We tried a variety, and while the filling were good the donuts were dry. Very disappointed for the price.

I don't usually post about experiences I've had at stores. But I feel it extremely necessary to to put this out there. The good and the bad. I've been in customer service almost 25 years. I preordered donuts at Marcella's doughnuts & bakery. I think they're donuts are great! I've had many great experiences with the staff there, including prior owner, Marcie Poole and more recently, her grandson whom she sold the business to, Tristan Meholick. First, I'll give a story from a few weeks ago where we ordered some kettle danish that they don't always have. We hadn't had it in a long time. That day I missed the fact that they tried to called me the morning I was to pick them up and let me know that they weren't ready because the one person that makes them, didn't make it in that evening. When I went into the store the associate at they counter was very apologetic and I was very understanding. She offered me a free dozen for the inconvenience and we set the date for getting the donuts I had ordered for the following weekend. The following weekend I went in to pick up the donuts and the gentleman, Tristan Meholick, part owner, was extremely nice and helpful and thanked me also for being so understanding and considerate. I left a happy customer even with the other issue. Now for the not so good. For my daughter's Birthday, she requested donuts, so I placed an order and told the associate that I would pick them up before they closed at noon and she told me that she would put it down for 11:30 so they'd be ready when I got there. So I arrived this past Saturday at 11:45 at their Amelia Store and it was closed. I had no missed calls from them and obviously no voicemail messages since I had no missed calls. I became frantic, as any mother would, that my daughter wasn't going to get what she wanted for her birthday. I began calling every one of their locations an messaged them on Facebook Messenger to no avail. I noticed a vehicle was there so I went and knocked several times on the back door with no answer. I finally decided I was going to have to take it as a loss and go somewhere else last minute. Then their delivery truck pulled in. The part owner, Cory Meholick, let me in after I told him I had been waiting for donuts I had ordered and paid for. I explained that I was unhappy that they closed and that no one called me to let me know. I had to repeat this because upon his insistence, the called (they didn't or if they tried, they called the wrong number). Then he repeated to me that the order was for 11:30 as to put the blame on me. He then explained to me that certain things I wanted written on them weren't done and he would refund me only $3 for not doing the writing!!!! He did explain it didn't look right, which I can understand. I asked why they didn't call me then to let me know and the response I got was a shrug. Then part owner, Carmen Meholick came in and told me I was an unruly customer who caused problems a few weeks ago (apparently due to the problem that happened the first time but was handled well, by co-owner, Tristan Meholick). They just choose to go without any Happy Birthday and to not even attempt to call and see if I would be happy with something slightly different (maybe one word per donut would have sufficed). I was appalled at the way I was treated. They also told me they don't care if they lose customers. I asked specifically if they cared about losing me as a customer, because I've been a good customer, and the owners exact words were, and rudely I might add, "we don't care if we lose you as a customer." Carmen then told me I needed to leave because they were closed, rudely I might add. Yes their donuts are good but I was shocked at my experience this most recent time. Who calls their customers names and is rude to them especially when unwarranted. Such a shame customer service and just simply caring isn't top priority anymore. Carmen and Cory Meholick only made the situation worse. They have so much to learn about taking care of customers and taking ownership of their own mistakes. read more

This is the best donut place in the area. The service was phenomenal. A true American, a shining light in a time of darkness. Only $14 for a bakers dozen. An amazing deal for high quality donuts. Go here for all your donut needs. read more

The donuts are great and the owner is awesome. She's always there friendly and helpful. I would say though, eat the donuts same day ...by the next day they are getting stale. (They probably don't use preservatives.) read more

Well worth getting up early for. Since I had never been, I had the woman working there pick some out for me. It was perfect. I brought them to work and everyone feel in love with them. The smell alone was to die for. The selection is just as amazing as the doughnuts themselves. I'm definitely going to be back. The only bad thing is, it's 5min down the street from me so I will have to test my restraint for my waistline's sake. read more

Holtman donut fans, rejoice... they cloned, spun off, split off, whatever... this place is legit. ... they have early hours, and all three locations have different hours, so check online, and they do close early if they sell out, but are totally worth it. You won't find a better donut on the east side. I'll drive 20 minutes here, but I won't drive 20 minutes to holtman's... look at this belly... would it lie? read more

This is my new favorite donut shop. Kristy cream is too sweet and Dunkin' Donuts are stale and hard by the next morning. I purchased 6 regular donuts and had to save 4 for the next day and they were still soft and delicious. Possibly because they are made fresh the night before. Anyone that says the donuts are stale or hard.. maybe staff made a bad batch that day, but I have been pleasantly satisfied with the taste and texture after 3 separate visits. I am not a cake fan, but the cake donuts are good. The specialty donuts are a real treat. My kids picked these donuts over any place else. Customer service was good! But please get there early because they do sell quickly. $6.50 for half dozen is a good price. I sent my husband out to get more considering I just had a baby and I can't stop eating sugar! read more

Heard about this place from some bodybuilder friends. This was the first thing they wanted to eat post competition after months of dieting. I wasn't disappointed, other donuts just don't compare. First, the doughnuts...are magical. You walk in and there is a long display case filled with art made with the sweet, fried dough that we love so much! They are absolutely stunning to look at and they are incredibly creative! Want a Cronut (part croissant part doughnut)? Well they have it! Want a Maple Bacon doughnut? Oh, they have it. But the list goes beyond my ability to explain! Some look like they have breakfast cereal sprinkled on them, tons of flavors from Red Velvet, to Maple. Blueberry & Cherry Fritters (Oh, they are devine!) are a specialty offered from time to time on weekends. They are constantly creating and trying new things. My go to are the Fritters. Crispy and amazing. And if you don't plan ahead...you might show up at 8am and they are out because someone will come in and literally buy them all (yep, it's happened to me too!) So, they offer a 'call ahead service' where you can place an order like the day before for ones you really love and tell them the day and time you need them and they will have them ready for you when you arrive (Whaaaat?! Now that's thinking about your customers!) The service is wonderful. The lady behind the counter will absolutely make your morning! She's kind and sweet and eager to make sure that you have exactly what you need and always with a smile! By now, she even knows me by name (that likely proves that I go more often than I should) - but everything in moderation, right? They have locations on Clough Pike, in Amelia and Eastgate within Cincinnati currently but I assume they will eventually take over the world. Stop by...you'll be so glad that you did! read more

Absolutely amazing donuts. Definitely some of the best around. The selection is great, too, as long as you go early. If there's one negative about this place it's that they sell out quickly every day (especially on the weekends)! Try to get in early if you want the most variety. You will not be disappointed. They're dense and delicious donuts - the icing melts in your mouth, the glaze is flavorful without being overly sweet. Definitely stop by - and help support a local business! The best doughnuts in Cincinnati! I like Holtman's, but I think Marcella's is much better. I have been twice (so far). First visit I got an orange doughnut. It was like a Hostess orange cupcake, but a million times better. The second time I got a pumpkin spice donut. Both were amazing! The Clough Pike location is in a strip mall. It has three booths and two small tables (end tables with comfy chairs next to them). The coffee isn't bad either, which was a nice surprise. The people behind the counter are friendly and happy to answer questions about the donuts. I look forward to my next visit! read more

I love donuts and Holtmans so wanted to love it but ... I tried 3 or 4 of their donuts today, yeast twist, regular glazed, chocolate long john etc. They were not very fresh and tasted a little greasy. The dough was a bit odd too...not very yeasty..more cake like. I didn't get to the shop until 11 or so on Friday morning and they had been busy but these tasted more than day old to me. I'm likely to try them again and hoping that maybe they will be fresher next time. Buskins would have been so much better. read more

There is nothing that will break your heart more...than standing in line and watching someone ahead of you order the last one of your very favorite doughnut variety! (For me, I am addicted to their Fritters!) My weekend coffee time just screams for Marcella's Doughnuts. Thankfully, everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) they make is just incredible...so even if I do not get my fritter, I will leave with a smile and something delicious! Some of the best donuts going! Definitely a HUGE fan of all their regular donuts, but I don't bother with their filled donuts...too big and lacking a certain something. Hence the loss of one star. Overall a great place to enjoy a sugar bomb! read more
