Vanilla and chocolate swirl in a cup - can't go wrong! The small is a large serving, so ordering anything bigger than that is just unnecessary. Didn't get the hype behind this place when my family first moved to South Jersey - ended up chucking my first cup of custard due to its chalky, gluey texture; tasted stale as well. Recently revisited the shop on a wintery day for a midweek pick-me-up. I bought a small cup of fat free custard (80 calories/serving), and loved it! (guessing my previous experience was a one time happening). The chocolate-vanilla balance was perfect; could barely tell it wasn't the regular version; and the portion was beyond generous. I got a cup of vanilla custard with rainbow sprinkles. It was, as others have accurately reviewed, creamy and not too sweet. It was "softer" than I think custard should be, so I knock a star off. The small cup was more like a large. I could only eat half of it, despite really wanting to finish it but for the price I didn't feel super bad about not finishing it. You could definitely split a small cup if you have that option. read more

It's a good place to go but I'm skeptical when it comes to the winter The place open year round is good but sugar rush here. DIABETIC'S ONCE IN A WHILE ONLY......its history is like the other places from the past YEARS like holiday lakes in Delanco NJ and hill crest dairy in bensalem PA...... To name a few . Awful experience. Cashier didn't know how to count and gave me $2 change when I paid for $7 ice cream with a $20. They refused to give me back my proper change and acted really rude. Asked very nicely for them to correct my change and they said there was nothing they could do about it, then went in the back and talked bad about me to the other workers. This is a great place for soft serve/custard! They have custard & non-fat. I asked for the non-fat, and I was amazed that it was non-fat. SOOOO good. They have milkshakes, flurries (aka blizzards), dish or cone, sundaes, and more. If you like peanutbutter, they do have it as a topping for sundaes, although they do not advertise it, not sure why. Eat your icecream before you leave. It will be melted by the time you get home. I don't like to drink my icecream, unless it was intended to be a milkshake. :-) I will definitely be back! Wow! All the other Yelpers were correct that the non-fat custard here is Great!! It is not overly sweet and tastes fresh (not sure that's a word you describe custard), but comparing it to other places (like Rita's or McDonalds), you can tell the taste is not more generic.. ahh, I give up on trying to describe it, you just have to try it!! There were also many cars in the parking lot that I was able to grab one of the last remaining open "dedicated" parking spaces left. There were a lot of people sitting in their cars enjoying their ice cream. While there seems to always look like a lot of people in front, the lines move quick. I got a SMALL twist cone with rainbow jimmies and it was just the perfect portion. I did not expect the Small to actually be so large, and I can't imagine how the Medium and Large sizes would be on the wafer cone or how they would stay up. One caveat with custard is that it will begin melting in seconds so you have to quickly eat it or it'll melt all over your hands! The prices are VERY reasonable with my twist cone being $2.75 (50 cents was for the jimmies) especially for the amount you get just for a Small! I look forward to trying their flurries or sundaes, it all looks so delicious! I'm glad it is open all year round, but also glad it is not right around the corner or otherwise I would be in big trouble.. but hey, it's non-fat right? A neighborhood classic, the custard stand features all of your favorite treats at reasonable prices. For a little over $20, 5 of us enjoyed flurries and sundaes the other night. My only gripe is that this stand is only soft serve - after moving to a neighborhood with a bountiful selection of home made flavors, the standard chocolate and vanilla does seem a little boring. read more

Always amazing no matter what. Anything you get is guaranteed to taste and look amazing. I recommend a black and white milkshake or a Reese's cup flurry with chocolate ice cream. Custard is their specialty here but they do serve water ice too. Place was packed when I went and expectations were incredibly high given the reviews. I left underwhelmed but their custard is still solid overall. Flurry- this was pretty interesting to see on the menu so I was excited to try it. I ordered the nutter butter with twist custard which is blended vanilla and chocolate custard with nutter butter cookies. The flavor of the custard reminded me the custard at other franchise places as far as flavor goes. It did have the traditional custard taste which was good. But the vanilla and chocolate are both very mild in flavor. I thought they could do a better job with the blending because the texture was closer to soft serve custard from the machine rather than the thick creamy blend consistency I am used to. It also did not really get any nutter butter pieces until halfway through the flurry. Water ice- I tried some of the mango water ice and it was also something that reminded me of the standard franchise water ice. The mango tasted artificial like a syrup was used and it was overbearingly sweet. Texturally, it was too mushy and not enough of the ice texture enough. Was not a fan of this. Price: compared to its local competitors the water ice here is cheap for the size of their serving. I think it was 3.75 for a small but it was the size of like a large. read more

I've lived within close proximity to the Maple Shade Custard Stand my whole life, and just recently I learned it's real name. Before I would refer to it as the Drive In, which comes from the big red letters on it roof. But regardless of what you call it, its a local favorite. The ice cream is delicious, the prices fair, and the portions generous. Overall the place has a great home town vibe with a friendly staff. The custard stand has a small parking lot where people will park and enjoy their ice cream on their tail gates. There are also two wooden benches where you can enjoy your ice cream. If the lot gets too crowded, it is typical practice to park along the street. read more
