Good dude. Helped me when I was in a pinch trying to take off the pedals on my kid's Strider so he could learn to balance first. Most bike shops in the area still sell kids bikes with training wheels, which research shows is not the best way for kids to learn to ride. Manny understood this right away. I went to another highly reviewed shop by the beach and while he did help with lowering the handlebar, he said the pedals would be removed easily and didn't assist with the pedals. Manny took us in without hesitation and already knew they'd be on tight, too tight for the avg person to loosen with homeowner tools. Dropped off my '01 GT iDrive 3.0 for a LONG overdue tuneup. Got both tubes changed, tire liners (didn't even have to ask Manny cos he took initiative), and rim tape, too. Also, my gear shifters were malfunctioning. Manny said he'd open them up and hopefully the springs just need cleaning and not replacement. Just cleaning - whew! He also changed out cables. When we walked in, he said he was pretty stacked up, but could get to my bike first thing in the AMs (we left the bike) and will have it done that day. He kept his promise. Bike looks and feels 20 years younger! As always, I have a price in my mind and he came in under! He knows his stuff and he knows about the industry. We chatted about GT, the company, for a bit. Was able to get the perfect cruiser and the man who helped (Manny I assume?) was very knowledgeable and proactive. He aired up tires to make sure my test drives were the best possible experience, taught me how to use my new lock, and gave tutorials on several things on the bike (like how to remove and put on the front wheel correctly). I've never met any bike mechanic/owner who is as honest as Manny. He was recommended by a friend when I had issues with my left crank arm and front derailluer. Cherry on top, I forgot to mention to him the loose headset when I left my bike, Manny took the initiative to fix upon my return to pick up! I took my s works Roubaix road bike for a repair. I prematurely shifted my gears too quickly, which caused my bike chain to come off and cut off the derailleur, and also bent the rear wheel. He did an excellent job straightening and rebalancing the wheel and replacing the broken derailleur with a new one. Manny is an awesome dude! He is a very knowledgeable and experienced bike expert. Back in 2013 I started commuting 3.5 miles to work in San Gabriel on a mountain bike that I scored on Craigslist. Uphill in the morning and downhill in the evening. I got a nice workout before work and a breezy cruise on my way home. We moved to the South Bay after I changed jobs and again I started riding the same bike. I kept it outside and it withstood the elements for the 5 years that I had it. It is 2018 and six months ago when I noticed that I couldn't shift gears. My shifter cable was shredded... literally... like a really dry croissant, or baklava, the insulation was just flaking off so there was no tension on the cable at all. Did I give up on my daily exercise? Of course not! I grabbed my wife's mountain bike and started using that. This past Saturday, I brought my bike to Manny's in bad shape. After five years of minimal maintenance done at home and six months of sitting in the back "yard" of our apartment, it had gathered a lot of dust, rust and cobwebs and weather worn tears on the seat (which I'm sure my appetite for good Del Combo Burrito didn't help). Manny told me that I would need a new seat, cables, and a good tune up, and potentially a new shifter since the clear plastic screen on mine had shattered like Amy Adams' hopes of winning an Oscar. Don't listen to a word I say Amy, I believe in you. You can do it! I asked for an estimate and he replied, "It will cost you less than a new bike," as he started writing and punching buttons on his calculator. [FADE TO FLASHBACK with subtitle "San Gabriel, 2013"] I walked into her garage where she showed me the $500+ mountain bike advertised on Craigslist for $50. I grew up in Los Angeles through the 90's so I just assume every bike is stolen ESPECIALLY $500 bikes in excellent condition going for $50. So I asked, "Why are you getting rid of such a great bike?" She said, "My husband and I are getting divorced so I'm selling all his crap." Me: "How much do you want for the Bimmer?" [FLASHBACK to present with subtitle "Manny's Cylclery, 2018"] "It'll be about $182.50 for parts and labor if I don't have to change the shifter." I hear Manny's voice say, as I shook myself awake from my daydream. My first reaction was, "That's more than $50!" but I bit my tongue and said nothing because it is still less than $500, plus I still had some leftover DJ money from a gig I had the previous month. Let's see what this guy can do, I thought to myself as I walked out the door. I am as tight with my wallet as a camel's butt in a sandstorm so to make myself feel better, I called my environmentalist granola buddy who has been resurrecting bikes to save them from landfills. He told me what would probably go into fixing my bike and he said that the cost was VERY reasonable. --- Three Days Later --- I went back to Manny's after work on Tuesday (the day he said he'd be done) and I literally walked past my own bike as I made my way to the counter where Manny was. "I'm here for the red Giant bike," I said. He pointed behind me, "I finished it earlier, but forgot to call you." Seriously! I. Did. Not. Recognize. My. Bike. The bike I had been riding as a daily commuter for years! The rust was gone! I could have sworn the chain was made of rust when I dropped it off, and now it glittered like new. The frame looked red and silver again! The chrome was shining and the new seat was a sleek jet black throne untainted by sun, rain, sweat and frijole fumes. I rode it to work early this morning and it felt like a new bike. I can access all the gears and it feels like it takes less effort to pedal. I initially thought that the tires were flat, but after inspection I noticed that Manny got the rust off the dampers and greased my shock absorbers. Another thing I noticed was that the seat was at the perfect height for me. Manny is the man! Now I need to save up some more cash so I can get the wife's bike tuned up. I brought my 30 year old Mountain bike in for a tune up. I'm trying to get back in riding with some friends. One of my shifters was not working right. Manny said he will try and fix, but might require replacement. He was able to fix at minimal cost. That tells me he is honest and knows what he is doing.
