So this year we looked at other alternatives and found three other Arborist led Tree Service providers that would do the same work for $1,000 less. Last week the job of pruning, lighting, and opening our large vintage oak tree was completed and we are very satisfied with the job that was done. It pays to evaluate competitive bids. read more

This huge tree is our privacy and our neighbors. A bucket truck is required. We can't believe the tree is still with us & is in good health. I had an appointment for a consultation with Bob and it was cancelled with a few hours notice. Even though I had paid several thousand dollars to work with Marin Tree service in 2019, he decided he no longer wanted to work in Sausalito and would not even come to the phone to explain why. I had waited 3 weeks for this appointment, scheduled the inspection with neighbors and they offered no explanation. I was treated extremely rudely on the phone for no reason they would provide. I had Bob from Marin Tree come out to look at a neighbor's Monterey pine with branches extending over our roof. I appreciated that he took the time to evaluate not just clearing branches I asked about, but what would be best for the health of the tree. The estimate for doing the work, including installing a cable to support the biggest branch, as well as removing a small palm tree, was very fair. I also asked about another conifer while he was here, and Bob said it was in great shape and didn't need any maintenance. No attempt to push for additional work. When the job was performed, the two men were careful and did an excellent job of not damaging any other plants in my yard while dropping large limbs. All was cleaned up well, and they cleaned the gutters while they were up on the roof. Nice! All around good experience, with fair pricing and professional work. read more

We met with Bob as well as 3 other arborist/tree trimmers when we bought our home. We needed 2 large liquid amber trees topped off as well as some juniper, a couple funky leaning pine trees removed so I could plant some plums, apples, pears. They were much less than our other bids and they worked fast and did a great job. The next year we wanted to redo our front yard but needed some ground covering to keep weeds down and they dumped a bunch of wood chips for free. Very generous! read more

I had a great experience. Initially, Bob came over and inspected all of our trees at our new home. He recommended removal of one growing at a bad angle. We liked Bob, so we contracted MTS for the removal. The workmen arrived on time. They dealt with the challenge of the tree overhanging the neighbor's yard and some utility lines. They were fast and thorough. I could not believe two guys could remove such a big tree, but on the other hand, this is the only tree removal I've witnessed from begin to end. On my request, they also cut up all the limbs for firewood. I've taken one star away for clerical oddities. I was asked to make payment before the work was started and then receive the invoice afterwards. This didn't seem right to me; I should only have to pay after getting an invoice. read more

I had a similar experience to Bruce - only it was for wood chips (mulch) delivery. I contacted them and initially they (Amy and Bob both) were very cordial and said they could and would deliver to my address. I was told that Bob wanted to stop by on a Saturday early afternoon to "scout" the space for the dump and I arranged my schedule to be here when it was convenient for him. He never showed up. I wasn't too upset - left a message Monday AM asking what happened and never had a call back. So today I called only to be told that Bob had and I quote "lost interest in the project." No phone call to me to inform me - an apparently no plans to let me know either. Very unprofessional - it takes 30 seconds to call and leave me a message. I would have understood as I am located over the bridge in the city and so was a tad outside their normal delivery area - but to go to all this effort - price the charges for me - ask me to be at home for a meeting - no show and then never call or follow up is totally unprofessional. I HIGHLY recommend Marin County Arborists - 381-8733 They are professional - thoughtful and thus far have been honest and followed up as they said they would. read more

I have only spoken to their contact person via phone. The lady asked me repeatedly if I could hold, to which I said yes. After a few interruptions to hold, I told her I have appointments too, and I could not keep on restarting my sentence. I said I need a bid for an oak tree, and I have spoken to other companies as well. Off the bat, she said they were the most expensive of all tree services, and she gave me the impression she wanted me to take my business elsewhere. It is not about the money, it is about quality and a fair price... I will pass. read more

Hired MTS to prune two small trees in our front yard. They arborist kept asking me what to do...isn't that his job to know what's best for the canopy, etc? He completed the job in 45 minutes and was gone before I could take a look at the job. For $280 that's pretty steep. Won't be using them again.... read more

Thank you Bob, for caring for our trees for at least 20 years now. Roni and his crew showed up today and did a major amount of trimming. The front garden area looks fantastic! We have a small space with several trees competing for attention. Now that they are cut back and nicely shaped they each have a space! The garden itself is lighter and more visible, it is not overshadowed by trees that have grown too tall. We look forward to sharing the word and to working with you again in the future. I have been using Marin Tree Service for many years now. They are professional and very knowledgeable about trees. I met with Bob who told me my trees looked good and he didn't recommend any trimming. He suggested waiting a year. I very recently had MTS out to look at my Monterey Pine which has a lot of drought die-back. Zack recommended spraying for Red Turpentine Beetles which he did. $3500 for 4 men for 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to prune trees & spray trees. The owner, Bob, was supposed to be on telephone stand-by if any problems came up - well he wasn't, he was in a meeting when the problem came up and "missed the call". Rather than chipping the wood back onto the hillside under the trees, because there was an updraft, the foreman chipped into their truck because he could not reach Bob. For $3500, I don't know what meeting Bob was in that could have been more important than my job when he promised me he would be on phone stand by. I should have been consulted. I would have told the crew to chip onto the driveway. My husband was home and they never attempting to advise him of the problem. When Bob came by at mid day (before the problem arose) and asked for a check to pay for the job - I should have known then that there would be a problem. When he left, he was clear and the foreman was clear that they were to chip all the dead wood onto the hillside that it came from so that the trees would be fertilized with the nutrients in the trimmings. I have gone online, some companies sell the wood chips. Bob offered to dump part of the truck back on the driveway in an attempt to fix the problem, but when he came to my property, he came with almost a full truck with other people's wood chippings. Who knows if those trees were diseased. A disappointment, especially when I remember the workers were scooping the ground leaf cover to mulch it, but at the time I thought "well, it is going back onto my hillside under the trees, when they mulch it". I saw the truck bed filled before and after and there was a significant amount of wood chipping that was added to the truck. I will never have them work on my trees again. read more

I want to say that this company does a good job spraying for sudden oak death, ambrosia bark beetles etc. and is affordable relative to other companies. They have been helpful protecting my trees from disease. However, For tree pruning, there are other companies that may be more knowledgeable and careful in their approaches to the trees such as TreePros. read more

I contacted them to help with a large tree that needed quite a bit of help. I was reluctant to try another tree company after wasting a ton of money on a bad job by another company a few years ago. He showed up as promised, looked it over carefully and made an estimate on the spot for a very reasonable price. An appt. was booked with the office. I was unable to be home when the tree was trimmed so I was hoping for the best and expecting the worst. Was I ever THRILLED when I got home. They did a magnificent job on the tree, cleaned up after. They also trimmed some additional bushes at no additional cost and dumped that material too. I would use this business again in a heartbeat. They know how to do the work correctly! read more

The work was scheduled for the following week, then postponed due to another customer having an emergency, which was communicated to me even though I don't live on the property and wouldn't have known about the delay. Bob's depth of knowledge and willingness to scale his work to what I ask for is remarkable. His crew annually sprays our trees for Sudden Oak Death at a very reasonable price. I was grateful that Bob returned to have his workers rectify the original shaping of my tree..however, I would suggest that if you use Marin Tree Service you can speak Spanish because even though his workers can speak English, sometimes your words and their translation don't agree. read more

Between proper trimming and spraying they have come back to life. It makes the whole property look elegant.Got a courteous phone call and follow up email reminding us they were spraying when the rain changed their schedule. Bob Morey's knowledge is impeccable. We have also used him at another job site trimming a very tall, old cedar tree. Fantastic job. Cherry Picker was used etc.He was able to handle a very crowded, residential, down town Mill Valley location with no problems. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY! Several years back Marin Trees did a great job on a large liquid amber, so when more pruning was needed I called them again. BIG MISTAKE. Bob Morey came out and bid pruning 4 plum trees as well as the big tree. They called to cancel on the scheduled day because they had an emergency storm-related job, which I understood, even though I had taken the day off. I was not able to be at home when they came back, however, but since they had done a good job previously, I trusted that they would again, and Bob had assured me that he would be there to supervise. That night when I got home, I realized that they had not pruned but completely cut down the plum tree by my front gate, a tree I had planted with my daughter when she was very young. That was a shock, but in the light of day the next morning I discovered that they had apparently allowed a large limb from the big tree to come crashing down, because the flagstone walkway was damaged, one of the plum trees had branches torn off and an entire shrub was broken in half. You would think that they would have called to let me know that there had been problems, but no, they did not call. When Bob came out to inspect what had happened, he denied that his crew had made any mistakes and implied that I was making everything up. Incredibly rude. "Poor customer service" is an understatement. read more
