    Shepherd's pie
    Ben L.

Came here on my first night in London and it was a great experience. The shepherd's pie was excellent and the gravy paired very well with it. Great craft cocktails and appetizer selection. Classic pub atmosphere. The only thing to be desired was the service was a little slow.

Great local pub. We had diner and beers. The meat pie was awesome. My son loved the Fish & Chips too. Lots of options.

We visited several pubs in the area, but couldn't find a place that felt super homey! We kept looking and finally found the Clarence!!! Naimin is the bartender and he walked us through the ordering process and told us the best place to sit. He was attentive and wanted us to enjoy everything about the place. Even though the place was busy/--we felt like the vips---Naimin went out of his way in every way! ( not sure about the guy on the wall--who is he???). Food was delicious!!! Love it here!!

Service was friendly. Our waitress helped us pick out the right gin and mixer. This pub offers a variety of top quality gins and whiskeys. Our food was good pub food and portions were plentiful. We ordered lamb shepherds pie, a burger, a steak in a pie and a macaroni and cheese.

The bar area... Plenty of beers to choose from!

Came here at mid day for a late lunch, a few beers and to simply unwind after an international flight. I was not disappointed! The service here is first rate. They are very friendly and helpful in providing suggestion as the selections of beer is favorable. For this visit I had the fish and chips which was really good both in quality and quantity. My only complaint is the peas were really good, but not enough were served. If your visiting Buckingham palace and looking for a family friendly place that will not cost much , then this is the place to come as it's a nice walk through the park. It's also close to the Green Park tube station.

Caught in the midst of fashionable high flying london, The Clarence is a much sweeter alternative to many of the neighboring pubs and wine bars. I wouldn't say this was the best Nicholsons pub I have been too.. its a little too small, and the beer selection was not great. If your into ornate and embelished deco, do look at the ceiling as it is not far from grand. It can get terribly busy due to the fact there are not alot of other pubs ( with out being a member) not get into.

In our tourist seach for English Breakfast, this was one of the places recommended by a Londoner on our 2nd day in London. After trying about 4-5 other restaurants/pubs for English Breakfast, this is probably one of the best ones by far. For £4.50, you get a lot for your money. The quality of the food was great and the service was very helpful. The only thing with this English breakfast is that you have to pay for your tea/juice/coffee and is not included in the meal. Wanted to end our London trip with the Clarence, but they were not open on a Tuesday morning. Go figure...

English mustard slow braised beef... DELICIOUS!!

I ate here TWICE on a trip recently... good atmosphere & good drinks/food... I am from the US & wanted some local food to try, I had the fish & chips & the English mustard slow braised beef, both were delicious but the beef was beyond expectation! I would recommend that & a pint of your favorite pint! Service was friendly & prompt- not a long food wait either- worth a visit!

Service went above and beyond. Perfect escape in the heart of London. Food was quintessential British and it hit every note.

Remarkable, he scored and I literally walked around the corner and saw the long line to get into the pub first. I was seated immediately, however, and proceeded to enjoy a traditional Sunday Roast. Room was very pleasant (there are so many I got lost returning to my table from a bio brake. Roast was very good ( but no Lawry's) and the sides excellent. Could not decide if my favorite was the roast potatoes (crispy outside soft inside) or the glazed carrots. Yorkshire pudding was good but again, I am to used to the Lawry's and this is a different style. Peas were, well, peas, but very fresh. The sticky toffee cake was excellent and the Guinness fresh, creamy and a proper pour. Good thing because the selection of winners by the glass and half bottles of wine were both a little thin. Overall wine list was good but I was alone and not up for drinking a full bottle by myself. Overall, very enjoyable and to judge by the crowd and difficulty in getting a reservation, one of the more popular in town.

The history alone makes it worth visiting, and the location is perfect if you're exploring the area. It feels very classic London in the best way. We stopped in for a pint and honestly... the whole after-work beer culture over there is something I really need to bring back with me to the States. The beer was great, the atmosphere was lively without feeling overwhelming, and it just felt like one of those places where people naturally gather and stay awhile. Definitely worth stopping into if you're in the area.

Two story space - the ground floor feature the bar and handles walk in lunch; the upstairs is a dining room for those with reservations. Fun fact, as part of the history, the pub used to be the host of bare knuckle fights and had regulars like Charles Dickens. Wildfarmed sourdough - served with whipped salted butter and Guinness butter. Well toasted bread and the butters with salt were well made. Fuller's London Pride marinated steak and ale pie - served with seasonal veggies and red wine gravy, as well as either mash potatoes or triple cooked chips. If there is one dish London does really well, it's their pies. It was beautifully made and loaded with steak. The red wine gravy was decadent and added a perfect amount of moisture to the pie. Triple cooked chips were perfectly crispy but fluffy on the inside. Corn fed chicken breast - served with garlic and sage butter, mash potato, cavolo nero, and crispy onions. Only took a bite of this as it was my partner's dish but the bite of chicken I had was very juicy and well seasoned.
