Came here on a Thursday evening and was pleasantly surprised. I got the sashimi rice. The bowl was HUGE, presentation was pretty and taste was amazing. Three others at the table got bento boxes and loved their food as well. Price was very reasonable. I saw other reviews about the Christian decorations. I noticed it as well, but was not bothered. Who cares??? They don't preach to you. The decorations was quaint and festive for the holiday. It is obviously a family owned restaurant, so don't expect a glam place. I personally like the personal touches. I'll definitely be back! read more

As soon as you walk in, this restaurant is so warm and welcoming. The decor is cute and homey. The service and food matches the decor as it is clear the food is made with such love. All the portions are big and most dishes come with a variety of side dishes. The service is very friendly and side dishes are refilled if you ask. I would definitely recommend the manooben bento. It comes with a lot of different foods and it is super filling. It is a great deal for the price, especially during lunch. I also really like the sushi rolls here because the fish is fresh and the rolls have good fish-to-rice ratio. read more

Delicious food and very inexpensive. A hidden gem to keep all to yourself. Nice atmosphere to eat for lunch.

Simple and authentic flavors with a great atmosphere and great service. They have great oshinko (pickled daikon, not on the menu), and I have not had a bad dish yet. read more

My family and I frequently eat dinner here, usually on Friday nights when we are wanting a family friendly, comfortable environment. The food is great, especially the Hwe dup bap. Nice family owned restaurant and the owner is very sweet, especially to our little ones. Great food, great service, nice owners. read more

Manooben is a little restaurant perfect for a quiet little meal. I had the ramen and it was really salty, even after requesting to not add any salt. I came with my family and when we went in, we were the only guests and the waitress was really friendly. She was very kind and served us quickly. We then received free Korean pancakes and oh my goodness they are delicious!!!!! Come here if you are salt immune and looking for some quick eats! read more

Based on the first review, we decided to check this out. It being almost exactly between our two places of employment was a big plus. This was very good, we had happy mouths while eating. I had chicken teriyaki bento, he had the salmon. The price was very reasonable for the nice variety. I liked it so much, I'm going again in a couple of days with people from work. read more

I went there on a Saturday night with my family to celebrate a birthday. It was pretty small in there, but I would call it cozy. This was my first time, though my other family members have been here before. The Bento Box was highly recommended, because it came with salad, udon soup and the choice of meat. The choices were Salmon, Steak and Chicken. I picked the Salmon, which was the popular choice among all of us. Everything came out at a descent time, and we didn't have to wait for any of the food. I also ordered 2 maki rolls, because I wanted to check out how the Japanese food tasted. So, I ordered my 2 usual which is the Dragon and Spider roll. I feel that these 2 are basic rolls, and if the restaurant can't make these 2 well then it probably wouldn't be a place I'd return to in the future. They were both pretty good, and we enjoyed them. By the time the Bento boxes came out, most of us were pretty full though I wanted to try the Salmon. It was good, and so were the side dishes in the box. It had one of my favorite korean side dish, which is the potato salad. I liked the potato salad, though not a huge fan of the pan fried tofu. I know tofu is very common in the Korean dishes, but it didn't look too appealing. It looked rather greasy, so I decided to pass on that. When we thought the meal was over, the owner brought out 3 large dishes of Bing Soo (korean ice cream dish). I don't really eat this, because it never looked appealing enough for me to try, however the ones she brought out looked amazing. I really wanted to try it, and I loved it. I would totally go back there just for that ice cream. I was really impressed by how good it was. It was also really nice of the owner to bring that out at as birthday dessert for the b-day celebration. That was very thoughtful of her, which shows that they care about their customers and want to provide the best customer service. I do live in the city, but make it out to the burbs at times and this is place that had good food and great customer service. I think those are 2 important things that would make me want to return. Sometimes, you get 1 if you're lucky but this place provided both. It was located in a small strip mall, at the end but those things don't matter if the restaurant is good. If I'm in the area and looking for a place to eat, I would go there again. My first time there turned out to be a very good experience. I would recommend this restaurant, and hope that everyone has a good experience there like I had. read more

Quiet ambiance. Super friendly staffs. Yummy fresh food. Manuben Bento for 16.99. That includes appetizer, green tea, assorted tempura, potato salad, bowl of Udon, seaweed salad, teriyaki salmon, 1 roll spicy tuna, kimchee, and dessert. Enough for me and my daughter. read more

The sushi bento box is amazingly delicious. As a matter of fact, I haven't had a bento box from here that wasn't great. The service can be a little slow but it's totally fitting for this place. If you have a little time give it a go, you won't be disappointed. read more

Love this place and the people who run it. I always feel at home here and their sesame infused sushi rice is some of the best i tasted. They also carry a range of Korean dishes. read more

Not my favorite. I tried a Bento Box thinking I'd like something. I was wrong at best the tempura was average. That's the best thing I was served. The "appetizer" tasted like burnt grease. The California roll was bland and the beef teriyaki was tough and a bit off. The worst was the noodle bowl. The predominant flavor was chilli powder. I don't recommend. read more

Very nice food and great to see the "show" from the various cooks preparing food right in front of you.

This place has a great atmosphere and food.I would recommend this place to anyone who likes Japanese cuisine. read more

Manooben - Japanese Near Me - Glenview, Illinois

Really tasty and Japanese. I love the sushi. California maki is the best I have ever had. I do recommend.

Great "mom and pop" restaurant! The portion sizes are good, and most entrees come with a vegetable fried "pancake" that is delicious. I have had two different noodle dishes here and I really love the vegetables and spices. The service is quick and the people are friendly as well. read more

We came there in a rush on a Monday at 530, with plans at 6. We were the only customers there. The inside has a distinct and nice oriental attire, in an otherwise average strip mall. We ordered three sushi plates. The futo (4pc, may have spelled wrong) were delicious, the veggie rolls were very bland. Meals came with free tea, salad, and some type of potato-like appetizer (delicious). Overall great value for sushi, and the waitress was very accommodating given our rush. read more

Amazing sashimi bibimbop rice platter. Comes with a side of soup. I have to mention, there was a dead fly in my salad...but nonetheless the food was great. read more

This little storefront is hidden away in Glenview behind some better-known places. People take the time to seek it out because the food is good and the service and atmosphere are calm and polite. While the sushi is excellent, the bento boxes are what most non-Asians come for. You know you are in a place with comfort food when the wait staff brings light, delicious scallion pancakes shortly after taking your order. The lovely savory does not appear on your bill. Green tea is also brought and refilled thoughtfully. Usually the small dining room is full of Asian diners, and they are eating the more home-style Japanese and Korean dishes on the menu. Taking a cue from them I've tried the sashimi rice salad. It is served with a spicy red sauce on the side. The variety of chopped raw fish was fresh, and balanced nicely with the warm rice and the crunch of fresh lettuce. It was a large bowl, but was so good I ate it all. There are a great variety of bento box choices. Each of the five or six items in the box comes perfectly cooked, and there are always surprises. Most recently, the box contained a generous dab of the creamiest potato salad we've ever eaten. Unexpected. The bento boxes, and most entrees, come with miso soup and a tossed salad (ginger miso dressing) included. My favorite dessert here is sweet red beans on shaved ice. We order one bowl for the table and it shares well among four. Sweet, cold, and unusual. We usually come for dinner, but we've heard the lunch specials are good too. The restaurant, whose name is derived from "Maki, Noodles, and Bento" is located near The Grove national historic landmark, which is part of the Glenview Park District. read more

I ordered Ramen, and when I got home I realized that it is instant ramen. If I wanted instant, I would have made it at home. It was 11 buck for instant ramen. I will not be going back. read more

Amaaaaaazing!!! Love their donkatsu and their sashimi rice bowls! It's a nice, small, and cozy place.

Ma noo ben is a hidden gem in an unfortunate location. Great food for the price and the staff is wonderful. I go out of my way to eat here. Japanese food prepared by Koreans? They haven't steered me wrong before. Also, for those who know their Korean food... I've heard this place has the best bat bing su. I really want to try it but haven't yet. I've had it at bakersville and liquid fusion (both within 5 miles of ma noo ben) but neither of them really compared to some that I've had in S. Korea. I'll resolve to try it next time I'm at Ma noo ben. read more

A change from the ordinary, Ma Noo Ben is a cozy, homeyrestaurant located in Glenview. Due to its location in the highly Korean populated town, Korean dishes are spread throughout this Japanese restaurant's menu. An acronym for Maki Noodle Bento, this small restaurant contains 10 tables that quickly fill as people flock to enjoy Japanese cuisine during their lunch hours. Specializing in udon, sushi, and other Japanese hot noodle soups, many locals dine here to eat in an atmosphere similar to their home. After ordering, the waitress comes to your table bringing traditional Korean pancakes, knownas bindaetteok. Nothing beats free appetizers! For the more Japanese cuisine purist, maki is another recommended appetizer at Ma Noo Ben.It comes fresh, served with spicy wasabi and pickled ginger. Each order comes in 6 pieces, the cost varying from $4 to $12. Bento boxes, udon soups, and sushi are just a few of the choices that make up the lunch menu. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento and was impressed with what it had to offer. The American equivalent to the sack lunch, bento boxes are boxed meals arranged in takeout style. The bento consisted of chicken teriyaki, a California sushi roll, and potato and tofu salad. It had just enough variation to allow to sampling of different dishes without losing the meal's consistency. Hot rice soup is then served after the meal. The soup serves as a warm follow-up to a full course meal and a primer for dessert. If you still have room, make sure to try their Pahtbingsoo. Although I have personally been able to only visit once, I have heard numerous praises about their pahtbingsoo. Pahtbingsoo is a Korean dessert consisting of shaved ice topped with fruit, red beans, bean powder, and vanilla ice cream. This dessert is a definite change from the ordinary. Ma Noo Ben is a great restaurant with friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere. Planning to go again soon with other friends,I encourage you to visit Ma Noo Ben. This place is definitely worth a try. read more
