Great food, crab cakes need improvement, but salads are good. The staff could be friendlier.

Although this diner can be missed because of the corner location, they have great food and prices. I can't wait to go back.

Best omelet I've had in a long time! What a great local place to grab a cozy breakfast. Our server was so nice and polite. I had Abell's special omelet and my husband had a "Quickie." I always have the Trimmer with bacon. It's French Toast and I get the home fries. French toast is always exactly like I like it. It's old school St. Mary's County and cash only. Enjoy! read more

Would have loved to try this place but this looked like a breeding ground for Covid so I walked in and walked right back out. The bar was completely full of people and every single table in this tiny place was full, no 6 feet separations or closed tables or anything. We've lived in St Mary's County for 10+ years now and I'm so sad we only recently tried Abell's Diner. We've driven past it at least a hundred times and had never stopped...it took my son sending me a snap of his breakfast one morning for us to finally give them a try...then we were hooked! This is our go to spot for breakfast. It's delicious down home country cooking. Kinda reminds me of the restaurant in the movie My Cousin Vinny lol Everything is made fresh to order and the prices can't be beat! Our typical bill for the 4 of us for food, drinks, and tip is $35-4. (I'm hoping to be able to stop in for lunch one afternoon soon because I've heard it is equally as excellent as breakfast.) It's definitely a locals spot so it can be hard to get a table...Sunday morning after 9 a.m. or so you might as well forget about it LOL They also do breakfast sandwiches to go (I've ordered those several times now) and unlike a lot of the other local places (Chaptico Market I'm talking to you!) they are made fresh to order not sitting under a hot lamp. If your looking for a good breakfast or a good lunch spot these place takes care of both. Very reasonable prices. Nothing super special or different but what they have is really good. I love there burgers for lunch. I also would recommend there onion rings to go with it as well as there cheesy fries. Breakfast there are many good options the logger breakfast is really good. I always order a side of scrapple or if you just want a good breakfast sandwich they have them as well and they are cheap. Don't over look this place it may look old and be a small little place but it's really good and I personally find myself coming back there often. Only downside is I wish they where open for dinner. read more

Have lived in St. Mary's for 13 years & am just bow trying this place. Such a nice little place. The staff was very welcoming, the coffee was fresh & hot - plus, they serve it in a BIG MUG! We had The Bushwacker & Pop Pop's chipped beef. Both were absolutely delicious and reminiscent of the type of food my grandma once made. Prices were very reasonable. For 2 people - 2 entrees & Coffee was $18. Can't beat it. read more

Fantastic greasy little spoon. This place is not a chain. If you want bland chain restaurant food then go to Denny's. If you want good greasy spoon food, then this is your spot. The sweet tea is good, and the waiting staff are straight out of St. Mary's county, and they are good people. If you have the bourgeois complex then you will not like this place; if you just like good food then you have found your spot. It's a fantastic restaurant. For the club sandwich'ers out there. To be fair we did come at noon and it was busy. BUT service was not too good, coffee was really bad and cold. Menu is really skimpy. I guess breakfast is only until sometime before noon. Really loud and close and smaller than I thought. Needless to say we won't be back. read more

Honesty is the best policy, right? Well, Honey and I have passed this place so many times and finally ventured inside today for lunch. From the outside, it looks like a old little hole in the wall, and we do love that type of place. There were many cars outside so we figured that they must move food quickly, and decided we would give it a try. The place had several locals inside at tables and the "brick bar" area, eating lunch. It is a tiny little place. I must say it was pretty dirty...more than pretty dirty - downright dirty! We probably should have run for the hills when we first entered, but we opted to stay. I think they must sweep the floors every now and then, but not behind tables... and washing the floors must be outside of everyone's job description. We sat at a table and I looked at the floor and baseboard under the table and could not believe how filthy it was. The street and parking lot are cleaner than under the table in this restaurant! YIKES! I was getting scared, feeling like I committed to this place since I sat down, but I truly wanted to leave. Honey was not offended by the dirt...he must have been mighty hungry. Their menu is a super limited menu (and the menu was also very dirty and tattered, btw) and nothing really appealed to me since I was not feeling so hungry after eyeing the lack of cleanliness. But, after I struggled to make a decision, I just asked the waitress what most people eat and she said "burgers". We both ordered burgers with fries. Service was quick and food was delivered. We both ate our burgers and fries... The burger tasted OK I guess, but dry, and the bun fell apart on me rather quickly, leaving me with burger, lettuce and tomato in my hands... the fries were crinkle cut and tasted good (oil tasted fresh, thank God) which was a relief... I don't know about Honey, but I will not go back, just based on the dirty nature of the place. The floors and baseboards looks as if they have not been washed in years!!! Prices were OK... food was nothing more than OK, and that is being generous...they don't take credit cards...Just a note: I would have much rather gone to Chaptico Market and gotten me some good fried chicken, a chicken salad sandwich or some stuffed ham salad. read more

Some friends and I stopped in here because honestly there isn't much in this area to choose from. It was filthy in here. We sat down and a dozen or more flies scattered everywhere. A guy in the booth behind us was eating something and a fly was all around his food. We walked out before they could even give us a menu. I don't believe a health inspector has ever visited this establishment. Maybe locals are ok with that type of restaurant but it was worth backtracking 6 miles for something decent. read more

As a formal health inspector, this place is beyond dirty and no health codes seem to be in place. My husband did eat a burger and said it was okay, but I refused to eat anything. Would not visit again, and would encourage an inspector to drop by. read more

Abell's!! Where to begin, this is definitely my favorite place in St. Mary's, it's a weekly breakfast. The staff are all so sweet and it truly is everything your looking for in a Sunday morning breakfast. The prices are so affordable the staff makes you feel at home and the food is the bomb, my favorites are the quickie or the bushwacker when I'm hungry.
