Our regulat donut place seemed to miss the mark this time. We went mid morning and the choices were abundant. However, the donuts were just okay. The custard was weak, as if something was missing, and the cake donuts seemed stale. Had this been our first visit I'm not sure we'd go back. $28 after tip for a dozen mediocre donuts? Yesterday, my brother and his girlfriend took me to Holtman's donut shop for the first time and it was an absolute dream. There was a giant line out the door because their donuts are fantastic. We arrived around 11 o'clock which is late apparently because I saw some donuts on here and the ones that I got were not as elaborate but still yummy. Hooray! After driving by and wishfully hoping they would open, I saw a sign outside their door today and someone behind the counter! Of course I had to stop by. Nothing beats the smell of freshly made donuts. Mmm!! Like the other locations I've visited, they have plenty of selection and nice people to help you satisfy your donut fix. My favorite is still their apple fritter which usually sells out if you go later in the day. If you're one who doesn't want to take chances with your donut flavor being sold out, you can order online at least 24 hours in advance and pick up at this location. They also have special donuts for special occasions at times too... like Mother's Day. They have parking that is much easier to find than in OTR. This Oakley location reminds me of the Westchester shop as it has seating and space to hang out. It's gorgeous and inviting inside. Of course, we can't enjoy the seating space or meet up here right now because of COVID19 but this is great for future visits. So glad this small business and Cincy favorite opened its doors for customers as the city slowly relaxes the shelter in place. We all could use some joy and what better than a fantastic donut spot within walking or running distance in the Oakley/Hyde Park/Pleasant Ridge area. read more

My two daughters were served here today and the service was terrible. They were waited on by Jessica with the pink and purple hair which explains the lack of professionalism. They were repeatedly told to hurry up, and speak up even though there was no one else in the store at the time. I went in to speak to the young lady, quite civilly, and to obtain a receipt which was not given to the girls. Great donuts and tons of options to choose from! I finally checked out this local donut joint I've heard so much about and it did not disappoint. There were SO MANY different donuts. It was excitingly overwhelming and I ended up getting way more donuts than planned/than needed haha My favorite was the regular chocolate frosted with sprinkles! I show up, give them my name and they have no donuts for me. Girl at the register checks with another person who says sorry, nothing. We play the name game for a minute or two and they figure it out. This is not the end of the world. I get that. However. If you encourage people to place orders online, you've gotta have a system in place that works and gets folks in and out fast. Apple fritter was super duper delish. Reminded me of the fritters back home in the 650. Not as good though. Maple bacon was okay. The toppings were flavorful, but the actual donut was not very good. We happened to pass by this shop and I immediately remembered how badly I wanted to visit the Downtown location which is now closed. I am SO HAPPY we went in. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and so so so sweet! I tend to be picky about my donuts especially because I prefer cake donuts (yes, I know I am in the minority). We were able to snag a half dozen of different donuts and had a great mix. When we got home, I realized the donuts were larger than they looked in the case... not a problem at all. They were DIVINE. We got the Creme Brûlée donut (a must!), espresso donut, blueberry filled with icing, and a dunk bar. I wish I would've gotten a whole dozen of just the dunk bars... they were so crunchy on the outside and moist and not overly sweet on the inside. Where Satan gets his sugar fix. First of all, the doughnuts are massively overrated. They are overfried, and get their reputation off the toppings rather than the donut itself, which tastes dry and burnt. The coffee was undrinkable-had a weird sour aftertaste that wouldn't go away, even with massive amounts of cream and sweetner. Then, the restaurant itself is AWFUL. A large, cavernous store with tile floor and cement walls. Zero sound absorption which insures that all the noise from the screaming uncontrolled children of the yuppies from Crossroads Church gets echoed and amplified to 1000. The staff can't hear you and you can't hear them, and none of the donuts are labeled what they are, so hope you know what you wanted in advance. Getting in and out of the place is also a traffic nightmare. Go anywhere, absolutely anywhere else for a fun Sunday morning treat. read more

Best donuts in the city! I was so excited what they were opening up a shop in Oakley! I enjoyed going to the one in OTR, but it always seemed packed full of people and I always felt rushed since the area to order is so small. The Oakley location is HUGE. There is plenty of room to walk around the case and see what different types of donuts of they have. One of my favorite parts about Holtman's is their funky flavors they come up with. Holtman's in Oakley is one of only a few places here in Cincinnati that serve vegan donuts, and they are GOOD. Unfortunately, the service I got today was NOT. Actually, that's putting it mildly. The woman who waited on me acted as if I were her worst enemy and that someone was forcing her at gunpoint to give me my freaking donuts and take my money. I don't appreciate being treated this way, and I won't go back. When you drop $20 for a dozen donuts, is it too much to expect the person who's working there to at least greet you, speak to you with a modicum of civility, maybe even make eye contact, and smile? Holtman's was recommended to us and I am SO GLAD we decided to stop in (even after the OTR location was closed Monday and Tuesday, the only days we were in Cincinnati). I'm happy we drove a bit further anyway and got to try these donuts! We tried several varieties of the blueberry donut -- the plain blueberry, maple glaze, and maple glaze with bacon. The blueberry base was absolutely delicious, such a fresh flavor. And the maple glaze reminded us of a blueberry pancake. The bacon topping was fine, although with the bacon being at room temperature, it felt to me that you're more aware of the grease. The chocolate glazed yeast donut was a perfect classic donut done really well. And the fudge cake donut was good as well -- it definitely had a strong, fudgy flavor. And to top it off, the chocolate glazed yeast donut with peanut butter. Amazing! It's definitely got a very rich flavor. I think the only way I could've liked it more would've been if it had been the only donut I tried that day, it's a lot to eat if you did a "tour de donuts" like we did. read more

If you're looking for donuts that are just "okay" look no further. Holtman's has become glorified by Cincinnatians because it's something to call their own. Similar to skyline (which I love with all my heart) it may not be a fan favorite for anyone outside of Cincinnati, but to us, it is everything. There's something about the texture of the donuts that just does sit right with me. Also, I am a maple donut connoisseur/snob and can tell you with 100% confidence that this "maple" icing is not actually maple. I want to love Holtman's so bad and give it another chance every couple years but today I was let down again...
