First time @ Marie's Diner this morning - It started off with a 35 minute wait in a small waiting area, but they do have a texting system so you can wait in your car and be texted when your table is ready. Once your seated, the service is courteous, fast & accurate! Our waitress was named "Grandma" and she is the best! As you can see from the pic, the food was plentiful and tasted great! My wife had the Bacon, Eggs, Sausage & Grits w/Waffle and I had the Bacon, Sausage, Scrapple & Ham Omelet w/Pancakes that are as big as a plate! Nice!!!! I can't really tell you if Marie's serves anything else besides breakfast, which I think they do. To tell you the truth, I look forward to eating a good breakfast at this place. The breakfast is definitely worth the drive if you don't live in the LaPlata area. It's one of those places where you feel like you're getting a home cooked meal every time you sit down to eat. Just moved to the area and had heard about this place from a friend. Wow! It was SO good. I got the Country fried chicken and biscuits with gravy, with grits and English muffin! So much food! The chicken was cooked perfectly, the biscuits and gravy was some of the best I've had! The pancakes my kids got were the size of plates! My Husband got an omelet and was raving too! I really enjoyed this place! I can't believe I've never been here before, and I only live about 5 minutes from it. To start, their menu is huge with a variety of breakfast/lunch/dinner items and the prices are very cheap compared to other restaurants! We ordered two egg and bacon sandwiches, a side of home fries, and 3 pancakes with 2 cups of coffee and our bill was under $20. That's unbelievable! The place was packed and it took us nearly an hour to get our food (including a 20 min wait time for a table) All of the food was delicious! The pancakes were extra fluffy as you can see. This place lacks the understanding of customer service. We'd arrived, told the wait to be 70 minutes so, we decided to wait. 82 minutes later, no text summoning us to a table. We go in to inquire and was rudely told they don't know. The hostess offered for us to speak to a manager. The manager was completely unapologetic and simply made excuses as to why we'd not been seated. He offered nothing more than "we do not know how much longer". He showed no concern for our inconvenience or interest in our business. If you've got time to waste, not hungry and wish to be offended or mistreated, this is the restaurant to visit. My party of 5 visited this diner on Dec 13 and had a delicious lunch. The young male waiter did serve us without gloves or mask. Which we realized but didn't comment. We ordered 4 meals to go. However, once home I opened the Catfish dinner to find a long black strand of hair on it. This was a complete taste change. The manager was reluctannt to call back. I had to call twice. A couple could share a meal. I got a short stack breakfast (2 pancakes, 3 strips of bacon, 2 eggs for $6.99). Added a side of home fries. Had no idea thst i would get that much food! Didnt come close to eating it all. They should just give you a to go box off the break! Lol. When I arrived at Marie's, I was told that there was an hour wait time and that 10 people were in front of me and my guest. (As you can see in the picture.) I waited in my car until 11:15am before going back in, to find out what position I was in due to the hour already passing. I was now told that after waiting an hour, there are now 14 guest in front of us. I asked how is it possible that after waiting an hour for 10 people to get service, I am now in position 14 with a two hour wait. The only response given was I don't know. I traveled from Oxon Hill MD to White Plains MD, just to be lied to and sit in my car for an hour and twenty minutes. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND OR PATRONIZE THIS PLACE AGAIN! I'd read several reviews of this place before pulling up. This place gives a typical mom & pop type feel but be prepared to wait a while! We waited a little over an hour on a very long wait list for Brunch on Sunday. Wait staff was very friendly while helping us make a selection from the vast menu. I ordered the ribeye and eggs, cooked medium, and would have appreciated them cooking it for a little less time. Other than that the food was decent and came out quickly which is what we needed on this particular morning. Food was decently priced so no Real complaints here. Sunday morning I got up & made my way down to Marie's & got me a pork chop breakfast & I just couldn't leave without trying at least one pancake. In town visiting daughter. The hotel I am staying at does not provide a quality breakfast, which Marie's does in spades. Staff is friendly and attentive, prices are more than reasonable. The facility is clean and tables are washed after every diner leaves. Breakfasts are served hot and the portions on the Omlet and 2 eggs with ham steak are beyond filling. I have not stopped at dinner time but the breakfast time is great. read more

I love their food. The prices are great, and most of their staff are attentive. That is why they score a 3 of 5 stars. However, I went in for to pick up a to go order last week. None of the staff were wearing masks. I have noticed a growing number of staff not wearing masks in the last few months. I've seen workers from the kitchen not wearing masks for a long time. With the rapid spread of Covid this holiday season, I do not feel safe eating in or ordering out from Marie's Diner. I'm uncertain I can return as a customer even after this health issue passes. The 411: this locally owned diner offers well executed classic American breakfast food at a more than competitive price. With lunch specials and a lunch menu, this place also offers solid diner food, making it a local favorite! I came here for breakfast with my girlfriend. The place looks rather small, but has ample seating. You might wait a few minutes before getting a table, but their turnover is surprisingly fast. There were 3 groups before us, but we only waited 5 mins. I ordered my breakfast go-to: veggie omelette with homefries, white toast, a side of bacon and obligatory side of scrapple. Scrapple was well executed: crispy edges and soft, yet thick and nice and tender on the inside. Bacon was yummy. 3 nice slices, not thick, but cooked perfectly. My veggie omelette was wonderful! Came with mushrooms (tasted fresh, not canned) finely diced bell peppers and tomatoes, onion and LOTS of ooey gooey provolone cheese. Can't stress how much cheese they put in my omelette! You could tell the eggs were whisked with milk to make it extra fluffy and moist...classic southern style egg. The homefries were pretty good. Extremely generous portions of large, kumquat sized potato with finely diced onions. I personally prefer a crispier and smaller chunk potato hash, but these weren't bad. My girlfriend's two egg breakfast appeared to be cooked perfectly: over easy with a nice runny yolk. Service was fantastic. My coffee was topped off numerous times and our server was very friendly. My large breakfast with two sides of meat, as well as my girlfriend's meal with two cups of coffee came to $22. That is such a steal!!! Had to tip $10 just to feel less guilty about the low price. Bottom line: this place is inviting and has good food being served to the locals. I would highly recommend this place over IHOP and pancakes plus, both of which I've had negative experiences at. Highly recommend! I was in the La Plata area a few weeks ago and was very satisfied with Marie's Diner. Between the five of us, we ordered chocolate chip pancakes, eggs, bacon, cheesesteaks, hash browns, an omelette and a side of Mac & Cheese. Here are some of my thoughts: 1) There is a wait time, because that's only because Marie's seems to be immensely popular. We were told that our wait time would be around 40 minutes but we were actually seated in less than 20, which was a pleasant surprise. 2) Pancakes are HUGE and truly the star of the menu. They were delicious and by far the best thing we ordered. I definitely think that one pancake is enough for any customer, even if you are really hungry. 3) The food was very affordable and generally very good. Mac & Cheese wasn't the best, but I don't believe it's a popular menu item. Also, there was marinara sauce in the cheesesteak. It wasn't necessarily bad, just unusual. I feel as though it should be made optional by the waiter. 3) The waitresses are VERY courteous and the service is amazing. We were the last ones eating as they were beginning to close and they very kindly told us to take our time and not feel rushed. They were incredibly respectful and patient, which made our dining experience all the better. In a nutshell, Marie's has great food, incredible prices and amazing service.
