I came here for brunch with a friend a few months ago, and it was such a lovely experience (totally forgot to write a review until now though lol). I HAD to order the French onion soup (practically a mandatory order for me whenever I see it on a menu). Le Sel Bistro definitely met my expectations because it was rich and flavorful with plenty of cheesy, savory goodness. Mmmm! Definitely had me satisfied along with my entrée. I ordered the Pork Belly Benedict, and it was absolutely delicious. I love me a good pork belly and this was a unique twist on the classic Eggs Benedict that I had to try, adding a savory flavor that complemented the dish perfectly. Everything was cooked well and beautifully presented. My friend ordered the (classic? Daily special?) French toast and completely demolished his plate before I had even finished mine! It looked incredible, and by how quickly it disappeared, we agreed it tasted pretty good (I had a small bite). The ambience and décor are exquisite, creating a cozy yet elegant atmosphere that's perfect for a leisurely brunch. We dined indoors, enjoyed a great conversation over our meal, and never felt rushed. The customer service was friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. While the prices are a bit high if you're comparing it to a typical breakfast spot, they're exactly what I'd expect from a bistro. I'd recommend budgeting at least $25+ per person if you're ordering a meal. Between the quality of the food, the inviting atmosphere, and the excellent service, I felt it was well worth the price. Such a disappointment. We first came here about 8 years ago, moved to Cali and now we're back for another visit. Last Friday about 11:30. Ordered the traditional bfast, Cuiche and 4 cup coffee. Everything was overcooked. Eggs ordered were over medium but the yoke was hard, cuiiche was thin and dry and also over cooked. Bacon was so dry when I broke a piece of it broke into smaller pieces. $78 later. A coffee shop for half the cost would have been a better choice read more

Super impressed with the Le Sel Bistro. The decor is elegant and welcoming. The service was incredibly friendly and attentive. And the crab benedict was magic. Not too salty and I always appreciate perfectly poached eggs and hollandaise with just the right consistency and flavor. The micro greens were a lovely touch. Such a cute little place, if you weren't looking for it, you'd probably miss it. I wish there was parking reserved for the restaurant (although with all the businesses and apartments on the road I'm sure that's difficult) the food was fine, i didn't think it was anything crazy delicious like I was hoping because the of reviews. But my taste probably isn't elevated enough because I only ordered the original breakfast. Our waiter was great. Wasn't very welcomed there. It felt like by the host. Of course I did not have a reservation, which I did not see that you needed to have one online. Host ended up quoting me 45 minutes for a table of two and then the person who was supposed to have lunch with brought their spouse, which made it three and then the person who was the host unfortunately said they did not have any more times for us. While i was waiting for 25 minutes until the other half my party showed up, I did notice there was quite a few tables open in the back with no one sitting there, which makes me believe that that they did have room. I'm giving two stars to the whole fact that's not what you say but how you say it to customers. read more

A few friends and I had dinner at Le Sel Bistro on a quiet Friday evening. We had a reservation and were seated on the beautiful patio with views of the water. The cozy touches--blankets and outdoor heaters--made it a lovely spot even as the evening cooled. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout the night. We started with the warm brie, which was delicious and perfect for sharing amongst 3 people. My friends enjoyed the seasonal fish, and we all liked the spring risotto. Unfortunately, my main dish, the filet mignon, was a letdown. Though the asparagus was perfectly cooked and flavorful, the steak was significantly overcooked (closer to well done rather than the medium rare I requested), was tough and dry, and lacked seasoning. The fingerling potatoes were okay, but needed extra condiments (I requested aioli and ketchup) to be enjoyable. Despite the disappointing entrée, the overall experience was pleasant. Staff was friendly, food was decent, and if you're lucky you might have a slight view of the water. Parking was okay. All street parking and we had to park a few blocks away. The place is very small and crammed, along with small tables. Our party of 4 struggled to fit all of our plates & cups on the table comfortably. They do have an outdoor patio for a little extra space but it looked like the tables were pretty small outside too. It was fine for a one time visit, but I don't have any plans to return. read more

What a fun little impulse buy for me! I was walking down the street when I noticed La Sel. I really love trying new places so I scoped out their menu and opted to go. This is a super, super small place and reservations are definitely a good idea. We'd arrived shortly after opening and were able to get a table inside, though I was told that their patio is heated. The apple cider mimosa I got was really good! My parental unit saw that they had hot buttered rum and decided to go with that - it looked really good and he'd definitely have another one. The mushroom omelet I got was great! Just a mushroom omelet, nothing crazy, but it was done really well. The potatoes I received were on the cold side (sad panda!), but overall tasted good. It's a little on the pricey end, but it was a great brunch and I definitely see myself coming back! read more

In essence, everything went well--the food, drinks, and the restaurant's overall charm were spot on. Parking, however, was impossible. What marred our dining experience was the server who delivered our food. Her first irksome move was an unnecessary joke--she made a tasteless comment of "I think you've had enough" after serving our order, then continued speaking out loud, saying, "well, that didn't come out well" in a rude manner. Secondly, as we were finishing our meals and conversation, the same server approached loudly, suggesting that we needed to leave because other reservations were waiting. There is a proper way to ask patrons to leave without causing embarrassment, and it's never a good idea to make tasteless jokes. read more

I went to brunch at Le Sel Bistro with a friend of mine and it was quite the pleasant experience. To start, the atmosphere was fantastic. The interior is beautifully decorated and as we were lead outside I saw a large open bar/seating area that looked fantastic. Once we got outside to the balcony, I was again impressed with the view, seating setup, and ambiance. Also the entire place was very clean. No trash or food stains anywhere. The service was great. Our server was very kind and easy to talk to. He was quick with his service and gave my friend and I plenty of time to talk uninterrupted. On top of that he let us know about specials right from the jump which was helpful. Overall I had a pleasant experience. Lastly the food. I got the traditional breakfast and a beer which is always my go to when having a brunch at a place I've never been before. I can say that the food was delicious and very well laid out. I think there could have been some more spices (including salt) added to the potatoes, but aside from that I loved the toast, eggs, and ham. Also the beer was fresh and cold. Even though it was cold and we were in the outdoor seating, the area was covered and we were provided blankets at the table. I got the egg Benedict which was made perfectly, my friend got french toast, and my husband ordered the Le Sel burger which they both said they enjoyed. The service left much to be desired, partially due to seemingly flighty waitress and most certainly being under staffed. It wasn't until the third or fourth visit and our asking that waitress finally revealed soup and dish of the day. All but one table was occupied which obviously stressed the kitchen. Our main dishes arrived table an hour and a half after being seated. The French Onion soup was served warm and the balance of our meals (Ratatouille, Duck L'Orange and Chicken Picatta) were nothing to write home about. Le Sel is my favorite Tacoma brunch spot. I love this place - the ambiance, the view, the food, and the service are always top-notch. I've never sat inside, but I'd love to spend a visit writing over a steady stream of drinks in the lovely tiny bar area. Instead, we always sit on the balcony overlooking the port of Tacoma with space heaters and a variety of plants adorning the space. It feels nicely secluded no matter how many people are on the balcony with you. It feels like visiting a friend's home. I deliberate over the menu, but I always end up getting the a la banane French toast. It's incredible. Their omelettes, pastries, and coffees are all excellent as well. Aside from the occasional chill outside, I have no complaints. Le Sel is a Best-Of-Tacoma spot, and you owe it to yourself to enjoy their hospitality. read more

Wow! It's almost been eight years since we were last at Sel?? Well, I guess time flies. It has been on Steve's and my mind to go back for a while now but we just had to commit ourselves to making a reservation which seem to be mandatory to go to this wonderful French restaurant in Tacoma now. It isn't hard to make one it's just a simple thing to apply yourself in making one. Well, the food is as good as I remember it. We started off with warm brie cheese with pear slices and bread. That was a great appetizer and had great portions to make it shareable. It was very fresh and the brie was in peak form. I then got a slice of Quiche which I haven't had in ages so that was really an amazing return to make. This was perfect in the savory department and the crust was wonderful! I got a small cup along with my meal of French Onion Soup... one of the best I've had in a very, very long time. I got a Bloody Mary in which there are several different ones to pick from off of the menu. I got the Maria which is had Tequila in it which was great! Absolutely no complaints with our return visit to Sel. The food is as good as ever... maybe even better than from our first visit. read more

It was chilly day so we decided to sit inside. We ordered and got a large French press. Food takes a while, but it is absolutely worth the wait. I had the bacon and cheese sandwich. It was a flavorful delight. The cheese blend was smooth and savory. I want to thank the team for making sure everyone in our group had something perfect to eat! Quaint little cafe overlooking the Port of Tacoma, great vibes and has outdoor seating on a covered patio with portable heaters. Parking along the side of the road (angled) or a free small parking lot (walking distance) only a few minutes away. Service was just okay. We had reserved for an outside table but were seated inside by the indoor fireplace. After informing our waitress of being misplaced, she was gracious to let us wait a few minutes in order to snag a table outside by the view. We waited an hour for our food to come out (we went at 1:30pm) from the moment we sat down at our initial table, including transferring to our outside table. My only recommendation is that the waitress should have turned our cups right side up and poured us water; we did it ourselves, but I felt like it would've been courteous to do that as a server. Food was yummy. We went for brunch, and I ordered the Pork Belly Benedict. My only concern with my poached eggs is that it was little overdone. I wanted the "yolk porn" (oozing yolk) but got a medium boiled poached egg. Other than that, I devoured my plate! Would come back here for another brunch though! read more

I was at Le Sel Bistro for a brunch experience, and it was amazing! My friends and I had a reservation here for seating in their garden area. The "garden" is more of an outdoor covered patio, but it was so cozy. Peek-a-boo views of the water, heaters, and even blankets provided on every chair in case you got cold - the ultimate setup! I tried the Honey Latte, which was delicious and served with a crystallized honey stick to stir into your latte. Our table also shared bites of the French Onion soup, which was absolutely delicious. I definitely could've had a bowl of my own. For my main, I got the Eggs Benny which was cooked to perfection! I wasn't a huge fan of the potatoes, I feel like they could've been a little softer, but at that point I guess I'm getting a little nitpicky. :) All in all, a delicious experience with a cozy vibe. The food was steaming hot when served, which is something most restaurants dont do any more. It was a breath of fresh air to have an actual hot meal served! Additionally, my meal tasted better than what I could have cooked at home, making it even more enjoyable. The only downside to the food, was how long it took to get to the table. The restaurant was fairly packed so I am assuming that was the only reason. I really liked the fact there was loose leaf tea offered. I wish my black tea was stronger, but that's just basic preferences. The wait staff were friendly, courteous, and sat me down right away. This place definitely gives off green flags and positive vibes for a date. I would highly suggest visiting this place. There isn't any dedicated parking, but there's plenty of street parking available within a block radius. Definitely make a reservation to secure your spot, otherwise you just might end up without a spot. It's a fairly busy location and rightly deserved. The food will make you want to come back for more. The last time I dined here my eggs Benedict was ok, nothing to write home about. I had came a previous time and my poached egg was overcooked 3 times in a row which was a huge bummer since that's my favorite part, but this time it was perfect. This was an all or nothing kind of experience. Been dying to go back everything I see on IG looks so great. Love they take reservations. Really appreciated we got to running late from a service and they not only moved our reservations back but were super kind about it. Staff was so welcoming kind friendly. Took our order cheerfully for coffee and tea and an appetizer. Then literally an hour went by before anyone came by at all. All other tables started to get their food. Nothing My fault I should have said something but I didn't. Finally at an hour past when we were seated our entree came out. No appetizer. Basically super disappointing. It's what we came for. I would never have chosen my entree if I was going with that alone When. Commented never got the appetizer (trust me it's their baked Brie it's amazing ) the wish person said oh that's on me. No real apology at all. I get it they are busy I'm just still disappointed. But on the plus hubs for the quiche and grits and it was fantastic like amazing. I also love the breakfast potatoes are just that well cooked well seasoned no peppers. Everything came out hot Sadly I got the BLT Benedict and the bacon at least 3 pieces were raw. Again should have sent it back but I didn't say anything. Never got a refill on ice tea until leaving. We did get checked on and all I could say was meh it's ok and zero follow up. Infact I'm pretty sure she then was snarky. The real reason we were late is my dad passed away Friday and we were somewhere when everyone had heard and wanted to share love.
