We knew nothing about Yemeni cuisine but enjoy trying new things. It was very nice inside - a more upscale decor. Our server (I wish I knew his name because he was fabulous) walked us through everything and made entree recommendations. He was spot on with what he suggested. I got the fahsa which came with a large portion of beautiful naan and my husband got haneeth. Both were flavorful and tasted authentic even though I have never had this cuisine before. The service was respectful, gracious and thoughtful. Our server told us to ask for the special - they are not always advertised. Wow, I am torn. So I have been wanting to try this place for awhile and it was a lackluster experience. The positive and most important is the food it was very good when we were finally served. I won't be back anytime soon based on the service. Part of eating out is not wanting to deal with the hassles of cooking at home. When I walked in with my friend we had to approach the register where the workers were gathered to let them know we wanted the table. When were were seated no menus, no water. After 10 minutes of trying to get anyone's attention, I was able to flag down someone who seemed to be the manager owner, he was very nice and made some recommendations. Our waiter showed up to take our order 10 minutes later. During the meal which took about 40minutes to come out, we had to flag people down to get anything. And they were selective in their response. There was a waitress who made eye contact with me but instead of acknowledging me she quickly turned away and went to the other side of the restaurant. The place was not busy and at first I thought it was because we did not fit in with their other clientele, but after being their for awhile it was clear that service is not of importance to them. Everyone was treated the same in our section. Will I ever get take out? Maybe if I order ahead an hour before hand; as far as dining in, maybe if I feel like blowing a couple of hours (most of it waiting) and working to get any service. My fault may have been having too high expectations based on the glowing Yelp reviews. I think if it is your first time going, like was mine, maybe go with the expectation of having to track down the workers and sitting and waiting for a long time. without exaggeration, this was the most delicious, the healthiest and enjoyable food I have ever had. The 'mandy' dish was absolutely delicious, accompanied by a genuine Yemeni 'fahsah'... We also had a plate of the famous Yemeni 'shafout'...umm..umm. The manager, Ahmed Alshiekh, was also amazingly customer oriented and kept checking on us several times during our visit to make sure everything was good. We also had a very healthy Yemeni 'ghishr', a famous Yemeni 'coffee shells' drink....with an additional 'Adeni tea'. . This place a few good dishes like the Fahsa. They do, however, have a few off tasting dishes like the Shafout. The reason I'm giving them only 2 stars is because they claim they deliver and they don't. Their delivery service is intermittent and horribly unreliable. It'll take them 20 min before they call you to tell you they're not delivering. They're unapologetic even after waiting 20 min and have placed an order of $50. This happened to us more than once even though Eat24 clearly has them as actively delivering. Frustrating, not happy! read more

This place is a well-kept secret, but deserves to be busier than it is. It's one of the top restaurants I've been to in the area, any type of food. It's the kind of place that makes me almost wish I didn't hand out so many 5-star reviews bc this one sticks out from many of the others that I gave that rating to. Naan bread is great and they have a variety of fantastic dishes. Can't remember all the names, but don't need to - never ate anything that wasn't somewhere between really good and fantastic. Quick service and small crowds have been a feature of most of my visits there. If I had to make a complaint it would be this - my wife and I have been planning to 'eat around' and check out more places, but this place is so good we've now been 3 times and will probably continue to go again. Think of all the local restaurants we won't ever try! I like Mandy but it's not that wow taste, and I ate Maraq, it was good but very hot spices and I don't know till I start eating , it was my worst choice. Marib is good. It is one of the few Yemeni places in the area and has high quality flavorful food which you cannot get elsewhere. The prices are reasonable and the service is fast. I've been here two or three times in the past few years and I always enjoy going back. I used to like Saba II in Falls Church as my top Yemeni restaurant but a recent experience there was very bad and I quit going there. This isn't a purely Yemeni restaurant as it serves food from the Levant as well. The food is decent, but many items are lacking. The samboosa meat was dry and did not contain much seasoning. The sahawag was not authentic and lacked the quality of that made by the many Yemeni cooks I know. The entrees do not come with an accompanying side dish like salad. The 21 dollar cost of lamb haneed was exorbitant given that it was only the meat with basmati rice. There are no kids portions, so don't ask for an extra plate to share your food with a small child because you will be billed the cost of an entree for it. read more

Yes! This is a great choice and if you are unsure about Yemeni food, you will be convinced how yummy, natural and enjoyable the food is. This was my first middle eastern meal, with the exception of kabobs and pilaf. The food was delicious and the staff was attentive and gracious. We had Maraq (lamb based soup), lentil soup (the best ever), fresh baked pita, Fahsa (like beef stew), Yemeni-style Salad, Haneeth (lamb and rice), Chicken Mandi (with rice), Lamb Mandi (lamb and rice), desert, Shai Adeni (chai tea with spices) and traditional green coffee with dates. The beef sambusas were flaky and mildly seasoned. The fasha!!! Did I spell that right? Who cares, it was awesome. Portions are very large so one entree is enough for two people. We ordered three because I wanted to try everything so we'll have food for days. There was a minor issue with the delivery, but they came back out very quickly. Everyone makes mistakes. Walked in to this place on a Sunday night. Just a few patrons in the house and so we were seated quickly. The restaurant was super clean and decorated nicely. It could be slightly more modern however. I honestly came here for just dessert but was really hungry so decided to order a main dish. My friend and I split a lamb mandi and ordered one areekah for dessert. The lamb mandi wasn't bad but it was SOOOOO average. I was expecting it to be spicy but it wasn't. The rice wasnt very hot and wasnt seasoned very extravagantly, however the lamb shank was really good. It was cooked well and fell off the bone. It also came with this tomato sauce that was delicious. I was also really shocked at the portion size. 18 dollars for that little amount of food was disappointing. Now on to the dessert - areekah. This is the sole reason I am giving this place 4 stars. This is the weirdest dessert I have ever had but I absolutely loved it. The best way I can describe it is that it resembles banana bread pudding but topped with cream and shredded cheese. You might think the shredded cheese wont go with it but quite the contrary! The salt cuts the sweet and the richness. It was delicious and so unique. I will for sure be coming back here but next time for breakfast that they serve all day. read more
