I arranged a lunch today for my senior women's group. Eight of us traveled from four different counties to gather in Leonardtown. Several people had recommended The Front Porch, and it was a great choice. They gave us a small private dining room upstairs. Ayanna was our server, and she was really sweet. The food and drinks were excellent. The restaurant was very busy, with a bridal shower and other groups there as well. Our food came out fairly promptly and everyone was happy with their choices. The meatloaf was an enormous potion, and the quiche was too. I enjoyed the salmon tacos and a berry sangria. It was an excellent special occasion lunch in a charming setting. read more

The place was beautiful! And it was a perfect setting for a restaurant. I enjoyed the view I had from where I sat. But the problem was the food. I was given a salmon Alfredo pasta, there was no seasoning on the pasta and the salmon had no seasoning either, it was just seared. My partner got a meatloaf and it was hard as a rock for him. The only thing good we got was the Parmesan crusted fries and the roasted red pepper soup. Sadly though everything was just cold and it felt like it was leftovers from yesterday's meal. We visited on a Monday for lunch. There was plenty of parking and we were able to walk in and be seated right away. When we first arrived we were the only ones in that section, and it was nice, but as more people came throughout the meal it got very loud inside. We ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer for the table to share. This was the first time I've ever had them served this way with the rice and spinach, but it was a pretty good combination. I had the scallop risotto, it was a bit pricey for what you get, but not bad. The mixed drinks were just ok. While we were there they were repairing the wheelchair ramp, so a brand new one should be installed now. read more

I recall when this was a very good establishment with upper level staff appearance, attention to detail and quality food. We visited after about 6 months away and we not impressed by the appearance of the wait staff nor the hostess, who was wearing very short gym shorts at the front greeting station. She appeared very unflattering and sloppy. She directed us to our table and returned a few minutes later with silverware wrapped in a cloth napkin and simply dropped them on the table without a word and left. Very unprofessional. We had five guests and three of the five were unsatisfied with their meals for a variety of reasons. One was delivered French fries when she asked for mashed potatoes, One was provided an overcooked hamburger and my meatloaf was completely covered with mash potatoes. Speaking of the potatoes, it was clear that the wrong potatoes were used as they tasted horrible. No one ate them. Finally...servers in the bar were unprepared at 530pm, putting away silverware, folding napkins all on the bar counter where we wanted to sit and have a drink while we waited for our guests. Must do better to represent Leonardtown in the best light or this will be another restaurant gone, like so many others. read more

This place was so cute and quaint. I met a friend for brunch here on a Sunday at 10:30am. I loved the setup. From the outdoor seating to the inside. I loved loved the Crabs Benedict and they were able to do it with scrambled eggs and not poached so that made my day! Also, I thought the prices were reasonable. I arrived just before 1pm on Sunday. The menu was tiny with one salad and 4 other lunch type choices. I can only assume on other days the menu is larger. I got theMediterranean veggie wrap with falafel, lettuce onion, tomato and house made sauce-comes with fries. The wrap was a small pita with 2 smaller than golf ball size falafel, two half slices of tomato a sprinkle of lettuce and a few rounds of onion and small side of fries which were barely warm on arrival. I had the most amazing French toast here. It tasted like a cinnamon bun without being overly sweet. I like this restaurant because I think that they're ingredients are fresh. And the food is generally very good. The service can be a little slow when it's upstairs. I don't blame them because the poor servers have to go up and down the stairs with Food. But overall, I like this place very much. It's a nice environment in a historic home. I especially like it for lunch and breakfast. read more

I recently ate there and something has changed. I had a Cajun pasta dish and it wasn't as good as it had been in the past. The noodles in it seemed either stale or overcooked. Last night was my second time going to the Front Porch. They have a rather large menu and it's definitely a good spot for those that want a protein forward menu with sides. Like every other place in Leonardtown they have limited vegetarian options that never change. I think last night was a tough service day for them and it showed. We sat next to other patrons on the patio that were repeatedly asking for their cocktails. They brought me the wrong cocktail at first and swapped it out for the correct one eventually - the one I was handed belonged to the table next to me. When our food came out (I got a soup and salad and my partner got chicken and waffles) it looked pretty good! My soup was delicious and my partner liked their entree. I was missing my dressing for my salad and it took over 20 minutes for them to bring it to me so I ended up only eating a cup of soup for dinner. They didn't apologize for forgetting my dressing just made a bunch of excuses as to how busy they are - which is an inappropriate way to handle a service miss. We may come back. There are limited options here in Leonardtown and they do have decent food, but the service was disappointing this visit and I understand that does happen at times. read more

Gorgeous patio and porch for brunch. Weather was wonderful Sunday, during labor day weekend. My friends and I really enjoyed our time. Somehow despite living in this town my whole life, I'd never had the privilege to dine here. I'm so glad I finally made the time, and can't wait to do so again! We (two people) decided to order much and split all, trying: Brussels sprouts, daily quiche, a Caesar salad, side risotto, side fries, and the crème brûlée to finish. The Brussels sprouts are a DO NOT miss, I am still thinking about them. So much wonderful and flavorful goat cheese, and a fantastic sharing portion. The quiche (that day spinach and Parmesan) was another standout, with perfect crunchy crust and robust flavor. The risotto was perhaps a bit Al dente for some taste, but I personally struggle with a soggy texture and LOVED the side. The salad and fries were good too, iterations of a classic. Creme brûlée ended the meal perfectly, creamy and sugary. The inside of the place too is incredible. The historic Sterling House is upheld. And there are even some census records on the walls. For any ~spooky~ fans out there, I always heard growing up that it was haunted!! For reassurance to the reader, I felt no ghosts ;). But I did feel the history, and loved getting to experience historic SOMD and some great food. It's a very charming place for bridal showers, brunches, receptions, etc. It's good for Instagram, and the inside seating is pretty comfortable. The service was fast and friendly. We really liked our servers - no notes. The food.. I'm not a fan of the normal menu. Aside from the chicken and waffles, everything else just seems so average. If you want a nice restaurant in St. Mary's, the Porch is your real only answer. There are some other places that are more expensive, but definitely do not deliver on the service and food quality. Think southern-inspired classic American cuisine, paired with a rotating craft cocktail menu, that hits every little niche point you could think of when trying to describe one. We've enjoyed lunch at The Front Porch over the last couple of years and the portions have always been way more than generous. Not today! These are kid size portions they handed my husband in a plastic bag. He trusted them to package the same portions others had enjoyed but instead the wait staff screwed us over. ‼‼MAGGOT IN FOOD ‼‼I am absolutely appalled by what happened during our visit. There was a MAGGOT in our crab dip. Not a questionable piece of something--an actual maggot, alive and moving. When I calmly called the waitress over and showed her, she didn't apologize, didn't show concern--she just asked if I wanted anything else. I placed the maggot on a piece of the crab dip bread so she could bring it to the kitchen or a manager. Instead, she told me "it's okay" and pushed it back into the dip. I was in shock. No manager came by. No apology. Nothing was comped. We just left. This is beyond disgusting and the complete lack of accountability or basic hospitality is unacceptable. I wouldn't come back here if you paid me. Eat here at your own risk. We used to love this restaurant, very disappointing. read more

After the change in ownership we have given The Front Porch 3 opportunities to demonstrate their standards, the last being New Year's Eve. To say it was a disappointment is overstating it. Sadly they have gone from being one of our favorite places to go, they are now at the top of our never again. New Year's Eve should have been their opportunity to excel but instead came out as a disaster. The meal was horrible, with attempts to hide it behind complimentary shots. The filet was so tough and undercooked as to be a disgrace. The "potato pancake" was so compressed and burned as to easily be confused with a hockey puck. The asparagus was not tender, but even a knife had a hard time cutting it. Usually the place was buzzing with customers, but now on New Year's Eve the best they had were couples at tables that could hold much larger groups. The final insult was the exorbitant cost of this whole meal. Obviously we didn't penalize the server who did the best she could by being very attenuative, but she unfortunately was at the mercy of a kitchen that has totally lost its edge, skill, and competitiveness. As mentioned earlier, this was their 3rd chance to prove that our previous visits were just flukes, but sadly, proved that they no longer warrant our business after many years of being customers. read more

We came by to celebrate our daughters birthday early while we were visiting her. We were seated right away upstairs and our waitress Jazlyn was quick with our drink order. We also ordered the Brussel Sprouts with Bacon ($10.99) and Filet Tip Dip ($15.99). We enjoyed. visiting until our appetizers arrived. We were taken aback when the Filet Tip Dip arrived it was more like tips and gravy with bread than a dip. It tasted pretty good just not what we expected. They really liked the Brussel sprouts with bacon and goat cheese. Our main dishes were Shrimp and Grits ($23.99), Maple Salmon Salad ($16.99) and Pan Seared Filet ($28.99) Our meals were all good. I really enjoyed the salad and the shrimp and grits were good not great, the filet was good not great. Over all our meal was good and we enjoyed the atmosphere and time to visit without feeling rushed. Our waitress Jazlyn was attentive and kept drinks full and table cleared. I've always really liked this place for some very authentic country cooking and laid back ambiance so I was more than slightly amused when another couple waiting to be seated asked if there was someplace "better" in town where he could wear a suit and showcase his gravity ravaged arm candy. Judging from the seams bursting on his too tight khakis and worked over Sperry topsiders, I'd say Captain Obsequious was trolling in the wrong zip code if he expected to find a Michelin kitchen, a Master Sommelier and paparazzi awaiting his arrival. He seemed crestfallen when I told him no, and that I only frequented establishments that were second rate. Silly question, silly answer Mr. Khaki. Stopped in for lunch after playing golf at Breton Bay, we sat out in the porch. One thing I thought was a terrific idea is that they take your name a phone number just as taking a reservation and if someone happens to get sick they will call you to let you know. Very safe. I had the burger with bacon and Swiss cheese it was very good as were the French fries. I had an Old Fashion was its bullet rye and it was also very good.
