We also had wonderful service from several staff members throughout our meal, so well taken care of. We started with the House-Made Pierogi, the onions are cooked down in butter and sage, the brown butter hits with richness, cool sour cream, then the pierogi melt in your mouth. The texture of the pierogi itself, is tender and pillowy, so the experience isn't just rich flavor, the experience is the texture as well. I had the roast chicken, which comes with whipped potatoes and carrots. A simple dish, packed with incredible flavor. The meat was moist and tender, the skin crisp, the cook spot on. The potatoes, might be Idaho, because the potatoe flavor really comes forward towards mid-bite. The buttery carrots are paired nicely with mint flavor. The sauce is Porcini-Tarragon cream, a very nice choice, really compliments the meal. I was impressed, and I think it speaks volumes to take a simple dish, impart it with rich flavor, technique, and to elevate it. My husband had the lobster spaghetti, but he's currently unavailable for my review. The ambiance is dimly lit, dark colors- rich like their flavors, some brick, and the volume lively. We sat by a window, which was nice at 730 for end of summer twilight. Next visit we'll make our reservation for the patio, which would have been lovely at that time, but we booked short notice- and felt very fortunate to get a table for such a phenomenal restaurant. I keep thinking back, and I'm pretty blown away. It couldn't have been any more perfect. We had an event prior, at Opus 40, Red Onion was the cherry on top! It was my birthday :)

Unfortunately, the pictures+reviews on Yelp are disappointing enough that I almost talked us out of coming here. Hubs still wanted to try it. We were pleasantly surprised. The Bowery D has two flrs. You can sit downstairs- which is used for mostly for events- but we were told most people head upstairs and that's what we did. The main dining rm is carpeted, spacious and has a decent-sized bar. The first thing we noticed was the nice seafood smell in the air. So why come here? Raw oysters for one. Also because hubs has had Lobster Newburgh on his mind lately and the closest thing these folks offer is a mixed seafood Newburgh. He went for it. Result? He liked it. My Swai fish was tasty, though I was expecting something a bit flashier than sweet potato fries. My Jamboozle cocktail didn't have any oomph so I stuck to water after that. Service was great and the food was good. A nice surprise for a spot that doesn't totally shine on Yelp.

Walking in we were seated promptly though we immediately noticed that the interior was extremely dark. Not a big deal but worth flagging for older folks who might have a hard time reading. Our server was friendly and relatively attentive and walked us through the menu. We started off with some classics including their bread and butter (which was tasty and delicious) and ordered their P.E.I Mussels ($19) along with their Fried Brussels Sprouts ($15) to share. The portions were quite large for everything (great if you're in a larger party) but we immediately noticed that the mussels they served seemed a bit off. Many of them were not opened all the way (a sign that they might not be the freshest or recently passed) and had a bit of a fishy taste to them. We ended up not finishing them and flagged them to our waiter. The other items, including the 14oz Ribeye ($43) and baby back ribs ($28) were better, though a bit one-note. The bay back ribs in particular were extremely saucy and the corn bread was dry and a bit tough to eat. I had to use a knife to split it apart as it kept crumbling every time I used a fork. Regardless, it seems like a popular spot for a reason and perhaps we just went during more of an off-night. I'd still recommend checking it out but avoiding the mussels if you go.

Would still return next time I'm in the area!
