Let it be known far and wide that I do the major grocery shopping in this household so I'm always looking for great deals, the freshest produce and unique grocery shopping experiences. I really enjoyed my shopping experience at Mariano's. I found the produce very fresh. I loved the fresh squeezed juices (orange and watermelon). The smoothies are well made, And the bakery section is definitely worth a look. Now these were my favorite stops but the whole store had a lot of great merchandise. Some of the prices of items are just a bit higher than my go-to Caputo's or Valli, but taking a look around, I found some great deals on other products, pasta especially on the day I visited. The store does have a nice array of merchandise, but I would still have to stop at an Asian mart for my Asian staples. Unlike Valli, which has most, if not all of my Asian staple needs. The prepared foods department is nice, but so cramped. There's hardly any room for folks that are being helped in the bakery section and I hardly got to look at the soup and salads as it was very very crowded around those bars. The whole market is clean and other than the prepared foods area, the market is spacious and there are a lot of checkout lines. All the workers were friendly (except one lady in the customer service department--odd that she should be the friendliest one, no?) Honestly, the donuts deserve their own review. They had Fruit Loop, Maple Bacon, PBJ and others. With all these delicious creations, the plain glazed one floored me. So you can imagine just how good the other ones were. read more

I would *like* to give this location five stars, and maybe I will be able to eventually, but today is not that day. I am just not as impressed with this location as I am the Palatine and Arlington Heights locations. The staff was not NEARLY as friendly or as knowledgeable (I am hoping it was a "learning curve" and they will get the hang of it soon). It seems much smaller than the other locations I have been to. The prices are still fantastic (which is very, very important), but the setup seems really clustered. Maybe it was just too busy that day for me to get a really good feel...? However, the most disappointing thing about the whole trip? The total lack of fried dough at the gelato station. To be completely honest, that's the part I was looking forward to the most about a location opening here--I wouldn't have to drive all the way to Palatine to get my dough-fix. How is this not a consistent thing throughout the stores?? I don't really understand that, I guess. So it left a bad taste in my mouth. One of the specialty donuts tried its hardest to remove said bad taste, but it lingers there just the same. I have a fried-dough-shaped hole in my heart :( read more

I'm generally a cheap person when it comes to buying groceries; I usually go to Caputo's or Butera. They are within reasonable distance from me, but lately I've been visiting Mariano's more often. The prices are higher, but the service from the employees and the cleanliness of the store keep me coming back. I have tried the lemon sorbet from Vero Gelato while shopping (which thankfully did not have a long line), and it was very good. The gelato selection is decent; but I personally wouldn't just go to the grocery store just to eat gelato and jet. The aisles are generously wide in the more common areas; a big plus for me because at other supermarkets, I have to maneuver around extra stock or impulse displays (for the record, I'm not a person of girth; I just like to get around people to take forever to pick their pasta sauce). There are generous selections of cheeses, meats, beers, wines, and everything else in between. The staff is helpful and know their stuff; most of the time, they say "Hello, how are you doing?" and they seem to enjoy their work. Now, I go during quiet hours (early morning usually), so I don't know how it is for other times. I have had ordered sushi twice from the sushi bar to take home. I don't know how it is at all times, but they do have an actual sushi chef making the goods (I asked--but could be made up; nonetheless I believe it). The prices are a smidge more than ordering takeout sushi from other places, but hey...they make it while you shop and you can just pick it up from them when you're done. I want to know what the bakery is making that makes the front of the store smell so darn good. I'm guessing lemon poppyseed something or other. This is mostly my fault, but...please remove or move that $60 option from the debit withdrawl screen at checkout! It's so close to the NO option, and I keep hitting it on accident. read more

First time visit to this branch of Mariano's. I like the place. They have many fresh options available for take away. Pizza, sushi, prepared foods, etc. Full service meat + seafood departments. Nice cheese section too. I liked the bakery. Try the Macadamia nut cookies. They were pretty good. I also liked the fresh squezed orange juice in the produce department. They have quite a selection of both upscale and regular supermarket items.I am glad that we are getting options like this in grocery shopping other than the typical Jewel Dominick's, etc., etc. I think having this type of store is going to have an impact on the other stores and make them up their game. I'm in "like" with this Mariano's. Not love. And in the sea of Jewels and now abandoned Dominick's, it's no surprise that this location is hopping. The layout isn't choice, mostly because it's a previous Dominick's-turned-Mariano's. However, it's still nicely stocked with boatloads of fresh produce (with a nice organic section, too), plenty of ready made salads, cheese for days and an impressive meat selection. As for other conveniences, my one year old will tell you (if she could form sentences) that the shopping carts fashioned as cars are the best thing ever. Along with the occasional tasty samples the nice folks dole out on the weekends. Is there room for improvement? Sure. The parking lot is small, malformed and can be rage inducing. As mentioned previously, the layout is a bit confusing but after a few trips, familiarity sets in. Pro tip: Gratis cucumber water near the ready made food section. read more

I was very impressed by the sheer size and selection of this place. Its HUGE. From my initial walk through I saw a juice bar, a cafe, a sushi bar, a Gelato station, like 10 soups in the soup station, a hot food station, A pizza station, a giant salad bar, an olive bar and a deli Holy crap! The best part about this place is the selection of stuff you mostly can't find elsewhere. Examples include: Fresh Squeezed watermelon juice: nearly impossible to find anywhere and its tastes great too. Kiwano Melon: this weirdly shaped fruit is fun and tasty to eat but hard to find. Rambutan: usually only found in asian markets, Cherimoya: Twain said this was the greatest fruit ever. I think its just good lol. Add all that on top of everything a jewel would have and you have a winner of a grocery store. PLUS the prices are way better than a whole foods and the employees aren't all pretentious bastards. Definitely check it out if you're driving by and want a quick snack or need some groceries. read more

Update: after seeing the newer stores, these guys REALLY need to revamp this store. High demand market. But none of the awesome services as the newer locations. Everyone has already said how awesome this place is so I will start with the "needs improvement" area. NEEDS: wine bar, popcorn area, BBQ joint, oyster bar. Ok maybe it needs to be 3 stars but I can't knock on them too much. They cooked for me for 3 months while I had no Kitchen. Everyone there is just too damn friendly. Love it. It's a commercial place will a local 1960's kinda feel where everyone knows who I am. Tips: You can ask for 1 hamburger bun from the bakery while ur burger is getting made. Not many ppl know this. I absolutely love this store, there is just too much that I love about it. Let's start with the produce. I love their huge selection of organic fruits and veggies. Cuts my trip to wholefoods out of the rotation which is perfectly fine with me since I have to drag two kids around with me. Their veggies and fruit are always fresh and look delicious. Their soup bar and "cafe" area is great and there's so much to eat there. I love their gelato bar and always get a gelato while shopping which is a great plus. Their soups are sometimes salty but for the most part they're always great. My daughter loves their soup. Their deli carries my favorite brand "d&w". No msg, made naturally and tastes great. Their cheese area is always great and always makes me want to host a party. The best thing probably about Mariano's is their fresh squeezed juice. My mouth is salivating just thinking about their juices. Tastes so delicious, you'll never want to buy boxed orange juice ever again. Their customer service is also above the regular grocery store. I wanted to love Mariano's when it opened right by my house. I love the concept and I like I just stated in my Eataly review, this is about the nicest grocery store besides Whole Foods that you'll see out in the boring old suburbs. The grocery part is okay, nothing to get too worked up about. I used to go there just to get my prized coconut oil (it's a miracle worker, I'll tell ya) butttt then I found out the target a block away from my house has the same kind so I started going there instead). Other than that, I don't see a huge difference in Mariano's and other grocery stores. Untilllll you get to the food section. The area is set up nicely, looks really contemporary. I've only tried the soups, sushi, and gelato there. Soups are good but almost every time I go, over half of the soups are so close to being empty all they have is dry, crusted soup on the bottom. Ew. Don't get the sushi. Or at least their prepackaged ones. Worst sushi I've ever had. The gelato is good, I've definitely had better but if I need a quick gelato fix I love coming to Mariano's. On a Sunday afternoon, I was puzzled by the lack of hordes that are usually at Valli Produce and realized it was because Mariano's opened five minutes away. As a cooking enthusiast, I do a lot of grocery shopping and the prices are on par with Valli and Super Target. I was a little disappointed with the seafood selection. I have yet to find a better seafood selection as HMart in Niles where you can get sushi grade fish. Inside, there are additional sections that you wouldn't expect a grocery to offer like a bakery with cupcakes and pastries, gelato stand, wood oven pizzeria, and even a sushi station. For only $1, you can enjoy a mini gelato. I wanted to stay longer but I promised the wifey that we wouldn't be there more than an hour. Pros: brand new facility that's very clean and spacious. Produce prices are less than what you would pay for most grocery chains. Meat section also carries both choice and prime beef. Additional sections make kick up the grocery shopping experience to a new level. Excellent service in each department and no obnoxious customers that shove you. Cons: limited items for ethnic groups. Although they have two rows with flags representing a variety of different countries, there is only about four feet of shelf space for each group. You also won't find certain cuts of meat that are common for ethnic cooking such as pork belly for Chinese siu yok or beef short rib for Korean kalbi. WOW, I love this place. I use to go to Whole foods and Pete's Fresh but now its all day everyday Mariano's ... My favorite drink in the whole world is FRESH SQUEEZED OJ and here you can get half a GALLON!!!! for $3.50, that is unheard of. If you go to Jamba-Juice you pay like $8 for a 32 OZ. That alone makes me love this place. Also their salad bar is about $2 less that of whole-foods and i would say its better. Finally, You can get a nice small cup of Gelato for .99 cents!!! This location of Mariano's is a typical clean, organized and well stocked store but what is I like the most from here is their bakery section. Their bakery is always full of freshly baked different goodies that are all delicious! I never missed to buy two or more each time I go to the store. Their cakes is also recommendable and perfect for any occasion. I also tried it twice and it was good. In different designs to choose from too! I prefer to go here on weekdays so there is lesser people because it is usually packed on weekends and to avoid long lines in the checkout. read more

Always heard about this store so I was very glad to hear they were building one nearby. Bakery - good luck walking by it without getting something. Prepared food - a gem for someone who doesn't like to cook (ME.) Speaking of not liking to cook, you can pick out your steak (or other raw meat selection) and they will grill it to your exact liking. Sushi - not a fan but my sister said it was excellent. Deli - be prepared for a long wait but their selection is big and you will likely find something for everyone in the family. As for their other typical grocery selections, I find their prices quite competitive with other local grocery chains. Thoroughly impressed with Mariano's. :) read more

I LOVED the Mariano's we used to live by in Arlington Heights and I was so excited that there was going to a Mariano's right by the place we were moving to. That is, until I went there. It was TINY and cramped! Maybe I was spoiled by the AH location but frankly, I was a little disappointed. I mean, I get that they didn't have much to work with since they took over a Dominick's but I just expected more. I still go here ever week cas it's so close and I don't like the other option, a dingy rundown supermarket about a mile away, but I don't love it like I did the AH location. It's just okay. The one thing I truly hate is the way they bag groceries. The vast majority of "baggers" are TERRIBLE! They pack only a few items in each bag no matter how many times you tell them to fill them up and you end up with a zillion plastic bags that mostly end up in the trash. I would just prefer to bag my own groceries. Overall, this Mariano's is just an okay location. Maybe one day we'll move near a bigger Mariano's and I can fall in love again.... read more

Great selection of organics here -- at reasonable prices! What's even better is that it really seems like someone in their produce section cares. Produce is always fresh and beautiful, no matter what day of the week or time of day you go. (I go there around twice a week, and the times/days I go are always different.) They even have some organic stuff here that Whole Foods doesn't carry -- organic ginger root, anyone? Also, they squeeze orange (and a few other juices) fresh in the store daily. A half gallon of OJ is currently $3.50 -- really reasonable, considering how delicious it is. I've also seen fresh-squeezed watermelon, celery, and carrot juices for sale in half-gallon containers. Employees are friendly and courteous, but not overbearing. It's also a union shop, which is nice. Small things make a difference, like the mini-carts that have a little hook on the back for your purse, as well as a small parcel shelf and a cupholder so you can carry around one of the delicious beverages from their Vero coffee stand -- or a smoothie from their fresh smoothie stand. Stay hydrated while you shop! I wish they had more in the way of organic meats (although they do sell some Niman Ranch sausages), and their peanut butter/jam selection is surprisingly small. But everything else is pretty great, both selection and price-wise. Cheese, wine, beer, bakery -- all good. Deli counter offers a nice selection, although I haven't bought anything from it yet. One tiny thing I wish they'd change: they carry Smart Deli products. Really wish they carried Tofurky ones as well. (IMHO, Smart Deli is kinda meh flavorwise.) read more

BACON LONG JOHN DONUT! BACON DONUT?! Oh yesiree bob I think so! Without shame I ordered that donut, took it straight out of it's package and devoured it in the refrigerated meat section. The donut, with its honey glazed bacon delicately placed on top of maple syrup frosting; it was bliss and baby kissing folks. My friend and I had a blast at Mariano's yesterday shopping for all the necessary ingredients needed to make Bisquick chicken fingers. There were sample stations going on everywhere and let's just say lunch was free that day. This fancy place has a juice bar, a "food court," a decent meat selection, tons of deserts, beautifully displayed fruits and veggies (fresh too), a whole wall of overpriced granola, nuts, grains, etc, isle upon isle of beauty products, a massive alcohol selection (wine tastings were going on too I might add ;), and I noticed that their mustard variety was quite exceptional. Customer service was fair; a few sharp tones flying around but hey, it's almost Thanksgiving and I'd be sharp too if I had to deal with psychotic old ladies furiously ordering focaccia and cheesecake all day. My favorite go to grocery store. I travel a distance to get to the one in Hoffman Estates but it's well worth it. I love to come to Mariano's for all my shopping items. After being told I have been exposed to COVID and waiting for my tests to come back I decided to avoid exposing anyone else and have groceries delivered instead. I love Mariano's - good products - good prices - nice store so I decided to give them a try for delivery. After placing my order I found out that it was not being handled by Mariano's at all but a third party (without my knowledge) - Instacart. Since I received an e-mail warning I tried to contact the store (who then informed me of the switch). I tried finding a number online but the one I got has been disconnected. That meant not being able to find out what the issue was nor even being able to cancel the order. Strike one! Then, though I did add a tip to the order, when the order was delivered the person kept calling me because she couldn't figure out how the intercom worked. This meant that I had to come down and pick-up and carry the order upstairs anyway. Strike two! While I will continue to shop at Mariano's, I won't use the delivery option again. I would NOT recommend that process. read more

By far one of the best grocery stores I have ever been too. Its like a Whole Foods mixed with a Wegmans. Coming from the East Coast I felt like I was in heaven. To start with they have a huge eatery area with pizza and variety of hot and cold foods. They also have ice cream and fresh juices which are excellent. Overall the produce and selection of items in the store cannot be surpassed. They also provide a variety of organic foods at a price that is actually affordable. The Beer and Wine selection is also extensive It is very busy on the weekends, but between the samples of food and sometimes alcohol, its worth a visit. read more

I'm not the stereotypical woman. I hate shopping. For anything. And then Mariano's came along. I've learned to like grocery shopping (that felt weird...). But seriously, this is a really nice store. It's clean, well-stocked, has a good variety, and there are employees everywhere! They aren't pesky, but they are there if you need help. The house brand, Roundy's, is consistently good stuff, too. The guys at the deli and meat counters are always friendly and quick to help you out, and the Vero gelato is a great little treat. But the reason they lose a star from me is this: damn if they are not pushy about their plastic bags!! Every single time I come in, I bring my own freezer bags and reusable bags, and every time they are asking me "is plastic okay?" No, plastic isn't okay, that's why I brought my own bags. I've specifically said "no plastic", only to get home and find that inside my reusable bags are random items wrapped in plastic bags... HUH?! So now, I insist on bagging my own stuff. It's easier on me when I go to put things away and there are no plastic bags I'm stuck holding onto until I can recycle them later on. Other than that, it's a great store. Just please, back off on the plastic bags. read more

When I am bored in my lovely neighborhood of Schaumburg and have a hankering for being in a grocery store that just makes you happy...I go to Mariano's. Soft piano playing, fresh juices, organic produce (reasonably priced for the most part--very fresh), the smell of fresh breads and yummy cheeses to taste--all part of the Mariano's experience. If I am ever invited to anyone's home- I stop here first. Best selection of flowers and fancy baked goods which have never failed to impress my hosts. I always get a 'WOW- where did you find this?!" The regular grocery is not too bad either. I love the sushi bar and fresh gelato...again the key word is fresh! The ready made dinners are very nice and you can sample just about everything before taking it home in your grubby little hands. Also very choice selection of meats--most of which they will cook for you right on the premesis. read more

I am totally impressed with this store. Your produce is exceptional. Your meat is the best and your employees are wonderful and pleasant. I do, however, have ONE compliant- it is about the Vero Cafe. I cannot believe that you cannot find a solution to the coldness that employees of that part of the store must contend with. I saw one of the employees at the Cafe working with her coat on. Last year during the winter months, heaters were given to the employees for that area. This solution was not very effective. I do not feel that anyone who works inside a store should have to work wearing outside garments just to try to stay warm. It would be very simple to construct a wind and cold barrier across the side of the cafe that faces the doors. You would simply need to use 2 x 4 pieces of lumber and some sheets of clear plastic stapled to the wood. This structure would have to go up to the ceiling and down to the floor to achieve an optimal barrier. I usually come to Marianos for two things: baked good and soups. The soups always seem to be at the bottom of the barrel when I come around 5pm. The soups are delicious but I don't understand why they don't refill them when the store is still open for 5 more hours. The baked good always look nice and taste like home made. I am glad to have a grocery store here again. I hope after the newness wears off its not so crowded. I was a little put off when I asked a man who worked in the wine dept. if he had a particular wine. He gave me a smart answer while trying to be cute. I did not appreciate it and will never ask him for anything again. The rest of the workers in the store have been quite nice and helpful. I knew this place was going to be packed when I saw the the lack of vacant spots in the parking lot directly in front of Mariano's. Sure enough, there were people all over the place bumping carts into each other and generally being inconsiderate of one another. No surprise, really. I was very impressed with the layout inside and the clever use of space that the previous tenant, Dominick's, was unable to achieve. It sort of forces the shopper to pass by many of the beautifully displayed ready made food options and showcases for the bakery, deli, seafood, and meat departments. Lots of stainless steel appliances with tan and black paint give the place a sleek and high-class feeling. The wine, beer, and liquor section had a decent selection and prices were right on par for a grocery store of this caliber. Unfortunately that means the prices were higher for nearly everything compared to other local stores such as Binny's or Valli. You probably aren't looking to save money while shopping here. Rather, I'd imagine that the typical customer will be the type who enjoys the shopping experience and has time to stop for a salad, pizza, or coffee at the small dining area. I personally felt comfortable just to walk around and look at stuff and even stop for lunch because the kale salad looked fantastic -- and it was. Product selection is vast but I wouldn't go so far as comparing Mariano's with Whole Foods. The selection is certainly more biased towards the typical American diet that doesn't rely as heavily on organic or health foods. I'd say it's more of an organic selection in areas where they see a reasonable profit margin. A more accurate description would be a Jewel or Dominick's of the future -- or rather how they should've remodeled their stores the last time around to stay ahead of the game. Mariano's relies heavily on the experience so if that's your thing then you'll love this place. I tend to shop every day or almost every other day in order to buy less and keep everything fresh so the ability to quickly enter and leave a smaller place such as Valli is what I prefer. It's hard to rate this store because I've never done a full-blown shopping excursion here. It's always running in to get something. I was on the way to a suburban BBQ and ran in to get beer and chips. It is more upscale so the they have nicer "brands" to choose from than your typical grocery store. Also, it is just so darn pretty and organized in there. The piano player is especially comical. So...those are my thoughts. Love! Love! Love! It's a grocery store that doesn't require me to buy ingredients, wash and prep, cook or bake before I eat something freshly prepared. The very first time I went to pick out steaks, I was very excited. It reminded me of the Butcher Shop Steakhouse in Chicago. I picked out my raw meat, informed the gal how I wanted it seasoned and she cooked it to my liking. Suffice it to say, I don't use my stove to broil steaks anymore. Upon writing this, I don't know if they broil fish there. Oh how convenient that would be and I would probably eat salmon steaks more often. I love their cookies and baked goods. I don't like their salad selection. None of it looks appealing, appetizing or healthy. I can't order a caeser salad or a pasta salad or a cole slaw unless its drenched in something. I can pick and choose and create my own salad from the fresh salad bar but it's in the middle of everything so I'm not sure how uncontaminated it is by the passer-bys. Of course, I still have to wander the aisles to stock up on other items for my refrigerator, freezer and pantry. But hey, the hard part of cleaning and getting the stench of broiled meat (and hopefully fish) out of my kitchen is no longer a concern. Food is good - customer service is spotty Called to place an order at the Sushi department - was directed there by the main number. Was on hold for several minutes. Tried to call back both the Sushi number and the main number. Finally a man answered and "explained' that the Sushi department had only one person working it an was "on break" and the people at the main number did not know this (hence did not answer the phone when I tried to call back) No apology only "did you want to place an order / what did you want?" I guess I should have figured out the employee was "on break" myself and the manger is doing me a big favor taking my money. read more

I like to keep fresh flowers in the house in memory of my father so I buy a bouquet bi-weekly. Their roses are more expensive than at Jewel and only last a pitiful few days.
