My son and I were visiting from the U.S. and we looked for quirky pubs for dinner. This place fit the bill. You could spend a month looking at all of the photos, stickers, and items on the wall. We sat outside since the weather was nice. Despite having to sit near a guy who had to make sure all of London could hear him, it was great. We both got a couple of beers and I got the Lord Nelson, a burger with with bacon and egg. It was really good, but impossible to eat like a hamburger. Service was great! read more

We ate here today & though the vibe as a pub is generally good & staff all seemed nice, we came for food, which sadly I think nobody at our table was thrilled with what arrived & even less thrilled to be charged more than menu prices, because theres more than 2 in our party. It's a pub, not a restaurant & compared to elsewhere, the food was already over priced for what we received. I ordered salmon with potatoes & salad. The salmon itself was nice enough, though nothing special, but I barely had 4 small pieces of potato & the salad though large enough to hide the lack of other food on the plate, was the most basic tasteless salad I've ever had, I think the 1970s want their no dressing, lettuce cucumber & tomato boring old salad back. I couldn't eat all of the salad as it was so bland. I would have killed for a few more spuds though as I left still hungry. My husbands fish & chips were "okay, not the best, but nice enough" but a much smaller portion than is usual elsewhere & for less money. so again disappointing & we heard similar complaints from the rest of our party, small portions, overpriced & the extra charge for more than 2 people is a pee take, so I doubt very much that we will eat here again read more

We came over from the States for a few days and this place was a Godsend! We traveled with two families, three girls and a boy all younger than 12 and they had everything we needed. We came here in July and ordered 2 burgers and 2 beers. The burgers were pretty good and decent size. Although Sol and I aren't big beer drinkers, we couldn't come to London and not order brews. Good vibe! Let me tell you about the size of those sausages! Had to be 1 foot long. Brilliant! What a wiener! Also, the beer was solid. Nice staff. And honesty there couldn't be more stuff on the ceilings. Ranging from Olaf of frozen to random posters and even the bathroom has a picture of Meghan markle that says poo on on the door of the loo! Dinner 5 pm on a Tuesday. Read reviews about this place and had to give it a try since it's close to where we are staying. Ample seating inside at 5 pm, but mainly because it was a hot day. You seat yourself and order at the bar. Be aware the kitchen is not open all the time so check the website to make sure you come during open kitchen hours. As others have noted, very eccentric atmosphere inside. VERY unique menu! I had the Elvis - peanut butter and bacon; my son The Full Napolen - brie, bacon, grilled onions and garlic mayo. Both burgers were delicious! Fries also quite tasty. The local sauce they provide on the side was very spicy but a great change of pace from ketchup for the fries. My only complaint about the burger is both were cooked well done, so not as juicy as I prefer; otherwise, thick and tasty. The service was extremely friendly. Very nice folks working here that work are intentional about making you feel welcome. Highly recommend! I'll be back for sure. read more

We randomly came across this pub while walking around, and I am so glad we did! I loved the vibe-very quirky, cool artwork, and very down to earth. Order at the bar for drinks and food. There are very generous student specials (wish they applied to Americans) but generally everything is well priced. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about beer. They had some interesting ciders, pale ales, and west coast style IPAs. Burger menu is extensive but I can't vouch for anything personally. Bathrooms are clean. It seems mostly locals here so if you're a tourist definitely come here for an eclectic British pub experience! read more

So we came in here to check out the horse burgers and boy were we treated to a cool place! The décor is really fun and kitschy. The place was super packed, but lucky we called earlier to book a table. Most pubs don't let you book, so that was a nice surprise!! A co-worker and I decided to split the horse burger and the wild boar burger so that we could try a bit of everything. The server warned us beforehand that the kitchen was pretty stacked up and it would take about 20 mins to get the food. When the food came it was on a huge plate. It came with a tablespoon of coleslaw, a small salad, and chunky chips. The horse burger was very... interesting. It's a bit hard to describe, but I'll try anyway. It was kind of like a really, really strong tasting beef burger. It was a bit like the smell of the grill when you walk past one of the burger vans near a football stadium. It wasn't bad, but I don't think I'd order it again. The wild boar was a much lighter burger. It came with two patties. This tasted a bit like the mix of a pork and beef burger. The sauce options were varied. There was a garlic mayo, ketchup, BBQ, and a homemade spicy smurf sauce which was a bit like a Nando's hot sauce. Defo try the hot sauce. The servers were really friendly and the bill was reasonable. I would definitely stop in here again. All the other items on the menu look amazing and I really want to try the Hoff burger! read more

Atmosphere, reasonable beers on Tap and a wonderful staff made this place so memorable I had to go twice during my 5 day stay in London. Wait... plus the stunningly huge Burgers with endless amounts of Fries was spot on a filling experience. The first evening I arrived at an early 4:55pm to a room filled with about 6-7 ofld timers enjoying pints of beer. The walls are pleasingly cluttered with 80's memorabilia, anime characters and enough random objects to keep a lone diner busy. Bartender recommended the Ale of tap and it was the perfect start. Went with the most massive burger #3 that had the toppings of all toppings spicy pulled pork (the kind waitress mentioned this was for a limited time). The burger arrived and it alone was massive but the incredibly generous portions of everything else had me wishing I had brought a friend to join... felt so bad to have left-overs. Pulled pork simply delicious and the burger perfectly juicy... I will definitely go back just for the great service but the burgers were to perfection. A must in LONDON!! read more

Chosen for its five star yelp review and close location to where we happened to be. What a find!!! This place looks like a mash up of the 90s and took me back simultaneously to my youth and uni days! Don't be put off though, this is not a union! We were heading in for some food and the menu is predominantly burgers and that is what I highly recommend!!! The list is long with all sorts of weird and wonderful combos. I went for the 'Aloha' - hand made beef patty, cheese, bacon and pineapple! Yum yum yum! I had every intention of taking a picture to make my other half envious and scoffed half of it before I remembered!! Oh well, serves me right for my mean intentions, but it was totally worth diving straight in. The portions are huge and bulked out with yummy crispy wedges. Note of caution, anyone particular about their ketchup be warned, you will not find any branded varieties! The drinks are not expensive and the JD bottle has a funny sign on it saying -'JD, sippy sippy , nom noms' this pretty much sums up my attitude and has kept me amused since I went. Without a doubt the best pub American style diner in the UK hands down. A perfect combination of good food, value and portions with an small injection of typical british humour. Take for instance their (supermarket chain) Burger: Beef Burger with some Horsemeat. All the way to full on crocodile burgers along with standard fare Beefburgers with onion rings, packed with cheese and other extras. The range of food is great, and for those cash strapped, there's even a value menu of items under £5. But let's be honest, you're here for the burgers. Portion size as others will comment is huge. With chips and proper Slaw standard for most of the burger and sandwich dishes. Personaly the BLT is my favourite, the biggest i've ever seen and quite hard to finish. But when you do, you're satisfied because you've conquered it and leave happy that you won't need to eat again till the following day. Service is great. The employees are attentive and will helpfully describe food options and cater towards preferences. The only small downside is that it's near impossible to get or book a table for a medium largish party between 12-2pm on a Friday, since the place is extremely popular that day. Try the rest of the week if heading there around lunch. This is seriously one of those places that misses out on trade because it can't accommodate all the potential patrons. I love this place, offbeat, quirky, just marching to their own drumbeat, that´s how I like it! We found it after a loooong afternoon at the Tate Modern and it was just the perfect unpretentious place, off the beaten track, for a drink and snack plus to hang out and relax. The kitchen takes a break after lunch and starts 5pm for dinner again. The Burgers are BIG! Not the best, but totally fine, I hear they even do BBQ on Wknds outdoors. What a quirky, cool pub! Boasting itself as serving the best burger in town - this place definitely has a lot going on. Sadly I didn't try the burgers, we had pizza and chips but they were enjoyable. I saw a few burgers flying around though and I must say, they did look pretty epic so I'll definitely be back to try one soon. The thing that wows about this place however is the decor. From the seaside themed bar with teddies hanging from the roof, to a Justin Bieber watch on the wall, to painted blue sky and flowers on the walls. They really went for it with tacky creativity but I kind of loved it. The staff were friendly and I must say the music being played was top notch. True 90s pop which I am a huge fan of. Sometimes fortune spins her wheel and you land on something awful or miserable or straight up nasty. And other times, fortune slows her wheel a bit in your favor and you hit the jackpot. Jackpot is what we got with Lord Nelson. The place definitely out of the ordinary in terms of in interior - I feels like a man cave for a grown up skateboarder. It's eclectic and down right irreverent to the extreme. And I mean that in a good way. The wall art/paintings, the stickers and posters, the pictures, all of it creates a very cool vibe that doesn't align with the traditional neighborhood pub. The food was fantastic. Great offerings with what we felt were an American edge. We loaded up on burgers and fish and chips. All fresh and tasty food. The service was unexpectedly good. I say unexpectedly only in that one would presume that a cool pub that has good food, doesn't need to have great service too. But they did. Our bartender/waiter (you order at the bar), was very helpful making recommendations on food and drinks. He checked on the ingredients of their veggie burger and let the kitchen know about certain allergies we had in our group. He seemed very eager and ernest in his helpfulness. I began my two month stay in London with this epic-find of a Pub. And I ended my trip by coming back to see if it was real. It was, and it is! It's the type of place you want everyone to know about, but you don't want it to become too trendy - because it is a perfect place to drink and party with your friends and make new ones! Simon and his crew (Daniele T.) are the friendliest, most hospitable folk I have had the pleasure of meeting. I will start off by saying I haven't eaten here, as a lot of people have. But in terms of a cool, quirky place to go and get a drink . . . this one is one of my favourites in London. Decor is kitschy but I think that adds to the welcoming feel of this place; from the mismatched furniture, to the posters and sticks plastered on the wall, and the toys hanging from the ceiling above the bar (I think these used to be bras before, traded in for free drinks in the past - but don't quote me on that). Plus even though this place is small, and people pour out of their beer garden on Friday nights, the seem to have a decent amount of space in the back. I know London is all about real ales, and fancy cocktails, which I haven't really experienced in this location, but you can get a gin and lemonade and a beer for less than £10 and it's in Zone 1. I think the atmosphere definitely makes up for the lack of drinks selection. And they have student discounts to boot! read more

No matter where you end up, make The Lord Nelson your local. When someone (i.e. me) suggests a spontaneous round of shots after work, it usually gets a bit messy. After a showdown at the Lord Nelson, all spontaneity is more than welcome. In the midst of all the rather handsome wall collages*, comfy sofas, retro toys, comic book-laminated table tops, tropical garlands and friendly bar-squirrels (Not a real squirrel, mind. But hey, you can't have everything...), I instantly felt at home. The staff didn't know us from Jack, but we were instantly greeted like old friends: with a round of free Nutella shots, followed by some fruity strawberry shots that tasted like yoghurt. These were all lovingly washed down with a round of Pimms slush-puppies, followed by Malibu served in a coconut. A proper greeting, it was indeed. If getting all of your five-a-day in one round doesn't make you feel like it's your birthday, maybe the pressies and activities will. After being given mix CDs, we were challenged to a tournament of super king-sized Garden Jenga, which (as there's no proof suggesting otherwise) I won. There's also an outdoor seating area sporting a BBQ every Friday, providing infinite chances for me to one day grow a pair and try their infamous horse burgers. If you ever find yourself in the Waterloo/Southwark area, pop in for a few. If you're lucky, you might even bump into me whilst you're there. Only came here for drinks but was really pleased with my time here. Fun, energetic and great atmosphere, the Lord Nelson is really one of the best pubs I've been to. Decent price for drinks, plus they have a special student discount on one brand of beer which is actually pretty decent. The walls are covered in fun decoration (Noel Edmund's face?!?), the music is great and they have a nice little beer garden as well. Lord Nelson had some good student deals (although I'm not a student)! So it would be great if they could have some deals for non-students too considering a lot of people work near. It has a very fun environment as there are board games, and its decor is fun and busy. We played Jenga with a few drinks and had a great night and didn't want to leave! It is a shame their menu is a bit overpriced, as it would be great to have a cheap eat there. Nice and fun place to visit, but would love to try their food if it was less expensive. read more

I don't understand the rave reviews. We sought this place out based on Yelp, were super hungry, and were still quite disappointed. I tried the bison burger and my wife got the Napoleon, and they were ok, but nothing really special. Lots of extra toppings on burgers doesn't automatically mean they are good. The chips were bland wedges. The vibe was unique and chill but the food didn't make it worth it. Staff was great. If these are the best burgers in London then I feel sorry for London. read more

It's great - nostalgic 90s and nerdy place without being contrived or manufactured - and the place is not brimming with hipsters. The service was lovely and we got a burger which was pretty immense. It's well lit up inside with good windows, so didn't feel guilty about being inside a pub on a sunny afternoon - though there are outside benches.
