It appeared like that had a pretty big menu for such a small place, but they offer NO vegetables, unless you call fries and chips veggies. That was my first impression. Then we ordered 2 grilled cheese and ham sandwiches and a cheese burger. It took at least 40 minutes to deliver our food. We were about to leave, but waited a few more minutes since we would start again with ordering at another restaurant. After the 40 minute wait, a regular ham and cheese came out for my husband, a cheeseburger came for our son, and for me a grilled ham and cheese with tomato came out with the bread burned so much, I couldn't scrape off all the char. I finally took it back and they brought the same sandwich back to me saying they wouldn't charge for it (like go ahead and eat the carcinogenic toast anyway). They said they had no more ham I said bring me a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. I finally got the sandwich, but they forgot the tomato. I was just so happy it was not burned. I do not recommend. Ambiance is a cheap diner, but the food is not cheap. For 3 adults we paid $44.00. The grilled cheese sandwiches were cheap, but the cheese burger with fries was pretty expensive. Ordered a combo with silver dollar pancakes but asked if we could sub-out the pancakes with toast. Waitress says well right now we are out of pancakes and "Chef" does not like people swapping out... But you're out of pancakes... what would someone do if they wanted to order that and you are out of pancakes... just get the combo without pancakes? Or just 86 the combo off the menu? Okay well how about we take 3$ off the price of the combo since you are out of pancakes and we'll just order a side of toast for 1.50 so you lose almost two dollars on that meal????! So then I order an omelette which comes with one choice of meat and three additional toppings and asked if we could put the sausage on the side instead of in the omelette to which again she replied 'chef' does not like changes to the meals. So I said, that's fine I'll just pick it out. When it comes out, all it is, is two sausage patties whole (see pic) laid in the omelet and folded over... well, I guess it just made it easier to pick out. I'm still confused... Other than that, the kids working we're sweet. Just not really nonsensical. The meal was decent and I cannot say that I would not go back. I agree with the sane people posting here; don't waste your time and money on this old fool's errand. Scott doesn't have any help because he can't get along with anyone. Spend five minutes with him and you'll see why. So he's running the place by himself and pleasing no one. He doesn't clean the place and he can't afford to buy supplies so he runs out of things, or just arbitrarily refuses to make them. Arbitrariness is pretty much what explains him. Why he hasn't been closed down due to the unsanitary conditions says a lot about the standards of the county's health department. The food isn't great at the best of times; it's occasionally adequate. The eggs were ok, but the country ham was ridiculously salty; Scott, don't you even know basic things about cooking like how to prepare country ham? One of those 'hole in the wall' places that serves tasty food! This spot was recommended by an employee at the hotel we stayed at. So glad we tried it out. The chipped beef on toast was outstanding - - they actually put some of it between the two slices and stack the toast up. The potatoes were very tasty. My husband enjoyed his eggs, scrapple and potatoes. The prices were very reasonable. From what I understand, this place might only have two or three employees so if you hit them up at a busy time, please be patient. read more

Well it's been a LONG time since I've been here to eat so I figured I'd give it a try, boy was I WRONG! First I walked in with my mask on there were people eating I walked up close to the counter and stood there for a moment looked at the server and asked where would you like me to sit she say sit where you want I'll be there shortly. I sat and waited while she had her conversation with another lady at the counter and another person at the counter. Two more people came in and they did the same thing I did stood waiting and she told them to sit where they wanted didn't even look at them. She finally came over with a menu and silverware and then started to walk away I asked for a cup of coffee just a minute she says. Finally she brings my coffee so I figure better get my order in she didn't ask what I wanted I just told her. I said I'll have the chip beef on toast she wrote it down I asked does that come with potatoes she said yes. Also she wasn't wearing a mask. While waiting the two guys cooking in the kitchen I noticed they were NOT wearing a mask didn't even have one hang around there neck. Then one guy started yelling at the other because he wasn't doing things like the other guy wanted. (See photos for no mask) My food came out and it looked really good the food here use to be excellent, well I was very disappointed with the food. The potatoes tasted like old grease the very few I had, I went to cut my toast and it was like mush I put a piece in my mouth and it was like eating a ball of dough with salt all over it. Don't know what they did to the toast but it wasn't toast they must have toasted the bread yesterday. I went up to the counter to pay my bill the waitress didn't ask is everything ok how is you breakfast nothing. I asked for my check she said that will be $15.34 WHAT for chip beef and a coffee? Chip beef is $11 you can bet I won't be back unless new owners take over and the waitress is gone. Just a quick review since it seems like a number of other customers had the same issue. In town for work and decided on our day off to try The Frying Pan. The waitresses could not have been friendlier. They kept the coffee coming. It was however very disappointing how long it took for 4 country breakfasts. We waited well over an hour for food that was barely warm. Eggs not completely cooked, and the serving of potatoes (which equated to probably 1Tablespoon) was not exactly "a serving." Still took care of the waitress, speed and quality of food is not their fault. Sorry, but we won't be visiting again, this year or any other. read more

Server was nice, but after 40 minutes, the food came out cold and tasteless( chicken fried steak is out of a box pre breaded). It was not busy, half the tables were closed. No To go boxes. From sitting down we waited exactly 1 hour and 25 minutes for our food. It was not busy, but multiple tables did get up and leave instead of wait. When we got the food most of it was decent, but the sausage and omelete were undercooked. There seemed to be a lot of general restaurant dysfunction as well, the cook was rude to the waitresses and the waitresses would bad mouth the cook behind his back. When one of the waitresses pointed out how long we had been waiting the cook said "well its not a popeyes". I think this comment shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how restaurants work. Which is sad because the cook appears to be the owner. Popeyes is fast food, you get it in 5 minutes. Sit down restaurants it should be around 30 minutes or less depending on how functional they are. 1 hours and 25 minutes is totally unacceptable for every scenario. This used to be a great place and we decided to try it after a long time away. There was one guy running the whole place and he was not pleasant. We waited for 15 minutes without being even acknowledged. One guy came and left because he wasn't even looked at. Got lectured to about the state of things and other uncomfortable topics, how he has a routine, and he complained about other customers. Food was not good. Potatoes tasted of stale oil. Almost all tables closed, he said it was because if he didn't people would just sit anywhere they wanted. Really!!!???. We were forced to sit at the counter since most tables had closed signs on them. Definitely go somewhere else. You trust your fellow Yelpers and decide to stop in at The Frying Pan for a New Year's Day breakfast. I have to admit when I first arrived, I was a little taken back by the rustic curb appeal but knew that the food must surely offset the modest nature of the eatery based on the 4-star rating. Never judge a book .... right? Inside is just simple with southern comfort. The walls are covered with vintage (circa 1950-1960s) water color paintings in what looks like its original framing. Low ceilings, 1970s natural wood walls & '70s vinyl tile flooring. It all adds to the appeal.. The menu is a no frills basic one-pager breakfast menu. A short stack of 2 with home fries is $3.99 & the service g was generous. The pancakes were airy and melted in my mouth.. Turkey sausage tasted homemade with a hint of sage & other seasonings I can't readily recall. Although the oj was not freshly squeezed, it tasted like the oranges just came from a tree in sunny Florida. The service was adequate but their was one waitress serving 10+ tables so you can't blame her for looking a bit frazzled. She was however pleasant, responsive and attentive. It was impressive that the owner came over to our table to see how our meal was and the experience. I was impressed because this usually happens in a 4 or 5 star restaurant not a small town restaurant/diner. What a nice touch.... We would have given a zero but Yelp won't allow you to do that. First, girl who answered didn't have that warm good morning voice. We ordered Breakfast combo with scramble eggs. Bacon, white toast, blueberry pancakes and side of bacon and scrapple, Breakfast combo scrambled eggs with scrapple, wheat toast and regular pancakes with coffee and side of bacon. We arrived and 3 people in restaurant no one wearing a mask. Got food home less than 2 minute drive and good was cold. Found a hair in one of the orders. That definitely ends a positive dining experience. Scrapple was terrible. No flavor at all. I would give this 0 stars if I could. Only good thing were the waitresses as they were friendly and tried to be communicative. We went here for breakfast. 3 of us and it took an hour and 20mins to receive our food. Mind you it wasn't busy at all. Before us there were three tables but they all had their drinks and one already had their food. And yet it still took so long to get our pretty basic breakfasts. We almost walked out many times (another table actually did leave and who had arrived after us because they said they were starving) but we chose to stay because we didn't want our waitress to get in trouble with the owner/cook as some of the reviews have mentioned. And from what we heard while we were waiting, he just seems like a real asshole and doesn't appreciate the people working for him. I get that it's only him cooking and they tried to maybe manage the amount of people by closing a bunch of tables down but the cook/owner seems to have other issues (like being concerned about presentation?) that just makes it a long wait and when the waitresses had told him about how long their customers have been waiting he said "if they wanted their food in 30mins then they should have just gone to Popeyes" Their food was okay. Very average but small portions as well. I had 6 home fries with my breakfast and the vegetables in my omlet was completely raw which made a weird kind of eating experience. The water also had a very weird taste. My friend said it tasted very Metallic to them but for me it just had a kind of burning sensation that irritated my throat. The execution on the made to order omelet was a little different as the onions and peppers in the omelet were raw, not cooked....just didn't expect it that way. What took away from our visit was listening to the cook loudly berate and cuss out the server for the fact that customers were asking for modifications to the menu items. (I asked for tomato on my breakfast sandwich so he was probably mad at me too ). Definitely no call for that behavior but hey, it's not my restaurant. Tipped our waiter extra in cash so hopefully he didn't have to split it with the cook. This is a no frills but 5 star place. Honest cooking. Straight to the point. You get what you come in for. I had the prime rib. Queen size that is. Which was ginormous!! I'd hate to see what the King looks like. Or do I? Hmmm. The owner had a little chit chat with me about the quality of the meat and the person in charge for that dancing in my belly. That was a nice touch. I love meeting the person behind the establishments. The beau ordered the country fried steak. I was nice enough to give him a bite of my prime rib. It's too good to share. Would give 0 stars if possible. Restaurant is a mess with half the tables "closed." Today we waited 45 minutes before leaving and we only got drinks at the end. Food came out as we were leaving. Owner/cook was told to cancel our order so he came out to yell at us. Still offered to pay for the food and take it with us. There were no lids for the cups and were told that takeout containers were $1 each. The owner yelled at us (customers who waited 45 minutes and barely got drinks) about his limited resources and needing to pay still ... we've always had breakfast here every few weeks and will now never go back. This was nice little spot off the side of a backroad in southern Maryland for some breakfast. Went in around 10am and it was not crowded at all. You seat yourself which is always tricky given the pandemic/making sure you don't get too close to other patrons. They only had one cool and one bartender/server but that didn't slow down their service one bit. The server was really nice and hospitable when I sat behind the bar. The food was reasonably priced and served in a timely manner. I did notice that neither the server or cook wore masks and/or gloves which is surprising given the fact that the world is going through a pandemic which is the only reason I gave it a 4 star review instead of 5 star review. The food was pretty good and tasted like a homemade breakfast which is always a plus. They even offered me a lemonade in a to-go cup which was a nice touch. All in all, a decent breakfast experience with friendly staff and fair prices! read more

I've never written a review before. But I am so appalled at the treatment we received that I am compelled to write one today. We had a party of 6 and it was a busy Saturday morning so we had to wait for a table which was not unexpected. We were seated at a very cramped table and as soon as we sat down another (larger) table right next to us opened up. We asked our waiter if we could move (we didn't even have silverware yet so we hadn't messed up the table). He managed to stammer out a yes so we moved over. Then we figured out why he stammered. Apparently, he knew the owner was going to have a problem. This man (Scott, I'm assuming he's the owner) was so rude to us for changing tables that we got up and walked out. He is absolutely the rudest business owner/restaurant staff personnel I have ever encountered. I was willing to overlook the shabby, run down decor to try the breakfast.
