The wings weren't bad either but weren't our favorite (we like our wings saucy). I don't know what everyone else thinks but pizza and wings is not the cheap dinner you expect it to be anymore. Different from the thicker and fluffier Sicilian style square slice, a grandma slice is a thinner, crispier style pizza that is layered with cheese and followed by dollops or drizzles of hearty, garlicky tomato sauce. Mario and Salvos has truly mastered a wonderful grandma style pizza- so much so, they were even named the best pizza in Syracuse and we'd have to agree. So far this is the most authentic NYC style pizza I've found in CNY. The pizza is thin, crispy, and light. The sauce is seasoned and the oregano is prominent, so if that's not your thing you may not like it. Personally, it's not a preference, but I did not mind it. What's not pictured is the Sicilian slice and buffalo chicken slice that I had. The Sicilian, despite looking dense was far from. It was very light. Shockingly light. It was crispy yet the dough was soft (not undercooked soft). I really enjoyed it. The buffalo chicken slice, while also thing and light did not do it for me. The chicken was on the drier side and lacked a strong buffalo flavor. I'll pass on this the next time. I loved the interior. The sign/menu on the inside was very nostalgic looking. Think old school NYC pizzeria. Loved it. Service was good, the owner checked up on everyone who was eating and asked how the quality of food was. I liked that he cared about it. Today was the first day that I ordered for curbside pickup and no one answered the phone. At 38 weeks pregnant, with my 3 year old we went inside and our order was not ready at the designated time. We then waited for 30 minutes and our order was never announced. Finally when asked again someone grabbed an order from the already made shelf (presumably for someone else) and gave it to me. The ambiance was very busy this Friday evening around 6pm. There were many employees working and an equal amount of customers standing around the counter. Saw in Syracuse newspaper review of the many pizza places in the surrounding communities. This spot finished #1. As it's just off 481 in DeWitt, while driving through that area made my first stop. This is what you'd imagine a 70's style pizzeria, staffed with a cast of characters. Busy lunch and dinner times(lots of deliveries) my timing was perfect at 4:00. Just went to try a slice for lunch. Small pizzeria, but several long tables to sit down and enjoy your food. Hard to choose as they had lots of pies out for slices. They are small/ average size slices and I selected broccoli and cheese. They warmed it up and it just took a few minutes. The cheese was tasty and melty, the broccoli cooked nicely and it was thin and had that perfect cooked bottom from the pizza oven. Best pizza in Syracuse! Mario is a generous, kind man that knows how to run a great business. NY style thinner crust pizza with delicious sauce, amazing cheese and a plethora of toppings. The team working there are efficient and sweet. This place is typically pretty busy, so make sure you order in advance during busy times. Just a standard menu, but my go-to pizza on the east side for a cheese or pepperoni. We don't usually have leftovers when we split a large from here. I attribute this to the light, stretchy texture of the dough, but also the fantastic taste. Last time we went, we tried the wings. We ordered 12 hot and asked for extra spicy. They were good sized, crispy enough, and tasted great. They acknowledged the request for extra spicy, but they weren't very spicy. I don't fault them for that; they never claimed to have spicy wings. My only real problem was that they were 11.95 for a dozen. I wanted to write this review in reference to the pizza at this place. I've traveled the country and I'm pretty particular with my pizza. Mario and Salvos in Dewitt, New York is right up there with New York City, Brooklyn, New Haven. The crust is thin, the sauce is like my grandmother used to make not sweet and the amount of cheese that's put onthere is to perfection. You can tell that the ingredients are homemade, and the cheese is right up there with the finest of quality. if you're ever in the Syracuse New York area, I will highly recommend taking the time to stop over to get a slice or for that matter of pie.
