Passion fruit margarita
Shirrell H.

I was reluctant to try this place out. During the week happy hours are 11-1 and 4-6. The margaritas are 2 for 1 so I had the paasion fruit margarita and a classic and it did the job. I was shocked because located right in coney island i wasnt expecting to get such a strong drink. There's seating outside and in. Once the weather gets hotter I will return. The day I went last week I was freezing cold.

I came in the fall, after the off-season had begun and the rides close down at 6pm and most of the boardwalk is shuttered and deserted. I had no idea Coney got so dead before Halloween so I was just roaming around before a show at Freak Bar. I heard impossibly loud music coming from what seemed to be desolate lots of closed businesses and locked up rides. It was all female sad pop songs: Adele, Lana Del Ray, etc. I followed it to find Margarita Island - one of the only businesses open, blasting this music to anyone wandering by. There were very few people there, but the bar wasn't empty. Bartenders were friendly but not overly chatty. Baseball on the TV, large space heaters sprinkled around (the bar has one open wall facing the ocean). No complaints about my Corona. I wouldn't make it a destination, but they're open!

Was adventuring around Brooklyn and I refuse to go to Toms Coney Island for a drink (it's terrible) so I yelped "frozen margaritas" and BOOM Margarita Island popped up!! It was around 9pm on a Saturday night when we came. There's two sides of the bar. Left side is a tiki bar area and the right side where we came in is a regular bar with wooden booths and a few tables. They have FISH BOWLS ($30) & a huge variety of frozen and regular margaritas. Of course I ordered a Miami Vice (they are available in small, medium, or large) I got a large for $15. It was delicious and was pretty strong. I was a little buzzed off of one. My friend got a small frozen mango margarita and it was super strong! They play reggae music which I loveeeeee. Great vibes. Everyone's chill. I just wish this place was on the boardwalk next to the ocean. It would be perfect. But what's better than Reggae music and frozen margs in BK?!! Will definitely be back.

Stand near the street. It takes a few minutes as they prepare it fresh. Tip them. It looked like hard work.

3.5 Stars. We were drawn in by the fresh organic fruits they're were cracking open on the sidewalk and at the smaller tiki bar up front. Watermelons, coconuts and pineapples, oh my! $8 for coconut, $11 for pineapple and $12 for watermelon. Refills are half price and you can add a shot of rum to it at the bar inside! I think this concept on Coney Island is genius. It was a perfect treat on hot day! Both the guy cutting the fruit and what seemed like a manager I chatted with were both really nice! We sat down at the picnic tables under an umbrella outside. Refilled our our pineapple SEVERAL times and danced to the DJ spinning old school 90's dance hits. Songs I hadn't heard in forever! It was great! My little girls and I had a ball dancing. Hubs loved watch us get cray while drinking his beer. Yes, the music was loud. We loved it. Different music (rock and alternative) played inside. You can see the top of the Wonder Wheel from outside which I thought was kinda neat. We weren't there at night but they had light strands up ready to be lit. All sorts of people were hanging out....Bikini clad hunnies, older folks, newly 21 year old kids downing super sugary, calorie heavy drinks like Mermaid blue drinks, huge margaritas, electric lemonades etc. Dudes crushing basic beers like Coronas, waitresses dressed the way I hope my girls never want to, couples cuddling up, families. You name it. A spot for everyone. They serve food at the tiki bar outside. The kiddos had chips and guac for $7 they served in a to go container for easy beach travels. I did happen to see a sign on our table offering deep fried grilled cheese. Oh lord! So the bathroom IS gross. Super small and a wet floor. Yuck. It was July 4th so there was a ton of foot traffic in and out of the beach. Perhaps a pass for that? I dunno. I will commend them for having someone help keep the long lines moving to the unisex restrooms, making sure only patrons were using them. I should note that there were places to grab seats even on a holiday weekend. Hubs and I dig any bar we can bring our kiddos to! Just go ahead and call us "parents of the year". They have fun themed night like Hip Hop Thursdays, Industry Mondays etc. Divey? Yes. Totally. A place to duck out of the crowds and get your groove on while you grab a quick bite, some alcohol or in my case, some fresh fruit juice? Yes. P.S. Take note of the PYO (Protect Your Heart) art spray-painted on the ground by the entrance. Some people like to see how many of these they can grab a photo of.

Small raspberry and sour apple margarita! SO STRONG

kinda dead on a weekday but great place for cheap, strong drinks and music! We ordered $8 small drink and got so bombed lol. Place is also right by the beach, inside Luna park. Fun for before/afterwards. Will definitely be back!

Full Bar!

Good drinks and great music. Customer service is on point and the only thing that can mess this up is your timing and arriving when the frozen drink machines are being refilled. Bathrooms remind me of NYC 1992 in a good way....

Margaritas on ice

$7.50 decent sized margaritas that are strong and prepared quickly at the bar. What else can you ask for in a hole in the wall dive bar. No complaints from me.

Happy hour before the happy hours

Fight broke out at the bar. When trying to avoid the action, we were forced to pour out our beers. The bar would not replace them for us.

My daughter checked it out but she didn't have socks to play so she stayed at the table with us. For appetizers, we ordered the dumplings (so cute and delicious), the pancakes and the pizza. The pizza was mediocre. For our entrees I had the shrimp avocado salad and my husband got the gosht burger. Our entrees were really tasty. We also got a side of fries for our daughter which we didn't really have to order. It is a little pricey but look at their location! When we got the bill we were charged $10 for the play place. I asked for it to be removed because my daughter didn't really play there and didn't have socks so our waitress removed it. It's not a big playground area and how long can kids really ply there if they're there for the restaurant? They charge $10 on weekday and $15 on weekends.

We ordered out drinks first and I asked for the Mai Tai to please swap rum for tequila . He said he would ask. The cones back with some S.... and really fake story . I asked him is your bartender new? Over whelmed that he can't do it? And he stumbled with his excuse i asked to speak to the manager . When manager came and gave the excuse with to many people arrived at same time WHICH was a lie since I looked right over his shoulder and game him the bs Look. He then said we ordered a specified amount of things for the drinks and alcohol we have in hand . I said okay forget it . Later on he said here you go we made one for you and it's free of charge realized they were not doing things how they should have been. We ordered the food and that started to come. The burger was highly recommended. Bronzino was really good ( flavors / doneness/ the look and just perfect) The lobster escargot was great as well perfect amount of garlic and nice chunks of lobster as well. The toast were cheap and just wonder bread like . And I like to dip my bread . And the burger was the biggest waste of 26$ for a burger . The burg e bun was triple the size of the burger itself.they ask you how would you want your burger cooked but the burger is too thin to be cooked to anything but well done. Chicken schnitzel so good, vegetables crisp and perfectly grilled, and the vinaigrette on my salad couldn't have been better! But I'm not done. As much as I enjoyed lunch there are things I'd like to point out: ### The lunch special is advertised as four courses. Rather than "courses" they might say "components." First comes soup, then your entree plated with salad and a choice of sides. If the salad was served separately, they could claim three courses. But four is a stretch. ### I ordered the cold borscht listed on the menu. (There are different variations.) They gave me hot. If it wasn't so good -- it really was delicious -- I would have asked them to switch it up. ### Lunch was advertised at $20 but we were charged $19. ($19 is obviously preferable, but numbers should be consistent.) They tack on 18% service plus a credit card up-charge -- which we've come to expect. ### I'd normally order a cold glass or wine. BUT .... with wine almost the same price as lunch, I said "no way!" When the manager, a very nice gentleman, asked how we enjoyed our meals, I suggested serving a specially-priced house wine $8-$10, to go with lunch. Nope. I didn't understand the rationale, but he said it would encourage under-age drinkers. (The only customers i saw were old folks and young families!) Other than neighboring Tatiana, cafes that were here years before are gone. Azure is good. Maybe a smidge short of five stars, but good enough for me to think about a return visit. While I never knew borscht could be prepared hot, I'm now going to seek it out. Give it a try!

We stopped at this cute spot while at the beach. The menu, pricing, and ordering system...a lot of…read morethings...seemed kind of confusing. Then we learned they had just opened so that was understandable; I'm guessing these things will get sorted out soon! Sorry I don't have specific details like the names of the dishes. They have a 4-course lunch, I think it was $24. A soup, a main, salad, and a side. There were 4 of us. We each chose a different soup and there were still several other soups on the menu that we didn't try. They were delicious! Everything we had was fantastic. Lots of fresh flavors; really nicely prepared. I think it is Ukrainian food but maybe there are other influences as well. At $24, the lunch was a good deal. However, there was an additional 18% charge (not a tip though, that was extra).I don't know if it was some kind of tax (we are not from the area so I don't know if this is typical). I am also not sure how much the drinks cost, I think they might have been higher than at other places. But we were on vacation! It is a nice place, on the beach. I liked that there were some little tables basically ON the beach, and there was a lovely covered patio/bar area (that's where we sat - we were a little sandy but they assured us it wasn't a problem). There was also a proper indoor dining area but I believe that is for people who are wearing clothing and not just swimwear. Bathrooms are inside, down some stairs, a railing is loose but I'm assuming that will be fixed - it's a nice place. Everyone working there was so sweet and helpful. Even though the menu and the whole ordering system was fairly daunting for all of us, they were really trying their best. These things will get worked out, I'm confident. You just might want to verify prices of things before you order if that might be a concern. It's also a hookah bar, a customer near us was smoking. It smells lovely, not at all like tobacco or other smokeables. Everything was great. I was pleasantly surprised by a sauce that came on the side of the chicken kebab - it was really spicy. The main dishes were delicious; substantial and filling and it was perfect to have the salad and the grilled vegetable sides (or fries). In my opinion the soups were the absolute stars though and I would love if they served them in flights!
