    Apple Fritters from Marie's Donuts
    Joy H.

Marie's Donuts in North Highlands. This donut shop has been around for quite a few years. They are known for their donuts with whipped cream and the apple fritters. All of their donuts are so fresh and addictive. The apple fritters are huge and delicious! The shop is small, quaint and bright inside. There are a few tables inside for those who want to stay a few minutes to enjoy their donut with a cup of coffee. The customer service is always great and the lady taking the orders is always so personable and friendly. If you are ever in the vicinity of this donut shop, stop in and get a few or a dozen fresh and delicious donuts!

One of the best donut places in Sacramento. This store has the original owners family. They make really good donuts here and they taste delicious. Gisele is really nice and helpful. The customer service is amazing and the store is cute. definitely recommend to come and get your donuts anytime of the day. They're really good and they're not greasy at all. Taste delicious. They're so good.

We stopped by Marie's Donuts this morning after hearing glowing reviews. The shop itself looked clean and inviting, and the donuts on display looked fresh. The owner was incredibly kind--she shared a bit about their 60-year family legacy, which I genuinely appreciated. It's always nice to support local businesses with real roots in the community. That said, I'll admit I'm a bit of a donut snob. I usually judge a donut shop by their glazed and maple bars--if those are excellent, the rest usually follow suit. Unfortunately, both were a letdown here. They were dense and flat, lacking that light, airy, and slightly chewy quality I look for. The maple glaze was a little dull and didn't have much flavor to elevate the experience. We also tried the white-frosted cake donut with sprinkles, which was better, but still not quite there. It was missing that subtle crispness on the outer edge that really makes a cake donut sing. Also, only half of it had sprinkles, which left me wondering if they were going for an artsy vibe or just forgot to finish it. I'm glad this place is still going strong after so many decades, and I truly wish them well. But for me, the flavor and texture just didn't land. I probably won't be back--but I'm rooting for them from the sidelines.

This donut shop has been around for a long time and has retained a classic feel. All the classic donuts are here, and some have fun and crazy modifications to them. Rather than a case of donuts in the front, you select the donuts that you see behind the cashier. If you have any questions about them, I found the staff to be very helpful and informative. I was especially curious about some of their old fashioned donut varieties. I'd never seen a yellow covered old fashioned before. It turns out that the yellow old fashioned is lemon flavored! In fact, they also have vanilla as well as the traditional chocolate, maple, and glazed. An outstanding donut from Marie's has to be their non-dairy cream filled donuts. There is an enormous amount of cream in them. These donuts look as good as they taste and are a cream lover's dream. My only slight qualm about my visit to Marie's Donuts was that they didn't seem to have any French crullers when I was there. It makes me wonder if they just don't have that type or if they were sold out that day. Things that make you go hnmmmmmm....

Such great donuts at Marie's. Service was quick and staff was friendly. There were many great options to choose from and they didn't disappoint. Quite a few people stopped by when I was in so it's good to get in early but it looked as if they were cranking out donuts so their customers wouldn't miss out. I would definitely stop by again. Go ahead and give them a try!

A donut shop with history! You sense this donut shop has been part of the community for a long time. The building tells you that you've stepped into an establishment from the past brought here for us to continue to enjoy. Some of the staff are old timers; with lots of stories to share, which I find enjoyable. The donuts are wonderful as well. This shop offers lots of donuts that are no longer at the forefront of other donut establishments like custard filled glazed, or a boston cream with chocolate glaze. I tried them both, and loved the freshness and flavor. I was happy to see the front case filled with candies and other treat for the prices of yesteryear!~ I highly recommend you stop and try some of your favs-- you won't be disappointed!

I came to Marie's donuts on a Sunday around 12, I got these two donuts for $4.10. They were light and delicious. I especially loved the sizing on basic donuts such as the chocolate one pictures. Definitely great portion for kids and adults. I loved how old school and homey it looked inside, yet with a great reputation it doesn't seem to change who they are and represent. Customer service was good there was one worker who worked efficiently and with care. She answered questions that we had and took her time regardless of who was next.

It specifically cites their negligence when it comes to food safety -- including their ham and cheese croissants. This is documented and public record. You can review it yourself here: https://inspections.myhealthdepartment.com/sacramento/inspection/?inspectionID=C2873A6A-27BE-4310-97F3-0336E0658D6F My son became sick with food poisoning after eating a ham and cheese croissant with moldy ham from Rancho Cordova Donuts -- yes, moldy ham. He had to be taken to the doctor because of this. This wasn't an isolated accident -- it was a direct result of their negligent food handling and total disregard for customer safety. After this incident, we went back to them expecting at least an apology. What did they do? They offered to refund $29.35 and didn't even say "I'm sorry." And again -- this is not speculation. Their last health inspection specifically pointed out negligence around food safety, including improper storage and handling of ham and cheese croissants -- exactly the item that made my son sick. This is beyond disappointing. This is dangerous. If they can't keep bread and ham safe to eat -- something you serve every day -- then how can anyone trust them with any food? Parents, friends, and neighbors -- stay far away from this place. Your health is NOT worth their incompetence, and your family shouldn't be a test subject for their lack of standards. They need to fix their kitchen. Fix their food safety. And start caring about their customers -- not just offering refunds after someone gets sick.

With Donut King being open 24/7, they've NEVER let me down when 'called' upon. Which goes to say, Hubs & I are frequent customers of the late night variety. And with us being in our mid-40s, that means after dark but still before 9pm. LOL But hey, I'm sure the consistency we've experienced means we'd likely get the same tasty goodness & friendly service at ANY time of day--at least that's what I'd like to think. Sometimes, we may stop in for a late afternoon treat if in the area shopping or whatnot. So yeah, they consistently good. Some days the case variety may be a little more....sparse, but still enough selection to feel like they don't have something worthwhile. Most times, the case is pretty full, containing the usual classics and a few not so classics. But don't come here looking for that specialty, high-end, bougie-style donut. No no! This is your standard, run-of-the-mill, good ol' fashioned Old Fashioned donut variety, which just so happens to be one of my favorite to get, either in chocolate or maple glaze. Apple fritters are another go-to, while a rainbow sprinkle and even a sugar or crumb donut can be found. Custard filled? Check. Donut holes, absolutely. Maple bar (another go-to of mine) is also a yummy classic served up here. But the one we got on our most recent visit, the one that spurred me actually finally writing up this review, was a BLUEBERRY filled donut. Now, I do love most anything blueberry, so full disclosure. But when hubby tells me even HE found this donut to be SUUUUPER good, that's when I know my tastebuds aren't being biased. Before I wrap this up, let me bring it back to service. The Asians behind the counter, as I've mentioned earlier, is always friendly. Even if/when there occasionally are other patrons besides us, I've witnessed they treat people so nicely, practically as family. It makes me believe they have regulars, but maybe that's just their standard--and if that's the case, it's not a bad business model! So I certainly hope Donut King keeps things going strong and they continue to be abundantly blessed with great customers, to be around for many years to come. Check them out if you haven't, or maybe it's been a while. I'm telling you, these donuts are DEE-liciously approved!!

The gentleman who is always there seems intoxicated and has no business working in customer service. He says strange things and is extremely forgetful - in fact, the same day I stopped coming here, a man with his family had a confrontation with him. The worker's behavior always very off - not a personality thing, but appears to be a sobriety issue. In the aforementioned man's confrontation, the worker forgot multiple items and wouldn't make it right until the man brought it up, showed his receipt, and made the worker calculate the items which were bought - after the worker gave the man what he was owed, the worker failed to acknowledge their mistake and simply looked at the man with a blank stare. I had a similar issue and called the manager, who wasn't even on site. However, I didn't notice I was missing items until I drove home. The manager wouldn't even say "sorry about that" they simply said they would talk to the staff and that I should go back to pick up the items THEY failed to provide. I went back, and the same gentleman with the inconsistent, non-sober appearing behavior said he didn't hear anything from his manager and I had to call the manager AGAIN. If it isn't the poor behavior from the dude working there, the chick in the back with the sour attitude also fails every box of customer service. I'll never return. This was a great place when the original owner was running the show, now it's just bad.

The mochi donuts are definitely on the pricier side, but the taste and quality absolutely justify it. These aren't something I could ever recreate at home, so I don't mind treating myself here when I can. Sometimes regular donuts just can't compare. I do wish they were a bit cheaper -- but I understand why they're priced the way they are. One thing I really like is that they rotate flavors regularly. You might not see the same selection every visit, but there's always enough variety that you're bound to find something you'll enjoy. They also occasionally offer discounts and have a rewards program you can sign up for, which helps bring the price down after you build up points -- definitely worth it if you're a repeat customer. Beyond the donuts, they also serve Korean corn dogs and a fun drink selection. My husband is a big fan of their Baja Blast lemonade because it's perfectly sour, and I've tried several of their other drinks that were also really good, including their milk tea and spring drinks. For the corn dogs, there are lots of topping options, but the Hot Cheeto one is my personal favorite. The shop itself is small and quaint, so there isn't much seating -- just a few spots by the windowpane -- so I usually grab my donuts to go. It works perfectly as a quick treat stop rather than a dine-in place. Customer service here has always been friendly and consistent. The staff is patient, accurate with orders, and helpful when you have questions. I never feel rushed or pressured while ordering. Parking is also easy since it's in the same lot as KP Market, with plenty of spaces -- so again, it's a perfect dessert stop, especially after grocery shopping. 85°C Bakery is also right next door but they tend to be busy which deters me from visiting -- it's more peaceful for me to stop by Mochinut where customers just stop by, pick up their donuts and go instead of mingling around. Honestly, I can't really complain about this place at all -- other than wishing prices were lower -- and it's been a reliable treat spot for years.
