Chef Selby and his Assistant Pamela weren't worth the contract that I signed for my wife's 70th Elegant White Birthday Party I paid $5K to cater, setup, serve the meal and dessert from a dining room table for 90 people. With White linen or cotton cloth table clothes, white plates with gold trim and white and gold trim napkins that I purchased prior to show them. I asked Pamela to wear their white Caterer jackets because that's one of the reason's I hired Selby's based on how they were dressed for a polital Community event. 2. I asked Pamela to visit the venture of the party a month prior to the event. Why did Pamela call me the day before the party telling me she didn't have a tablecloth that fit the table. She would bunch her 8 feet tablecloth on the top of the table Or pay their Decorator D $90 for 2 tableclothes. NO absolutely not after I paid you $5,K. Selbys placed the tablecloths on the table. They entire crew wore faded black TShirts and faded jeans with sneakers on. My husband and children told me behind the scenes was a total mess! Pamela dropped the salad on the floor in the building, called help to replace the Greek Feta salad that I ordered with Weis grocery bag greens, tomatoes and peppers. Nasty not fresh. We don't shop from the store. . Paid for 2 full trays of peach cobbler that was a few peaches and lot of dough in water from the can. My son made one full pan of each Shrimp Alfredo and chicken Alfredo. My daughter had to argue with Pamela to sit the pans on the table and serve with the other food. Pamela debated with our daughter and we ask the guest" if they were served both dishes. Family and said, No". They took/stole the Shrimp into their suv. Walked right in front of the Front desk Staff. The ambiance was beautiful! I love how they highlight major black Athletes current and new ones. They also highlight local sports teams. The restaurant is very clean . They cook everything to order. The lemon pepper wings were just okay. I asked for them breaded but they were not super breaded. They were not dry however so I give them a B- . I had the Mac and cheese and yams and catfish . They handled everything professionally from beginning to end and made sure everything was completely cleaned up before they left. They truly showed us what a professional team should look like. Let me start by saying--the correct address is 11672 Billingsley Road. The one listed on Google will take you to the office, so just know before you go! I found Selby's Grab and Go on TikTok and decided to check it out. I'm so glad I did. We walked in not realizing we were being greeted by the owner himself, along with the kind staff. Everyone made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped in. We sat down to order and decided to sample a little bit of everything. Let's talk about the catfish platter: it came with two huge pieces of fried catfish that were perfectly seasoned and fried fresh. For my sides, I went with the mac and cheese and collard greens...the flavor was on point. Southern comfort just how it should be. We also ordered eight wings and fries to eat while we were there. Crispy, flavorful, not breaded, just how I like it. To-go, we ordered a salmon ceesar salad and a catfish basket with fries for family at home--and even after a 30-35 minute ride, they were raving about how good it all tasted. That says everything. Now here's something I haven't seen mentioned anywhere online: they have a private event space! While I was taking photos, the owner told me to peek in the back--and y'all, there's a full entertainment room that seats 40-45 people. The sound system is incredible and the main dining space includes four large TVs, perfect for football season, March Madness, or private parties. The inside of the restaurant itself is spacious, clean, and comfortable...so don't let the name fool you. You can absolutely grab and go, or sit down and enjoy your food. Bathrooms are handicap accessible, and the kitchen? Clean as a whistle. Selby's deserves more exposure--because this spot is the definition of a hidden gem. Great food. Great people. Black-owned. I very rarely write reviews but in this case I had to make an exception. I thought I ordered a gift card for $100 for Selbys (which is in San Francisco) and was directed to Selbys grab and go, not realizing I had made a mistake. I called them right away to let them know I had made a mistake and requested a refund. I'm in Ohio and the person I was giving the gift card to is in California! There is no way that I would be able to use the card. They said they would not refund my money but would have the owner call me to discuss. I never received a call. Stay away from this restaurant if this is the kind of low business practices they have. This says a lot about this business doesn't it?? I am disputing the charge. I went here cuz I heard they had good salmon steak and cheese. Order 2 for me and my husband, I ordered no onion on mine. And I ordered chicken wings and french fries for my kids with no sauce. When I got home, I realized that they had put onion on my sub and not just a little bit but huge cuts of onion. I also realized they didn't give me the macaroni and cheese that I ordered but instead me sweet potatoes. My kids wings were completely naked. I assumed that they were going to be fried wings w/breading , but they looked so bland. My kids wouldn't eat it. Which could be my fault for not asking. It was my first time visiting after seeing a few people recommend on social media. I ordered the whiting dinner with mac&cheese and yams. I also ordered a side of green beans. The whiting wasn't seasoned but I ate it. The yams weren't sweet and the mac&cheese was only cheese and hardly any noodles. Also the combination of cheeses used wasnt good. I tasted sliced American cheese more than anything. The string beans had too much butter in them and wasn't seasoned. I discarded the sides and just ate the fish. The menu items are too pricey for me to come back and try again just to discard it but the people in the restaurant are nice and welcoming. read more

We booked this restaurant over a month in advance to host our father's 70th birthday celebration for more than 50 guests. The date was confirmed, and all money was paid in full. We trusted that everything was set. On Sunday, November 2nd, less than a week before the event scheduled for November 8th, the owner informed us that we could no longer use the venue because the space had been subleased. He also stated, in his own words, that he was aware of this sublease when he took our payment but hoped he could "work something out." This was never communicated to us beforehand. This last-minute cancellation caused significant emotional and financial strain on our family, especially during a time when many of our relatives are impacted by the government shutdown. We asked if there was anything he could do to help by preparing the fried chicken or even a small appetizer and he refused. He had already booked another event that day and showed no effort, empathy, or accountability. Throughout the planning process, communication from the staff was inconsistent and often unresponsive. We chose to overlook it and extend grace. But after seeing how the situation was handled in its entirety, we were left disappointed and honestly heartbroken. He would only speak with my brother and refused to communicate with my sister and I, which made the experience even more unprofessional. When people spend their hard-earned money, they expect to do business with someone who operates with integrity and good character. Unfortunately, this experience was the opposite. To say we were shocked by the lack of customer service and basic professionalism would be an understatement. I am writing this not to tear down a business, but to tell the truth and to protect other families. No one planning a milestone celebration, especially a 70th birthday, should have to go through this. I truly hope this never happens to anyone else. read more
