My rheumatologist suggested I do water therapy to help alleviate nerve pain stemming from spinal compression. (I have rheumatoid arthritis and lupus and spend a lot of time in bed.) I had positive experiences with watsu in the past, and when I did online research, I found that Rotem at Margoa Aquatic Bodywork uses several different modalities including watsu and aqua stretch. Seeing a practitioner with extensive training in different types of bodywork seemed most likely to bring results, so I called and made an appointment with Rotem. On the phone and in our first appointment, Rotem asked detailed questions about my condition and current symptoms and explained about the work he does. When we got in the pool, it was immediately clear that he is an experienced professional who knows exactly what he is doing. During the first half of the session, I was introduced to aqua stretch - every element of the bodywork was specifically tailored to be therapeutic to my body's needs and to work within my range of motion. Throughout the aqua stretch, Rotem was in constant communication with me to get feedback and to check for any physical pain or discomfort I might have. Aqua stretch addresses every area of the body from your toes all the way up to your neck to identify potential issues or problem areas. It was the most thorough approach to physical therapy I've experienced. The second half of the session was about total relaxation and a state of deep meditation for me. Rotem explained what we'd be doing in advance, so I was able simply to close my eyes and luxuriate in the experience! It was an incredible combination of water massage, energy work, and sound therapy. I was amazed by the freedom of movement and incredible stretching I experienced due to Rotem's specialized technique in the buoyancy of the warm water. The day after my second session with Rotem, I realized that the nerve pain caused by spinal compression was gone! His water bodywork had achieved what restorative yoga poses and chiropractic treatment hadn't been able to do. I am spacing out my visits now to maintain the positive effects of the healing work. Rotem made this experience wonderful! He explained the whole process before we got in the water, always made sure I was comfortable, and continuously checked on me throughout the session. After an injury when I was younger, I lost a lot of range of motion. Rotem was able to stretch and release tension in my body and I was able to move comfortably and had a huge relief of my chronic pain. Rotem is so kind and professional. I've gone to physical therapy before but never something like this that incorporated hot water and a relaxing immersive environment. It was like a combination of message and PT. I liked the music that played throughout the session. It was also interesting getting a sense of my body and whatever part of it needed attention by moving against the water resistance. Super cool! To be honest, when I first saw this on FB I was a little worried by the idea of going to a strangers house and getting in their pool! I had my second session yesterday with Rotem in his wonderful pool. OMG!!!! It was so incredible. He combined many different aquatic therapy techniques with me. Each was so skillful, done with such attention and care. I've been having some problems with my hips, knees, back and neck. And every single issue was made to feel 1000 times better. I feel like a new woman. I've had many different types of therapies, massage amd watsu and Rotem is the tops! You must try a session with him! More than 2 years later, I now see Rotem every week. Some are short sessions, aqua stretch only and every 2nd or 3rd week I schedule with him for the full Margoa session. He keeps getting better and better! Wow! That about sums it up. There really aren't words to describe how amazing this water therapy is. It truly is the best "massage" I've ever had. But it's so much more than a massage. It's a complete body realignment. Days Later-still thinking about this experience. Found myself away from home on my birthday in Las Vegas for the first time this year. While looking up non-gambling things to do, I found Margoa Aqua Therapy. The reviews dance around what this is but fail to really explain it. Now I know why~ it is really like nothing else I've found, and I've been to spas all over the world. Upon arrival we went over what the modalities included again and talked about expectations, health issues and how the session would progress. It was a good get-to-know you time that helped me relax. The pool was warm and comfortable and the surroundings homey and inviting, like being at a friend's house. Starting at my feet he worked out all my joints and muscles looking and feeling for the telltale releases. This "aqua stretch" part lasted roughly half an hour-? We took a break and let gravity re-introduce itself. I felt loose and energized. Then we started the second part of the session. I don't know what to call it. It isn't Watsu but something he has developed based on 15 years of experience. The pool was completely shaded at the time. At this point I feel we had established some mutual trust and I was able to submit, be quiet (hard for me) and let him lead the therapy. *In retrospect I think I had such a great result because of this. Seriously, just trust him; he is a professional and incredibly adept and intuitive at what he does. My ears were submerged and for the next- I have no idea how long- I was floating on my back with my eyes closed. Sight was eclipsed, sound was muffled. I could occasionally hear a distant plane, the pool motor or a heartbeat; I'm not sure whose. Physically, during this portion- he wound me serpentine like through the pool putting me in various inscrutable poses I wouldn't have been able to accomplish on land. Stretching and gliding, a delightful frisson of bubbles and a targeted percussion of waves rose up against my back occasionally. It was fun to concentrate on the bubbles and track their progress from my back along my sides and eventually up to the surface. My arm got a bit cold toward the end but it was an interesting juxtaposition. Rotem remained wordless, guiding me expertly and intuitively through this womb like state. Kneading and pulling me, he is stronger than his slight frame suggests. As we wrapped up the session he touched my forehead and then my heart. Unexpectedly my carefully composed, affable demeanor dissolved in the ripples of the warm pristine pool. Some unseen key unlocked a door I keep tightly shut. Interesting what happens when you're completely relaxed, the walls just come down. I was unprepared. I hadn't been this unguarded and in years. When we finished Rotem "grounded me" by putting me back in touch with the ground and edge of the pool. This was very helpful while I got my head back on straight and mustered the courage to open my eyes. He clued in quickly that something had changed and spent as much time as he could with me before the next client arrived. I would have liked to stay longer to get to know this wonderful human being with the magical touch but he is a popular fellow! A very powerful therapy on so many levels, I cannot recommend enough! As the receiver, you float supported while the therapist takes you through gentle stretches and movement. Your mind lets go of all the stress and you effortlessly move in space. I had such an amazing experience with Rotem and his hydrotherapy. It is unlike anything I've ever experienced before. Being unfamiliar with this type of therapy, I was a bit apprehensive/nervous at first. Rotem was very understanding and told me everything I should expect from before.
