Finding a new home and moving into said home is always a difficult transition, but thankfully Kim and Rowena from Marcus Property Management definitely made it a lot easier than I had anticipated. From start to finish, the process was fairly quick. Within two weeks of applying for the rental, I was able to secure the unit and schedule my move in date. Kim especially, was accommodating of my work schedule to view the new unit. When I expressed some concerns I had, she was also quick to offer me other properties Marcus manages to view as well. Rented an apartment for 6 years in town while my sons attended private school 2 minutes walking distance away! The building is definitely older with all the problems that one with that, but the price was right & property manager Arnette always responded promptly to calls, texts, and emails. Very professional & flexible when I needed to update my end-of-lease timing. She is always pleasant and helpful! Marcus Property emergency after-hours phone line also responded in a timely manner. Encountered no issues with mailing in my rent payment during Covid restrictions. Unfortunately I had a negative experience with this company and the Landlord Arnette was not a good ambassador for the company. Family lived in a rental property for over a year and the was a lack of professionalism with the landlord from the onset. Unfortunately, we had few options and needed to get family into a place quickly, so I did bot have the luxury of continuing my search. Arnette caters to a nosy Karen who lives in the back house and seems to run tenants out regularly, which was why the apartment was vacant to begin with. Rather than deal with the problem tenant, Arnette hounds the new tenants until they leave. I am not a person who finds pleasure in writing negative reviews but I would caution anyone thinking about entering into a contract with a property being managed by Arnette. She is a bully who hides behind the annoying rear tenants idol complaints. Also, no matter how well you keep the place clean, you won't get your deposit back either. Use caution. read more

Marcus was one of the best larger property management companies that I worked with. The staff was always professional and communication was never an issue. In the beginning of the lease, I had a few things that needed to be looked at (e.g. Washer/Dryer) and their maintenance team sent someone so quickly to look at it! Unfortunately, I had to break the last few months of my lease due to a pretty unexpected situation... Kim and her team went over and beyond to help me and I could not have been so appreciative of her kindness and professionalism. These people are absolute scum. We came to view an apartment, and Rowena did not show up. We called her, and she had forgotten the appointment, so we waited for her to drive over. We toured the apartment, and before leaving, we told her our income and credit scores, and she indicated that should be fine. She acted nice, but it was only an act. When we went to apply, we had to pay $28 per adult, and I had forgotten my credit file was locked. When I went to unlock it, they informed us that they would have to charge BOTH of us AGAIN to run our credit file. Um what??? That makes NO SENSE. But, because she had indicated our income and credit scores would be okay, we bit the bullet and paid AGAIN. Then she called me to say she didn't like a particular debt on my credit - I have been approved for financing a BMW and our scores are good enough for a mortgage - not great but good enough - and she has the nerve to nitpick over a credit card. The fact that we included a recommendation letter from our previous landlord saying we paid faithfully for over 3 years didn't matter. She was rude and actually said the words "Yeah, the thing is, I'd love to rent the unit out, but we're not that desperate." BITCH. She was so judgmental and rude as soon as she decided we were not good enough to rent to, EVEN AFTER WE TOLD HER our scores and income and she said that was fine. We would not have paid TWICE to apply to this place if we thought they would nitpick like this. Of course you're not "DESPERATE" when you scam people who are just trying to find a place to live. I don't understand how people aren't ashamed to be hoarding housing especially during A PANDEMIC. Absolute scumbags. I've rented two apartments from Marcus Property Management and have never had a problem. The first property was in Salt Lake and they were able to lower the listed rent into my budget. The second property was in Honolulu on Ward Ave. I have a dog so it's very difficult to find pet friendly units and both were well-maintained pet-friendly apartments! The first apartment I rented for about 3 years and the second apartment I rented for 5 years, so I have a very long history with this company. Each year, they require an inspection and someone comes to take photos and notes on the apartment's wear and tear. The first apartment I lived at raised the rent by $50 at some point but the second apartment that I lived in for 5 years did not have the rent raised ever. I've had my refrigerator and A/C break and they repaired it relatively quickly. It's always a pain to have to be at home for repairs and deliveries, but the work got done. I was never charged for anything. There were a few occasions where the company said I was late on my rent (I have auto bill pay through my bank) so I didn't think this was the case. They'd send letters saying I'd be charged but it was easily cleared up and they never charged me for anything once the check arrived. Moving out was a breeze. They send you a checklist of everything you could be billed for to ensure that you get your security deposit back. They recommend companies that they've worked with in the past so I made sure to use them. I forgot to have the floors professionally cleaned because they were laminate and I thought it only applied to carpet or hardwood so they deducted that from my security deposit and made that clear upon checkout. I also felt that the amount deducted wasn't markedup by any means and was a fair price. I was happy to receive a check for the remainder of my prorated rent and the majority of my security deposit. I highly recommend this company. I saw the other 2 negative reviews but I couldn't disagree more. I don't expect my landlord to take care of me when I lock myself out of my apartment so maybe it's an issue with expectations. read more

I used Marcus Property Management to rent my new apartment in Oahu, and they were by far the best real estate company I've ever worked with! Finding an apartment in Hawaii was difficult (I looked at over 20 apartments), until I met Arnette Ishikawa at my showing. She was immediately attentive and invested in all our living needs, and treated me with respect, care, and professionalism. Renting an apartment usually takes 3-5 days, but they did it in less than 2 because of the quick work of Arnette and Kim's work in the office. The application was easy because Arnette helped every step of the way, and when I turned my application into the office, Kim processed it immediately. They're amazing. They are not for the people of Hawaii. I had the absolute worst experience trying to rent from them ever in my whole life. The whole application process was an extreme waste of my time and money. There were 4-5 different people asking me for the same information that I had already sent out not only in the application but through email and text. They were extremely lacking communication between each other and me. They lead me to believe I would get the house because I make 4x the rent and I am overqualified. 1 week later after me pressing them to at least tell me if I need to move on or get an air bnb before I become homeless, I get a call from someone whom I never spoke to before and he told me I did not get the place because it is not a good fit. He was super passive-aggressive and would not explain to me why I did not get the approval to move in. I would not recommend trying to rent from such an unorganized and money-oriented place. They are not a business for the people of Hawaii. They did not care that I would be homeless. Super disappointed.... read more

Arnette Ishikawa was our property manager for 1 year while we rented an apartment in Kakaako. Unfortunately, a month after moving in, we were told we would have to leave once our lease expired due to the owners deciding to sell the property. Arnette was very apologetic and helpful in helping us through this, as we were very disappointed in the turn of events. She was very responsive throughout the year, and made moving out very easy. I wish I could give this place zero stars... worst company I have EVER been through for trying to rent an apartment. Especially if you are in a tight spot and are in a time crunch... they don't care. At all. But anyway A roomate and myself went to a showing for this company; they were 20 minutes late to the showing but we ended up liking the unit so within 30 minutes of the showing we submitted our applications and waited... heard nothing, so we continued to email and call to check on our application since we were told from the beginning that it would only take 2-3 business days to hear... no answers for over 5 days.. the most I received during this was an email saying they were checking with our previous landlords and should know by the end of the day that day.. 7 days later we receive a phone call that our applications were approved but the unit we applied for was already given away??? Not sure how you are approved for a place that is already gone... but we were, and then were offered a different place, in a slum, more expensive, and not in the area we wanted at all... so our business is definitely taken elsewhere... this company is a joke and these people don't have their tenants best interest at heart. I would look elsewhere before EVER trying to go through this company because you'd get more feedback about what you're looking for from a brick wall. read more

I had to terminate my lease early due to relocating, she was great at explaining what I had to do and it made our transition easier. She was available for questions and always responded to my calls and emails. I've lived in the apartment for more than 2 years and the office staff is always friendly and answered any questions I had. I didn't get the name of the front desk staff, but she always greeted everyone with a smile and it was so easy paying my rent every month. Stay away from this management company. I have been renting an apartment for over then 2 years. My lease expires next mont and I can wait to leave. You sign up a lease for six months only. You can't sign up for a year. In general most properties in Hawaii lease for six months or a year and after that is a month to month rent. And your rent doesn't go up for few years. Here is a different story-every six months your rent goes up with $25. Guaranteed. When you sing up your first lease you are told that they don't increase you rent-only if market price goes up. In Hawaii rent is very high and it doesn't go up for years as long as you pay rent on time. Once my wife by mistake locked the door and our keys were inside the apartment. After calling Markus property management I was informed that it's my responsibility to call lock&smith or other company to unlock my apartment-that's is in our lease agreement. That pleasure cost me $200 to call a company to unlock our door. Markus property has keys for each apartment but they don't care for the tenants. What kind of company is that not to come and unlock your apartment? In case I offered to go and get a key from them just to unlock the dower and return it to them. They don't care for their tenants at all. Last month I was charge $62 cause I requested my sing to be cleaned-there were hair inside the drain. You pay for every maintenance you request-even though you didn't damage anything and it's not your case at all. When I called to request to clean my bathroom sink drain nobody informed me that I will be charged for that or how much it will cost me . The bill came a week later.. it's always tenant responsibility with Markus management property. I talked to GM Norman Noguchi and he seems he doesn't care too about $62 charge. I'll pay it with my next and last rent and goodbye. Prices are not bad there but half of the apartments are always empty, cause of the poor management and because there are many robberies. My apartment war robbed once in two years. My neighbor was robbed twice in two months-Two different tenants in the same apartment. Apartment upstairs was robbed too. That's all in two years period.My personal opinion-don't go to live there. I have never seen that bad landlord ever like Markus property management. read more
