Atop the rice sits slices of salmon that melt in your mouth very quickly awash boisterous waves of umami. I've visited this place a total of three times so far. And of the three visits, they were all equal in being thoroughly enjoyable. The first time I showed up, I was blown away with how delicious the food was, but I chalked it up to being especially hungry that day. The second time I came with a friend, we discussed our favorite types of sushi. We had placed our orders (I had gotten the Sushi Combo B) and continued conversing. She had stated that she does not like the tamago nigiri, counter to my voicing a love of it. Once the food arrived, I was blown away yet again by just how perfect the sushi tasted. At this point I was convinced that I wasn't just especially hungry again. The third time I came, a few weeks later, I ordered the Sushi Combo B yet again, which is chef's choice. What do I find at the far end of my platter? A piece of tamago nigiri. Mind you, this was a few weeks later. I'm convinced that the waitress heard our conversation during the last visit, as this piece was the eleventh piece to what is normally a total of 10 pieces you receive as part of the Sushi Combo B. To no surprise, the Sushi Combo B was rocking the usual "kanpeki" (perfect) score it's deserved so far. The waitress is always very attentive and greets every interaction with a smile. We were sold after reading Celeste's Ratatouille review on here (lol), and I'm so glad we came! Everything we had was delicious, including the miso soup which was the best miso soup any of us had ever had! We also got potstickers to start which were really delicate and tasty. For my entree, I had the udon which was amazing. The broth was tasty and the noodles were the perfect texture. My mom got the tonkatsu which was the best any of us had ever had. The breading on the pork was perfect and so tasty. My dad and partner both got the beef teriyaki which was also delicious. Our server was very sweet and attentive. I drink a lot of water so she had to come back a few times but she was very patient and kind. They describe the teriyaki as sautéed in teriyaki sauce. That's strange. Anyways, I wanted to get this seafood noodle soup. I pointed at the picture in the menu and my waitress thought I wanted a spicy cod soup which is a totally different thing in their menu. So I passed. I then pointed at something that resembles a bi bim bob. I asked if that's what it was and she said it's not. I asked if Korean style ramen meant cheesy ramen, she said it didn't. It was just a ramen. Ok. Then I thought maybe I'd just have the porridge. She had that look in her eye like "please don't get that, that's disgusting." I asked if it was good and she was not giving any signs of it being good. Then she proceeds to point me towards this sashimi rice dish, saying that "they're famous for this." Famous? Who's even heard of this place. But I take her word for it and agree to give it a try. Best decision ever! Legend... Wait for it, ary! I always get the bento box, good food and a good deal. We've been carrying out lately and it's just as good.

This Korean-owned quaint restaurant located in the corner of a strip mall has consistently good food. The "ma-noo-ben (MA-ki, NOO-dles, BEN-to)" special is the best deal. You get a bento box with your choice of steak, chicken, or salmon teriyaki, along with a spicy tuna roll and some side dishes included in the bento box. The steak can be chewy and tough at times, but the chicken and salmon are consistently good. Then, they give you a small portion of udon noodles, thus called the "ma-noo-ben" special. It's very filling. My favorite is a "Dae-gu-tang" which is a spicy fish stew. It's got chunks of white fish (bone-in) and is filled with vegetables. What I like about this place are the little "extras" they give you. They give each table a complimentary appetizer called "Pah-jun" which is a Korean green scallion pancake. Then, at the end of your meal, you can request "Nu-dun-gee," which is basically cooked rice boiled in water. A bowl of this, served with a raw squid and radish side dish makes for a soothing ending to a good meal. IN SUMMARY: Go for the bento boxes and dae-gu-tang. Make sure you request "Nu-dun-gee" at the end of your meal. Just note that they are closed on Sundays. read more

Ma Noo Ben offers a variety of dishes ranging from typical Japanese maki rolls to Korean fish stew (dae gu maewon tang). You can also enjoy bento boxes filled with assorted goodies: tempura, California rolls, potato salad, sweet fried tofu and generous portions of beef, salmon or chicken teriyaki. My personal favorite on the menu is Hwe Dup Bop, Korean style sashimi over rice with cold vegetables. The fish is fresh and the vegetables are crisp and cold, and when you mix it with the vinegar red pepper sauce, it is a delicious blend of flavor. The ambiance is cozy, if not a little campy, with living room-esque furnishings. Its a small dining room, but with larger family-style tables, can be a great place for small groups. Some reviewers have also mentioned the overt presence of religious symbols in the decor and on the paperwares being a distraction, but I found it rather harmless and part of the overall appeal of the place: they care about what they do and do it pretty well. I see a lot of positive review but unfortunately I had a different experience. Went here during lunch with a couple coworkers. I've been to a ton of Japanese restaurants before and this one wasn't up to par for me. The look of the inside was nice. Good place to maybe take a date. I didn't get the framed drawings from little kids. There were also religious signs and symbols around the restaurant. The two servers we had were friendly but both of them didn't know how to speak English very well. I think one of them was in training. I ordered the lunch chicken teriyaki don. The woman server said they were out of the chicken teriyaki don. I didn't understand how they could be out since my coworker ordered the chicken teriyaki bento combination??? I tried questioning her but she didn't understand me so I just ordered the same bento combination as my coworker. The chix teriyaki don was served over a bowl of rice. Maybe they were out of rice or only had enough rice for sushi??? I don't know and she obviously didn't know either. So the food arrived before we even got water, napkins and especially silverware/chopsticks. We didn't really want to eat with our hands... My bento combo was tasty but I didn't care for the side of potato salad. Why don't they serve this with rice? We also ordered a few maki rolls which were good but I definitely had better in other sushi restaurants. I like how it looks inside. I feel like I'm in Korea. Just the decor and such. Also, I love that they have John 3:16 written on their chopstick covers~! The food here is ok, nothing special, but it's comforting for some reason. Everyone that works at ma noo ben is really nice, and the food is served with plenty of LOVE! (it is "japanese" food, but mostly bentos, rolls, and noodles, many more koreanized than not) The last time I went to ma noo ben, my friends and I stayed and chatted for almost 3 hours! The staff didn't make us leave or make us feel like we overstayed our welcome. Instead they gave us a few complimentary foods and made us feel welcomed and happy :) Yay for the hospitality, but based on food, this place is average. This Korean owned Japanese restaurant is tucked away and hidden behind some other stores in the plaza, so it is a bit hard to find at first. This place is so small, but has so much character. At first Glance, it does not look like a Japanese restaurant, but a small pancake house. The place has a Country style décor which made the place very cozy; not to mention very clean, and the staff here is always very nice and attentive. My co-worker and I always have a good time when we come to this place. The price is pretty reasonable, and there is always a good array of Japanese and some Korean style food. Their Bento Combinations are always good and priced under $10. You get your choice of Teriyaki Steak, Salmon, Chicken, Tempura, and Sashimi ($11.95) and comes with a roll of maki sushi (6 pieces), deep fried tofu, and potato salad. If you order the Manoo Ben Bento Comination for $1.00 more, you can get all these food plus a small bowl of Udon Soup. I always get this when I come here for lunch. So here is the jist on this place..... Pros: The place is very clean and cozy, very friendly staff. The entrees are reasonably prized, especially their Lunch Bento Lunch specials and the portions are just right. Cons: some of their wait staff had a problem communicating in English because when we would ask a question about the menu, they would looked confused. Also, their lunch times can get a bit busy and it is a bit hard to tag down your waitress. Their Bento Combination does not come with rice. You have to order the rice separately. I thing their entrée should automatically come with rice considering this is an Asian Restaurant. You can also tell the owners are Christian, because there is a cross or two, and a few quotes and phrases from the bible hanging on the walls. This was my second time here and both times I really enjoyed my meal. The younger gentleman that took our order was very patient with our questions about the entrees. The owner is very sweet. She came by and checked on us a few times to make sure we were doing good. The first time I was here I got the sashimi rice and it was excellent. Hidden in the back of the plaza, I would have never found this place on my own so thank you Yelp! Very cute and homey feel inside with soft pillows on chairs. We got gyoza to start with and it was boiled and gently fried. My boyfriend loved it. I am more used to fried gyoza so this was a little different from what I'm used to. I got the Nabeyaki Udon in a hot bowl and my boyfriend got the teriyaki beef bento box. His meal was huge and everything was very tasty, especially the miso soup and teriyaki beef itself. Neither one of us was a fan of the potato salad unfortunately. I am deducting a star because of some inconsistencies with my Udon. It was supposed to have mushrooms but the dish that I got had no mushrooms and had shrimp. I am okay with shrimp just not what I expected and I wish they told me about the substitution and that they don't use mushrooms on it as described in the menu. Nevertheless my soup was very tasty! It seemed like a family business, I love finding these little gems. This place is hidden in a corner and I went in I thought it was going to be run down but it was actually a decent place.
