We had seen the place on Yelp and planned to grab something quick to go, but it turned into a great stop. The location is fantastic and convenient near the airport. The hostess was welcoming right away and directed us to the bar so we could place a quick to-go order. At the bar, the bartender gave excellent service and convinced us to try a couple of tacos along with the yuca fries and plantains we originally planned to order--and I'm glad he did. The Tacos Al Carbón were outstanding: grilled fajita beef with sautéed poblano and onion on flour tortillas topped with pico de gallo and guacamole. The steak was tender and full of flavor. The beans and rice were just right, and the plantains with coconut sauce were a perfect addition. The bartender also recommended a Stone Delicious IPA, which made the short wait enjoyable. We grabbed a Tamarindo agua fresca and bolitas de yuca for the road--light, flavorful, and perfect for the drive. Great food, great service, and a great find near the airport. Definitely worth stopping in.

For appetizers, we enjoyed the queso verde which was very green with roasted poblano, & corn. We chose to add short rib to it as well and it was quite tasty. Definitely more of a liquid-y dip than a queso fundido style. Along with a trio of salsas and chips. I had the beef fajita for my meal and I enjoyed it and it his the Tex-mex spot for me as well don't have many Mexican restaurants in SoCal that serve fajitas. It was a nostalgic treat. My friend got the short rib enchiladas with queso oaxaca, red chile sauce, crema, radish, cilantro, queso fresco & caramelized onion. She really liked it as well even though she said the red chile sauce was spicy for her. My margarita was tasty as well.

On our way back from Asia, my husband and I had a stop through the DFW area and immediately decided…read morethat we needed to take advantage of being back near a region that really knows Mexican food. Living in Sioux Falls has many positives, but distinct and deeply flavorful Mexican cuisine is unfortunately still something that's a little harder to come by compared to places like Arizona or Texas. So, we made it a point to stop at Lupe Tortilla while passing through Irving. The first thing we noticed was how packed the restaurant was during lunch. People were pouring in steadily, and the atmosphere had that energetic local favorite feeling where you know people come because they genuinely enjoy the food. Thankfully, the meal itself delivered. Now, was it the absolute best Mexican food I've ever had? No. But it was still leagues beyond most of what we've experienced lately back home in South Dakota. The carne asada especially stood out. The portion was massive, tender, and packed with smoky, savory flavor. You could immediately tell it had actually spent some time on a grill instead of simply being rushed out of a kitchen. We also enjoyed the tacos, enchiladas, and burritos, all of which had that comforting Tex-Mex richness and seasoning that we've really missed. Unfortunately, we were on a fairly tight travel schedule and couldn't linger the way we would have liked. Honestly, this felt like the sort of place where you could easily sit awhile longer, enjoy another drink, sample more dishes, and just soak in the lively atmosphere. Still, even as a quick stop, it was a great experience and a delicious reminder of how much we miss the bold Mexican food culture of the Southwest.

I finished one taco, but for the second I only ate the lobster since I didn't want to waste it, especially considering the $30+ price point. My husband ordered the carne asada steak Lupe and said it was fine, though he's definitely had better. On a more positive note, the chili con queso was good, and the frozen strawberry margarita was both tasty and generously sized. Service was friendly, but we were given multiple chip refills without being asked, while the salsa and beans that come with them were never replenished, which felt a bit unbalanced. The restaurant had a lively atmosphere and was on the louder side, which made it a little difficult at times to hear our server. My Apple Watch even gave me a loud-environment alert, so it might be something to keep in mind if you prefer a quieter dining experience.

The bathrooms weren't the nicest but also not the worst--one of the stall doors didn't lock, though they had added something to help with that. The inside is pretty nice, and our waiter came over shortly after we were seated. We ordered appetizers and drinks, and the appetizers arrived in about 15 minutes. Unfortunately, the service wasn't the best. Our server would leave for long periods and didn't check on us, even though she passed by our table multiple times and we clearly needed assistance. She also addressed us with very casual language like "yeah," which didn't feel very professional. That said, the food was excellent. Everything starting with the chips and salsa was great--the salsa was one of the best fresh salsas I've ever had. We also ordered the cheese quesadillas, and they were perfect in every way. My entrée was delicious as well; the cheese and meat were cooked perfectly, and the rice and beans were great. (I got the fajita Monterrey) Overall, the food was very tasty, but the service could definitely be more professional. Also, the menu is not very flexible--you can't substitute ingredients (like removing onions from the guacamole) or order off-menu items such as egg tacos, even though they have the ingredients. The food was good, but I'm not sure I loved the service.

I enjoyed the chile con queso and the salsa here. Order the skinny margaritas and they were delicious. The drinks here are made very well. Definitely some of the best margaritas I've had. For dinner plates we order the beef and chicken fajitas. I didn't try the beef fajitas but I will say I didn't enjoy the chicken fajitas. The chicken was kinda dry and not flavorful. The tortillas were amazing. I've had enchiladas here before and I think I would have enjoyed those again instead of the chicken fajitas. Overall great service, nice atmosphere, and some good dishes I enjoy.
