A year after my visit to this pub, I think about it still. The staff was lovely and helpful and the food was incredible. The fish and chips were hot and crispy and not greasy. The draft aspall was cold and crisp. The only downside were the nearby seagulls trying to steal the chips off my plate. Plenty of inside seating if you don't want to risk losing your chips to the gulls though. Location was great, nearby to the Tate Modern, Globe Theater, and even walked from here to Borough Market. I would not hesitate to visit here my next time in town. read more

Hands down the best fish and chips we had during this trip (and quite possibly compared to other trips to London before). Granted we didn't run a train on all chippies in London-town, but the haddock here was DELICIOUS. The crust was perfectly crunchy without being greasy, and the insides were moist and tender. The triple cooked chips were outstanding too. The mushy peas were more aldente than most shops, but very good. And for the first time for us, given artisan malt vinegar when we asked for it. We reserved tables for the day after my daughter's wedding until 7pm. The menu is very limited and it is super noisy with music that nobody is listening to that detracts from conversation. At 6:15, wait staff arrived at our table to ask us to leave, despite the fact that we had the table reserved until 7pm, and it was even written on the table. Every 3 minutes a different rude person would arrive and ask us to leave and when my daughter asked what we should do with the food we ordered they said "That is your problem." We spend more than 1200 pounds before they too this attitude. When we vacated the table (with 15 minutes for them to clear the table (after the last waitress was ready to punch us) a party who was not involved in the booked event took it and were not evicted. This place has a great view but for food and attitude this is a HARD pass. read more

Just along the River Thames, situated just between the Blackfriar bridge and the state Modern is a lovely little riverfront pub called Founders Arms. On our trip to London we wanted to experience a full English breakfast, and Founders offered just that. There are other breakfast options, but the menu is not overly extensive. The breakfast was slightly pricey, but the meal more than makes up with it in size. The plate included 2 Cumberland sausages, grilled tomatoes, 2 fried eggs, a couple slices of smoked bacon, roasted mushroom, a blood pudding patty, 2 hash brown rounds, baked beans, and a couple slices of toast. It's a lot of food for even the hungriest of patrons. The flavors were lovely and worked really well together. Definitely spread the provided butter on the toast, it is delicious. The fried egg was less runny than I expected, but it was still delicious. Some tips: This pub doesn't open until 10am, so, if you are an early riser maybe consider grabbing coffee first at one of the lovely coffee shops either in Waterloo, the Burough Market Area, or the a small yet tasty shop near founders called FCB. You can explore the Thames as you wait for founders to open. Also, request a table either on the patio or inside along the windows so you can take in the breathtaking view of the Thames and the City of London. The Fully English breakfast is big, and if you're not especially hungry or maybe you're not much of a breakfast person, I would share this plate with others so everyone can taste all the components without getting overly "filled" on one. The outdoor seating is spacious, and there's a good selection of drinks, though it can get quite busy, especially on a sunny day. This was our first time stopping at Founders Arms after a long day of trekking the city and museum walking. Our server Izzy was phenomenal and one of the best parts of the establishment, extremely helpful and welcoming to some random Americans, helping with choice of beer, food recommendations as well as some help navigating. The Chicken Croquettes and Cordon Peppers were delicious, as well as some traditional pints from local breweries. We will be stopping in next time for a snack and a drink, but we what we really will be looking forward to is the outstanding service that was provided by Izzy. read more

Rude and unhelpful staff, to be concrete: short brunette girl with tattoos in both arms, piercings and septum nose ring. I tried to order some food. She told me that she needs to know the table number where I am, I pointed the table (actually was the closest table to the bar, number 307). My surprise came when she said "I don't know wich table is this one mate, I need a number". So, the bartender doesn't know the tables number? that's weird. I asked for Roast potatoes and gravy and she told me "we don't do roast potatoes here", I show her the menu pointing the item on it and she told me "I don't know wich potatoes, do you want chips or what?" in a very unprofessional and rude way. She didn't try to help at anytime. After that I decided to don't order anything and for sure i won't never came back to this pub anymore. I don't think that is the customer service a big company like Young's want to deliver to their customers. read more

Came here for a late lunch as it is one of the only pubs on the river in the spring sun. It has a wonderful location with outside seating in the sun and next to the river. Mid afternoon and virtually all the tables were taken. It was surprisingly easy to get both a drink and order our food, despite the numbers of customers, because of the numbers of service staff. They had a good selection of Youngs beers and food choice on their menu. We chose to have a seafood selection which wasn't cheap but was for 2 and at £27 was cheaper per person than nearly all the other main dishes. The total cost was about £40 for 4 beers and 1 dish which is expectedly expensive, but you do pay for the position and service. Fully recommend. read more

This is a great spot right on the Queen's Walk along the River Thames. If you're looking for a lively place with great beers and good food, where you can watch things float by on the Thames and people watch those who are walking down the Queen's walk, this is the place for you. In terms of service, I'm American, so I'm used to the table flippers here in the US that work for tips, which in turn means very snappy service. I think when us Americas travel overseas, the hardest adjustment is that service, while good, is not as snappy. Once you know this going in, your frustrations will ease. Understand that a meal is not a rushed event here. You are their guest for a good part of the evening. Having said all that, our server was very good and very patient. My party asked a few questions about the menu and all was handled with patience & class. I ended up getting the bangers (sausages) over mashed potatoes. British food gets a bad rap for being bland...not so with these awesome sausages. I paired them with a great local beer and considered my dinner here a delicious success. This place gets very crowded early in the evenings due to its popular spot, but if you can get here, sit near or window or even outside, you'll be a happy camper! Thumbs up! read more

Great place to eat with a waterfront view during covid. Good staff snd close to Tate Modern and Bankside gallery. It did seem a little unwelcoming at first, so that is part of why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. I made an account and ordered that way as I was asked to, but a lot of folks around me didn't register and seemed to get served faster and more often, so the system seems maybe not ideal? I did appreciate that there was a contactless payment and tracing method, and the views on the patio were great. I had the carrot parsnip soup, which was honestly fantastic. I would have been pleased just to get this dish. If anything, it set my expectations too high for the following course,, which was honestly disappointing. So definitely recommend going here for soup or appetizers snd not necessarily the mains. My burger was fine, but the chips were very bland and I didn't get any vinegar with them, or salt and pepper to add. The burger was a bit dry and also a bit under seasoned. The soup had fantastic seasoning, flavor, and texture. It may have been slightly saltier than I had expected, but the sourdough served with it was generous and didn't have oil or butter on it so it felt healthy and made the soup more fun to eat. I also appreciated that the chef thought about texture, and added poppy seeds and pumpkin seeds to the soup which was a nice, healthy surprise. Founders Arms is a really lovely restaurant pub. I stumbled upon it while I was walking along the South Bank sightseeing. It was just about supper time while I was walking along the water and I really didn't know where to find some grub. I didn't have very high expectations for this place because it looked like your typical tourist trap; but since I was your typical tourist, I decided to be trapped for the lack of knowing another place to go. I was pleasantly surprised. The obvious thing is that, of course, this pub has a beautiful view along the river. I opted for an indoor table (didn't want to weather the cold) at the window so I enjoyed a nice view along with my beer and food. The food was pretty good - I had the Medley of Sausages, and a side of Chips & Garlic Mayo. The prices were fair, especially considering the location - that alone deserves an extra star from me. The menu even has a cool map at the bottom that shows you what buildings you are seeing thanks to the great view. Nice little touch for this tourist to enjoy! read more

The views, the views, the views....there is nothing like sitting outside sipping one of the many beers this place has and enjoying the view of London looking at St. Paul's Cathedral and all the bridges. If you are a bit cold, just grab a blanket and sit below one of the heat lamps. After a few beers you can head over to the Tate Modern which is 2 minutes away. This is a really nice pub with a large outside terrace that commands fantastic views of Saint Paul's Cathedral just across the Thames. Due to its location close to several major attractions I imagine it's inherently a popular place and always busy as a result, but despite that with so much seating it still did not prove too difficult to find somewhere to sit on our visit. The view alone makes this a great place to relax after taking in some of the many tourist attractions around here. If you're visiting Saint Paul's this is a pleasant stroll away over the Millennium Bridge. After the scary climb up Saint Paul's dome we needed to chill for a few, this was the perfect place!!! They have a good selection of beers and the service was really fast and friendly. We did not try food here so can't speak to its quality, though what we saw others eating looked good so I have no doubt it is. We would definitely come back here next time we find ourselves in London. read more

On our last night in London, we decided to take a stroll by the Thames and dine al fresco at Founder's Arms. It seemed to be a popular spot for the local crowd, with food, drinks, and conversation enjoyed by all. It was pirate night, so a free pint was had by those dressed up appropriately! Both food and drink is ordered at the bar. Drink in hand, you take your flagged number to your table to wait for food to be brought along. It was a gorgeous night by the Thames, with heat lamps providing some ambiance and warmth amidst the cool fall breeze. Pimm's Cup The GF and I decided to try the traditional Pimm's. Refreshing and not cloyingly sweet, this was easily quaffable and the perfect drink to enjoy our night. The Best of British [16 Pounds = $26.22] Pork & caramelized onion Scotch egg, pork pie, Denhay cheddar, Gammon ham, sausage roll, Branston pickle, gherkins, freshly baked bread Go big or go home right? I went with the Best of British, which was a huge slab of pretty much everything. Plenty of scotch eggs filled with hard-boiled egg and sausage, Gammon ham, pork pies, sharp Denhay cheddar, and freshly baked bread. The Branston pickles and gherkins really made the dish though, providing much needed acidity to break up the heft. The accompanying strong British mustard provided a countervailing element to all the meats. Still, there was no way I could finish this feast. Young's Battered Haddock Fillet [12 Pounds = $19.67] Fries, mushy peas, tartare sauce The GF enjoyed the fish and chips, which were crisp, flaky, moist, and thankfully, without bones. The chips were nicely crisp. The mushy peas were well-seasoned and rounded out this ubiquitous dish. Garlic & Thyme Sweet Potato Wedges [3.50 Pounds = $5.74] Do get the sweet potato wedges. Not overly done with garlic, the wedges were perfectly crisp on the outside and lusciously creamy within. Delicious. Overall, Founder's Arms really hit the spot. It seems like the perfect venue to grab a pint with some friends while enjoying the beauty of London across the Thames. read more

The Founders Arms is just beside the river on the South Bank which makes it a lovely location in the summer. It is one of those pubs which is nice but average, and I wouldn't choose it if I fancied a rip roaring evening. I came here once after watching a show at the Globe Theatre and despite it being past kitchen hours, the staff still managed to put together a few appetisers for us which was nice as most places are very regimented about when they will stop serving food. This is generally a nice little pub and good for a lunch time drink but does lack a certain charm or atmosphere. read more

The Founders Arms is a large pub on the South Bank, about 5 minutes walk away from the Tate Modern. It is quite a large pub with a large decked outside seating area. It is one of the only pubs along this stretch and is a pleasant enough place to be if a little bland. From most seats inside you have a view across the river. Outside they have space heaters so as long as it's dry it's not a drag to be there. The bar is well stocked and the service decent. A perfectly fine pub, though unfortunately only distinguished by its location. read more

It is a very busy place and it is a little unclear how to order or get a table. I had to ask around. The hamburger i had was good--nothing to be excited about. Everytime I am back in London i will always take a walk down along the southbank. This time was no different and before going to the Tate I decided to go here and dragged my niece along with me, for a pre-art lunch. The location is great, with one side having great views of the Thames. The restaurant is also very spacious and airy, and the staff really friendly. I ordered the steak and ale pie with Mash, it was top nosh although did not care much for the greens. The pie itself was cooked perfect, and very not too dry or saucy once the crust was breached. Niece had the fish finger sandwich which came with chips, the sandwich was not your typical frozen food aisle fish fingers but actually nice pieces of fish. Overall a great place to eat, it really did get busy around 12. Only downside was not being able to put the order for lunch until 12pm, it would have been fine to just take the order and bring the food once ready. read more
