I really liked Manny's! On occasion I want a hamburger and Steve and I just happened to be in the Proctor Neighborhood where Manny's is and this hankering arose. We ducked in here and were very impressed with their menu! I got their Frisco Burger and Steve got the Manny's Burger. The burgers are great! We also got a side of french fries which were very enjoyable as well! The size of the burgers and the fries are generous and don't take it a surprise that you may need to take some of your meal home with you. They have some craft beer on tap... Manny's beer for sure which I thought was cool (but I don't think the same owners have this restaurant and the brewery). The staff were friendly and enjoyable to deal with! If you're within a reasonable driving distance of the Proctor district of Tacoma, you've GOT to try this place! (We drove about 25 minutes to get there, and I'd drive farther for how pleased we were with our experience.) They serve breakfast all day; Saturdays and Sundays until they close at 2. Smallish place and there were several parties outside waiting to be seated, but we only waited about 15 minutes. Lunch and dinner items sounded and looked great, but I was so happy with what we ordered, I don't know that I could pass up having it again!! SO GOOD!!! Service was amazing -- we were checked on by our waitress the PERFECT amount of times, and she refilled the creamer dish without being asked. She was personable and very accommodating, sending us home with a sampling of their special syrup so my mom could try it, when I asked if I could have a smidge to-go. Our eggs came fried instead of scrambled, as we'd ordered, but she more than made up for it on our bill and quickly replaced the incorrect item on our plates. The owner or manager checked on us, as well, but never was there the feeling of being rushed or them being overbearing nor of us feeling neglected. My husband and I shared an order of chicken fried steak with chorizo gravy (to die for!!!) and also an order of French toast with a really unique and lovely syrup made in the style of a caramel sauce, or so our waitress said when I asked about it, though it wasn't overly sweet. Supposedly the French toast had "granola" on it, but it definitely wasn't the kind of granola I was expecting. It was more like a fine-grain coconut, without really tasting like coconut. Whatever it was, in combination with the not-too-sweet-but-super-interesting syrup (different than the maple syrup that I think comes with the pancakes), it was delicious enough I wanted to mop up every bite of my thick-cut French toast bread slices in it, but I resisted! Our scrambled eggs were perfectly prepared -- light and fluffy and JUST the right doneness. Their pepper bacon was great and perfectly cooked. Hash browns were nice and crispy and had a rich flavor from "the brown," so I was a little sad I had to split them with my hubby! They serve Valhalla coffee in nice big mugs, not some yucky industrial restaurant service mug made of super-thick indestructible ceramic, though I was kind of surprised they didn't serve a fancier raw sugar or something other than the regular white sugar in a shaker that was partially clumped, but no biggie. I just think it's fun to plop a rock of raw sugar from a serving tray into my coffee, though maybe with Covid that's a thing of the past anyway.... ‍ Both my husband and I had their bloody Mary made with Tito's vodka. Super delicious, especially when I asked for it with a bit of an added Tabasco kick and an extra wedge of lime (small though the lime wedges were). The rim was salted with what tasted to me like a celery salt but was done with bigger crystals than what you'd buy in the spice aisle. I don't know if it's a specialty product or if they make their own or if I was just imagining the flavor, but it didn't look like anything out of the ordinary, and yet I thought it had a different taste than just straight salt. Someone on Yelp raved about the salted rim, so I don't think it's just me.... ‍ We didn't see it in person, but I saw someone post on Yelp a picture of the sign for their single-occupancy, all-inclusive restroom. I'm totally down with supporting businesses that support others!! ‍ We stayed well past closing, as we were doing research on buying a new vacuum, and yet we were never made to feel like we needed to get up and go, even when we suggested we might be in their way for them to clean our table and be able to leave sooner than later. There were other patrons still eating, so I know we weren't specifically holding them up, but we still had water glasses and such our waitress hadn't pulled yet, which could have helped them be that much closer to wrapping up if we hadn't been there. That she assured us we were in no way IN their way reemphasized their dedication to customer service. Several Yelp reviewers had commented on a "Cathy" ("Kathy"?) who had been their server and who had done a phenomenal job, so at the end of our meal, I asked if our waitress's name happened to be Cathy/Kathy. I was surprised when she laughed and said her name was April. I guess the restaurant employs more than one really great employee. April was fabulous and for sure one of the best servers we've had in a long time! I typically leave a gratuity of 20% or so at most sit-down restaurants, but we left something closer to 28% for what we thought was a great experience. Had to handle business in Tacoma today and came to yelp to find a breakfast restaurant. We randomly chose this one and definitely were pleased with our decision. The server worked the entire restaurant and didn't miss an order. It was quiet and they played old school R&B. Music makes the atmosphere for me. I'm going to venture back down for lunch soon. In the future I think it would be fun to have them available for people who want to eat alone yet have a "being there" I've seen this is done at some cafés in Korea. Proctor was in need of a good casual diner place, and Manny's Place fits that niche. I was here on a Thursday about 11:30 and it was pretty slow, so our service was fast. It is seat yourself which would be a hassle on busier weekend times- as a warning. I had the surfer scramble with fruit and toast. Boyfriend had the chicken fried steak. We also had coffee. The coffee here isn't anything out of the ordinary diner fare. Boyfriend really enjoyed the CFS, he said it was possibly his top favorite he's had in the area. My scramble was also good. The veggies were well cooked, nothing fancy. The salsa was actually much better than I assumed it would be and seemed fresh rather than store bought. Manny's Place is a great find. Manny's Place is the perfect low-key-yet-hip spot for an excellent meal with wonderful service on a Saturday night. We arrived at M's Place and were greeted right away. Most tables were occupied and the bar had some smiley-patrons enjoying their libations. The place was very clean and the decor is cool. Both of our pretty servers were very nice, accommodating, attentive and friendly. The chef offered suggestion too when asked. Our food; hot; plenty and very very good. I've eaten here a few times now and have ordered a different breakfast each time. Every breakfast so far has been great however, today's breakfast was incredible! I ordered the Manny's Omelet which has lots of grilled steak, swiss cheese, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and a mild salsa sauce. One of the most flavorful omelets I've ever had! Highly recommend! It came with real crispy hashbrowns and your choice of toast. I chose sourdough. Also, the toast is not that skinny Wonderbread kind of toast but a thick "texas toast" kinda toast. So good! Its not a big place so there might be a wait but it's definitely worth the wait. So far I've only had to wait once and it was for around 15 minutes. After a couple of false starts going to places that didn't meet our vision for a nice breakfast (one in a Harley Davidson store and a coffee counter in an office building) we drove to Manny's outside of old Tacoma. I am so glad we did! The breakfast was delicious and service was friendly. I got the California scramble with the crispiest hash browns and the best whole wheat toast I've ever had! I was a member of the clean plate club on this day which is highly unusual for me. My husband got the blueberry pancakes with eggs and bacon, perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. I had the fajita omelette, which was super flavorful. A definite order again. If you like Tex-Mex breakfast, it's a must-order. I heard the chorizo scramble being recommended as well. I have been super eager to try Manny's Place, so it is unfortunate that I have to give it such a negative review. Upon arriving, we were quickly greeted. Our server was friendly. The restaurant is small and basic, which is fine, but more of a cafe than a restaurant. The reason why I was so excited to pop in here is because they have the incredible vegan burger. I have had it once before, and it is delicious! I kept it pretty basic with the incredible burger, swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, and onion. I also did specifically ask for no mayo and no butter on my bun. I was bummed it came with a choice of fries, chips, or fruit. None of which sounded particularly appealing. I opted for fries so that my partner could have two servings. I would have been super happy to have a salad option. It is a $1.50 extra to sub the Incredible Burger, but I figured that was a small price to pay. The burgers are $12, so $13.50, which I find reasonable, but that is assuming it's a pretty good burger and that I get my choice of side. My partner ordered a standard cheeseburger with fries. Upon arrival, my burger had cheddar cheese on it, rather than the swiss, so I hesitantly sent it back to have my cheese swapped. I just hate doing this, but I really didn't want cheddar and this was a pretty straightforward order. Unfortunately, when it was returned, the new bun had butter on it. One mistake I can overlook, but two...not so much. I did not send it back a second time because I was really hungry and just wanted to eat. There were just too many mistakes and the only thing good about it was the burger itself, which comes pre-made. My partner said his "meat" burger tasted like it had come from Costco and was microwaved, so that was a let-down, also. The fries, although there were a lot, were very underwhelming.
