I came here specifically for the pies and it didn't let me down! I first saw The Jack Horner featured on Top Chef London as one of the pubs the contestants visited on a pub crawl, sampling classic British pub food. When I did a bit of additional research I became starry-eyed over the pie menu. I'm a sucker for a savory pie. Lo and behold, not only do they have an extensive savory pie menu, but also a pie sharing board for 2, which features 3 mini pies and a small Cornish pasty, along with various sides and gravy. I fantasized about this pie sharing board for months leading up to my trip to London, and when it was placed on the table in front of me it was everything I hoped it would be. Everything was delicious, there was plenty of food for both of us, and I loved being able to try such a variety of foods at once. The others who joined us at dinner also loved their meals! Two of them got full-size (not mini) pies and another got the fish and chips and added on a side of curry sauce. High marks all around. I highly recommend The Jack Horner not only if you love pie, but generally if you are looking for a great pub to visit when in the area. Came here for a couple of pints and dinner since I was already wandering around the shops in the Tottenham Court Road area. Because I am an unoriginal American and was on vacation in the UK, I went with the fish and chips. As usual, the fish, batter, and fries were all just the right amount of crispy and tasty, and the peas were particularly interesting in that they had mint in them, which is something I'm not used to. Great, interesting flavor. Service was quick and friendly. Prices were, well, they were the sort of prices you'd get in a major retail area in London, but the low pound helped take the sting out of that. Great food, great drinks, great service. Standard pub fare in a spacious tavern. We came after visiting the British Museum and opted for the pie sampler which came with three different pies and a pastie along with chips, roasted veg and other sides. The pies were quite good as was the gravy. My friend and I had a couple pints of London Pride and the girls had some cider which they enjoyed. Service was okay and the prices were reasonable. read more

We came here after walking down from our hotel. We were immediately seated Now, I have to say as Americans we didn't understand a lot of the things on our menu but the waitress was really good and explained everything to us which was fabulous. She didn't make us feel stupid, she just gave us Simple explanations to translate from British English to American English. The food was amazing and the service was great. If we return to London, we will come here again... we returned the next day in the afternoon for the afternoon tea. You can't come to the UK and not do that. After wandering around and checking out many pubs, we finally found the one. Many of them were not serving food or wouldn't allow any kids. This is a beautiful pub with chandeliers everywhere. I tried a cask ale which was a little malty and dark; good cold weather beer. And of course we had the fish and chips which was amazing! The cod was very meaty and tender and went great with the tartar and curry sauce. They also give the mashed green peas which was whatever; I am not a fan. We ended the meal with a toffee and ice cream which was delicious. Perfect english meal for our London trip. read more

Just kind of average...was disappointed with the chicken ballotine. It tasted undercooked, and the sides that came with it were not very filling. Little Jack Horner sat in a corner, eating his Christmas pie... There was no way I could bypass this pub on our way to a marathon visit to The British Museum. This little nursery rhyme is a bit of a legend in our family, since I may or may not be related. Isn't that the fun of genealogy? Sadly, the place wasn't nearly as intriguing as the name. Solid pub! My wife and I were visiting from New York, and are admittedly not the curators of London cuisine, but we had some great food and a great time! The bartender was happy to explain a lot of the customs to us, as we were pretty ignorant, and the food and drink was just what we were looking for. Service was quick and friendly, the prices were definitely a bit steep compared to some of the other pubs we visited, but we felt the end justified the means. Notes for outsiders (like us!): There is traditionally no wait service at pubs in London (probably everywhere in the UK? I can only speak to London). You order and pay at the bar and the food is brought to your table. The ordering and paying also takes place at the same time. Additionally, tipping is a whole different ball game here. What most of the locals and others explained is that tip is not expected but is appreciated and you typically just round off your bill with the tip. For example, if you bill is 27.50 pounds, you can be nice and just give them 30 and call it even. Maybe we're wrong, but that's what everyone seemed to be doing. Now, a vast number of the pubs in London are "Fuller's" pubs. I never really understood this entirely, but it basically means that the menu and beers are extremely similar everywhere you go with slight deviations (a different pie here, a different beer there) but we were a little confused when so many of the pubs (despite having different names) were nigh carbon copies of each other as far as the menu went. We didn't complain, because it was all great and we were having great experiences, but that was definitely noteworthy. read more

Had to stop in a couple pubs while visiting London, and I'm really glad I stopped in here. Stumbled upon Jack Horner after visiting the British Museum and decided to pop in for a late lunch. The bartender I ordered from was very helpful and friendly (and cute). Service was great! For food and drinks I went with the vegetarian pie and a light beer, the perfect pairing. The veggie pie was flavorful and the perfect size. It came with fries (chips) and a fresh mixed greens salad. It also came with gravy, which I tentatively tasted, but I'm thinking it wasn't vegetarian. I didn't need the gravy though, so no worries. I didn't find the food/drinks too expensive, and the quality seemed pretty good overall. If I ever visit London again, I'd be happy to go to Jack Horner again to grab some food and a drink. read more

This is a large, corner pub, one of the Fuller's 'Ale & Pie House' chain. The location means that it is very popular, and we use it as a meeting point in this part of town - it's either this or the Rising Sun on the other side of the road. The inside is traditionally decorated - lowish ceilings, lots of wood, traditional furniture, subdued lighting. It also has a TV screen (and Sky Sports), although this is not always switched on (thank goodness). There's a disabled loo as well. Beyond that, there's not much to say about it, really: it's your average boozer, with a very mixed clientele, reasonable service, and reasonable real-ale. It can get very busy, especially after work, and you are advised to watch your possessions - this close to Oxford Street is prime pick-pocketing territory. I've not eaten here, but reports of the food are a bit mixed, so you might be best advised to visit one of the many restaurants in the are if you want to eat. read more

I visited here a few times on my visit to London. I have to say I really enjoyed this place. It is a Fuller's pub but I like their beer. My favorite cask ale I had there was the ESB. My favorite lager was their Frontier. They have a very good selection of cask ales and lagers. I also had a decent smoked porter from a can. I enjoyed their cask ales better than other pubs I visited. I love the atmosphere of the place. It just looks right. Nice and cozy. I love pubs that use a lot of wood. I did not try the food here but they have a good selection of meat pies which looked good. read more

Solid but unremarkable pub in Fitzrovia and within walking distance to the British Museum. There is outdoor seating as well as a generous bar. We had a couple of Lagers that were on tap. We didn't try any of the food or snacks but the service was fine and friendly. Superior location is a big plus. read more

Pretty solid pub. It's really convenient for me too because it's just a few blocks from my campus. My friends and I all ordered either fish n' chips or scampi n' chips, and they came out in a timely manner. We were all famished, and this was really delicious. We weren't in the mood for a pint, and they gave us give ole glasses of ice tap water, which was really great because I'm tired of paying for water! Although this is a chain pub and tied to a major brewery (in the case, Fullers) I am giving 4 stars based on consistently good service, quality beers and quick, tasty food. It is not a "real" pub per se. On the 3 occasions I visited here (in my defense, the pub was next door to my hotel) I had an English breakfast pie, a banger sandwich and a hamburger. All three were quite good, with highest marks going to the the breakfast pie. In this case, a pie shell is filled in a mixture of sausage, beans and mushrooms topped with a fried egg. It is served alongside an order of bacon, hash browns and grilled tomatoes. Although the Jack Horner serves predominately Fuller beers, you can get a small handful of other brands (Guinness, Peroni, Leffe.) The Fuller beers on cask are ESB, London Pride, Discovery, Chiswick and Front Row. They are all rather good, although be warned that these are served at cellar temperature and pulled via nitrogen. The result is a cool beer without much carbonation. The clear winner amongst the cask beers is the ESB, which is also the label that Fullers is most known for. There are also a number of beers in the bottle, with the Bengal Lancer IPA being the best I've had. read more

Well, I'm giving this pub four stars on the basis that I went in there on a Saturday night and got a seat, at a table, with my friends, and didn't have to queue at the bar. For some this may seem like a bad sign but for me, perfection! Add to that some relatively cheesy music (playing quietly in background) and you've got the ideal middle-aged persons pub. I'm currently some way off middle aged but apparently old before my time. The drinks were fine, service fine, decor fine (in a trad pub way). It's not cool or trendy and I wouldn't go there looking for a party, but it served me well after a lovely meal at Sagar, which is jut over the road. What more could a girl ask for, except maybe teletransportation home? read more

Very disappointing pub meal. Though the service started out on a good foot, our server confused 2 of our 4 entrees (serving a meat pie instead of a mushroom pie, a fish sandwich instead of a bacon sandwich). Even taking the mistakes into account, our meals took a long time to arrive (20+ minutes) and were underwhelming to say the least. The fish sandwich which was intentionally ordered was cold. Although the Fuller's beer was good, the rest of the meal was very poor. read more

The Jack Horner wouldn't be the first on my list of places to eat or drink. Being a Fuller's pub it's target audience seems to be older men and the half-soaked and i have to say i find their food menu a bit uninspiring, though I'm not much of a pie-man to be fair. This particular Fullers pub on Tottenham Court Road attracts a lot of passing trade and tourists alongside nearby workers. I was dragged in here once during a football match which was being screened and loathed every second. I do hate football though. So between the pie's and the great game this place really does nothing for me. One to avoid! read more

The staff was friendly enough and we were starving. My friend had the mushroom ravioli, which I didn't care for, but she really enjoyed. I had their salmon/haddock/cod pie with mash, and it was really tasty. I'm not crazy about the overly fishy taste of haddock, but I ordered it anyway so that was my own fault. I visited here on a chilled out Sunday with friends, who wanted something purely British and we had a lovely evening. Finding a table was stress free, it was clean and had a real cosy atmosphere. We ordered and were served our food within 20mins trying out the pie selection platter, (£16 and enough for 2 people) which I highly recommend as it gives you a fantastic range of their pies, but mini-sized along with a small amount of mash, peas and gravy. The only downfall I could find is the fact they don't do a sunday roast as I reckon it'd be a popular choice, but other than that I left feeling satisfied and completely content. read more

A group of colleagues and I ate here for lunch during a recent friday on our way to view the student work on exhibit at the AA around the corner. We arrived about 12:45 and ordered promptly Finding a menu was a bit of a hit and miss. I had to ask people at their table if I could use their menu. The menu is fair for lunch though like many London pub anymore you can't seem to order just a simple burger and chips. Amongst us we ordered fish and chips, chicken salad, mushroom and veggie pie. The chips were actually the brightest spot, as their were large wide chips cooked to perfection. The place started to get busy a little after 1pm and it must have been partly related to why a few of the orders at our table took quite a long time to arrive. Overall, the food was average, the ale was fine and the atmosphere was somewhat typical. Located in a convenient spot. read more

I'm not a fan of the traditional, old man type of pub and would always prefer something more modern or contempory. Saying that, this Fullers pub on one of the longest roads in London is a good safe place to go if you work in the area and maybe want to have a working lunch or post work drinks. The menu may be uninspiring but the range of pies on offer is quite good and you'll certainly find something to please everyone, though portions could be better and less bland overall. The bar can get very busy on match days so I, as a non-football fan, tend to avoid these though I'm sure the sporting amongst you may enjoy downing some of their own brand ales whilst shouting at a screen. Drinkswise there's a good selection of ales and beer and your usual spirits. An unexciting but safe bar for wweary shoppers of sports fans. read more

pricey for pub food but there are limited places open late on a Sunday night! I got the burger and it was really good. The portions were bigger than normal as well. Like some pubs, you have to know to order and pay at the bar otherwise you end up sitting there for a while until you figure it out. Our food came out quickly and I would go back again.
