Let me start by saying that our introduction to Atlantic Vet Hospital was a bit unusual. Last summer, a young bird managed to injure itself next to our home; we have a feeling the poor thing accidentally flew into the side of our house and ended up with a broken wing. We kept an eye on them for a a few days hoping that after some water and a little time to rest, the bird would find it's way to the sky again, but unfortunately, this was not the case. After reaching out the Bird Clinic of Seattle, it was discovered that this specific type of bird couldn't be treated by them and they suggested reaching out to a local vet for euthanization. Easy, right? This is Seattle - there's TONS of veterinaries here... After calling no less than half a dozen vets within a 10 mile radius of our home who refused to help (including the vet we USED to take our cats to who continually fat shamed them), we called Atlantic who graciously said they could assist AND offered same day service. We put the bird in a shoebox and brought it over. I asked the front desk person what form of payment they preferred and the response was, "Nah. There's no need to pay us for this kind of service. Thank you for doing the right thing and bringing this poor bird in." Fast forward, my big guy cat woke me up a few months ago growling very early in the morning. It was obvious he was in a lot of pain, but our regular vet clinic didn't open until 9am vs. Atlantic who's phone lines open at 7am. I called them and immediately got an appointment for him to be seen later that afternoon. Frankly, the quality of care and genuine kindness that Dr. Monahan and her staff continually show us is incomparable to that of our last vet. I have bumped into vet techs at Atlantic whom I've never met, but express so much joy when my big guy cat shows up for follow ups. Everyone from the doctors to nurses to the front desk folks are always thorough and wonderful and we've never had an issue getting an appointment on the same day. We decided to move our cats here for primary care permanently. If you're looking for a vet that's happy to answer questions, not fat shame your pets, come up with health solutions and are generally an outstanding group of people who deeply care for animals and love what they do, this is the place. read more

Atlantic Veterinary Hospital has cared for my three generations of Standard poodles over the past 20 years. Dr Monahan took over the practice from Dr, Battinger something like 15 years ago and has brought the practice up to 21st century standards, especially in terms of communication and clinical space. . I can always see my dogs' clinical notes and test results within 24 hours of the visit and receive printed instructions at time of visit. Atlantic has also expanded the physical space taking over and remodeling all the building they are housed in. More recently Dr Monroe really went the extra mile handling a recent acute illness in my youngest dog who had an acute illness. So I can recommend Atlantic Vet without reservations. Now in terms of some negative comments re the care and service experience at Atlantic I will comment the covid crisis and restrictions for the last 2 years have been a real challenge from what I observed and experienced. Pet owners have had to wait in their car, and Atlantic staff comes out to meet and bring the pet inside and also to bring pet back and review instructions and billing. This has negatively impacted the care experience which use to be more personal and face to face,:and in my perspective this has created a huge stress on staff( having to come out in the weather tho the clinic has their own parking lot which helps). It was a logical way to comply with the restrictions and the sudden increase in demand for vet services during covid, because a crowded waiting and exam room were not safe. read more

I want to share my positive experience with Atlantic Veterinary Hospital. The doctors and staff are all wonderful. Our dog is usually anxious around new people, but everyone at the hospital has been very calming and kind when interacting with our dog. Recently, we faced the loss of our second dog, and the staff at Atlantic Vet's helped us through this difficult time with compassion and great care. We have not been with Atlantic Veterinary Hospital very long, but we have had a lovely experience thus far. We got a new cat at the beginning of the year, practically a baby compared to our previous experience with cats. AVH is super convenient to our house so they were our first choice. They had no hesitations about bringing us on as a new patient, even during the chaos of C19. When we first took our boy in, he had very limited experiences with vets and they went so far as to turn their lighting down to make him more comfortable. Their staff is busy, but have never been brusque, even when they were clearly handling things outside their immediate purview. . When we had an emergency over the fourth of July with our boy having a potential crystal issue, they were willing to get us in right away. We have experience with crystals and were able to secure some prescription food immediately, so we deferred the appointment for 48 hours (to allow them to address the inevitable flood of July 4th incidents) and they were absolutely wonderful when we did get him in. They didn't chide us too harshly for deferring the appointment and instead complimented us on knowledgeably handling the situation. They did, however, assert that they would've been more than happy to squeeze him in and that his problem really could've been more serious, so we shouldn't hesitate in the future. . I actually really love the way they've handled themselves re: C19. Having patients hang out in the parking lot, while inconvenient for folks without vehicles, is really great for basically everyone else. No stressful waiting room where your pet feeds off the general anxious vibe. No struggling to hear your name over the din. No rushing to pay in order to get out of there quickly. The last time I was able to even go in with my boy and had face to face time with the vet. So I don't think skipping the waiting room is that awful. read more

First, I admit I am one of those who only write reviews when something egregious happens. I took my dog to Altlantic for a prune-sized infected abscess on the underside of her rear paw due to trauma a few days before. I initially saw the proprietor, Dr. Monahan. We got on, and it went well, but I thought it was strange that she didn't open the abscess to let it drain. She gave me a handwritten note to call with an update in a few days, again a bit strange since typically the doctor calls you. Four days later, the course of antibiotics has run out, and my dog's paw has completely swollen to 150% of its size. They make me wait until the next day to bring her in, which is when the service becomes unacceptable. They say they will sedate her and cut the abscess open to drain the fluids. The doctor (Dr. Monahan was nowhere around) says the next appointment has come in early, so my pup should be able to go home in about three hours, at 1. I got no update that afternoon, so I called at 2:30 to see if she could come home. They put me on hold to check with the team, then hung up on me. I expected a callback but didn't get one, so ten minutes later, I called again. Before I could tell them who I was, they put me on hold for SIX minutes (of course, they have caller ID) and then put me on hold again to check her status. Then they told me she was being sedated and would let me know when the procedure was finished. I was upset and told them I was three blocks away and could have brought her back when they were ready. Sure enough, my dog's front paws were blacked from four hours of anxiety in a cage. German Shepherds are notoriously whiney, so they must have ignored her that entire time. Then while the nurse was telling me how to care for the wound, she kept calling my dog "he" (I was too done to correct her). At one point, she looks down at the paperwork and sees that she's, in fact, a she and calls her "she" once. But then she immediately goes back to calling her "he"! The icing on the cake was when I picked up the Bitter Apple they suggested I use. It was a few minutes before they had the paperwork ready to check me out, but the receptionist said, "You're getting that too?" as if she was worried I would walk out without paying for it. (You see me holding it; just add it to the bill.) I am biracial and can see why the bad reviews come from people of color. Among the seven who serviced us, there was no non-white person, which is undoubtedly NOT representative of this neighborhood. Ultimately, nearly everyone I encountered there gave poor service. I never saw or heard from the proprietor after the initial visit, and the final bill was over $1200 for an infected paw. The same thing happened with my last dog, who had DM, so I looked up the invoice; Urban Animal Capitol Hill had immediately drained the abscess and charged me $180. Now, two weeks later, my dog's paw is not healed (it's more swollen than the initial visit). When I sent Atlantic the draft for this review and asked for a partial refund to make it right, Dr. Monahan said I should be "grateful" and threatened to have me ARRESTED FOR EXTORTION! (Seriously, some Amy Cooper shit!) Take your pet elsewhere. (And don't trust the positive reviews for this place; many are one-offs.) read more

The worst hospital! They are not professional and they don't respect people! First, let me tell you why they're not professional: My puppy is having giardia and we took several rounds of medication with this hospital. The 4th time I even cleaned every corner of my apartment everyday and after that they told me giardia is cleared. I still suspect that it's not clear so after 1-2 weeks my dog took another test and this time it's tested positive for giardia! They said my dog's reinfected but my dog literally only stayed at home and I cleaned home everyday with bleach! Secondly let me tell you how they don't respect people: So I had a phone call with this doctor and talked about the situation. I mentioned another doctor told me to train my dog pooping outside and then start the medication again. This doctor was like: "even you take it outside, you still need to pick the stool up you can't just leave." Of course I need to pick it up. And later she was like: "Sry I can't hear you" and she hanged up on me! I feel being discriminated. I called back and she didn't pick the phone and I called again someone else picked phone and told me she's having an appointment. If you don't have time for me you could just say that you have to go. SO FAKE!!! SO DISRESPECTFUL!! I don't know what else to say. I've spent so much money and they treated me like shit!! read more

My dog has foxtail in her leg. They bandaged her foot so brutally with tape all over the injured toe. It hurt her so much just to change the bandage. They also charged for a bandage change. I've had pets all my life and have never had a vet charge $60 for changing a bandage. And the freakin foxtail is still in there $420 later. We have taken our two dogs to Atlantic Vet for around 6 years, and we have really appreciated the care we've received throughout. There's been changes to staff and owners, and one of our favorite vets did move away a few years ago, but we've felt that our dogs' best interests have consistently been kept in mind. Dr. Munroe, Dr. Võ, Dr. Bucklin and the rest of their team have truly been wonderful. It's hard to find vets you trust, and I feel that I can trust the vets at Atlantic. read more

This is a re-post of a review based on my OWN experience that YELP took down for some reason. It is entirely factual and follows guidelines for posts. The post contains a letter sent to me by Atlantic, and my responses point by point MARKED with * It has been brought to my attention that during your last visit in June you declined the Leptospirosis vaccine, but wanted us to falsify Athena's record so it appeared that she was current on vaccinations for her upcoming boarding reservation. Unfortunately, this request goes against our hospital policy and presents legal issues as well. *I never asked anyone to "falsify" anything, and I am offended by the accusation, and deeply resent the implication. She did indeed receive the first shot, and she had a reaction to it--which I reported to your staff immediately. After that, the follow-up shot was declined--WAY before any other shots or boosters had been scheduled. I was offered again, when she went in for her Rabies booster and AGAIN I declined. However, I did want it noted on her shot record that she received the FIRST shot BECAUSE SHE DID! The expiration date of that shot is ALSO clearly noted on the certificate. There was no request or attempt to falsify anything. Since you became a client in April 2021, there have been multiple times where you have shown little respect to my support staff, demanding to be seen when our schedule is full. We have done our best to provide excellent care for Athena. Even when we do work Athena into our full schedule, based on your past email surveys, it appears we do not meet your expectations. *I would like you to offer specific examples for the claims here. There were three occasions that I interacted with your staff over misinformation--one to clarify information I was given precisely about vaccine protocols; the second was to clarify your scheduling procedures and have some peculiar protocols explained. The third was to clarify that I had NOT consented to enrolling my animal in your regular "wellness plan" or any other automatic payment plan once her Puppy wellness plan had ended. That encounter happened in person and your charge nurse/desk manager explained that it was an "automatic rollover" and that is why did not receive any other paperwork. I made it clear that was not what I wanted, and PAID MY BILL IN FULL. As I have since I began receiving service at your clinic. A client-patient-doctor relationship is built on trust and good communication. We have decided that we cannot continue to serve you as a client at our veterinary clinic. Please let us know where you would like us to send Athena's medical records. *Indeed, great minds think alike. After my pet's last visit to your establishment I had indeed entertained the very same sentiment. Your facility is very clean and neat and you go to great lengths to keep it very sterile--all very appreciated by me--an educated, resourced, mindful, unabashed advocate for my animal's health and safety. HOWEVER, I am VERY sorry to report that your clinical process, patient engagement and the "bedside manner" of some of your staff was EXACTLY as cold, clinical, sterile and deeply impersonal as your facilities. NOT ONCE did any of your staff engage me in any kind of communication about the general health and/or welfare of my animal. NOT ONCE did any of your technicians check in on us--even though we arrived EARLY for our appointment; NOT ONCE did any of your staff do anything to make us feel welcomed or at home in ANY WAY; We SAT in an isolated room for 30 minutes AFTER our appointment arrival time, to see a doctor (who mis-named me) and actually examined Athena for a GRAND TOTAL of 10 minutes. "Well Dog" exam indeed. She asked me a total of 4 questions, and was GONE before I had a chance to even learn her name! Truly, I've had better service from your staff when your patient engagement protocol relied on clients just sitting in the car... *I am very aware that the Age of COVID has forced all of us to reshape and revise many of our communal expectations and our standards for interaction as we move forward in these uncertain times. I call me crazy, but I'd like to think that COVID protocols have not entirely wiped out things like caring, compassion, empathy and simple humane interaction. Yet--with only a few standout exceptions--I have found there to be a serious dearth of those essential qualities in your establishment, No pet parent ever really WANTS to be in the vet's office--for any reason. The responsible ones expect to be met with the development of a partnership that includes care, consideration, and acknowledged VISIBILITY for the client as co-creator of the experience NO MATTER HER BACKGROUND or RACE. Yes, indeed, sometimes I got the distinct feeling that if my race had been different, I might have received something more closely resembling the respectful treatment I have the right to expect. read more

Update - The owner of the clinic called me directly to understand what exactly happened, how they can improve and if they can fix what happened. She seemed genuinely interested in why I was so unsatisfied with my experience with them. In the end we agreed some additional training of their front desk and phone staff is needed to avoid situations in the future. I appreciate the clinic trying to make things right and being concerned with an an unsatisfied customer. Hopefully this will lead to more focus on details and customer service by the clinic. Original post - Been taking both of our pets here for several years, but have stopped now. Final straw for us was a call about a week before an already expensive procedure ($500+ teeth cleaning...booked several weeks ago) saying we had to bring our dog in for a "senior wellness exam and blood work" before having that procedure done. This second "required" appointment in the past has cost at least $200-$300. One would expect the information regarding an additional $200-$300 required appointment might be best brought up when the initial (and expensive) appointment is originally scheduled? People need to not only budget the fully out of pocket costs for these expensive vet procedures, but also need to have time to schedule appointments more than one week out. read more

The staff at Atlantic have gone above and beyond for me and my rescue dog Roscoe! He's an extremely difficult Formoson Mountain Dog rescued from Taiwan, likely a stray street dog who wasn't socialized... suffice it to say, he has a lot of issues, especially fear aggression :( But the staff at Atlantic are undaunted in their compassionate and firm manner with him, handling him with care and confidence. But what really prompted me to write this review was their understanding in helping me with his prescriptions during the pandemic - they really went above and beyond! First, this is a mixed review, meaning that I have had both good and bad experiences which averaged out makes them "A-OK" in my book, and also meaning that I will continue to take my furred family members here. I don't know about you, but choosing a vet that is close to my home is muy importante to me. When an animal emergency strikes, I can't afford to drive too far in order for them to receive medical care because when your little guy or gal is not feeling well, minutes can seem like YEARS. Atlantic is conveniently located right off of Rainier Ave S. and is easy to access with their own parking lot. They get 5 stars for Elma and Jamie returning your call for an emergency appointment. They are always quick and I appreciate the empathetic approach when we discuss my critters. The not-so-positive experiences have mostly stemmed with the previous owner, Dr. Battegier (sp?). To reflect another review I read, his approach was vague, and I never seemed to know what I was paying for. Bedside manner was not a strong suit either, but that is neither here nor there since he no longer owns the clinic. So I was pleased to learn that ownership had changed in between the last times I was there. Bedside manner and post check-up communication from one vet was not so good (1 star) but my cat's problem was fixed, so I can't complain too much. On the other end of the spectrum, I highly recommend Dr. Roberti on the bedside manner tip! She was soooo descriptive and informative that I nearly burst with happiness when I had to bring my dog in not too long after my cat crisis because I felt well-informed about what I needed to consider as options. The other vet that I did not jive with well DID do me a solid by not charging me $15 for daycare services when they heard I was returning with my dog--which I thought was cool after our last awkward conversation we had (4 stars). Really, I thought that was pretty darn nice. So again, all rounded out, I recommend them for convenience, competitive pricing, Dr. Roberti and the vet techs! They are our neighborhood vet. read more

While visiting my family on holiday, I received communication from my regular vet that my rescue Chihuahua Terrier mix blood test was mishandled from the lab. I have been in preparation for international travel, which requires advanced planning. Since my planned trip is in January and test results take up to four weeks, this would result in beginning the clock to restart again; placing me into a state of panic! Not having a vet in the area and no recommendations, I began immediately contacting various vet hospitals and clinics. After being frustrated and not finding a vet that I felt comfortable with, I turned to yelp for advice of other yelpers and found this veterinary hospital. Location was easy to find and had ample parking. Front office, waiting area, and exam room were VERY clean! I was impressed when I first walked into the front office, since it did not reek of animals. Dr. Echentile was the veterinary doctor who attended to my dog. I found him to be extremely personable, and my dog was pleased with him. His compassion for animals and wealth of knowledge for international travel, eased my concerns. Echentile answered all of my questions with ease and explained the necessary documentation that would be required; besides redrawing my dog's blood for testing. Our dog was cared for by Atlantic Vets well for over a decade. We were very happy with the care both by prior owner (Battinger) and current owner (Monahan). It is always clean, professionally staffed and pricing seems to be standard. Update: We recently determined it was time to day good bye to our old friend. Though heart breaking, the staff was so caring and compassionate during the process that they made it less wrenching than it might have been. The vet explained the whole process and made sure we were all as comfortable as possible. Am grateful for their thoughtfulness on a very sad day. read more

We see Dr. Munroe, and she is a great vet-- knowledgeable and patient for all of our questions. Unfortunately we had a bad experience with CJ, the vet tech. We went to learn and express our concerns about our dog's challenging behavior, and when we were discussing the issues with the vet tech she told us our dog's problems "are very easy to fix" in a very dismissive tone-- we felt like we were being shamed for seeking support. She continually cut us off when we were speaking and abruptly left the room before we had finished listing off our concerns. We felt like leaving right there but I am glad that we stayed because Dr. Munroe was very reassuring and gave us a lot of good information and was non-judgmental. It was a bummer. Atlantic Vet has been caring for my dog since he was a puppy and he's now 14 years old. The staff is friendly and the vets there are nice. They are responsive to emails which is great! If you let them know that cost is an issue, they will give you alternatives for lower cost treatments. The only caveat is that I hear that this vet hospital costs more than other places. The wellness plan is awesome, wish that existed when I was a poor student. Instead of getting one expensive bill for routine check-ups, it's a lower monthly fee spread across the entire year. I always refer dog owners to Atlantic. Atlantic Vet is always friendly, helpful, and very responsive to email questions and phone calls. As a first time dog owner, Dr Greenwalt's support was invaluable, especially after my dog came down with a serious illness. She answered questions over the phone and through email, and they hold emergency spaces so you don't have to wait if something comes up. They work to make sure appointments aren't stressful or hard on your pet. Scheduling is easy. Atlantic Vet helped me through my dog's illness so he could live as well as he could for as long as possible, and when the time came they helped his life end peacefully at home. Although Atlantic Vet Hospital is not my regular vet, I had to write this review to express my sincere thanks at helping me with an emergency situation. My cat caught but did not finish off a tiny mouse. Clearly the little guy was injured and I didn't know what to do. On the way to a wildlife rehab place, he took a turn for the worse so I pulled into Atlantic Vet Hospital. They were kind enough to see me immediately, euthanize him free of charge, and they even invited me to come to the back and stay with the little guy while it all happened. They were as respectful, professional and compassionate as if this were my beloved dog or cat. I will definitely be returning to Atlantic! Thank you! read more

Today was my first time here, and it was lovely! The staff were super friendly and they seemed genuinely excited to meet my new dog. There was virtually no waiting in the lobby, and after filling out the new dog paperwork I was taken straight back. Not only that, but my doggie had a few issues that required medications and topical treatments. The doctor worked with my budget to ensure my dog got the care he really needed, even while my finances are really tight. I'm so happy to find such a wonderful place so close to home! read more

Nice enough staff, way overpriced. I took my dog in to get a couple stitches behind her dewclaw, the price was a little over 400$. I expected it to be expensive, they asked me to bring her in a week later to check on it. I did this, it was healing but needed to stay wrapped so she didn't chew on it. I said I'd pick up a new wrap and do it, the nurse said no worries I have time to wrap it right now. 10 mins later I was handed a 20$ bill for an ace bandage. Months later she developed a bit of a limp due to getting older and playing hard. I took her to Newport hills vet and they prescribed her rymidal for arthritis (doggie ibuprofen) the price at Newport hills was 52$ for 30 and 78$ for 60 (they said they get a price break at that quantity) upon having this faxed to Atlantic they wanted just under 130$ for 60!!! They are close and convenient , but convenient enough to pay almost double. read more

I have been a costumer over 5 years and I am very happy that I found such a good veterinary practice in Seattle. What I love about it is that DVMs take time to meet my pets, they care about my concerns, educate, explain all the issues in detail and I always leave happy after the visit. On my last visit Dr Restis spent all the time needed with me and my pets, I felt very pleased with the service she provided. She is truly amazing! read more

I'm glad others have had good experiences here, but we didn't. It's not that they were bad... just mediocre and very lackluster in their approach. We took our dog to Atlantic for check-ups and other minor issues for around three years, and in all that time we never felt that Dr Battiger cared enough to really thoroughly assess her and think about what would improve her life (she's older and arthritic). In addition, we always received pretty vague and seemingly uninformed answers to any questions we asked. We switched to another vet in Seward Park, and there our dog instantly received the sort of thoughtful, individual attention we were seeking for her. Wish we'd switched earlier. read more

I recently took my dog in to have a scary red lump on his face looked at. It was our first visit to this vet and we came on a recommendation from a trusted friend. I'm so glad we did! Turns out my boy had a tumor on his face and I was freaking out for good reason. The good news was that it wasn't cancerous and the vet suggested just giving it some time to go away on its own. I really appreciated his conservative approach. He could have really played on my emotions and pressured me to have my dog put under anesthesia to have the tumor surgically removed. Instead he aspirated the tumor and sent it off to pathology. Sounds expensive, right? My total bill was less than $200. A month later, the tumor was gone, just as the vet had predicted. He had great bedside manner and knew what he was talking about. As a result, he is our new primary care vet. read more

She was smart, told me some things that were useful that I didn't know (toddlers can get hookworm from walking barefoot in a yard where an infected dog poops), agreed with me that my dogs very ugly red lump on his leg was probably a benign histiocytoma that would go away on it's own, so we didn't need to biopsy it quite yet (it literally started going away the next day), and told me about another doggy patient whose (severe) anxiety disorder was helped by prozac, and now I'm trying it for my hound. She's smart and convincing, but low pressure and didn't make me feel bad for not wanting to spend money I thought was probably not necessary. She'll be a good doctor to your pet. read more

So far, I've only taken my cat there once, but we had a very good experience. (Not her, she had a bladder infection.) The place was very clean, and all of the staff were very nice and helpful. I was so amazed with how he was able to interact with my cat. She's very mean, and usually claws the heck out of any vet or stranger, but he's the cat whisperer or something. She was more docile than I have ever seen her. They were a tad pricey (the reason for only 4 stars), but still reasonable. read more

Outstanding veterinary hospital. The owner, Dr. Laura Monahan, is a nationally recognized feline specialist. I was originally referred to her by a Board Certified feline vet who has served with her on national committees. Briefly, the standard of care is exceptional. I have seen every vet in the practice in the 7 years I've been a customer, and would comfortably recommend any of them. Their business practices are entirely straightforward -- as others have mentioned, they let you know in advance what charges will be incurred. They recommend tests only when actually needed. Perhaps most important for me, they truly consult with pet owners, working together to achieve pet wellness without breaking the bank. I have also referred multiple people to Atlantic over time, and all have had similar, excellent experiences. Even if you live a distance away, as I do, Atlantic Veterinary Hospital is worth driving to. read more

Dr. Robert Echentile totally missed an easy diagnostic and as a result my dog is dead. If my dog had been treated when I first noticed his lymph nodes being inflamed and brought him to Echentile 4 weeks ago, we would have had him around and healthy for another year if not more. Instead he told us that there wasn't anything to be concerned about. There were many signs that things were not right - he ignored/dismissed them all, despite our concerns. I loved that clinic when Dr. Batteiger had it, but he is no longer there, this clinic is not the same, don't be fooled by the good reviews - Dr. Batteiger was great and took care of our pets for years, he wouldn't have missed that one. We won't bring our other dogs there. read more

Excellent! Great care and service. I've been following Dr. Monahan for years after she provided a house call for me and my "passing away" kitty. And the office staff and techs are all kind and sweet. Compared to other top clinics in the Seattle area, this clinic is priced just as high. Overhead is high, I get that. However, Dr. Monahan has been helpful in discussing care costs with me and I also always discuss price up front before I go in or get anything done. Finally, I love that one is never judged by this clinic. Your concerns and that of your pets are both top priorities. I don't take my senior cat in every 6 months. Not going to happen. Actually, she will only go in for emergency care. But this clinic, while they make sure you know the pros of more frequent checkups for seniors, will never disrespect my decision. I've had trouble with other clinics on this issue in the past. read more
