After a long day of touring and shopping in London, it definitely was time for a drink and some food and stopping at this place was a great choice' High energy and a nice atmosphere, I definitely was excited to enjoy some happy hour time. The bartenders are quick and their service is friendly. The food was amazing' I ordered two platters, a starter filled with cheeses, olives and other goodies. The other was steak and chicken with veggies. Everything was delicious! If you're in the area and want some really good bar food, check out this little place and have some fun! Enjoy! :)

Down the street from the amazing Vintage Magazine Company (a must visit!) is The Crown, #10 on the Soho and Noho Dick Whittington ale trail of Nicholsons pubs. It's in a great location, just off of the main street from the West End, a little hidden so tourists won't run into it unless accidentally. The front entrance is wheelchair accessible, but only for the main bar area. The dark lighting and decor are more cosy than some of the other Nicholson pubs. If you tread further back you can gain some very comfortable seating and slight space for passionate making out (as one couple proceeded to do across from me). Same beer/food menu since it's a chain, you can try before you buy and the food is decent with some nice specials. The music is kept low, a favourite characteristic of mine, I can't stand shouting for a conversation. They boast that Mozart gave a recital at age 9 in 1765 at this location before it was a pub. It also used to be a popular haunt for American Airmen during the war. Gotta love the history. There's no outside seating, but it's great for groups and I felt relaxed, really wanting to linger as much as possible after my pint when I was there. The main floor and dining room appear to be pretty clean, but the same cannot go for the restrooms. Due to the age of building it can't be helped that the facilities are outdated and the hand dryer wasn't working either. Be warned that the stairway up to the bathrooms is extremely tight, narrow and narrow. However, after venturing up the stairs going single file the dining room appeared to be medium sized, very bright, and charming. I didn't grab a bite but it looked better than some of the others owned by the chain I have been in previously and I am tempted to test it out. If you're in the area I'd give The Crown a shot for sure.

Fish & Chips - not so great.

It's good, not great. The restaurant (located upstairs) was suggested as a last-minute dining spot. I had the Scottish Salmon to start and Fish & Chips as my main. The starter Scottish Salmon was fresh and an absolute delight - although a couple extra pieces of toast would've been nice (came with only two small half slices equating to one piece of toast). The presentation of the Fish & Chips was well-executed, however the taste was bland, and all the breading, one would hope the batter was well-seasoned. If considering this place to dine, I would recommend taking a pass and exploring elsewhere. However, if you're hungry and in need a table, this may be your spot. Best of luck!

We dined here without a reservation. The food menu is like bar food but it was well done. Fish and chips were cooked perfectly. The fish was crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The fries were crispy outside and melts in your mouth inside. Service was fantastic.

I'm giving this pub 4 stars for one reason and one reason only = they have a toilet that you can just walk in and use and nobody sees you - the door that takes you right to it so you don't have to do the walk of shame through the pub pretending you're looking for someone! Seriously where else is there to use a toilet near Brewer street if you're just shopping and not eating in a restaurant?! It's the perfect spot for all you ladies who need to go every 15 minutes. Be warned the place smells of fag ash from the smoking days and it's not exactly glamourous, but it's always clean and when a girl needs to go, a girl needs to go! Thank you The Crown for allowing me to use your toilet and not buy a drink!

My wife actually booked dinner reservations in advance for Ye Old Cheshire Cheese, it was one of a few we did that for rather than just popping in. For some of these, Cheshire included, it isn't a bad idea if you want a full meal to do so as it gives you a table in a dining area that is quieter than the More raucous areas of the pub and guarantees you plenty of elbow room to dine. Every pub has fish and chips, and we had our share of it during our 8+ day trek, but my wife swears by this place as having the absolute best. I'd likely agree with that--we both had the traditional fish, chips, peas platter and every bite was great. We had a few slices of sourdough to hold us over while waiting for those plates. My wife had a bit of wine, and I tried a lager, lower ABV ale, and a pour of scotch opting for their "house" scotch. The spirits/beer menu was the same I saw used at a couple of what I think must be "sister" pubs all using the same distilleries and brewers. We were too full to try dessert. Service was friendly. Not sure if it was the vintage of my scotch or her wine, but price-wise this was by far our priciest pub visit in the area and I can't quite point my fingers at why, but I don't regret our meal and time here. As for historic interest, you can find pictures and placards of many of the pubs famous patrons from history--Dickens, Mark Twain on visits to London, etc. A first edition of a Dickens' book adorned a post by our table.

Cool pub dating back to 1300s?…read more Fish and chips were great. Price was okay given its a popular and historic spot. Beer was excellent and prices reasonable Only complaint was the dining area was extremely quiet on a Friday afternoon. A little strange for a pub

The history alone makes it worth visiting, and the location is perfect if you're exploring the area. It feels very classic London in the best way. We stopped in for a pint and honestly... the whole after-work beer culture over there is something I really need to bring back with me to the States. The beer was great, the atmosphere was lively without feeling overwhelming, and it just felt like one of those places where people naturally gather and stay awhile. Definitely worth stopping into if you're in the area.

Two story space - the ground floor feature the bar and handles walk in lunch; the upstairs is a dining room for those with reservations. Fun fact, as part of the history, the pub used to be the host of bare knuckle fights and had regulars like Charles Dickens. Wildfarmed sourdough - served with whipped salted butter and Guinness butter. Well toasted bread and the butters with salt were well made. Fuller's London Pride marinated steak and ale pie - served with seasonal veggies and red wine gravy, as well as either mash potatoes or triple cooked chips. If there is one dish London does really well, it's their pies. It was beautifully made and loaded with steak. The red wine gravy was decadent and added a perfect amount of moisture to the pie. Triple cooked chips were perfectly crispy but fluffy on the inside. Corn fed chicken breast - served with garlic and sage butter, mash potato, cavolo nero, and crispy onions. Only took a bite of this as it was my partner's dish but the bite of chicken I had was very juicy and well seasoned.
