Cod with beans and chorizo

Great food and service, and lots of happy people in the restaurant. We got the cod with beans and chorizo, the fish and chips, and beers and wine - all excellent, as was the service. The table next to us was raving over the chicken and ham hock pie. As we're only in London for a few days, then back to the States, we won't be able to return to this lovely pub until next year's visit. If we lived here I would go back for the cod and bean dish often, but since I can't, might the owner be willing to DM me here with the ingredients (don't need amounts) for the delicious beans/chorizo/sauce accompaniment? I would be eternally grateful.

I can't comment on the beer/drinks because I was there for lunch and can't mix drinking with productivity. It's one or the other and today I chose the former. But I can say that on Sundays they offer several classic roasts (beef, chicken, pork and veggie/nut something), plus a full menu of other stuff (burgers, fish & chips, etc). Loved my roast beef platter, which featured 3 giant slabs of meat, a nice gravy and a good-sized Yorkshire pudding. It also came with roasted potatoes, carrots, veg and greens... but these were pretty basic. It was the mains that did the trick. The place was humming for a Sunday lunch and the staff were nice and friendly, though could have been slightly more attentive throughout the meal (by the time I was asked for a refill, I was done eating). There didn't seem to be any TVs - everyone was engaged in conversation. I'm guessing it would be a nice pub at night, based on the vibe. I do know it's a nice place for lunch during the day. Is it the best place for Sunday Roast? Heck, I'm going to need a few hundred more Sundays in order to make that call.

Market Tavern is a fun place to go grab a drink. They have a good beer and cider selection and plenty more on the menu. In the evenings it's quite crowded, with people often sitting and standing outside. Upstairs, there's a wine bar/lounge called the Chesterfield Room, which I've only been in once for lunch. While the pub is, well, pretty traditionally dark and pub-like, the Chesterfield Room is decorated in red, orange and burgundy, with lots of velvet, wallpaper and chandeliers. The lunch I had there (same menu as the pub) was pretty standard--I got a hummus and grilled vegetable sandwich, though the waiter did bring me the wrong meal before swapping it out for what I'd ordered. The service is a bit spotty (I was also subjected to an excruciatingly long fight between two of the service staff), but it's generally a fun place to hang out -- more so in the evening, though. And with friends.

Very popular place in Shepherds Market, and totally with it. Get the nut roast here on Sundays, it is the best!

This is a really fun pub tucked away in a little winding street. I realize that in London pubs are a dime a dozen, but this one is worth a visit. The cider is good and the people are friendly. The food is also quite tasty for being pub fare. I'll definitely be back. On a side note there is also a Mexican/Polish restaurant next door that I would love to try out, the combo seems interesting. Possibly a pre visit before settling into Market Tavern

You won't find me peddling preppie talk with the Mayfair mafia all that much, but on this fair Wednesday evening I found myself attending a close friend's birthday bash and what a pleasant evening it was. Stencilling on the faux period wallpaper and fluffy seating replete with avant garde cushions, damn we could be in Shoreditch if the (non-existent bassline) was 'thumpier' and the riff raff at the next table were not rah-rah toffs! Not a bad shared edible platter, and a quaint area away from the tourist baggage mayhem of Piccadilly.

Remarkable, he scored and I literally walked around the corner and saw the long line to get into the pub first. I was seated immediately, however, and proceeded to enjoy a traditional Sunday Roast. Room was very pleasant (there are so many I got lost returning to my table from a bio brake. Roast was very good ( but no Lawry's) and the sides excellent. Could not decide if my favorite was the roast potatoes (crispy outside soft inside) or the glazed carrots. Yorkshire pudding was good but again, I am to used to the Lawry's and this is a different style. Peas were, well, peas, but very fresh. The sticky toffee cake was excellent and the Guinness fresh, creamy and a proper pour. Good thing because the selection of winners by the glass and half bottles of wine were both a little thin. Overall wine list was good but I was alone and not up for drinking a full bottle by myself. Overall, very enjoyable and to judge by the crowd and difficulty in getting a reservation, one of the more popular in town.

The history alone makes it worth visiting, and the location is perfect if you're exploring the area. It feels very classic London in the best way. We stopped in for a pint and honestly... the whole after-work beer culture over there is something I really need to bring back with me to the States. The beer was great, the atmosphere was lively without feeling overwhelming, and it just felt like one of those places where people naturally gather and stay awhile. Definitely worth stopping into if you're in the area.

Two story space - the ground floor feature the bar and handles walk in lunch; the upstairs is a dining room for those with reservations. Fun fact, as part of the history, the pub used to be the host of bare knuckle fights and had regulars like Charles Dickens. Wildfarmed sourdough - served with whipped salted butter and Guinness butter. Well toasted bread and the butters with salt were well made. Fuller's London Pride marinated steak and ale pie - served with seasonal veggies and red wine gravy, as well as either mash potatoes or triple cooked chips. If there is one dish London does really well, it's their pies. It was beautifully made and loaded with steak. The red wine gravy was decadent and added a perfect amount of moisture to the pie. Triple cooked chips were perfectly crispy but fluffy on the inside. Corn fed chicken breast - served with garlic and sage butter, mash potato, cavolo nero, and crispy onions. Only took a bite of this as it was my partner's dish but the bite of chicken I had was very juicy and well seasoned.
