My husband and I visited Margies on a Saturday night to celebrate his 40th birthday. The staff were welcoming and very accommodating. They wrote him a birthday card that was placed on our table before we were seated which was a very sweet touch. The martinis (dirty and espresso) were delicious!!! The place itself has a great vibe: decor, live music, set up, etc. We had the mussels, Cesar salad, chicken under a brick, bronzino, side of brussels and the creme brûlée. Everything was delicious, however we both did not care for the bronzino dish (which is odd since we typically love bronzino) we felt the combination of the black olive tapenade and cooked fennel had a very off flavor. Love coming here to sit at the bar. Mark makes one of the best old fashions around! The management team is very nice and accommodating. Meh, maybe we got the wrong items, brick chicken dinner- vegan bowl- or maybe just used to more flavor in things. Chicken was ok, good crisp, bland-- simple sprinkle of rosemary or brine infusion would take this to the top. The potatoes are only cut in half and just boiled. So they are unflavored boiled half potatoes. I would be curious who likes this style of cooking a potatoes as I've seen some places make these before. The vegan bowl was decent. Definitely could step it up a bit with herbs and little extra cost items. read more

My husband and I had dinner at Margie's. It was one of the best dining experiences we've had. We were not rushed and were able to enjoy the live music and all of the food, drinks, and wine. It was a 2.5 hour experience that we fully enjoyed. Our server was also so engaging and genuine, and knowledgeable as well! The fresh rolls they give you are out of this world! Not often do I find a place as comfortable as Margies. They say it's named after the grandmother of the owners, who's photos adorn the walls. She was a beautiful woman, her reputation in hospitality apparently legendary. And if they were going for the same feels Margie put out, they nailed it with the staff. Connor, the strapping young lad behind the bar is now allowed to place my order without me uttering a spoken word. He doesn't have to look hard, just a glance and I feel him looking into my soul. Customer-Bartender relationships don't start like that, they take time. In a few short months of my getting to know him, I feel like a relative, perhaps a friend for life. That's not something you find around the corner everyday and I just want to thank Connor publicly for making me a better person, a better husband, a better father. They say Bartenders can be accountants, lawyers, therapists. If I have any questions I confidently turn to Dr. Connor Mc, Esq. CPA, I know he will steer me in the right direction. I am filled with gratitude, not just for Margies coming into my life, but for the people behind the scenes that have braved the most tumultuous times in hospitality history to bring some semblance of joy. My wife loves this place so we come here a fair amount. This review is about the lobster roll. The home made chips that come with it are spectacular. The lobster roll itself, though, is pretty small and just meh. Skip it. The burger is a great deal at $20 and the bread they serve before the meal is incredible. 5 stars for food. The bone in rib eye is Pittsburg style...black crust, cooked well...GOOD beef w excellent fatties in there. Onion rings are really good too. I actually saved the cocktail sauce and horseradish from the oyster plate and used it to dip the onion rings....so good! Market salad was beautiful (I'm sure this is seasonal) this had a bed of avocado dressing at the bottom holding a blossom of endives and rolled cucumbers and some baby romaine...cute pretty...I used the bread to scoop and finish the avocado dressing. The bread basket had a variety of breads- mini sourdoughs, semolina, baguette, etc...very cute And tasty...I liked the brown sliced bread...don't know what it was...wasn't rye and it wasn't pumpernickel ... After we finally finished decorating for Christmas we were exhausted and hungry. I live in broad channel and we didn't want to travel to eat. We wanted a hamburger. All our usual spots were closed as it was 9 pm. Driving past the Rockaway hotel we decided to try Margie's. Oh my, we got lucky. Walked into an inviting ambiance with a gentleman playing keyboards and singing everything from Christmas tunes to the American songbook to Pink Floyd, Shine on You Crazy Diamond. We started with an ice cold beer and a perfect glass of wine. Then an incredible pot of mussels with a white sauce. Perfect. Finally, the burgers. Absolutely wonderful. I will definitely be back. I would have went 5 stars but they need new cleaning products as the scent did not compliment the decor, service and food. Awesome. read more

We have eaten here a few times and it just keeps getting better. I hope they NEVER get rid of the tuna tartare and crispy rice sticks. This was our first time at Margie's and we left full and happy. It is very evident that this team has great leadership because they work together with love and that transcends to customers. Patrick is truly invested in his patrons and it was a delight to meet him and his team. Alina was so friendly and generous, Granit was lovely and Maddie recommended the cookie dessert that was delicious. She was a sweet as our dessert. We stayed at the Rockaway Hotel and were able to taste the dinner, brunch and room service. We couldn't find one complaint. Among my favorite things was the Drunken Pumpkin cocktail- so delicious. The rice balls and French onion soup were so delicious. The staff was really accommodating and made our stay memorable. Will definitely see them soon. Food is always good. Prices can be high but you can find something in your price range. Still haven't had the lobster dynamite which my daughter raves about . Portions are good. Filet mignon is always delicious , other steak can be fatty . My son loved the calamari with sweet chili sauce. . We did parm night which is a good deal. My husband enjoyed his shrimp parm and I the chicken. It may be basic but they do it well . I took home half. I wish they offered a choice in dessert. While the cheesecake with blackberry sauce was delicious , I would have forgone my portion and shared the banana split. We were stuffed and didn't need 2 desserts. Drinks are good as well. The ambiance alone at Margie's is an experience. The wall decor and open windows are beautiful. We had the oysters, muscles and burrata to start. Followed by some steaks and pasta. Not a place I would recommend, of course your experience might vary. We were seated and ordered some coffee and orange juice. Then the breakfast would come like 40 minutes later. From what I could see the place wasn't even busy. So I don't know what's going on in the kitchen. The pancakes didn't come with syrup and fruits and we had to remind the server something was missing. Flies were buzzing around even we sat inside the dining room. The Egg Benedicts I can't tell if they came with the hollandaise sauce or not, it's kind of dried anyway. I was hungry so I took it anyway. I really suspect it was in the kitchen for some time waiting for the rest of the dishes. read more

Zero stars for this place. My girlfriend planned a birthday dinner for me at this restaurant. We arrived at 6pm and ordered a $60 bottle of wine to start. At 6.05 we ordered a burrata as an app to start. At 6.20 we ordered a steak and salad to share. The 2 other tables next to us arrived after us and both received their apps and entrees before we even saw any food hit the table. At 7pm we received a burrata and salad but no steak. I would not recommend this place to visit. My first time here and never coming back again. The funny thing is the table next to us was the owners family so it seemed like they were more important than any other guest in the building. The manager came over after an hour we were just agitated and decided to leave. The manager comped our meals that we never got and was apologetic but by that time it was too late. Service was sub par to say the least and management was ok but could of been more attentive. Again 50 minutes for an app with tomatoes and cheese is a joke. Then they bring one of the entrees which was a wedge salad and the app to the table. Please save your money and go somewhere else. read more

From My parents who were celebrating their 58 Th. wedding anniversary this past Saturday : Margie's was an amazing and unforgettable experience. The food was spectacular , the service was outstanding ( shout out to Ernick, aka Ryan) , the warm welcome and atmosphere were superb. We arrived early and were escorted to the rooftop where we had a cocktail and watched a whale breach on the ocean side, a wedding cocktail party about to begin on the ballroom terrace, and the sun shine on the nyc skyline. The cocktails are unique and delicious. We went back down to Margies which is a transformation like no other extreme makeover. Seeing old Rockaway beach photos and the family history brings the message home that this is more than a restaurant. Owners And managers are all on site to greet and offer that special attention whether you're celebrating a milestone or just having a nice evening out. The filet mignon and rib eye steaks were phenomenal, and options from peppercorn sauce to Gorgonzola cheese were Divine! We split sides , truffle fries, onion rings, and roasted potatoes all excellent ! An overall phenomenal experience and we can't wait to come back. congratulations To the Tubridys and the In Good Company partners and staff for bringing a new jewel to the Rockaways!
