I was brought here by a Canadian colleague, who talked it up something awful. I thought it might be like a Canadian version of O'Neills (and being Irish, I know what an insult this is!) I was pleasantly surprised! We went on a Friday lunchtime, got a table no problem and received some of the friendliest service I've ever experienced in London. I was then introduced to Sleeman's beer - an experience for which I will be forever grateful. Out lunch was tasty - not spectacular, but tasty. A nice burger. And then some more Sleemans. And then some more... read more

A very popular pub by the looks of it, it was hard to get a table when we went in there! I had a lovely beer that was flavoured with honey and was so yummy. The food was typical bar food, but good after a day of sightseeing, the nachos and BBQ ribs were good. Good atmosphere, close to everything, alot like the antipodean pubs in town. read more

Context is everything. If this pub was my local or even the area I live in, I'd probably give the Maple Leaf a wide berth. But given the surrounding pubs in Covent Garden, especially some of the hideous venues nearby, the Maple Leaf could even be described as pleasant. Let's get the bad stuff out of the way first. It does feel like a Canadian version of Walkabout or Wetherspoons, although is a step up from both. And at busy times the queue for the badly-positioned bar is unbelievable. For a recent rugby international it was taking around half an hour, if not longer, to get served at the bar and the staff, who, in fairness, were very friendly given how rushed they were, seemed genuinely surprised at the amount of people present. It's tempting to drop their stars from 3 to 2 just for this alone. But I've been in sports bars with much worse atmospheres for games, so you could do worse if you're in central London and want to catch a game. And they show ice hockey, which is rare. And when the crowds disperse and the place is busy without being rammed, it's perfectly passable. In this part of town, it's a description that counts for a lot. read more

I'm a big fan of NHL(Leafs) and of Canadian beers so this place is a great find! They've got all the best Canadian beers, Moosehead being my favourite. If you're here you should also try the wings! Monday night is wings night, 20 wings for 6 bucks! You can't beat that! read more

A little piece of Canada in the middle of London, and pretty well executed too. I wasn't the only Canadian there which is always a good sign and they have managed to make the place look and feel authentic. The food is really good and the beer is the usual Canadian mixture of blindingly good and absolutely p*** poor. If you're stuck in Convent Garden and want to make some friends. Pop in and enjoy. read more

I once watched some football here. Mostly because everywhere else was full. So if you're in central London and struggling for somewhere to watch sport it might be worth a try! Also if you're Canadian it might interest you! read more

A Canadian Pub in London, apparently this is the only place to serve the beer 'Molson' on tap, outside of Canada I'm not sure whether these claims are true or not, but regardless, it is well worth a visit. Located off a shopping street in busy Covent Garden, this is a relaxing and quiet pub to share a pint. There are big screen tv's showing a variety of Canadian sports, as well as the usual football matches. This is a little known retreat in central london and definately a place to try if you're looking for some genuine Canadian brew! I've yet to visit with Canadian friends, so i can't be a judge of how authentic this place is, but certainly it does the trick for me I would chose it over a lot of the other local watering holes and a friendly greeting awaits you here read more

I used to come here regularly and it was a good local with decent food and nice staff. With the new renovation they've taken out the carpet and it's always incredibly noisy now. :( read more

Really enjoyed this place. Wings were incredibly tender. Ribs were quite good as well. Good beer selection. Good service from friendly Canadians as well. read more

Staff isn't friendly - they couldn't have cared less that I was from Canada and super excited to be there. Customers told me there are other better places. I chose to leave and find a better place read more

Great pub near Covent Garden..great staff and the place looks great since the renovations..even the washroom is clean now!..wish they were open later ! read more

Friendly and welcoming staff, comfy table set ups and good selection of bourbon and other spirits! Huge selection of beers and ciders too! Honestly, the place has an amazing atmosphere and deserves more stars on its overall rating!! Definitely going to be my place to come for a drink and chill, music choices too are 100% on point! read more

Maple Leaf - Pubs Near Me - London, XGL

See all

I love coming to this Canadian pub - always a good atmosphere, good for groups (and welcoming for groups, as not all places in London are). Lots of sports games are aired here so can get a little full. Food wise you're looking at wings and poutines. Wings are good but can't vouch for the poutines as I haven't tried them. Nachos? Don't bother. They use those flavoured tortilla chips like Doritos instead of proper tortilla chips. Soft drinks are a little pricey - almost £3 for a pint of coke...Still I do love coming here and will continue to! read more

Woo hoo! A Canadian pub in the UK! Well I didn't really try the food, but it was a great atmosphere for meeting up for beers with friends (both Canadian and non-Canadian alike. I was stoked that they had Moosehead! I will be back, next time I'm in town. read more

This pub should be more exciting as a Canadian bar but other than a few wall decorations there is nothing particularly Canadian about it. The poutine isn't proper Canadian poutine. It's not a bad bar but nothing outstanding about it. read more

Great London sports bar that has about 4-5 TVs that show football matches including the pay channel ones. Came here for a Liverpool match and a Real Madrid / PSG game. For any Americans looking for a typical "sports bar" this is as close as it gets in London. Good casual sports bar with bar food and locals cheering on games. I don't know why most London pubs have zero TVs but it's difficult to find a sports bar in the tourist areas showing local sports. I tried The Round House nearby and they were showing CNN on their two TVs and said they don't show the pay channel football matches. Most others had no TVs. So if you want a sports bar this is the best I've found in London. Have fun! read more

Being Canadian we were immediately interested in what a Canadian bar in London would be like. As others have described, it's got the feel of a beer commercial. Hockey can be found as well as a stuffed black bear. The Canadian beer is really expensive. I remember seeing Keith's and Sleeman's and I imagine there was a load of Molson and Labatts (I've never met any Canadians who buy that crap but it's there for someone). The menu is basic pub food with a few odd things like pancakes thrown in for good measure. I had lasagna which had a piece of Kraft cheese on top - something I've never seen before even in Eastern Ontario, rural Quebec heck even in America. So... don't eat that. Otherwise a fun evening, I think we'd stop by again for a pint and a game. read more

Had a great time here celebrating Canada Day here while traveling in London! They probably serve the classic Canadian poutine dish. They also carry Moosehead beer as I recall? The space is very pub-esque, with some Canada-themed decor. It was funny to find a little piece of home in Covent Garden! read more

As a Canadian in London I love this place. The staff are friendly, they have Canadian beer on tap which you can get in pitchers, hockey is guaranteed to be on the screen when they can, and they did try to make a reasonably delicious poutine. Decor is a bit stereotypically Canadian, but that's the point and the stuffed animals, banners and Canadiana on the walls are sure to cure anyone feeling a little homesick. Unfortunately this place is only a small bit of Canada here in London and it falls a bit short a lot of the time. Poutine should not be made with shredded mozzarella and even though their gravy was delicious the chips weren't awesome. There is better poutine available in this city. The rest of the menu isn't really Canadianised pub food, it's just pub food. Moosehead and Sleeman's are ok Canadian beers but nothing screams Canada like Molson Canadian. It's not the best beer but it IS home. And it's generally inexpensive, so I don't understand why they don't have it. Lastly, and others have complained about this recently, they're poorly prepared for the number of people wanting to watch the Olympics there. They weren't taking reservations for any of the games but then had to lock people who wanted to watch out. It should be obvious that a Canadian bar in a country filled with Canadian expats is going to be pretty busy during a grudge match game, and for the gold medal game of the national sport. Negatives aside this is a must for Canadians staying in London, because it really does feel like you're sitting back in Canada for a little while you're here. Also, as Canadians are a friendly bunch you're like to leave for the night with a couple new friends and plenty of good memories. read more

The Maple Leaf tavern boasts of being England's only Canadian-themed pub. Other than on Canada Day (1 July) or during particularly important hockey games, though, you are unlikely to bump into many Canadians here. They obviously try hard, but their selection of Canadian beers is pretty limited and everything is overpriced. Their menu is basic pub food with the occasional half-hearted tip of the hat to "Canadian" elements. Unlike the Canadian bars in Paris (there are three of them), The Maple Leaf actually shows hockey, however, which is pretty important for rink-starved expats. As for the rest of the place, it's fairly elegant (i.e. not as kitschy as you might expect), and otherwise unremarkable. Go for the hockey; leave at the whistle. read more

Cute Canadian pub in the heart of Covent Garden. They play NHL games and serve Canadian beers- what more could a Canuck like me want?! :)

There is nothing Canadian about this place, especially the attitude of their employees. I won't even write a long story because I don't want to waste my time and energy. When I reached the bar and ordered a bottle of Canadian, this bartender said "I'm serving someone else" and walked away. Who says that to a customer? I visited this place to feel close to home and he totally ruined it. read more

A fun Canadian pub nearby Covent Garden. Good beer selection, and very good fish and chips. One thing to note: the large fish and chips is smaller than or the same size as the regular fish and chips. I don't know why this is so, but it is. read more

One of the worst pub experiences I have ever had. Extremely rude and unfriendly bartender. Tried to charge me twice but fortunately I had received a notification from my credit card as he was telling me my credit card was declined and asking me to pay again. I showed him the credit card charge on my phone and asked that he reverse the first charge before I would pay again. He flew into a rage and cut me off. Then he decided to cut off the people I was talking with, even though they had been paying separately. He is a thief and a spiteful jerk. Horrible place. read more

Average pub filled with Canadian flags and sport team memorabilia. Staff were friendly, and they have some arcade games. I didn't try any of the food, but didn't see anything really Canadian on the menu. read more

Walked in, so happy to find a bit of home while visiting London. Staff was unfriendly. What made it worse was that two large customers approached me - they looked me up and down and asked me what I wanted. I told them that I was from Canada, living in the USA, and was happy to find a Canadian place. They looked at me and told me that "I'd have better luck at a pub down the street as the food is better". I felt horribly intimidated - a big part because I look very middle eastern, and felt as if I was being profiled. Justified or not, it was the most un-Canadian feeling an establishment could give me. I went outside to snap a pic to post on FB, where I met an employee who was smoking while sitting on the curb. She gave me a stinkeye. I told her I was from Canada and excited to see the pub. She disregarded me. Avoid here. It's a bar that put up flags and pretends to be Canadian. Apart from the decoration, there's no real "canadian" feel here. read more

The Maple Leaf is a fun Canadian bar located in the heart of Covent Garden on Maiden Lane. I've been there a few times for some beer and wings (both of which are delicious - especially the wings!), and let me tell you, the place is pretty popular. It's quite big with lots of tables, making it a great spot for groups of people. Monday's they offer an £8 special on a batch of 24 wings (normally priced at £12), which I highly recommend. The service at the bar, however, can be a bit slow, especially when they're busy. However, I would most certainly come back and look forward to enjoying another batch of BBQ wings! read more

Definately has the log cabin feel to it.. feels like you should almost be walk outside its doors and onto the ski slopes. Unfortunately I would have expected them to have more export Canadian beers but think they only had the two Moose head and Corrs I beleive. The food here was average and the service was generally good considering how busy it was. read more

Came for a few beers and a rugby game. Place was packed, in and outside. Good vibe, fair prices, good people around us, and friendly staff. We have not tried the food nor went far into the drink menu. It was just convenient for the moment, easy to access and walk in. The street the bar is on, is full of bars, people and looks like one of those destination places to grab a beer with friends. For date spot while in the area, try Polpo restaurant in front of the pub. I will be back only for a Canadian related event, or if I am in the area. read more

Lovely Canadian pub! They have a terrific menu with lots of comfort food. I enjoyed their jacket potato with beans and cheese and their garlic ciabatta bread. I would come back again! read more

A popular drinking destination for nearly 2 decades. Time was it was one of only a handful of destinations in Covent Garden which wasn't a down-at-heel-boozer, you could get a reasonable pint (erm, molson) & an enjoy a lively atmosphere. But it can get cramped and to be honest things have moved on a lot in the area. So unless you're Canadian, it doesn't really hold anything special. read more

Good atmosphere and good food. Would recommend the salmon salad and stake with fries;)

It might not have all the Canadian beers, but it's still a little taste of Canada right in London. I ate the "Maple Leaf Burger" which was really good, and they serve some delicious honey brown ale on tap (can't recall the name). One of their bartenders at least is from Canada, so it adds to the authenticity. read more

Nice pub, worth a visit if you want a good atmosphere but also somewhere you can sit down and enjoy a chat with your mates. A quieter but very friendly pub. read more

Cold Canadian beer, what more could you want?

As a Canadian, I find the idea of a canadian pub theme hilarious. After all, most Canadian pubs are either sports bars or Irish pubs. The Maple Leaf is a decent pub, though I gag at the prices on green Moosehead (what was a cheap bottled beer in my uni days). It's the only place I can get an occasional hockey fix, though the games are taped since time differences make live viewing impossible. There is poutine on the menu, which is apparently a foreign idea to Brits. Cheese on fries? Awesome. Gravy on fries? Delicious. Gravy and cheese on fries? CRAZY! The staff aren't Canadian, usually, so don't ask. If you want to spot the Canadians, they are the ones who sound like Americans but will smile when you make eye contact. They may also be consuming said poutine and yelling at the TV screen should a hockey game be on. Generally, it's a great place to meet people because you can usually get a seat and actually hold a conversation. Decent food, decent beer. read more

My visit here was a very strange, yet interesting experience. I have never been to Canada and if I rely on the impressions I have from my night here, the country is awesome. I liked the brew I had and the food was just made and delicious. I recommend the pub to everyone who likes to try new things. read more

We went here for a drink on Halloween as a family. We had a Sleemans and a Moosehead IPA. My wife is Canadian so we all got our Canadian poppies. The table next to ours was a mother and daughter from Sault St Marie Ontario. The daughter was teaching in Dartford Kent UK and the mom wax over visiting. The only pity is the bar tenders were not Canadians although on on other occasions my wife and I have visited they have been. There is memorabilia like Oilers hockey jerseys etc. We like it. You are more likely than other places to meet Canadians as the High Commission is only round the corner. read more

So I was randomly dragged into here last night and I must say I was pleasantly surprised, starvin marvin I ordered the 'Buritto'. It wasn't quite what I had in mind but it was super tasty and we dubbed it the 'New Age Buritto' because if you open your mind and really look at it, it could be a buritto! Drinks were reasonably priced for the area and the Canadian lager went down a treat and I didn't have to cue too long for a drink :) I would definitely return if I'm in the area, what a little jem! read more
