Quick visit to Rockaway Beach before ending our trip to NY and heading off to JFK. Hubby wanted me to see his grandma's former home, where he had so many fond childhood memories. We spotted this place, checked Yelp, saw Shepherd's Pie on the menu, and had to stop in--so glad we did! Of course, the Shepherd's Pie was on point! We also ordered the mozzarella sticks (yum!) and the baked clams (yum yum!). Our kid had the shrimp scampi and my husband ordered the shrimp parm. Everything was absolutely delicious, with generous portions and reasonable prices. Service was wonderful--our waitress was a lovely Irish lady who made us feel right at home. Bartender saw me and welcomed me only then to CUT HIMSELF off as a couple of local old guys were there and he just left me to go serve them!! One of the best places to have a great burger in Rockaway Beach. This establishment has been open and transition several times. Reestablishing itself post hurricane Sandy took a very long time. Food is dependable, fish and chips. Great burgers, steaks, pastas . Tuesday night there's two for one special on burgers. Dining room is separate from the bar, which can get very noisy because they always have sports on. I prefer a quiet room. Service and staff are friendly and accommodating. A friend who lives nearby suggested we try this place , let me just start by saying the hostess (Teresa) was the most pleasant person to be greeted by . The waitresses were nice but I felt like they were rushing us , so that wasn't very good . The food was ok but nothing out of this world , we tried the chicken teriyaki dumplings and they were cold in the middle , a big no no . Disappointing. The baker clams and the garlic Parmesan wings were good . We also ordered the salmon and that was good as well . Decor could use a little more effort . The Shepherd's Pie with Beef was OUTSTANDING & was the 1st meal I ever tried here that completely blew me away. And I never, ever eat beef. Wow. Thanks. Also an enormous thank you sincerely to the lady who always allows me to take the electric chair lift. I have many health issues that prevent a comfortable walk both up AND down steep stairs. It's scary for me and Harbor Light family takes care of me to make it easy for me. That's true Irish hospitality. The Harbor Light Pub is definitely a place that is home to many regulars. I was there just once but that's the impression I got. The decor is wood. It feels dated but cozy. The food was good. So we decide to come for a meal with a big contingent of six. Things had gotten off to a rocky start when my son decided to call to see if his husky could come after I made reservations. I had been persistent in requesting a table on the upper deck. When my son asked afterwards about the dog they said no at first. Since I no longer live in the area, this was my first time here since they re-opened. The place looks great and the food is even better than I remember. I was there with a group for lunch after a funeral and the service was excellent! Everyone in our group enjoyed their lunch and most of us left with doggy bags due to the generous portion sizes. Recently reopened. The place looks great, and retains much of the rustic look of the old harbor light, with reclaimed wood, sliding barn doors and rustic hanging lights. Very welcoming atmosphere. First time back since they reopened. I had the Shepard's pie, huge serving, piping hot, and enormously satisfying. The menu is definitely pub style, reasonably priced, and have nightly specials. Just like most of the places in Rockaway they only answer to the tunes of Johnny CA$H, but they have an ATM on-site. Polite and attentive staff. The only thing that I didn't like was walking through the bar to get to the dining Area, (maybe there is another way to get to the dining area?), and bathroom is down steep stairs. Harbor light pub has the potential to be a great resturant but fell way short. Started with the buffalo chicken dumplings. They were luke-warm and clearly a generic frozen plain dumpling splashed with generic buffalo sauce on top. Strangely enough they had a very strong taste of lemon and were really not good at all. It took about 40 minutes for the entree to come out after our appetizers, without getting our waters refilled or asked if we wanted another drink. For entrees we had the mahi fish tacos and the Sheppards pie. The fish tacos tasted like every other food that had been in the frier that day and were also luke-warm. We were unable to finish them. The shepherds pie tasted pretty good after letting it cool down a bit because it was scorching hot(not a bad thing). With that being said they had a decent sized party in the back and it was a busy Saturday, but that isn't an excuse for poor quality food. The place itself is cozy and well decorated but if the quality of food and attention to detail was better this place has potential. The best pub restaurant in Belle Harbor fish and chips is even better than the original store franchise FISH & CHIPS by far the service is excellent especially the owner Christine such a doll and aims to please all her customers. Came with my boyfriend on a Saturday night and the place was packed ! We had a reservation for 8:00 but arrived 15 minutes early so we went to the bar . The hostess spotted us and brought us to our seats by around 7:50. Living in Brooklyn there is an immense amount of restaurants and nightlife and bars in Rockaway choices are limited however what is around the neighborhood is some of the best food I've ever had. We've been waiting for harbor light to open for so long and it was well worth the wait ! This place is gorgeous from the rustic sliding doors to the central bar just beautiful . We ordered wings to start off with , great ! Can't mess up wings ( well you can but they didn't ) we then ordered a steak as well as the house salad. The steak was rich and mouthwatering each bite we paired it with creamed spinach , yum ! My salad was bigger than my face! Most places when you order a protein in a salad they typically don't give you enough however my salad was doused in shrimp and I loved it! Welcome back! So happy that Harbor Light is back. They are cash only, so come prepared. My friend and I got there while happy hour was still going on, so our mixed drinks were only $4.00. We went in for dinner and had a great server. I had stuffed shrimp with rice pilaf and creamed spinach. My friend ordered a broiled scallop special. When she told the server that she had never tried turnips, which was a veggie choice, the server brought her a small dish of them to try. At 67, she has a new veggie she likes. The food came out quickly. Service was great- we were checked on, but not rushed. The dessert choices looked good, but we didn't try any. We will be back. read more

Had a wonderful dinner with friends at Harbor Lights last night. Kristen our server was very sweet and helpful with all our menu questions. We ordered three appetizers to start and we were not disappointed. We had duck dumplings, buffalo chicken bites and the stuff mushrooms. Everything was so delicious. For dinner we ordered fish tacos with mango salsa, a red snapper special and grilled scallops. Everyone really enjoyed their meal!
