Salmon & Dill Fishcakes
Cody Y.

Hip yet old fashioned and very British, The Centre Page is laying on the atmosphere thick, almost making up for the average food. I had to order Fish & Chips....right? I'm in London - I don't think they would let me leave the country without ordering the signature dish (I look forward to your angry yet still polite emails Londoners for my broad generalizations). After getting caught in the rain outside St. Paul's Cathedral, my girlfriend stopped by for lunch. The interior is designed to give you the old British pub feel, with lots of hardwood and a little dark with a long inviting bar in the corner. You'll definitely feel like you're in England, just in case there was any doubt. My girlfriend and I order the Famous Fish & Chips (£10.25) and the Salmon & Dill Fishcakes (£9.95). You should know going in you get a lot of bang for your buck - our entrees were massive and a good value for the price (when we were there it was $0.60 to £1). The Fish & Chips weren't bad - the fish was lightly breaded and friend, easy to cut apart and cooked very well. It may be because it's a somewhat simple dish, but I wasn't too impressed. The fries were also unremarkable, just your standard french fry. The mushy peas were a pleasant surprise and arguable the best part of the dish. The Salmon cakes were far better than the Fish & Chips, and I loved the egg on top and the fresh salad on the side. Overall, if you want standard British food at a surprisingly reasonable price in a really cool looking restaurant, you won't be disappointed with the Centre Page.

Seems to be a theme here, lots of good reviews for fish and chips. Well, adding mine. Great little pub, friendly service, and excellent fish and chips with smashed peas. We don't like to spoil our appetites for dinner, and one was plenty to share for two. Great beer too. Would return without hesitation. Dogfish IPA is a bonus.

Fun, chill and pretty local English pub. Liked the fact that it had a lot of history and that they used cute paper soakers that you can read

Came here with a group for dinner as part of a pre-arranged tour. Food was basic, but sufficient. There was no choice of menu, but the food was decent - chicken and potatoes. We were seated downstairs in the group dining room (so not in the main restaurant/pub area), but upstairs seemed like a fun atmosphere. Not sure if I'd go out of my way to come back here, but it wasn't a bad place at all - just basic/simple.

The menu.

The Centre Page is a pleasant, traditional pub tugged away in a corner between the Millennium Bridge and St. Paul's Cathedral. You can easily miss it when you're walking by, the entrance is very modest indeed. The pub itself is comfy and has a nice atmosphere, and the inside is bigger than you'd think. Service is average, and so are the beer selection and the pub grub. But the prices are moderate and the portions huge - perfect place to fill up without getting robbed. The decor is all wood, different styles and sizes of tables, even for larger groups. Better to order from the bar (quicker; otherwise the waitresses might not notice you depending on which corner you're sitting in). Had a mixed grill with steak, lamb shank, chicken breast, gammon and a sausage, plus onion rings, fried eggs, a flat mushroom, chips and two dips. The girl behind the bar even asked how I wanted the steak. Not top drawer meat quality, but okay, and lots of it. Left well-fed and happy. Beer prices are the usual for London now. 4 pounds plus for a pint. Would go there again.

Traditional pub with a nice atmosphere and decent beers on tap. If you're in the vicinity, go and get a pint, you won't be disappointed.

We went to more than a dozen pubs while in London and the surrounding area on vacation recently so…read morewhile reviewing them, I'm trying to focus on what made each a distinct memory/experience for us. My wife actually booked dinner reservations in advance for Ye Old Cheshire Cheese, it was one of a few we did that for rather than just popping in. For some of these, Cheshire included, it isn't a bad idea if you want a full meal to do so as it gives you a table in a dining area that is quieter than the More raucous areas of the pub and guarantees you plenty of elbow room to dine. Every pub has fish and chips, and we had our share of it during our 8+ day trek, but my wife swears by this place as having the absolute best. I'd likely agree with that--we both had the traditional fish, chips, peas platter and every bite was great. We had a few slices of sourdough to hold us over while waiting for those plates. My wife had a bit of wine, and I tried a lager, lower ABV ale, and a pour of scotch opting for their "house" scotch. The spirits/beer menu was the same I saw used at a couple of what I think must be "sister" pubs all using the same distilleries and brewers. We were too full to try dessert. Service was friendly. Not sure if it was the vintage of my scotch or her wine, but price-wise this was by far our priciest pub visit in the area and I can't quite point my fingers at why, but I don't regret our meal and time here. As for historic interest, you can find pictures and placards of many of the pubs famous patrons from history--Dickens, Mark Twain on visits to London, etc. A first edition of a Dickens' book adorned a post by our table.

Cool pub dating back to 1300s?…read more Fish and chips were great. Price was okay given its a popular and historic spot. Beer was excellent and prices reasonable Only complaint was the dining area was extremely quiet on a Friday afternoon. A little strange for a pub

We arrived just after the work day, and the crowd was buzzing just outside. We did the self-seating option indoors, and sat down to a great view of the Thames river, as we pondered our meal choices from the menu. The location is just great. For a leadoff drink, I had to go with the house cask ale, which was the Fuller's ESB, a drink I've been enjoying since the 1990's, and it delivered as expected. I went with an order of Sausages with mashed potatoes and peas...it doesn't get much more classic than that, and I was happy with it, especially with the quantity (3 sausages!). Wifey was on the hunt for a meat pie, and she went with the Steak, Ale & Mushroom Pie, which I can report was wholeheartedly approved. One of the better pies we've had on the overall trip, and the best we had at a pub location. The overall vibe of this pub is exactly as you might picture it, and we weren't disappointed with any aspect. Service, though not overly patient (hey - they were busy), was competent and pleasant. Cheers!

Great pub in the City of London. Found it while walking near the River front after crossing north…read moreover London Bridge. Casks, drafts, lots of seating - both indoor and outdoor. They had billiards and some other entertainment. Quick service.
