I have been a loyal client at Urban Animal for my dog Tymber but after todays experience I will not be returning. I arrived for my scheduled appointment only to be told by Elliott Lead that there was no record of it in their system. I showed a screenshot confirming my appointment and Elliott acknowledged that this same issue had already happened earlier that day which means they were aware of a problem with their scheduling system. Even with this admission and with my dog being sick they refused to see her. What made this experience even worse was the complete lack of care and accountability. When I shared my concern about being turned away with a sick pet Elliott responded in a dismissive and condescending way suggesting I must not have received a confirmation email or text even though I had proof of the booking in front of them. There was no ownership of their mistake and no compassion for my dogs wellbeing. Elliott did not offer to help find another appointment at any Urban Animal clinic did not offer to see if there was a cancellation and did not provide any support or guidance on where to seek care. I had to search for an emergency clinic on my own and spent three hours trying to get my dog the care she needed because Urban Animal refused to assist after their own scheduling error. This level of neglect lack of responsibility and absence of empathy is unacceptable for any veterinary practice especially one trusted with the health of our pets. Tymber deserved better and so does any animal brought to Urban Animal. Because of this experience and the unprofessional conduct I will not be returning and I cannot recommend Urban Animal to anyone looking for reliable or compassionate veterinary care. read more

The office is new and modern with lots of friendly touches like a comfortable waiting room (complete with dog bed) and a welcome screen in the exam room with my pet's name. Paid $110.00 deposit up front before Appointment for a recheck for my 10 yo Bernese MT Dog had a UTI As a Clinical Social Worker I work with deeply distressed individuals daily. I ended my day feeling very traumatic ripped off and still maybe having a sick dog. I was working late and I had an appointment for 630 I walked in at 6:40 which was 10 minutes later than 630 which was the original original appointment ...ok you get a 10 minute late grace period At exactly 640 while I was standing in the door, I received a text that I could not be seen as I was late. I had until 640 and I was standing there at 6:40. AND..They refused to refund my $110 deposit. I called my credit card and basically they said I was correct. I was paying for services to Urban Animal downtown that I did not receive so I was not out $110 ...because the $110 was not paid by my Credit Card company to Urban Animal downtown Yes.. it was a very stressful situation. In the future, I will go to a small veterinarian clinic where the people are honest and don't have fraudulent practices. This place is a horrible mess. I have never been to a worse veterinary clinic and I have seen vets all over the country. They're all about money $$$ I have a small five pound dog- they never helped me really with her. She has, like many small dogs this size, stomach problems. I had to beg for a medication called Cerenia for stomach upset- they sold me ONE PILL and they ran my bill up to $400.00 in one visit- that was for an X-ray and the doctor comes out and says- well, we really can't tell from the x ray so we would like to send it to a specialist for review- I asked how much that would cost and they said twelve hundred dollars. In fact, on top of that - THEY ASKED ME IF I WOULD VOLUNTEER TO PAY 15% MORE on my bill to help out their fancy schmancy high-rise bills. This is a systems house and all they care about is money. Well, the cerenia tablet worked but after going there three times with the same problem they are just sort of clueless and want to do thousands of dollars worth of tests- well, my dog is a Yorkshire terrier and they are susceptible to upset stomachs as I've had this breed for 43 years. They also never helped me for barking/calming/anxiety- every time I left that place I felt pissed off because they have a whole bunch of doctors and techs and staff and all they care about is running up your bill. This place is amazing! The staff are super friendly, especially Antonio at the front desk. We did have to wait but you can call ahead and ask about the current wait times. Once you have your name on the list it's easy to take a walk outside. The vet tech was great and the doctor spent more time with my animal and have me more of. Solan for my senior dog's care than I have received at either of the other two vets I've been going to the last 8 years. It was such a refreshing experience in a time when Vera have such long waits for appointments and push test after test. We will be back! read more

I've been stressed looking for a new vet after moving from CA. Independent vets were quoting out 4-6 weeks for an appointment if they had openings for new patients. At first I dismissed Urban Animal because of their system (walk in, no appointments). In the end, I decided to try them out. Surprisingly their system isn't too bad. On a workday, I was able to walk in by myself to be put on a waitlist. The wait was about 2-3 hours but I just did other things. I got a text saying there were a few people ahead and that I should head over. When I returned with my dog, it was about a 10 minute wait. The vets are very nice and friendly however it may not be the same vet every visit. So far I've only been for a new patient check up and a dental cleaning and their prices have been very fair (even to a vet I saw in San Diego). Teeth cleaning for a 50lb dog with no extractions was a little under $400. Overall great experience so far. It's also nice that there's 4 dedicated parking spots across the street. The only thing is that the vet techs/front desk aren't always as friendly as the vets but other than that it's a great spot. read more

TL;DR - They are great, but can be a bit of a pain when you need to be seen promptly. Pros: Lots of Vets work here, so your time to get an appt is much shorter than other Vets in Seattle. Front desk staff and techs are all very friendly. (Except one Vet Tech who is condescending and rude, but I just ignore her!) Super friendly and responsive on the phone if I ever call and have any questions. Cons: Because its a rotating Vet system, I feel like there isn't a single Vet who is really getting to know/care for my dog. It doesn't feel like she receives personal care. I sometimes wish she had a more 1:1 relationship with one vet. Also, because of the Walk-In policy, if something non-urgent happens late in the day, you can be waiting hours or even not be seen if they are full. We have taken our dog here since we first got her as a puppy. She actually loves it and doesn't mind going at all. We took her here for her Spay as well, and they did a really good job and took good care of her. One thing to note on payments - for her very first puppy visit, I felt like they tried to sell you everything. When checking out, I found out the Vet had put a bunch of meds on my bill for checkout, which I never asked for/we never discussed. E.g. they de-wormed her and sent me home with more dewormer and charged me, though she had already been dewormed! We recommend staying away from this business due to extremely poor customer support. I needed to get our dog a quick vet appointment for his annual exam and this place provided walk-in appointment. So, we gave it a try but are very disappointed by their service. During our visit, the vet was in rush to get out of the room and I had to keep asking her to check on different parts of my dog. This was our annual exam and we expected the vet to do a thorough check up rather than trying to get out of the room asap. We decided to do a blood test and we were promised a call in the week after to discuss the result with the doctor. That never happened and when I tried to call them on 3 occasions, I had to wait for 45+ minutes each time without being able to talk to anyone. We also didn't even receive an invoice for our visit and when I asked them at the checkout, I was told that they will email it to us in 1-2 days which again never happened. I also asked for our after-visit notes and again was told that I'll receive them in a week which again never happened. In summary, we were not able to receive any of our test results, our invoice, our after-visit notes,... It is almost impossible to get hold of anyone there and despite me calling multiple time and waiting for 45+ minutes each time, I am still not able to get any support or follow up. I don't know what we would do if we couldn't get seen with same-day notice (our regular vet has 3 week wait times). We've been coming to Urban Animal for "urgent" issues for about 3 years. I love that they have a frequently updated wait time link on their website so there is no need to call ahead of time. Today we had Dr. Li and she performed a very thorough physical exam on our dog to help figure out the cause for her pain. She had the best understanding of our dog's body language of any vet we've ever encountered and put everyone at ease. She really took her time evaluating her and explaining to me what she found in her exam and recommendations for treatment and next steps. I left feeling so much better and after a few of the meds she gave us kicked in, so did my dog. A few hours after the appointment we received a detailed & helpful discharge note and itemized receipt. Unfortunately, my dog has a tumor now and it's extremely frustrating to pay for tests that we are told are recommended to determine if medication can help with the tumor's secondary disease's symptoms (Cushing's) - only to then be told they actually could have determined he didn't have Cushing's disease in a prior ultrasound. $250 for an unnecessary test and constantly having to call in to get any results. This place is so half-assed and the vet keeps calling my boy dog a 'she'. Looking at my past review, I don't know why they think a voicemail would suffice. Be professional, email people results. Use the emails on file. They're so unreliable, I don't want to have to micromanage the situation. Whoever is replying to all these bad reviews - it's super telling this place doesn't care about their level of service at all. It's never easy to say goodbye to a fur baby...especially one that's been with you for almost 12 years. The staff at Urban Animal made it as gentle and positive as possible. This was my first experience with Urban Animal in downtown Seattle, but I will definitely be bringing my other dog here in the future. They take walk in appointments and I only waited 45 min. The whole staff is really great and compassionate, especially when it comes to end of life care. Try to call back around the new ETA, to verify I'm still in line, just to wait on hold for about 45m. Additionally, their website "new client form" has a bug for mobile browsers, and I wasted even more time trying to fill it out, after they insisted "online is way easier" (maybe for them). Note, I initially asked to fill out paperwork instead. All in all, this place seems terribly time inefficient for customers, not in the sense they don't operate fast enough, but in the sense that their planning is horrible. As a first time experience, for a busy person, this was a terrible experience and I don't think I'll be returning. Update: Finally got into the office and was told "They'll be here in a few minutes". We beg you Urban Animal please, please make your intake process less stressful for humans, pets and your staff. Step 1: Place sick and stressed animal in carrier to go to Urban Animal 20 minutes before opening to get a good time at 8am. Step 2: Be told it will be a 3+ hour wait to see the vet and to come back. Step 3: Decide between 2 stressful scenarios - wait around with stressed animal in carrier for 3 hours or go home to unpack and repack in 3 hours to be stressed all over again. We beg you to please go back to any flavor of call ahead appointments. Even watching your staff handle call after call asking why they need to physically come in reserve at spot to then be told to wait 3 hours to come back is painful. We found Urban Animal when our 14 year old kitty started having trouble breathing, after shockingly finding out that our regular vet had moved to virtual only during the pandemic. Not sure how you can be a virtual vet?? Anyway, the walk-in business model was really the only one that would work for us since this was urgent and all other vets were booking out months because of the pandemic. It's like an urgent care for animals. We were given the next vet available, and got a preliminary diagnosis and some meds. The meds helped temporarily and then the breathing issue returned. We went back and saw a different doctor, because of the way their business model works. It was kind of off-putting at first, but once I realized that all their vets deeply care about animals, it was actually great to have different perspectives. Our kitty ended up having a mass that was most likely cancer. It was really difficult to asses when to euthanize to end her suffering, and the second vet we saw was so kind in returning my calls to talk through what I was seeing in my cat. She ended up being so helpful at the end of our kitty's life, even though I had just met her once in person. I've had mixed reviews coming here with my dog. The SLU turned into an appt only clinic which means they upped the price like crazy. They charge so much for a blood test that I've done over 4 times within the past year to get my dog's prescription med on the right level. Also, if your pet's prescription only has like 15 pills... you're better off getting it online. I didn't find out until I kept paying similar prices for my dog's med as they have a $20 minimum, and I could of gotten 100 pills for that same amount. Crazy. Prior to this I put in a prescription refill request, came in 2 days later as I didn't get an message and I only had 3 days left, no one mentioned to me that my dog needed ANOTHER blood test prior to get her prescription and you have to time her meds to the blood work which meant i had to come back AGAIN. The vet tech felt bad so let me know that following day they are open (Monday) she wouldn't charge me for the tech fee ($40 a pop on top of the expensive blood test) and when I got home on Monday after paying for everything I noticed the tech vet fee, I emailed them regarding this and they pretty much accused me of lying then I fought back and they refunded me $20 (which is half of the fee). They called me back later apologizing because they found a sticky note saying to not charge me the fee so they said they were going to refund the other $20. Whelp, that never happened so now I got to contact them AGAIN. Communication at this location is crap. I might check out the Cap Hill location but its so far out of the way (I live in Belltown) that I might just need to find another vet who aren't money hungry. read more

After seeing all of the negative reviews, I honestly had to double check to see if I landed on the right 'Urban Animal' page. I actually had a fantastic experience at this location and am grateful for it! My cat has had persistent respiratory issues for weeks, so after calling around to every vet in the area and being told that none of them had appointments available for months, I took my boy to this clinic to be checked out by a vet. It was recommended to me by two veterinary offices that I called, so I felt comfortable giving it a shot. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by a staff member who took my information quickly and painlessly, was kind and very informative. She told us that it might be about an hour wait, but we were inside of a room in no more than 20 minutes. The room itself was very clean (as was the waiting area), the vet's assistant was delightful and genuinely loved animals, and so was the vet herself. She sat us down and explained treatment options for our boy, in a more in-depth way than the other vet I used to see in West Seattle ever did. She even diagnosed a completely unrelated issue for us and gave us a quote on how to fix it, which we didn't expect at all but greatly appreciated! I was in and out of the office in a little over an hour- there was a bit of a wait towards the end, but it was obvious that they got super busy and I didn't mind. The pricing was also very reasonable. I honestly didn't have many expectations for a walk-in clinic, but they all seemed to handle the stress of getting busy out of nowhere very well and didn't compromise our pet's care at all because of it. I absolutely feel comfortable bringing the little guy back here, hopefully after his teeth cleaning I won't have to! Took my dog here for a walk-in appointment and beware: the wait times are really brutal! I was in and out of the office after 1 hour and 45 mins. Wait time took 1 hour 15 and the total appointment time took 30 mins. Unfortunately my dog was not waiting patiently but the lobby does have plenty of seating where you can wait a a decent enough of a distance away from other dogs. Once you get called up and enter one of the patient rooms, there's still a lot of waiting involved. I think the total time I spent actually seeing a vet / vet tech was 10 mins vs. 20 mins waiting in the patient room. I observed that even the patients that had appointments set up were prone to waiting 30 mins inside in the patient rooms while the vets and vet techs cycle between the rooms. The vet tech that was assigned to us was very off-put by my excitable dog and she didn't seem very patient with her, which is normally understandable but for someone who is in the animal care field I guess I would've expected a little bit more patience when dealing with dogs of all types. Oh well. All in all, I had an okay experience. We got our issue resolved / got prescribed some meds and we were on our way. I'm grateful for walk-in appointment availability but also think Urban Animal would benefit from having a more efficient process of cycling patients in and out of the offices. My primary vet does a super good job of keeping our appointments on time despite high volume of patients, and they still are able to keep their care and attentiveness top notch, so I know this is definitely possible and achievable! read more

While we initially had a good experience here with our puppy I strongly do not recommend for routine care. They say they are walk in but if you need routine care for vaccines or other things they will not do walk in and are booked out for a month even though they don't do appointments. It is confusing and I get different information each time I call. I called in advance to see if I could get an appointment and was told no but to call day of to get a queue time. Took the morning off work, called day of at 8:15 am and told they have no availability. So you can't book in advance and you also can't get in day of. A weird and inconsistent "lottery" system to get an appointment for a pet is only helpful if you do not have a job or commitments and are free any day. It isn't worth the hassle and recommend going to a vet that takes appointments. read more

Came to this location because the wait time online was the quickest. My dog had a sore on his snout/lip and came on a Friday around noon. I was shocked at how easy it was. At my normal vet ( I'm visiting for a month from CA) the usual wait time is an hour+ for whatever service so I was prepared for at least 2/3 hours here since it was a walk-in. It was so easy! I LOVE Urban Animal. I went here for years when I lived in Seattle, then continued to for a couple years even after I moved to Tacoma, because I was attached. They were wonderful with my reactive rescue Chi. I fostered 4 5 week old kittens for a rescue. They were VERY sick when I got them. They were pulled from a California shelter and transported up to me. ER vets are a nightmare and sitting in a car for many hours with the kittens was rough as they all had bad diarrhea from all the parasites, they also had ringworm, upper respiratory infections and were very underweight. The vets and staff at Urban Animal were loving, compassionate and knowledgeable. They saved my babies lives!! I went here many times almost weekly for the first 3 months with the kittens. I'm extremely disappointed with my service here. First of all, I recently took my new puppy for his shots and afterwards we were told to not schedule the third and final round - they would email us to schedule in two weeks. Well several weeks roll around and no email, so by the time we call in and finally get in touch with someone, they claim it's two weeks out to get a round of shots that takes less than 5 minutes. No answer as to why we never received an email and they didn't seem to care. In addition to this, on his most recent visit we never received an invoice or health record. Nothing. I'm traveling soon and now i'll have to jump through hoops to bring my puppy in cabin due to the delayed shots and lack of health record provided to me. Also, don't even get me started on the 9am appointment lottery. Absolutely ridiculous. My puppy had an issue that we emailed to the vet and they said to come in ASAP, well after calling at 9am we didn't get through to someone until 9:16 and all the appointments were taken! We had to go to the capitol hill location, where there were several people waiting outside in the same boat as me. Updating my review! I've honestly loved this place and clearly wrote my last review in a moment of frustration with Covid changes. It was hard to get my dog in which was tough, but they are back to walk ins next week and today I called well past 8 am and was able to get in same day. My pup has been coming here since I first got her and even though I moved up North, I continue to come here because the service is so good and the people are so kind and they really do try to save you money wherever possible. Update: Experience at the Capitol Hill location was much better. Got right in without a wait, staff was friendly to dog, and the vet was available. My doggo got her vaccines and is good to go! Original review regarding my initial visit: I called Urban Animal in order to setup a time to update my dog's vaccinations. I specifically needed the rabies vaccine to be administered in order for her to start off-leash dog walks at Magnuson Park. I live two-blocks from their Capitol Hill location, but all of their appointment times were full. I asked if records would be shared between locations if I went to the downtown office. They said yes and so I setup a same-day appointment for 4:30 pm downtown. I took my dog in a $15 Gig car share to their downtown office and arrived 15 minutes early. There was a short wait in the lobby (~10 minutes) and then they weighed my dog. There was another wait (~10 minutes) before an employee came out to confirm I was there for her vaccinations. I provided a copy of her vaccination records and reiterated that I wanted the rabies vaccine. He then said that they can't give the rabies vaccine without a physical exam by a veterinarian, and no veterinarian was available. They should not have set up an appointment for her to be vaccinated if they could not perform the necessary exam. The employee helped me setup an appointment for the next day at 6:30 pm. If they provide good service this time around, I'll update my review. I paid for another $15 Gig car share to take her back home. read more

The awesome part about Urban Animal is that you can walk-in any time without an appointment. I live in a building that has a veterinary office right around the corner, but it's impossible to get an appointment last minute. And my dog's been having frequent allergic skin reactions that are impossible to predict, so it usually doesn't make sense for me to make an advanced appointment unless I want to keep him on medication forever. The staff at Urban Animal are super friendly - I always had pleasant encounters, both with the receptionists and the medical staff. They've been tremendously helpful managing my dog's allergy symptoms and also keeping my emotional roller coaster at a halt. Urban Animal was the only vets office that could see my dog--who had severe vomiting and diarrhea issues--today due to their walk in policy. While it would have been ideal to confirm my spot in line by phone instead of going in person, I was overall very pleased with the support and care provided for my dog. That was my only priority. The intake staff were busy but friendly (on phone and in person) and confirmed my pet's previous vet records had arrived successfully. The vet tech asked thorough questions and took detailed notes on my pet's issues--and repeated info back to me to ensure accuracy. The vet clearly read through those notes (and previous vet records), discussed possible root causes, gave conservative to more intense treatment options (with cost), and included very thorough and kind notes as she was discharged for my reference. Sometimes I leave the vet confused and frustrated. At Urban Animal today, I left informed and supported, like my dog received the best care possible. Thank you Urban Animal! read more

UA Seattle downtown kept deleting the bad reviews on Google Review well. 1. The staff here is the rudest I've seen in the industry, no empathy, no consideration at all. They don't seem interested, nor care. Given their check-in system, it is not surprising. My pet has been in the bag for almost one hour and got super stressed but the doctor still rudely pulled her out. 2. They refused to send the prescription of refills to the pharmacy when the medication is gonna run out very soon. And I just took my pet for the exam ONE MONTH AGO and the reason for their decline was for another exam. The doctor clearly clarified that as long as the last exam was within one year, they are fine to order the refill. My pet need the medication ASAP but this doesn't seem like a problem/concern to them. 3. The exams were super fast (like several seconds). I couldn't feel profession. read more

This place is suck. The font desk is talking talking and talking, and even watching video on YouTube all the time. And do nothing about work. My cat is scared about their noise a lot. And they told me check back for 30 min. And I came back and wait here for 1 hour. I don't know how their system working. But it's definitely do not recommend this place. Urban Animal sent out a mass email asking clients not to write Yelp reviews! What a joke, if you want people to stop writing poor Yelp reviews why not improve your business practices? People won't write poor reviews if you give them good service. Your front desk staff is the rudest I've seen in the industry, no empathy, no consideration at all. They don't seem interested, nor care. Why do you have such an archaic system of waiting in line, in person? Your business is located on a tech hub, get an app or an scheduling system software. It's not the 1800s! We have full time jobs, it's ridiculous to sit and wait there, not knowing when you will be called. So are we expected to take a whole day off from work or a half day or 2 hours? In the mass email Urban Animal writes, poor reviews are demotivating to the staff. How about you motivate me to visit your business by providing good customer service, in return, I'll write a wonderful Yelp review, that should motivate your staff. So, what you put out there is what you get back. When I take my dog there, it's like a game, I don't know which vet I'll be seeing. If a different vet has treated my dog for the same condition, I can't request the same vet. We have to go through the same conversation and history again. Train your front desk staff on communication, empathy, consideration and care. That will improve the overall customer service exp for me. Get a scheduling app it technology. read more
