best, but it was really good. Better than most. Prices were also fair. We had the lunch special which was just over $5. I had a boring salad with my meal, but the lettuce was fresh and the Italian was great. Less than 5 Star oddities: Please, people, with the signs. Just stop. There's a sign on the front door advising me not to bring food in from outside. Another one tells me not to throw salad bowls away. Yet another warns against taking drinks into the arcade. I get it. These are all problems. But are people really bringing food and drinks into your establishment? A lot? I bet most people know they aren't supposed to do that. It was the absolute first thing I noticed as I entered. A threat. Thanks. I think the drink arrangement is fine. Their pricing is fair and they offer reasonably priced refills. That's said, it's soda people. I get it. Some people buy one for their family of 5. But others don't. Figure out how many people do it and maybe raise the price $0.50 to offset it. I know. I then pay more. But it's just a strange arrangement. And people that don't know beforehand will be pissed. And they're kind of right. So Marion's, I hope you succeed in Mason. We really liked Marion's the times we have gone. I can see what people are saying in the other reviews but I wouldn't really put Marion's in the same bucket as other pizza places. I don't consider this traditional pizza based on where I am originally from but it is tasty in its own way and their location is nice. Give it a try and see what you think of it. The setup of this place is the definition of dumb. You have to wait in line to order pizza. Then you wait in a separate line to order your drink. Refills aren't free. They won't give you a pitcher of water, so if you get water and want a refill, you have to wait in line. I went at lunch and spent 10 minutes in EACH LINE. As far as pizza goes: not good. Totino's (yes, the cheap $3.99 frozen pizzas) taste better. I ordered the Supreme, which comes with mushrooms, onions, green peppers, sausage and pepperoni. The mushrooms were obviously canned and tasted like rubber. Same for the green peppers. The sausage was flavorless and tasted like ground beef. At $9.75 for a 9" Supreme, it's hardly worth it. Yum! I've only ever done carry out from this place. The interior is very strange. Kind of dismal looking to be honest, but seems like a good place to bring the kids and they can run around and be obnoxious and it's no big deal. As far as pizza, all I can say is Super Cheese pizza!!! It's so so fantastic. Their sausage is unique. It's like they grate it right on top of the pizza. Super Cheese is basically their take on a supreme pizza and then they cover it with a ton of cheese. Marion's Piazza first opened in Dayton, Ohio over forty-five years ago, and they have since expanded to a total of nine locations. I ate at its newest location in Mason, a northeastern suburb of Cincinnati. Marion's first restaurant in Dayton served as somewhat of a trailblazer by offering seating for over two hundred people in its dining room at a time when most pizza places only offered carryout, and their restaurant in Mason continues this tradition by having a very large seating capacity. Additionally, the decor fits with Marion's original goal of bringing an Italian piazza, or courtyard, inside to provide the feel of an outside dining experience throughout all months, no matter the Midwest weather. The pizza at Marion's Piazza has a thin crust that is supposedly referred to as "Dayton-Style Pizza." I really enjoyed this crust as it was crispy but not charred and had just the right amount of cornmeal on the bottom of it. I was also intrigued by their cutting of the pizza into very small, almost bite-sized, squares as this made it very easy to convince myself to just have one more slice on several occasions. Additionally, their pizza has a different texture than most, and I felt as though the sauce, cheese, pepperoni, and sausage on my pizza all melded together to create one singular taste - like a hotdog of pizzas. Overall, I enjoyed the thin, and not too filling, pizza served at Marion's Piazza, but I can't say that it offers quite as much flavor as pizza at other restaurants. read more

While the price point on my 1/2 sandwich was nice, the taste was not at all great. I got half a meatball sandwich for $3.xx and a pitcher of Pepsi for $4.xx. I also took home a pizza for my husband and he said it was OK. The place is huge, ample space and lighting. You can call ahead to reserve tables if needed. I don't think I will be going back. No refills on drinks unless you pay full price, plates and plastic eating utensils aren't readily available, you have to ask for them. read more

A Dayton classic for years finally comes South to Cincinnati area. Best thin/crispy pizza around. Pricey but worth it. None of the Dayton locations take credit cards but this location does. It seems to me that Marion's is pretty much a love it or hate it pizza place. Well I LOVE it! I love the thin crust, the crumbled sausage and other toppings diced small. The Super Cheese is my favorite. It has sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, peppers, and a ton of cheese. So good! We love Marion's pizza, but noticed that others have found the place. Part of the reason is that they offer rooms for parties and allow reserved tables for sports teams, etc. It has been busy on some of our visits. The reason for the liking of their pizza is that it is different than New York, Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, ... pizza. So the thin crust is the original recipe for Marion's and Cassano pizza which both started business in Dayton OH. So that is the history. Reading the reviews I note the dislike for this type of pizza. So if you have a favorite type, I recommend that you stick to that style of pizza you like. There are a ton of choices for pizza to eat near Mason. So we ate their Steak sandwich and Sub sandwich on Friday - they were great. Just the way I remember from 30 years ago. Another comment I notice is the separate lines for drinks from ordering food. All of their stores are setup that way. The downside is getting into another line after ordering food, but it is convenient when reordering drinks. So good and bad approach, which I did not realize until reading other reviews - which seemed interesting when reading. Hope this review helps and obviously it's a subjective subject - 'the best pizza'. read more

This place is not great. If you're looking for good, flavorful pizza, made with quality ingredients look somewhere else. Everything about this pizza was not great. The pizza had the flavor equivalent of cardboard, it was almost like you're licking a brand new sheet of drywall. The crust was thin and premade (not fresh). The pepperoni kept falling off because there was not enough adhesion from the cheese. The sauce tasted like ketchup but not nearly as flavorful. The salad was Iceberg lettuce, it had minimal nutritional value, the dressing was extremely salty and gross. The experience is that you buy the pizza and wait for them to call your number. There is also a separate line for drinks, there are not free refills except on water. No one waits on you are asks you about your service or if you enjoy your food. Moral of the review, if you want good pizza go somewhere else. read more

Cool looking exterior...that's where the positives end. Interior is like a school cafeteria. Pizza is pre-assembled, sitting on racks waiting for someone to order it. Pizza came out slightly warm with little or no flavor. It is pricey and the most annoying part of the meal is having to pay separate for your drink. (2 credit card transactions within minutes of each other) Whoever thought this was a good idea should be on Monster right now looking for employment. If I'm marooned on an island and my only source of nourishment is Marion's....I will take a pie and attempt to use it as a weapon, flotation device, or bartering tool with the natives. We love this place. It's one of our favorite pizza places around. The only reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five is because it is a little pricey. That being said, you can usually always find coupons in the local Reach magazine or sometimes they give out coupons for your next visit there at the restaurant. And I wish they'd add other options to their menu like breadsticks or other types of pasta and salads. But their pizza is excellent! I have had it in Dayton before they opened one here in Mason so I was excited to see it open here. It's different than typical pizza places. Thin crispy crust and cut into bite sized pieces. I have not tried the sandwiches yet but have seen others eating them and they are pretty big. We have had it there and taken it to go. Aside from when it first opened, we have never had to wait too long for our food. Other than the price, it's very good, different than what you'll find anywhere else, and if my 4 year old inhales it you know it must be good :) They also have a separate room you can reserve for parties or events. read more

Okay, so those of you who like a thin crusted, super salty and topping edge-to-edge kind of pizza are going to LOVE this place. I went with trepidation after reading the reviews on here, but went with a friend who is a Dayton resident, so he was familiar with how to order (food separate from drinks). I can see that if you are a first-timer, it might be a bit confusing and even though I didn't order pop, it would have annoyed me that there are no free refills. In the end, I loved the food, the atmosphere and the outdoor patio. Plus, I can take all four kids out for a reasonable price and I can get a pitcher of beer too... The pizza at Marion's is average at best. It's a standard sauce, thin crust that doesn't hold any heat (it was cold halfway through our meal) and the ingredients we had were average. The uniqueness of this place is its size and location. The whole thing where you order food in one spot and drinks at another is weird and more time spent than necessary, but not a huge deal in general. Being in Mason where you have all the chains plus Larosas, West Shore, Apontes, and others, we are not going back for the food. There are two sizes of pizza, a 9" and 13". A 13" with a topping or two is as much or more than LaRosas, especially if you're using Buddy cards...and doesn't hold a candle in the taste department. We may go when there is a big event for a bunch of kids, but only if someone else is organizing it. You won't miss anything if you don't go. read more

I've been there 3 times in as many years and always find the taste of the pizza to be most underwhelming. For those from Dayton who swoon over the product, that's understandable since you grew up with it. Those from the east coast almost become unhinged if you ask how they feel about Marion's. But here's the good news for those who love it. The place is always empty, so you should never have to wait to get anything to eat. Very few others care to eat there if the number of cars in the parking lot is any indication. Did someone say crowd? What crowd? Every time I drive by the place it's so consistently empty, I wonder how they can afford to stay open. The pizza can be described as bland. A salad is white iceberg lettuce served in a styrofoam bowl. The draft beer and soft drinks are good and cold, but you have to order and pay at a separate location away from where the pizza is ordered. Very strange. Huge building. Great for large groups, but there is no floor staff for serving food or drinks. It's all self- serve. Come get it when your number is called. read more

Mass made, canned sauce, served on paper plates, plastic utensils, pizza is served on the coardboard it tastes of, tasteless greasy cheese, drinks are charged separately and are full-priced for refills, dirty floors and tables, bland decorating, bland servers and worse than eating in a school cafeteria. The outside of the building is extremely nice but the inside is like a bad 90's TV mall if you ripped out all of the walls. Not a fan of the one line for food and one line for drinks, especially if you pay by credit card. We knew this going in from previous reviews and this is one if the reasons we had not gone here yet, but it still felt weird. The pizza is thin crust and cut into little squares, which was a plus. There are not a ton of topping options. Basic pizza toppings. We ordered two pizza. It was not crowded for a Friday night and there were a lot of dirty tables. The pizza was done quickly. The sauce is bland and the mushrooms are canned, which is not a plus. The crust tasted like it was precooked was and then the toppings were added. My first, and only, visit to Marion's was at the insistence of co workers who attended the University of Dayton. I honestly don't see the big draw for it. The place is very large and can easily accommodate large groups. The pizza however is nothing special. It's not gourmet like Dewey's nor Chicago style, New York, style etc. It's just basic pizza. The price point is also a bit higher that I would have expected. The only reason I can see to recommend Marion's is if you have a large group of people. You'll see many birthday parties, high school sports teams, etc eat at Marion's. read more
