This place is nice for dinner and drinks for a small group. The scallops I had were delicious and buttery, and I enjoyed the accompanying gnocchi. I was able to order mojitos off the menu, a nice bonus (you'd be surprised how many places around here don't have mint). My friend's drink, the Crime of Passion, was definitely interesting but not at all to our taste. Perhaps perfect if you're really into the one-two punch of chili salt and tequila. Waitstaff checked in quite often, which was funny because my friend had seen reviews that they weren't attentive enough. I didn't mind either way but we were definitely asked how we were doing appropriately. It was raining so we didn't get much out of the rooftop aspect, but you CAN put in a deposit on an outdoor igloo for a group. This review is for their brunch only. Mare Rooftop is Rhode Island's first rooftop restaurant. The restaurant is relatively new, opening in June of this year. Originally, it opened at 4pm with dinner service daily. Brunch was introduced on the weekend in early October. We decided to visit on their first day of offering brunch at 10am. We arrived about 20 minutes after they opened and were seated immediately. We were the only table besides a group of four. The restaurant is beautiful with the natural light. You're surrounded by glass walls and tinted glass on the ceiling. My only concern would be the loud noise caused by any rain. Lol Since it was the first weekend for brunch, I expected some quirks to occur. I watched three chefs periodically look at tickets and discuss how to prepare dishes. One chef was guiding the other two. I was a little worried about the food at this point. It took about 20 minutes for our food to arrive. I was relieved at the sight of my dish. The brioche french toast was plated beautifully. The Nutella came in a tiny boat, extra sauce on the plate, and a side of fruit. And the taste... Delicious! I almost ordered it again right after! The bread was soft, the banana stuffing was sweet, the fruit was fresh. The candy pecans were okay, but the rest of the plate was perfect. The description stated chocolate shavings, but I do not believe mine had any on top. My boyfriend ordered the eggs benedict. The potato hash was a mix of white and sweet potatoes. He enjoyed it, but would try something else next time. I definitely want to come back for that french toast and try their dinner menu. Located on the trendy East Side of Providence, our Uber dropped us off but they have complimentary valet as well as parking across the street. We took The elevator up to the top floor and we were warmly greeted by a lovely hostess. She told us we had about 20 minutes wait for a table for the outside. The bar was packed. Granted this was a Saturday night around 9 PM I was already familiar with the menu since I looked at it before going there. This place is called Mare for a reason. It's seafood-based. Mare means the "sea" in Italian. I just wanted to sample a couple of things. So I chose the grilled octopus and also the short rib. My friend chose the crabcakes. This short rib consisted of watercress salad and onion rings with balsamic reduction. The watercress salad was very bland. I think they forgot to put any kind of seasoning on it. But the short rib was amazing. I had never had grilled octopus but I must say this dish was out of this world. It came with a Fava Bean puree with a black garlic emulsion..Whatever that means LOL Biting into this octopus was so amazing. It had the greatest subtle crunch and then so tender. It was so delicious. I wish they would have given more. (15.00 little pricey imo) My friend ordered the crabcakes which had a mango chutney chive oil and a smoked Paprika Roumelade. They were pretty small but she said they were good. These items were all considered Starters and were $15.00 per plate. Our server was Kimberlee and she was GREAT! She even gave me her awesome pen that lights up while signing the check (ok I asked her if I could keep it cause I'm shameless). It was a great experience. Only thing missing was some low key music. This place is pretty rad. It's classy casual, if that's a thing, and lacks the pretentious atmosphere of the Providence G. Pros: The vibe The view (although there's a wall on the north side that blocks the sunset...kind of a bummer) The crab cakes The pizza The server J (she's super nice) The olive oil. I had a feeling it was Greek and according to J, my suspicions were correct. Cons: The price (to be expected, but specifically): the cocktails, which taste GREAT, have suuuuper low alcohol content. I don't want to pay $14 to drink fancy juice; serving sizes especially for the apps are quite small. $14 for three half-dollar sizes crab cakes --albeit, they are delicious. The service, especially getting our drink orders taken and delivered, was pretty slow despite the restaurant being about 1/3 full. Will I be back? Oh yeah. Will I drink wine? Oh yeah. I like it, I think I do.....Nice swanky place, easy parking - lot adjacent to the building (same building as Washington Trust/Tropical Smoothie Cafe). The entrance itself was a bit confusing as we didn't see any signs pointing out where the restaurant is, so we walked passed all the other places to the corner (Corner of Wayland and Waterman) and there was an entrance through the door and THEN that's when we saw a sign and receptionist pointing out the location. Elevator to top floor and voila, we arrived! The place is swanky and aesthetically pleasing with plenty of seating. Extremely mixed crowd - anywhere from grandma/grandpa to Kim Kardashian wannabes. Def great spot for after work crowds. It wasn't very crowded when we arrived but no seats available at the bar. The bar was about the only spot we felt any air conditioning - it was really hot that day, we opted for indoor dining. Very extensive wine list that has smaller and larger pour options. We started with calamari which was really good (just about every table ordered calamari too!) and burrata salad - fresh and tasty. We ordered two different pizzas (can't remember which ones now). One was similar to a Margherita and the other had veggies on it. We asked for no olives but the pizza came with it - just picked them off. Our waitress offered to have them make a new one but we said it was fine. Pizzas were good but not the best I've had. It was so warm that night, we were actually sweating - that's one downfall of outdoor dining, you can't control Mother Nature. Although we weren't outside, all of the retractable windows were open, it got busier and with the sun beating down through the skylight, it was not a good look for us. I have to say, our waitress was amazing! Super cute and friendly and so apologetic for every little mishap - all of which wasn't her fault. Drinks too way too long, we asked for no olives and our pizza had olives. I would def come back, great spot to hang out but would prob wait for less hot and humid weather to do so. read more

The setting is very nice, ample, roomy, bright and well laid out. The downstair entrance NOW has a Mare Rooftop sign, so people can find the entrance much quicker. The service is a bit slow. We asked for the check a certain way and it took 3 tries for the waitress to get the check right...and....like 15 minutes later. The food was not bad. This place is one of the best seafood restaurants I've been to! Came here for my younger sister's birthday and I have to say, we loved every part of our visit. From the extremely attentive waiter, to the delicious food and quiet but refreshing summer outdoor ambiance, could not have asked for a better location. We heard all about the chef but wasn't impressed. They have gorgeous pizza oven but margarita pizza was blah with not much flavor at all. I had some fancy sounding $26 chicken dinner which was basically a dry fried chicken cutlet with a light drizzle of some sort on top that tasted like a dry fried chicken cutlet with no flavor. Mare Rooftop is the Top of the Hub of Providence, but more hip and with higher quality food. This place is a gem. Brought my parents and sister and brother in law for my sister's 30th birthday. It was the perfect spot. The drink menu is diverse and covers just about everything with some amazing and refreshing concoctions. On the food front we had the filet mignon, paella, salmon and bolognese...and all were excellent. We did not have dessert from the restaurant as we had brought our own cake from Rainbow Bakery in Cranston (pardon the shameless plug!!!). Excellent spot, excellent service (thank you Rob). I stopped by Mare Rooftop with some friends on the 4th of July and we were met with wonderful views of the Providence skyline. When we arrived there was definitely some confusion with the staff members saying we couldn't go up to the rooftop because all reservations were full even though we were just meeting some other people (who were already upstairs) and grabbing some drinks. The decor of the restaurant was fantastic and on a beautiful evening the rooftop really is a perfect location. Their beer menu is small and the food seemed a bit overpriced, but overall we had a great experience. I would definitely recommend going in for appetizers and giving their prosciutto and arugula pizza a try. If you're planning to stay for a full meal I would make sure you check on the prices online prior to arriving. read more

This gem of a restaurant is on the east side of Providence and offers wonderful views of the skyline. But a good view isn't the only reason to come to Mare Rooftop; the extensive menu with expertly cooked meals is the main reason. On the advice of our excellent server Josh C., I ordered the chicken scallopini and excellent doesn't begin to cover it. I wasn't overly hungry, but it was so good, I finished the whole plate. My friends had the scallops and the eggplant and they were equally impressed. The drinks we had were a bit weak and the size a bit small for the price. Hopefully management will rectify that. The interior is beautifully decorated and I enjoyed looking up at the glass roof and watching the rain hit it. I look forward to coming back and trying the other dishes. read more

We came for lunch on a Saturday without a reservation. For parties of 6 or more, they require a $100 deposit; but the restaurant was quite empty so it was not an issue for us. The space itself is beautiful, food is competently cooked if somewhat standard, the prices are average to above average for comparable restaurants but the big sticking point for me at this restaurant is there is definitely no sugar with the service, which is pretty negligent and slow--not from malice or bad intentions, but just from lack of experience and poor training. I've had many better experiences eating out at similar restaurants in PVD. It's a shame bc Mare is only one of a very few number of restaurants in this town that has enough elbow room to host a big party with a nice outdoor space. 3 stars bc the people were nice and it's a good option for picky, conservative eaters, but for someone that expects service as good as the food, I've certainly had better. read more

We really enjoyed our recent dinner celebrating two birthdays with four adults and two young kids. The wait staff was very accommodating with our under-10 crowd. Although they don't have a children's menu, the basic Margherita pizza was a hit with our grandkids, and the adults in our group loved their various selections (a wonderful tomato soup, oysters, and three fish dishes and a steak dish). We'd intended to eat outdoors (because of unvaccinated kids). As it happened, it had rained recently, and the outdoor chairs were still damp, but we felt comfortable eating indoors because two sets of doors to the outdoor dining area were kept open, providing a decent amount of circulating air. Enjoyed some excellent pizza (both the Capricciosa and Prosciutto & Arugula) featuring fresh ingredients, perfect amount of flavor, and soft, fluffy dough. Also had the Crispy Pork Belly, which was OK--wasn't very crispy, and tasted more like fancy pulled pork. I really was impressed by all of the food quality here. This was my first time dining at the Mare Rooftop and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere & the food quality. We did have quite later time reservations, 9:45, but we were seated promptly. The server was nice although didn't seem to tend to us much, we were ready to order quickly, waited a bit a few times but everything we ordered was correct and came out just the way we wanted it! Overall, the service was good & would have loved to see more fig flavor get featured on that pizza, however everything was delicious and i would love to experience this restaurant again and would recommend to others. Little did they know I'm an avid Yelper...the food was good and I liked the Roasted Brussels Sprouts. However, the service overall was terrible, our waiter showed up 3 times (generously) and didn't offer bread or a light when it got dark out (yet the manager brought out all the bare necessities to the table next to us: bread, LIGHT, heat!! They also brought our cappuccinos we ordered w our water 45 mins later. Older customers or people they perceived as wealthy and VIPish were blatantly treated better. I work in a high end restaurant as a hostess in Connecticut and have always been told to treat ALL guests equally despite they're status at the restaurant.
