Been bringing my pets, and referring this vet to my clients for years. They're the best!

Dr. Karen Hofmann made our sweet 21 year old cat's end of life transition as peaceful, gentle and compassionate as humanely possible. Poosa was a special cat who brought our family many years of joy. Diagnosed with cancer and spinal issues, he declined to the point where he wasn't eating without assistance and we had to carry him to his litter box. Our hearts were breaking and we knew we had to do what was best for him. Wanting a home euthanasia, I called three local veterinary clinics in our area, including our own. I was told it would be up to one week before a home visit could be scheduled. My neighbor had told me about Dr. Hofmann. She said she and her family had the best experience one could hope for when they home-euthanized their beloved dog. I called Maple Leaf Pet Corner and spoke with Rita, who was very kind and understanding. I explained Poosa could not even stand in his litter box and I was hoping to schedule home euthanasia as soon as possible. I believe she sensed the desperation in my voice, as she put me on hold, telling me, "let me check with the doctor". She came back and said, "Yes, Dr. Hofmann will come and help you with Poosa". I was struck by her kindness because she agreed to come that evening. Dr. Hofmann made such a sad, difficult situation go smoothly. She explained to us what she was going to do, Poosa had no pain and transitioned peacefully. I cannot say enough about how kind she was throughout the ordeal. Dr. Hofmann gave my daughter and I hugs as she could see we were grieving. I was touched by this veterinarian, who truly cares about the animals who enrich our lives. read more

Up until a few months ago I would have given this vet clinic hands down a HUGE 5 star rating! I have been going there for over 6 years now with my cat, who has had numerous health issues over the years, including diabetes, tooth issues, and possibly pancreatitis. The care I received was always 100% caring, and I felt very worth the price. However, after Dr. Neil left in October of this year, the actual veterinarians working at MLPC has been reduced to two -- Dr. Karen Hoffman (still wonderful!), and another vet who out of courtesy, I will allow to remain nameless -- let's call her "H". Unfortunately this person makes it impossible for me to want to continue to be a client at this business. To begin to explain what I experienced, I will start by saying that H. has not worked at this clinic for that long, or at least not for nearly as long as the vet techs and front desk staff, for example. The first interaction I had with H. was a "discussion" at the front desk when I came in to purchase some U-40 syringes for insulin administration. I requested the syringes in a sharps container, since in the city of Seattle, you have to dispose of them in this manner. (NO you can't legally put them in a pop bottle, despite what your vet says!). Well, I was promptly and curtly told by H. that they didn't have them, and that they NEVER have had them! I had never purchased syringes anywhere else in my life, but she insisted that I must have gotten them somewhere else (?!) After attempting to explain that I wouldn't even know where else to buy them, I finally gave up. Additionally, I had been told by the staff that I was allowed to bring back my full sharps container to MLPC when I purchased a new one. Well, this apparently NEVER happened either according to H., although I had been doing it for the past 2 years. She said they would have to charge for that -- I said "fine, how much?" Her response, "ALOT!" Whatever, so helpful... it's $2.00 at Bartell's btw. The second, (and final), interaction I had with H. unfortunately involved my poor cat actually having to endure care from her. First off, she was very condescending and would not listen to why I was there that day. (I was there for a Fructosamine test for BG regulation history.) Cat did not need an exam, which she proceeded to do anyway!($58) Cat did not need a blood glucose test ($25). Cat did need some mats shaved off, which was done, ($55), but obviously there's a first time for everything -- she did not know how to handle a cat. Of course this was very stressful for the cat, after which H. said that the Fructosamine test could not be performed that day due to the cat's stress level. Well, aside from that being a bullshit statement, THAT WAS THE ONLY REASON I WAS THERE! Why not do that first? Also, H's idea of how to handle a cat for a blood draw consists of wrapping it in a towel and taking it to the back! We have been having this test done on a regular basis for over 2 years, and obviously letting the cat stay calm, not wrapped in a towel, and with it's owner is a far superior method! My cat is not a wild bitey, scratchy cat either, so the towel wrapping was totally inappropriate, and she was SO SCARED! During this visit I also inquired about possible arthritis remedies, not sure the cat needs it but I had some ideas and questions. Well I came in with questions about Glucosamine and velvet antler as possibilities, and asked if there was anything else. Well, H. had never heard of using any of those things in cats, but sure, in dogs. After discussing these options a bit she actually asked if she could write them down for me so I could remember! Um.....didn't I bring these to your attention??? To make matters worse, I spoke to a vet friend about this and he said that Adequan works wonders in cats! Why did she not know about this??! To just make the visit even more unpleasant, H. had obviously not read my cat's chart at all before the visit, and I can understand that -- places can be busy--but she kept saying things like, "so, your cat is in kidney failure?" Um...NO. Why. "Oh, I see, I guess she isn't." "So, your cat has fatty liver syndrome?" NO, WHY?! Oh, I see, that was just that one test..." etc. etc... To summarize, I felt like I was NOT listened to, spoke to in a very condescending manner, and ripped off for services that I not only did not need, but specifically asked NOT be done. So, to make a long story even longer, I would be certain that if you have a cat and decide to come to MLPC, that you insist that you see Dr. Hoffman. Who knows, H. might be absolutely great with dogs!! read more

I have really liked the Vets and Techs at the Pet Corner! They are warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The place is a bit cramped, but so it is when working in a remodeled home. UNFORTUNATELY, I have to travel with my dog regularly and the cost of exams and health certificates required are higher here at Pet Corner. No regular customer discount. It was easy to find the same at another vet clinic for 40% less. Great business, love the vet, but too expensive. read more

Such a caring, competent, wonderful group of people. We have been taking our cat here since her adoption about 4 years ago and have had only the best experiences. The staff truly cares about her. Dr McNeal is so helpful with providing options and explaining situations in a clear, helpful way. All the staff is wonderful and knows us all by name. Very highly recommend! read more

This place is hands down the absolute best vet experience I've ever had and i have been to a lot of vets with my beloveds! Dr Karen is great! My dog has had many health problems the past two years so we have become regulars! We have always been treated very well and the staff is super friendly and helpful. When I call to schedule visits they always know who I am and are great about same day appointments no matter what the problem is ( x-rays,minor surgery,etc. we have done it all!). They have been great about helping me figure out what the next step is in caring for my dog and always give me good info on recommended procedures/ refferals to specialist's. This is the first place I've taken my dog that really has tried to get to the bottom of his medical mysteries! And at extremely affordable prices! We will come here for life! read more

We love our vet and the staff at Maple Leaf Pet Corner. A little over two months ago we discovered through Dr. Karen that our adored pet of 10 years has a very serious condition. Bless his heart, with numerous calls to the clinic and help with medication he is continuing to have a wonderful quality of life and we have this staff to thank for it. Dr. McNeal, Dr. Hofmann, and the staff at Maple Leaf Pet Corner are excellent! We have had nothing but positive experiences with our two dogs. My dogs hated the vet, but they often felt at ease, especially when Dr. McNeal would sit with them and comfort them. Both Dr. McNeal's and Dr. Hofmann's love for animals is very obvious! And yes, as a reviewer mentioned before, sometimes they have a small, calm doggie walking around the office, which actually helped calm my dogs down! Having a calm presence in a situation that made my pups anxious worked! Regardless, everyone here is kind, compassionate, professional, and nice. Glad we found this place! read more

I absolutely love Dr. Karen Konz. She is an amazing vet who literally saved my cat's life after another vet botched a procedure on his large intestine. She is caring and wonderful, and will often stay late to take care of emergency cases. Her prices are reasonable and she volunteers with the Seattle Animal Shelter. She's an amazing person, has wonderful staff, and I wouldn't trust my pets to anyone else's care. read more

Dr. Hoffman is THE BEST! She is very gentle, kind, intelligent...I could go on and on. She was so kind and compassionate through the illnesses and end-of life for our 2 elderly cats, and now our 3 rescue cats, one of whom has diabetes. read more

Like most of you, we truly love and adore our furry family members and good healthcare for them is especially important to us. Our previous vet was excellent but we needed to move away from the clinic system and settle in with an appointment based vet. After doing extensive research of the vets in our area it became clear that Maple Leaf pet corner was head and shoulders above many of its peers. And as a new client of this office i can honestly say we have zero complaints and nothing but praise for Dr.Hofman, Dr.Miller and their staff. They are smart, informative and animal-human savvy. read more

I continue to have great experiences here. My puppy LOVES going to the vet (I hope this lasts! So far, so good!) To top it off, I referred a client of mine here - a senior, whose cat was dying. I am always nervous to recommend businesses to clients, but I need not have worried. Dr. Karen went above and beyond and my client is so grateful. I want to thank Dr. McNeal and the staff at Maple Leaf Pet Corner for taking care of my sweet cat Bailey on the last day of her life. Everything was done professionally and I had no doubts there was anything more that might have been done. Dr. McNeal was wonderful during the euthanasia process and her compassion made this difficult day more bearable. It was an expensive day, I'm not sure if the costs are less anywhere else. Thankfully, I had enough money to pay for this, but honestly, I have no doubt that they would have worked with me if I had expressed a hardship. Thank you all. read more

Drs. McNeal and Hoffman have been wonderful vets for our animals and the assistants at the office have been stellar. They cared for our aged cat and dog through to their last days and have helped us care for our new cat and dog as well. They were able to give realistic prognoses when our older animals were ill and dying, offering the best evidence-based medicine but also understanding of medical limitations. In the case of both animals, Hoffman and McNeal were each available after hours for humane euthanasia. We took the cat into the office for a loving goodbye and she gave us space to grieve and support. Dr. McNeal traveled to our house to help us say goodbye to our beloved lab and end her suffering when she was too ill travel. After each, we received a pawprint in ceramic to remember them by. When we got our new kitten and puppy there was no questions who we would see. Maple Leaf Pet Corner was helpful and available not only for regular check ups but also for all the small emergencies on a same-day basis. We moved out of Seattle about 6 months ago and now live about 40 minutes away but still commute to Maple Leaf Pet Corner for the best vet care around. read more

Love love love this vet. I have never loved a vet before - more saw them as a necessary function of caring for your pet but this clinic is amazing. I have a 16 year old Siamese that is my baby and we started going to this vet about 2 years ago. My cat has always had a puking problem and she has been seen by probably 6 different veterinarians in her life due to my moving from college to different cities and the resounding answer I got from vets (after expensive tests, changing food and feeding habits) was she's just a puker. I even had one vet say that he'd had a Siamese just like her live to 20 and she puked every day. So I resigned myself to that was an unfortunate part of my kitty's package. The difference happened when I visited Dr Hoffman and she recommended I give Pepcid to my little puker and voila, puke is almost completely gone. Also I told her about my cat's behavior changes and that she winces constantly and we agreed she probably has arthritis. She recommended adequan shots since my cat hates pills and we'd tried several different kinds of glucosamine treats and powders which she rejected. So a year or so later after she started sleeping so much I would only be able to interact with her briefly in the morning, we started the shots and holy crap it's like I have my baby back. It was an almost immediate change. I wish I had done it sooner but the thought of giving her shots really freaked me out. But the doctor had a nice, patient vet tech walk us through giving her shots and between our training, my husband and the internet we have been successful so far with giving her the shots. She barely notices the shots and is back to herself. Her eyes are bright and alert, she sleeps about half as much as she used to and begs for scratches again. She even tried jumping up on our bed without her kitty shelf and has been playing with her sister kitty so those are good signs she's feeling better. read more

we went to another vet with our new puppy and were not impressed. they didn't let us ask questions, and in general the vet we saw had terrible people skills. Going to maple leaf pet corner was just great. we got everything we needed done and felt confident we were getting good care. Both vets are great and they have good hours so you can really get in when you need an appointment. would 100% recommend them! read more

The vets and staff are awesome! I took my 5 wk old kitten in for its first check up. The next week, my kitty was extremely sick, they let me come in as soon as they opened, I was even able to come back after their normal hours due to my work schedule. They send me and kitty home with meds and food. The office is busy, but they are extremely personable and listen well. My kitty is now happy and healthy. I will recommend this clinic to anyone who cares about their pet. read more

I cannot speak highly enough about Maple Leaf Pet - the doctors are knowledgeable, patient, caring. When my cat of 18 years got sick the doc called me every other day to check on him and me. My only wish is that I would have found them sooner. read more

I switched to Maple Leaf after being unhappy at my previous vet. Dr. Hoffman and Dr. McNeal were both amazing! My cat had blood in her urine, and I was so worried. Dr. Hoffman was able to get a urine sample right there on the table, examine it for stones or crystals, and tell me the necessary steps to take, all in one appointment. The doctors eased my mind and told me not to worry, my cat would be fine. And they were right! So happy with Maple Leaf! These doctors know what they are talking about and will not give up until your pet is 100% better! read more

This is a great place. It feels homey, warm and animal centered. That carries over to the way they tend animals. They don't over prescribe; they have a sensible approach but at the same time, they make an intelligent assessment and try multiple things with sick animals. I had a very ill cat who simply couldn't be saved. Karen Hofmann had the right touch with her and with me. My older dog goes there now and gets good care for all of his aching bones. read more

great vet place! the place is very cute and personal and the staff is wonderful. we are new to the area and had to find a new vet for our 2 kitties and we are so glad that we now have maple leaf pet corner. they were great with the kitties, even when our kitten had to get 2 shots and his nails trimmed, we could hear the vet/staff cooing and saying sweet things to him while he was being assaulted with a rather large needle. :( but i would highly recomend them :) read more

Absolutely the BEST vet in Seattle. Dr. Karen Konz-Hoffmann and her staff are unbelievable. You will receive incredible customer service and wonderful pet care. Dr. Konz has such a great beside manner with the animals. We have taken our cats there for almost 10 years. We moved out of the neighborhood a few years ago and decided to try a vet located closer to our home, but that turned out to be a big mistake. We immediately went back to Maple Leaf Pet Corner. I absolutely adore this place and am reviewing it because I'm now moving away from Seattle and have realized how much I will miss this place. My husband and I took our Australian Labradoodle puppy here and had a stellar experience every time. The staff and vets were always so nice to him. It was very important to us that our puppy had a good experience so that he wouldn't be afraid of the vet for the rest of his life, and they ensured that he had a GREAT experience. I was also hesitant about some vaccines and they always did a great job of explaining their reasoning for recommending them without making me feel pressured. They also called to check up on him a couple of days after every vaccine which I thought was very thoughtful. We learned plenty of useful tips from them, such as how to properly trim his nails, and always felt as though our questions were thoroughly addressed. Again, wish we weren't moving away from this place, it is wonderful! read more

Sorry to be inconsistent with the other reviews. My experience with Maple Leaf and Dr. Julia McNeal is indirect, but NOT positive. She signed a spay certificate for a dog I adopted through a rescue group - and the dog just came into heat. After my vet requested the complete medical records as backup to the certificate, it turns out Dr. McNeal assumed the dog was spayed because she thought she saw a scar by the umbilicus, and signed an official spay certificate anyway claiming that she had actually DONE the procedure, which she also claimed directly to my vet until we saw the detailed records! My vet said there was no scar, that WAS the umbilicus. The dog also had multiple health problems that should have shown up in any competent vet's general exam: misplaced kneecaps, ground-down teeth making age determination difficult, ear infection, tapeworms, and a poorly healed broken front leg, but absolutely none of these things were revealed in the vet notes from the examination and shots. I definitely would not trust them for further diagnosis or treatment. read more
