My review is solely for my half prime rib French dip sandwich that my fiancé bought back as leftovers for dinner. It was cold by the time it made it home but it was still so delicious. I already finished dinner but still manage to eat a good chunk of the sandwich. The French dip was definitely a perfect pairing, along with the perfectly caramelized onions and Gruyère cheese. Margie's is such a cute spot. I love the dressed up diner style vibes. It's connected to the Rockaway Hotel and there's lots of free street parking. I walked in for a late lunch and it was surprisingly empty. There's a full bar and a nice selection of soups, salad, sandwiches, and big plates, and appetizers on the menu. I went for a soup and grilled cheese since it was a little gloomy outside. My friends got the burger, poke bowl, and veggie burger. All were plated nicely and aimed to fill you up. The portions are big but I didn't have any leftovers. I'm here to discuss the soup. This is a chunky one with a big tomato flavor. It came out piping hot and I greatly appreciated it. The soup was made to dunk into and the crusty bread was the perfect invitation. I got into it! Each dunk and crunch was rotated with conversation. The caramelized onion in the sandwich was a nice touch. Go ahead and order this, I dare you. It came with a lovely side salad. It was bursting with colors and texture. Margie's, please don't change. Second time here and I'm always pleased with the wait staff and the hostess. It was packed. The rooftop stopped serving lite bites so I made my way down for a spread at Margie's. I didn't think I was hungry until I looked at the full menu again. The waitlist was full but it was only two of us so we scored when a reservation didn't make their time. Chris was our server and I feel like I left with a new friend. Great hire guys! He's a keeper. The drinks are my fav. This hotel is a neighborhood gem. I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. It's gorgeous inside and you cannot deny the smell coming from the restaurant. I visited the Rockaway Hotel and stopped by their restaurant. As someone who grew up in the rockaways, it was nice to see a quaint sophisticated establishment along the rockaways. Starting with the bread it was the best table bread I have ever had at a restaurant. If they would've only served me bread, I would've been satisfied. It also came with this butter that melts in your mouth like you wouldn't believe. For my entrée I had the salmon dish and I did not enjoy it unfortunately. The salmon was Bland and it was on a bed of random vegetables that just did not seem to fit very well together and the vegetables were bland. We also ordered calamari for the table and they were OK. I ordered the truffle fries and they were pretty good as well. In all, I would definitely return and explore the rest of the menu. read more

I say this in the context of someone who worked as a chef specializing in Southern food For an appetizer we shared a few plates of perfectly fried chicken wings. The wings were plump and delicious. Better than any standard pub fare For my entree I ordered a rare steak and eggs over easy with a side of country potatoes. I have been to Margie's twice and both times have been exceptional experiences. All parties involved raved about the variety of food and drinks as well as the great service received. It certainly is a plus that Margie is located within the Rockaway hotel that boasts a fantastic rooftop bar overlooking Rockaway Beach and on the lower level, a poolside restaurant and bar. The place is hopping so there's a high too table available. Ok not my preference but it will do. Waitress asks what kind of water I'd like. Sparkling Plus I order a glass of Cabernet. Not disclosed so I assume it's the house. (Turns out it's "Uppercut Cab". Just ok. A bit flat but pricey at $15 a glass!) Another guy (waiter?) comes over, apologetically, to inform me there's no sparkling water. But a few minutes later a bubbly glass of what seems sparkling water is brought to me. Wait it's seltzer. It's ok. My waitress strikes me as a young disinterested 20 something year old. I order Margie's salad with steak. Medium rare. The food comes and it's basically good. Nothing really special. My waitress stops by to I ask how things are? I say ok. She nods and keeps walking.... I'm getting the impression the help is mostly seasonal. I'm sure it's hard to find experienced staff! A guy, who's obviously the manager stops and asks if everything is alright? I say yes can I wrap this up? They bring over a box...no aluminum. In summary, if you're looking for a culinary experience, Rockaway is not the place for you! This is in fact, a basic, pricy, noisy beach experience. People come here to drink and laugh.
